The castle city of Cornelia... Ever since the war, the castle city of Cornelia has become the largest city in the universe. There were six mini cities within the large castle city, each surrounded by walls and a gate. Very much like the majority of castle cities, in the north most section was the castle and the wall that surrounded it. Next to it were the different sections for the rich and upper class. Those who considered themselves elite lived nearest the castle, and held no fear of crime. But there were only two of those sections. The remaining three were where the most of the immigrants and poor had settled. And there the crime flourished like no other.
It almost made Amber wish she was back in Elfhiem. Then again that was only an almost. There was one other large kingdom. It was home to Amber. Unlike Cornelia, it was a much different place. It was much more spaced out, and made of several smaller villages in the large forest that covered the north of the area. Personally Amber had never been to the center village where the Elder of the Elves lived. He worked hand in hand with the King of Cornelia when it came to peace. However humans were not allowed inside of the Northern Forest. Only elves... or like Amber, half elves.
However, that was a totally different life. Here Amber was someone else. People knew her as Lara. Her hazel eyes and slightly tan skin made her look more like a foreigner then the white colored locals of Cornelia. Her amber colored hair was held back by a hair tie in a single pony tail. Currently she was wearing her summoned white plated armor that was edged in gold lining. An armored skirt that covered just below the pant line to just above the knees, swayed as she sprinted. Her upper torso plate armor covered her bust, shoulders, and neck, but left her neckline exposed. Two plates of arm guards on each arm just above the wrists made it easy to block any enemy’s attack. Finally two lower leg guards extend from her ankles to just below the knee.
The armor was something that was special to her, but the pin she wore on her left shoulder was recognized by everyone in the city. The flying hawk was the crest of the King of Cornelia, however hers was black and outlined in red. This indicated her level of Division Commander.
Behind her six other knights, in gray plated armor more full but not much more heavier, followed her running pace. As she ran through the market streets in the middle class district, she enjoyed the mix smells of the area, along with the busy noise.
"I will bring this to the king... If what you told me is true... I fear for the universe Lara! Be ready for a summons." First Commander Kaylee was a good friend of Lara's. She was the one who had seen the potential in Lara and promoted her to Division Commander. She had wanted Lara to stay in the castle, but after everything that she had experienced at 'that place' she needed time to clear her head.
When one of the Captains told her he had a lead on one of the known thieves in the area, Lara jumped on the chance. Nothing cleared her head better then a chase and delivering justice. As they made there way through the market district, they came into the older architecture area. This area was known for hosing different gangs, murders, and thieves, but the house they were looking for was an abandoned warehouse.
"Right this way Sir!" Captain Justin was a short man, but a tough one. His men respected him, and they all respected Lara.
"Not like back in Elfhiem... If Alvi could see me now!"[/i] Alvi was her rival back in Elfhiem. He was also the strongest warrior in their village. Only Amber was close in his level of skill.
They passed quite a few shady people, but as soon as they saw the insignias they vanished pretty quickly. Captain Justin led them down a couple of several streets until he came to a stop in front of an old abandoned warehouse. They arrived!

Times were rough everywhere. The only ones lucky enough to avoid such hard times were the wealthy and even they had their moments. Rekka just focused on trying to get by while leading a semi-normal life. It wasn't easy though considering her situation. It wasn't every day someone got to see someone who wore an eye patch. Rekka always wore one because she had to hide the insidious wound where her eye used to be. Since the eye patch wasn't black, it wasn't often noticeable at first. When people did take notice was when things got awkward.
Rekka was never like this most of her life though. Once upon a time, before then, Rekka had two eyes and life hadn't been as harsh as it was now for her and her mother. Her mother was her only surviving parent and she was very sick. It was Rekka who took it upon herself to tend to her mother's needs. It was quite a burden though for someone her age. On top of it all, she struggled to try and maintain a normal life. With the loss of her eye though it wasn't possible to live as normally as she would have liked and with her mother sick, it was even harder.
Radiant Garden was their home. It was there that Rekka had spent most of her days getting what she could to keep them going. It was getting more difficult for her to find time to hang with friends though being so fixated on taking care of her mother. Her mother was her only family member left in the worlds. Rekka feared the though of ever losing her like she had her father. Even now, Rekka wondered where his murder had gone. One day, she hoped to avenge her father's death and the loss of her eye. Until then, she had to bring her mother back up to par but her attempts weren't working any. It troubled her because she knew that she was just prolonging the inevitable but wasn't ready to let go.
Considering her mother's illness, Rekka had heard rumor of a world called Cornelia. Or was it really called Cornelia? Either way, she knew something on that world was called Cornelia. It was said there that she could probably find some healer or something. However, Rekka hadn't much and wasn't sure how much a healer would cost. Still, she had to find out. Things were getting desperate on Rekka's end.
As she stepped through the portal she had created using the portal bean, Rekka looked upon the castle city for the first time in her life. It was pretty staggering to see just how large the place was. She had never seen such a place so large. It wasn't anything like Radiant Garden's castles, that was for sure. As she looked around, Rekka realized she must've stumbled upon an area that wasn't so welcoming. She could tell by the way the area looked. It seemed practically run down. No doubt, she was in the parts where the unfortunates lived.
Immediately, Rekka's guard went up. She wasn't a professional with her father's sword but she was decent enough to defend herself with it if she had to. Hopefully, she wouldn't need to. Rekka never liked the idea of killing someone. Ever since that incident where she had lost her father and her eye, Rekka had become accustomed to carrying the sword around for protection. It kept most would be attackers away. Even now, as she passed an unfriendly looking group by, they didn't give her so much as a passing glance after spotting the sword she had.
Nerves on end, Rekka didn't think asking them for help would be a wise choice. So, she chose to wander further into the city. In the distance, she could see some sort of structure rising up ahead of her. It looked like something akin to a warehouse or something around those lines. Not that she had anything to do with a warehouse. Still, she had to pass it in order to get closer to the city. As for being let in, well she wasn't sure if she would be allowed in the more pristine parts of the city. She hoped to find a healer somewhere though.

