The poorly scrapped together gummi-ship came barreling towards the port at a dangerous pace. Kress hadn't had much experience piloting these ships and he didn't seem to be getting any better at it. The young man struggled with the control of the ship for quite a while, until he was finally able to steady his makeshift rocket. Unfortunately, he only managed to slow down the speeding ship a tad. Bracing himself for impact, Kress attempted to stop the ship a final time. This attempt only worsened his situation, causing him to flip around sideways until he crashed into a large pile of crates. The crash had left the inside of Kress's ship a mess and even left the ship upside down on the port. Kress had landed with his back against the ships door, looking like he had just survived the apocalypse. Sliding his goggles back on the top of his head, he scanned the mess that was his cockpit, searching for his weasel companion. "Wes?! Where are you man?" Kress didn't get an immediate response, which was odd. You couldn't shut Wes up if even if you were ignoring him, he would never not respond to Kress. After a few silent moments, Kress heard a muffled voice coming from behind him. Quickly sitting up, Kress looked back, seeing his very agitated weasel.
"What the hell was that Kress?! Aren't you supposed to be a genius or something? Stupid Elf-eared idiot." After his weasels little rant, it climbed up his body until it reached his left shoulder. Kress was too relieved to see that the duo made it out okay to be offended by Wes. Kicking the door latch open, Kress stumbled out his ship, landing on his hands and knees. He hadn't realised it during the crash, but all that tumbling really made him feel woozy and a bit unbalanced. Wherever he was, he was almost it had to be near some body of water judging by the moist ground. A few seconds passed until Kress's dizziness had wore off, allowing him to get a first clear look of where he had crash-landed. It was a grungy, damp looking world with shady people all around. In other words, one of the worst places the young man could have possibly landed. Turning his head to the right, Kress saw a vast, dark ocean filled with quite a few ships. Their designs appeared to resemble the stereotype of old wooden pirate ships Kress used to read about in his design books. "Pirate ships?! I never thought I'd ever get to see one of these bad boys up close. Well, bad girls I guess. Ships are always referred to as female, just so you know, Wes." His weasel raised a single eyebrow at him, shaking his head. "Right, 'cause I totally care."
If there was ever a time that Kress's attire made him stick out of the crowd, it was now. Heck, his bright yellow look normally stuck out in well-lit worlds, it was just plain ridiculous in this place. Though, seeing as how the ships were so stereotypical, he assumed there would stereotypical pirates around as well. That meant the pirates would probably have parrots on their shoulders, much like how Wes sits on his, so that aspect of his look shouldn't of attracted too much attention. This however was not the case however. As Kress walked around the port, he could feel all of the eyes that were staring at him, as if they were fingers poking him in the sides. The stares did bother him quite a bit, but being the optimist he is, he thanked the heavens he wasn't being approached by any of these scumbags. That was about to change. Just as he was about to head back to his ship, a large hand grabbed the back of his collar and jerked Kress back. Being spun around, Kress saw the man who had grabbed