"Alright Captain, what's the plan?" Lara asked the Captain. He seemed slightly taken aback from her question, almost as if he expected her to have the plan.
He blinked trying to explain himself, "Sorry sir, I thought since you were coming with us..."
Not needed for him to continue, Lara spoke up. "Captain these are your men. This is your mission. I am but another soldier to help you with today's mission." Lara could have easily come up with a plan for infiltrating the warehouse. She had been in the Captain's shoes for almost a year before she was risen to Division Commander. Just looking at the warehouse she had a couple of ideas. But this was not her party. She was not the captain, and these men were not directly under her order. They were Captain Justin's.
Picking himself up a bit, Captain Justin nodded firmly. "Alright everyone this is the plan. From the blue print there are two entrances. The front entrance where we expect to find an office like set up, and the side door where the truck unloaded. The target goes by the name Gestas. This is the sketch we have of him." Captain Justin passed around a piece of paper that showed a man with long black locks, pointed ears, a sharp pointed jaw, and brown colored in eyes. "He's an elf that sources say is about six feet, approximately a hundred and forty pounds. He's quick and at all scenes of crime, he has left the same magical residue."
"The source who pointed us here said that he was inhabiting a room above the storage area. There are six of us and we expect the front entrance to be booby trapped. But some of us are going to go through the front anyway. The rest will follow me through the side door. I'm betting he's set up some kind of wards that will tell him people are going through the front door. It should keep him from looking at us coming form behind."
While the Captain informed them of the details, Amber was suddenly worried about running into another elf. What if the elf recognized her? Lara looked different then Amber, shorter hair, more muscles, even talked different, but her slightly tan skin was not something one easily forgot. In addition to thinking about this she picked up the nervous tapping of one of the knights who was also listening in.
Glancing at the knight, Lara picked up the nerves of a noob automatically. He was a young man, probably in his late teens, with a black flattop, light green eyes, and a pretty face. "I'll take the front. He can come with me." Lara indicated nodding to the young man. His eyes widened in surprise and he looked as if a blow from Lara's lips could send him toppling over.
Captain Justin turned to the young man then back to Lara. He cleared his throat, and tried to speak quietly. "Sir, Billys new. I don't want him too..."
Lara shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Do you not trust me anymore Justin?" Justin was one of those who was in her very first company when she was a Captain. He had been with her thick and thin. He knew more then all the knights here her commanding style.
"I don't see why you don't just become a teacher. You're always busy telling people what to do." Alvi's words repeated her head. Lara tried to shake them out. Alvi was Amber's friend. She was Lara now. Division Commander Lara.
"Alright. Billy you follow Commander Lara's lead. Do exactly as she says." Captain Justin informed his newest recruit,
Billy did a stiff salute to his Captain. "Y-yes sir!"
"You be careful too, sir. The other captains would kill me if they heard I let the best commander get killed." Captain Justin said, and Lara just shook her head. "Alright everyone follow me!" Captain led the other two knights as he ran along the alley on the side of the warehouse.
Lara turned to Billy. "Follow my orders exactly Billy. Don't worry I won't let you die on my watch!" Division Commander Lara extended her hand and summoned her battle axe. It felt good to be wield the weapon again. She jogged up to the front door, paused for a moment to nod at Billy, then opened it. Unsurprisingly it was unlocked. Many knights often thought they had to kick the door open. Why bother with that if the door was unlocked? But then again most of the soldier knights were more brawn then brains.

Rekka continued her solitary walk up the street. As time passed, the warehouse gradually grew closer. Not able to see what was happening due to things still being in the way of her view from the warehouse and where she was, Rekka didn't know of the squad of knights that were heading into the building itself. If she knew, she might've tried to go around the warehouse to avoid any possible problems. Not that she was trying to avoid the knights, it's just she wouldn't want to get caught up in the situation.
Since she hadn't seen and couldn't see the knights, Rekka kept heading in the direction toward the warehouse. She had no intentions of entering it, of course but she had to pass by it. Rekka didn't know if that would be a good idea or a bad idea just yet as she continued to walk down the path leading towards it. As she went, she glanced around the area, constantly checking her blind side where her missing eye couldn't allow her to see.
So far, no one was giving Rekka any problems. That was good. Rekka didn't like conflicts if she could help it. She was just here in search for a healer and that was all. She didn't need any trouble and she didn't want any. It would sort of suck to lose her only eye in another incident or worse. 'Don't think like that, Rekka! If you do, you'll give yourself a self fulfilling prophecy and then you'll really be in for trouble,' she thought to herself.
Rekka would be just reaching the old warehouse as the knights had gone inside. Walking along the path, she wasn't aware of the things taking place inside unless something dramatic took place to alert her to the warehouse. Nervously, in case something unfriendly was hiding in the warehouse, Rekka glanced at it. No one seemed to be hiding inside or peering out at her so she walked on the path to try and pass it. Considering the size of the building, it was going to take her a few minutes to pass the length of it to continue on toward the city.

Captain Justin had been pretty accurate in his description of the room they entered. It was a medium sized room, approximately twenty by twenty. Dust hung to the floor and lights hung from poles on the sealing. The only light came from the open doorway where Lara could see dust floating in the air like mist. She noticed two doors next to an old wooden desk, where at one point a receptionist probably stood. Lara guess that the doors probably led right into the warehouse.
"Stay close Billy. Be ready to follow my movements, I might not have time to tell you to move if this place really is booby trapped." She said, but did not turn to face Billy.
"Will do sir." Billy whispered, almost as if his voice might make the trap go off. If the thief really was an elf, then this place really could be booby trapped. Elfs were excellent magic users. It was what made them so dangerous. Amber was only a half elf, and thus only could use magic by wielding some sort of weapon or while wearing her armor. It was one of the things that Amber had been made fun of for back in the village. But Lara... Well Lara didn't have to worry about that. Lara had no use for magic, she was just a regular human.
The first step was the dangerous in Lara's opinion. When walking into a trap, one never knew where the trigger might be. Lara just hoped it wasn't the threshold. She prepared herself for anything, her axe firmly in her left hand. Stepping forward, she stepped into the lighted area. Her eyes never stopped moving across the room, and her muscles flexed as she waited to see if a trap came. Thankfully none did!
Taking another step forward, Lara was met with the same results. "Things seem ok. Follow me Billy." Lara kept her senses open as she continued into the room. She was not ready to let her guard down yet. That would be stupid, and was a rookie mistake. She moved with careful movements, taking her time.
Billy on the other hand was beginning to relax. "Maybe Captain got the trap thing wrong?" He asked her as he stepped forward so that he was by her side. Not noticing just yet, Lara went to respond when Billy took a step in front of her coming up to the desk.
She heard the hum a moment before it came. Lara didn't waste time swearing or anything else. Instead she leaped, crashed into Billy, and knocked him on his arse. A large fireball raced right past them and out the doorway, just missing there head by a foot. Lara didn't stop moving though as it passed. She rolled over Billy, grabbed him by his arms, and pulled him back. Once again they barely just dodged a falling lamp. However it wasn't a lamp when it crashed into the floor, it was a spike.
"Damn it Billy get up!" Lara shouted, continuing to pull Billy as more of the overhead lights fell, becoming spikes on there way down. Billy finally got to his feet as they managed to make it to the wall. There was some eight five foot spikes stabbed into the ground.
"Sorry Commander! I thought...." Billy began to apologize. What cut him off though was the fact that the wall behind them began to move forward towards its counterpart. The elf really had done a number on this room, transformations, a fireball, and now a moving wall trap!

Rekka allowed her mind to wander back to the days when she didn't have to worry about things. Times weren't easy even then but nowhere near as tough as this. She needed a break from all the curve balls she got in life. Her most major struggle was being able to see with one eye and overcome her insecurity of it. People tended to stare where she came from or give her pity. Rekka hated the attention and wished she could hide it better but it wasn't possible. She could cover it with strands of hair or something but even that didn't help much.
As she walked, oblivious to the traps and whatever chaos ensuing in the building, Rekka gave slight pause to glance over at the old warehouse. It was run down and looked like it was never occupied anymore. Still, she didn't dare go anywhere closer to it than she had to. There was no telling if she'd find herself being wrong.
Quietly, she continued her passage past the building. As she did so, a sudden sound of commotion coming from within gave her pause. Looking over at it again uncertainly, Rekka gave the building a wide berth as if she feared someone or something was going to come exploding out of the building's interior. Her single eye looked at it warily as she tried to continue walking. Something was going on inside and she really hoped that she wasn't about to find out.

There were really only two options. They either retreated out of there, or tried to make it to the door. The wall was moving pretty quickly and there wasn't much time to think. If the door going into the warehouse was protected or locked then they might not have time to make it outside. "Damn it! I hate elves!"
Lara said aloud. Well she hated elvan magic more then actual elves. "Follow close!" She told Billy as she ran towards the door out. Lara should have known there would be more traps on the way. As she ran a straight line towards the door she was forced to stop as tiles five feet around the door gave away. They seemed to fall into an endless pit!
"Were gonna have to jump it!" Lara shouted backing up towards the desk. Pumping her arms and legs as hard as she could she waited until the last possible moment before leaping. She just made it, having to grab onto the outside of the door to stop her from falling back. Turning around she realized that Billy was stunned, just looking at her.
"Sir..." He began.
There wasn't much time! The wall was five feet away from the entrance to the door. "You can do this! Hurry!"
Lara watched the knight back up and then pump his legs as hard as he could. His armor was heavier though then hers. But he did have more muscle then she did. Lara backed up a bit, praying that he made it. He would have fallen if Lara hadn't stepped forward and held out her hand. He hung from it over the edge as Lara did her best to just pull him up. Meanwhile the wall was already at the door frame.
"Gonna loose an arm over a human! Just shows you're more human then you are elf!" Alvi's voice swore in her head.
Amber would have had more problem with that then Lara. But Amber was gone. She was Lara now. She pulled with all her might, pulling the kid up and letting out a loud harah that probably could be heard down the street!
The wall passed by them and the kid fell on top of her. She had done it! She saved him! "I'm not the same person anymore Alvi. You're taunts can't get to me."[/i] She thought. Pushing him off her she continued to breath heavily.
"Sir... I don't know what I would have done without you... You saved my life!" The kid was on his knees and leaning over her. Looking up she did think that he was kind of cute. But it was against protocol to have relations with anyone in the military.
Chuckling she added, "Let's just hope that your Captain got that thief!" Her wind returning, she sat up herself. It was at about that time that the sound of breaking glass could be heard as an elf rolled out of a window and picked himself up off the ground unharmed.
Lara just looked at him stunned. He was dressed in tight tan colored clothes, pants, a shirt, and the bottom half of his face was covered with a bandana. But the rest of his looks and features fit the description that Justin had described. He looked at them for a moment before running down the street, in the same direction as Renka.

Rekka eyed the building carefully as more commotion within stirred. Whatever was going on, she hoped no one would consider her as a witness to it and try to dispose of her. All she was trying to do was go about her business by passing the building. She had nothing to do with what was happening within. As she warily continued on her way, occasionally glancing over at the warehouse to make sure no one was outside causing trouble, she wondered what could be happening within. Hopefully, nothing as gruesome as her imagination.
'Please stay inside the warehouse!' she thought nervously, ready to bolt at a moment's notice. Her nerves were just like that time when she had lost her eye and her father. Hopefully, nothing bad like that was about to happen. Trying hard to not appear uneasy or vulnerable, Rekka focused on taking one step at a time. As soon as she focused on that, it was easier for her to forget the building to the best of her abilities. So long as she acted stupid, not seemingly hearing anything, she was safe. It's when people went snooping around was when people got in danger.
Unfortunately, fate wasn't so kind to Rekka. As she tried to carry on with her own business, there came the sound of fleeting footfalls. They were gradually growing louder which only meant the owner was getting closer. Heart pounding, Rekka became alarmed and alert. Her first reaction was to bolt. Coincidentally, her running too might make it seem to others as if she were an accomplice when she wasn't. Whoever was behind her, Rekka hadn't stopped to look. Instead, she focused on what was ahead of her and ran as fast as her legs could carry her. She didn't care who or what was behind her. So long as she kept running, she hoped to eventually lose them. If she was lucky, they would only pass her and not give chase.
'Don't look back! Don't look back! Don't look back!' she thought, running for it as fast as she could. The owner to the sound of feet behind her sounded faster though. Hopefully, they'd only just run past her. If not, well, Rekka hoped that she could somehow outrun them. Maybe something lucky would happen but considering her streak of luck, that was debatable.

The sudden shock of the thief bursting out of the window only lasted for a moment. "On your feet kid!" There wasn't time for her to wait for Billy to get to his feet. Lara was already on her two feet and running right after the man. "Were running after him!" She screamed at the top of her lungs as she ran. The point was to inform Captain Justin that they were chasing after him.
Billy didn't take to long to start running. The elf was fast! As fast as Lara was. The thing about being a half elf is that you didn't have the immortality of an elf. Human blood seemed to prevent the stopping of growth that most elves experienced around thirty. Lara had no way of knowing how old this elf was. The magic it took to do some of those traps... it was complex magic. No novice or young elf could do such a thing.
Lara had allowed her axe to vanish because it allowed her to run quicker. But she was aware that the elf behind them knew that he was being followed. Watching him increase his pace, Lara pumped her knees harder. She could tell she was beginning to out pace Billy, but she didn't have time to wait for the kid now. She was not going to let the elf get away!
With her eyes fixed on the elf, Lara did not see the girl that was also running away from them until the elf passed her just barley. Lara on the other hand was directly behind the girl! There was no way she could stop in time before she ran into the girl. Lara readied herself for a collision.

Rekka believed she was about to be under attack or being chased for something that she wasn't responsible for. After hearing the initial runner behind her, she heard a few more join the chase. 'Oh no! More are after me!' she thought worriedly. Unfortunately, Rekka couldn't go any faster than she already was. On top of it, the first runner had sounded much closer now. Before she knew it, something appeared in front of her. The first runner had passed her by!
Confused, Rekka looked at the figure's fleeting back. 'So they weren't after me?' she thought, feeling a surge of relief. Well, for the most part. That didn't mean those behind her weren't intending to capture her. Rekka couldn't keep going for much longer like this though. Already, she could feel the strain on her legs. They felt like they were burning and she was getting fatigued. If this kept up for much longer, she would topple over from exhaustion.
Rekka didn't have to wait for long to end up toppling over. However, it wasn't in a fashion that she believed she was going to topple over in. Without warning, the others behind her had caught up and one of them had run right into her! Letting out a startled yelp, Rekka went tumbling to the ground. She hadn't seen who had crashed into her and knew not of it being intentional or not. All she knew was a brief moment of pain before finally coming to a stop on the ground where she had rolled.
As she recovered, Rekka didn't yet take notice of the fact that the fall had removed her eyepatch. She had an eye that was missing from its socket but that wasn't the worst part of it. Her scar running along that area was hideous. At the moment, from another's viewpoint, they would not see the now naked, old injury. Her hair strands were just barely resting upon it, keeping it out of immediate detection. Once she moved though, it would be easily noticed. "D-Don't hurt me!" Rekka pleaded. Her hand was resting at where the sword was sheathed in case she had to pull it out to defend herself with it. From what she could see, it looked like she had crashed into another girl. An armored male was headed their way as well. Both, now that she took notice, had been in armor.

Even though Lara crashed into the ground, rolling into a somersault and ending up on her back. Forcing herself up, she didn't look at Renka just yet. Her eyes were on the elf as he rounded a corner and out of her vision of sight. "Damn it!" Swearing at her rotten luck, she still looked at the way the elf had run.
"You could never catch an elf! Were better, faster, smarter. Your just a half blood." Alvi mocked Amber in her mind. No! She wasn't Amber anymore.
Hearing the running steps behind her, Lara turned around and noticed the kid finally catching up. He stopped by her, leaning on his knees and breathing hard. She couldn't blame Billy for not being able to run fast enough. He was a newbie, it was expected. Finally Lara turned to the person she ran into. Glancing at the girl, she was surprised to see the gaping eye socket and wound. Just what could have caused such a vicious wound?!
Lara figured the woman couldn't be much older then her. "She ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time."[/i] Lara thought of the girl running into her. From her clothing, Lara figured she must have been a foreigner. Probably one of the many who now lived in the Castle Town.
Seeing her grab the hilt of her weapon though, and shout Lara held up her hands. "Woh! Were not going to hurt you! We were after that elf that ran past you. He's wanted for some serious crimes."
Getting to her feet, Lara noticed that the kid was staring at the wound in the girls eye. Lara slapped the back of his helmet. It hurt her hand, but it got his eyes off the woman. In a hushed tone she told Billy, "Stop staring!" Walking over to the woman, Lara held out her hand to help her up. "Sorry, I didn't really mean to run into you. Honest!"

Rekka, considering she had seen the fleeting figure run before her earlier, wondered why two armored figures would be chasing him. No doubt, he had done something wrong for these people to chase him. After all, weren't these the legal authorities or was she wrong about that? Never the less she had her hand uncertainly on the hilt of her sword like anyone would caught in such a crazy situation. She didn't know for sure if these two were actually good people or bad dressed in armor.
The girl who had collided with her had cursed. No doubt she and the other one behind her that finally caught up to them had been chasing that figure earlier. Well, that explained the guy or whatever passing her. For a brief moment, the two sides observed one another. There was a moment of silence before finally, the two reacted to her. Rekka didn't pull out her weapon but she did watch the girl closely when she had spoken. She had raised her hands to sow her that they weren't going to do her any harm. However, the look she was giving Rekka made her wonder. She didn't realize her eyepatch had fallen off just yet.
For some odd reason, the girl turned to her companion and slapped him hard on the back of the helmet. Why was she doing that? Then again, it looked like they both had been staring at something. Confusedly, Rekka remained still where she was, rooted to the spot. So, the figure before had been an elf? Rekka had never seen one before. Looks like there was a first for everything. After smacking her companion, the girl turned to Rekka and held out a hand as she spoke. Looking into her eyes, Rekka could tell that she was being genuine. There was also that feeling one got that told her people were being true.
Removing her hand from the hilt of her sword, Rekka took the girl's hand and was able to get back to her feet again thanks to her help. It was around this time that she noticed something felt off. There had been an odd breeze where there shouldn't be on her old wound. It was around this time, while she spoke, that Rekka's hand went for where she usually wore the eyepatch. "It's...alright. I just thought you were going to hurt me at first. I can tell you mean no harm. Sorry for getting in the way though..." she trailed off when she wasn't able to find any string that usually wrapped about her head to keep her eyepatch on.
Immediately, she felt for it around her neck. When she didn't find it, Rekka turned away to look frantically for it. She hated whenever that injury was out in the open. Maybe that was why they had been staring oddly at her? It was embarrassing to know they had seen it. It wasn't a pleasant thing to see, after all. Finding the eyepatch, she bit her lip as she picked it up and gave a slight sigh. The string had snapped during the fall. 'Now what am I going to do?' she thought.

Relieved that the girl took her hand of her weapon, Lara had no problem helping her up. She listened to the girl's response and even nodded in understanding. "It's alright. It was my own fault for not paying better attention." It really was. Lara should have looked at all her surroundings, not just focusing on the runaway elf.
Billy at her side stayed silent and simply stood by. That was until the woman started feeling around her neck for something. Billy walked past her, over to where she fell, and picked up her eye patch. "You uh..." He started, walking back in front of her. "You dropped this mam." He held out the eye patch for her to take.
The sounds of footsteps behind Lara, made her look over her shoulder. Captain Justin and the rest of his party had arrived. Looking at them, none seemed hurt. "Bugger get away?" The small man asked.
Lara nodded. "Ya, it was my fault. We'll have to get him next time. What happened back there?"
"Worthless! Can't even catch a common criminal!" Alvi's voice told Amber. Lara ignored it and instead listened to the Captain's answer.
"We got all the way inside the warehouse when we were surrounded by heartless. I had twiddle dee and twiddle dum here take them on and I charged up the stairs to take the elf. Soon as I bust through the door, the bugger jumps out the window! Then I saw you run after him and we finished off the rest of those heartless and headed after ya. Whose she?"
Captain Justin was looking at Rekka.

Rekka wasn't sure how to respond to the woman's next set of words. She didn't generally blame others for something. At least the woman was kind and knew enough to admit faults, if any. It seemed like she was a genuinely friendly person so long as someone wasn't an idiot causing trouble in this world. Rekka felt that she was indeed, not in harm's way here. They weren't trying to deceive her.
As Rekka felt that odd breeze, she had come to the conclusion that she had dropped her eyepatch. Having seen what she had thought looked a lot like her eyepatch, Rekka had picked it up. The string she was seeing had been cut as if it had snapped. At this point, Rekka had believed that she had broken it and was feeling distraught. Now how was she going to hide her wound? It already sickened her enough that it had been in sight. Neither of the two though had been polite enough to not mention it. Rekka was grateful for that since it wasn't something she liked to talk about.
Rekka half considered bolting but thought better of it. She didn't need to spark suspicion over her insecurity with a revealed missing eyeball. Still, she felt exposed and didn't like it. Why did that jerk have to remove her eyeball on her? As her mind was running through what she was going to do, she heard the male companion of the armored lady. Looking over at him hadn't been easy. He had gone where her blind spot had been so she hadn't initially seen him pass her. When he returned, she was almost startled but managed to see what he had in his hand.
'How the heck did I mistake that string for my eyepatch?' Rekka thought in surprise. A feeling of relief overcame her then. She could still use it! It wasn't broken like she had thought. As the guy held it out to her, Rekka at least tried to turn her head a bit to conceal the hurt eye but enough to still see him. Appreciatively, Rekka took her eyepatch from Billy.
"Th-Thank you." As she had just finished saying this, others had arrived on the scene. During the distraction with the new arrivals, sounding as if they were affiliated with these two that Rekka had just met, Rekka hurriedly put her eyepatch back on. Unfortunately, she hadn't moved fast enough as she would have liked. She managed to get the patch part covering her eye, of course but well, her hair was sticking up oddly because of the string wrapped about her head improperly in her haste.
There had been mention of a battle with Heartless. Heartless were known to be everywhere. It was rare a world was void of the creatures of darkness. Rekka had learned this the hard way. How she managed to survive each time, she didn't know. It was probably pure luck. Still, despite her beliefs, she wasn't as helpless as she thought she was. Rekka didn't give herself any slack when it came down to things like that. She was always cutting herself down even if she did something right. It never felt right for her whenever she did accomplish something. Only when she managed something amazing enough to surprise herself was when she realized she had actually done something good.
No sooner had the man that had arrived explained his end of things, he had taken notice of Rekka. Her face slightly reddened out of embarrassment being put in the spotlight all of a sudden and her hair askew thanks to the failed attempt at putting back her eyepatch on quick. Would he think she was the target's associate? Hopefully not. Rekka was just here trying to find a healer and not trouble. Yet, it seemed she always managed to get herself into it. What rotten luck.
Having glanced over at the captain, Rekka lowered her gaze to the ground. It wasn't easy for her to look someone directly in the eye in this situation. There were too many faces looking at her and it made her stomach flip-flop. "R-Rekka, sir."

Lara decided it was better to pitch in, then have the Captain Justin ask just why she was sticking around. "I accidentally ran into her." She told her friend. The Captain was a pretty nice man. He, well the majority of the men in the group that had once been under her command as a Captain, were always over protective of her. Didn't matter that she was their captain at the time. All of those who had been in her command at the time were either a captain like Justin or had moved on to something else.
Captain Justin nodded in understanding, and looked over to Billy. "And where were you kid?"
Billy looked away in embarrassment. He was still standing next to Rekka. "I.. uh... I couldn't keep up."
The Captain's eyes narrowed. "Well then I think we will have to double your laps around the barracks tonight kid."
"Bu..but sir!" Billy started to object before the Captain cut him off.
"It ain't a punishment lad! You just need some more physical training. I'll make these two knuckledusters do it with ya!"
Now the other two were exclaiming, "What!" Lara couldn't help but just laugh. Captain Justin was a short man, with short legs, but he was probably faster then all three of these people. He sure was tougher! What was also funny about the situation was that Lara had done the same thing to Justin and her group when it became clear that the man wasn't as fast as the rest.
"I'll be joinin ya as well so quit your yappin! Now girl, you there!" The Captain hadn't remembered Rekka's name. "I see you got a sword there. Ya know how to use it?"

Rekka didn't think trying to leave would do her any good in this situation. So, politely, she remained quiet. No doubt, there would be questions thrown her way. She would answer them to the best of her abilities as to what she was doing here if she had to. Before she was asked anything further after introducing herself, she heard the armored girl speaking. It was nice of her to explain what Rekka had been doing there. She had the feeling that she was intruding on something which would have probably lead to questions as to what she was doing here with the girl and the armored guy.
The explanation that had been given seemed enough for the captain as he merely nodded in understanding. Looking over to the other figure of their group, Rekka heard him ask where he had been. Glancing over at Billy, Rekka could see what she thought was embarrassment cross over his face before looking away and answering the question. Looking back over at the captain, Rekka heard him state that he was going to double his laps around the barracks tonight. No doubt, a punishment. At least that's what she had thought until the captain explained, cutting Billy off, that it was just to help give the kid more physical training. Two others were to do the same. Said "knuckledusters" had exclaimed in unison at that one. The girl gave a laugh in response. Rekka thought it funny too but she refrained from letting out a chuckle. The captain was also apparently going to join them in the exercise which seemed to end the exclamations from that point on.
It wasn't long though before Rekka was spoken to again. Uncertainly, Rekka looked back over at the captain when he asked her if she knew how to use her sword. Well, she wasn't an expert on it but she was decent with it. Then the dread of him wanting to take it from her came to mind. It was her father's sword handed down to her when he died. She wasn't going to let someone take it from her. It was her only memento of him and the sword just felt natural in her hand despite her lack of skill. Rekka really hoped he wasn't going to remove it from her possession. It wasn't like she was going to hurt anyone with it unless someone tried to hurt her first.
Knowing keeping quiet might not be in her best interest, Rekka answered the captain politely and to the best of her abilities hoping that it would be enough. "...Yes, I know how to use it but I will be the first to let you know that I'm no expert at it. I-I only use it for when I need to use it. It's been handed down to me from my late father. I don't intend to use it, but when I do, it's only for self defense." Hopefully, after explaining where she got it from, they wouldn't take it from her.
If they did decide to take it from her, Rekka would probably turn and run. Until she knew for certain though, she wasn't going to move and politely stay put until they were finished speaking to her. After all, rash moves were never good things to do when dealing with authoritative figures that could land your butt in jail.

Lara remained silent on this part. She had no idea where Justin was going with his questioning about Rekka's ability. There was no law against holding weapons here on this world, except for fire arms. Only the army was allowed to use fire arms, and you had to belong to the special division to use them. Just to get into that division you had to go through a large amount of training and spend years practicing with the weapon. If someone on this world did have a fire arm... well there would be serious trouble.
Captain Justin was nodding along to Rekka. "Using it in defense is precisely how it should be used. Well how about you enlist in His Majesties Army?"
Ah! So that was where the Captain was going. Lara really took a look at Rekka now. Could she manage well as a soldier? Her obvious problem would be her huge blind spot thanks to the missing of her eye. Not everyone was cut out to be a soldier. It took time and training. When Lara had first enlisted she had been thrown in a company filled with new recruits and just one captain. The captain lost three of the five including herself as one of the surviving two. New recruits were put through hell there first weeks. But if she passed that... Lara saw potential.
"You are not a human nor are you an elf. You belong no where Amber! Emperor's bloody spawn!" Alvi's voice haunted her again. The sentence had been said in a very particular situation. One where Amber did not like to remember often. But she wasn't Amber anymore. She just had to remind herself that. She was Lara now.
"What do you think Commander?" Captain Justin asked her.
Lara nodded. "I think you would be of good use for the army. We have very few female warriors, and we could use more. Plus there are many privileges that a soldier has that a normal citizen might not."

Rekka was feeling a bit sick to her stomach thinking her sword might be taken away from her. It was her father's and she really didn't want to lose it. She meant no one harm by having one unless someone intended her harm first. She felt nervous after giving her answer. She didn't know the laws of this place but if holding a weapon like she was were illegal, then she'd rather peacefully leave rather than have her weapon taken away from her. Rekka tried to not look like she was in thought that would reveal her intention until she found out why the captain wanted to know of her sword skill.
As she looked at the captain, she could see that he was nodding his head acknowledging the things she was saying. He seemed like a good person. He had to be in such a position. There were authorities that could be grumpy. He didn't seem like the grumpy sort. What he said next though had stunned her. He agreed that the sword's use for defense was how it should be used. However, that wasn't what had stunned her. He was suggesting that she enlist in the majesty's army! Why was he doing a thing like that? She was polite and friendly, yes but they didn't know a thing about her. What if she was really a villain? Well, if she was, she'd kind of be in trouble anyways considering the whole army would be around her watching her. No sane person, unless extremely powerful, would attempt such a suicidal thing. Rekka was neither of those and she didn't intend to do anything of that sort.
First coming to this world, Rekka didn't ever think she'd run into people like this. She didn't even think she would be given what sounded like a job opportunity as well. Where Rekka had to take care of her mother, she did odd jobs back at home. Neither of those were enough to pay for the things that they needed though. Rekka strove to work hard at what she set her mind to but it never really seemed to pay off. On top of that, where t was nice to be offered such a thing, how was she going to take care of her mother? She could move her here, of course, but her mother was sickly and she wasn't sure how often she would be allowed to pay her family a visit. Surely, these knights here had to rest now and then? She wasn't one to take advantage of privileges given to her, of course, but she wondered if she'd be able to still see her mother or at least get her a healer before she could think of this option. It would be a good opportunity to improve her skills with the sword. Then, she'd be able to stop anything happening to her family again. Rekka felt torn and shocked.
As she was sorting her mind out, Rekka heard the captain then address the Commander. Looking over at the woman from before, she heard her speak. They didn't often get warriors in this world that were women and they could use more of them. How was this woman certain though that Rekka would be of use? None of them had even seen her use her sword. Heck, she was fleeing when they ran into each other! 'That and my eyeball's missing...' she thought to herself.
"Wh-Where I'd love to...seeing it as a great opportunity to improve my skill with the sword...I had come here to find a healer. My mother is ill and I've been taking care of her by myself. I'm...not of this world actually. I had come here using Gummi beans to travel. I had heard that this world would be the best when it comes to finding healers. If the offer still stands, I would like to because I would like to improve if I can, but I need to take care of my mother's health issue before I do. I'm all she has left and that's why I came here."

The captain's reaction to Rekka's first sentence was a slump in his face. Lara saw the transformation as Rekka sounded like she was going to turn down the offer. However as continued speaking the Captain's heart seemed to be uplifted.
The army didn't discriminate when taking those into the army. Not just everyone made it through, but everyone was allowed an equal chance. His Majesties army was the top in all the worlds. None matched it in terms of experience except for the elves. However the elves pretty much stayed in Elfhiem. There were very few here in the city.
Captain Justin smiled. "Well our medics are top notch as well. Have to be to service to the army. I'm sure the Division Commander here can write you a waiver for whatever you need. We got pretty much everything."
Lara raised an eyebrow. Oh she was just going to write a waiver was she? Of course she would, but she didn't like Justin thinking he could just speak for her. He was a friend, but Lara took her job seriously. She put her duties first, and social life and skills second. But Justin was right. Most of the soldiers who enlisted had these kind of services for their families. Usually a waiver just took a while to go through.
"It will be no problem." She offered with a smile. She was thinking that she better head back soon. She wondered if the First Commander had heard back from the king. Plus she was responsible for a lot.
Captain Justin raised an eyebrow and held out a hand, "Well?" He pushed.

Rekka didn't like turning people down. It wasn't a nice feeling but she knew what her priorities were first. Her mother needing care and she was showing that she was a good daughter in focusing on her mother's health first. Still, she wasn't beyond coming here to learn. Rekka knew it would be tough at first but it was to be expected. Becoming a knight in service to the army here would be a long road. If she only managed to improve in her sword skills a little and no more then that was fine with her. At least she would have tried rather than not. However, she wanted them to know that she needed to take care of her mom first.
When she had finished what she had to say, the captain seemed happy with her answer. At first he seemed dismayed but after listening to the full extent of what she had to say, he seemed happy with it. After she had finished, she heard the captain telling her that they had top notch healers and had to be in order to service the army. That was good to hear. If that were the case then Rekka would easily join up with them knowing her mother was tended to. Her mom didn't have anything contagious. It was just her condition was terrible because of the illness that she came down with. As for the other benefits, Rekka didn't really care. She wasn't one to just join for the sake of the benefits. Her main thing was just take care of her mother and to improve her sword skills.
After the captain explained this, Rekka looked over at the Commander. Before she could ask her though, she had stated that signing a waiver wouldn't be an issue stating that she would do it. A smile then appeared on Rekka's face. It was a huge relief to know that they were willing to help. She understood though that this was a job too. She would do her best as a soldier here. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
It was then that the captain redirected Rekka's attention onto himself. Holding out a hand, he inquired if she was in pretty much. Rekka looked back at him and gave a nod. Walking over, she held out her hand, took his and shook it. "I'm in, sir." It might surprise her mother that they would be moving but it was necessary. Things may just as well be better here than where they had previously lived. This was the world with the best of the best. Things couldn't go wrong here considering the risk Rekka was taking in having them move here.
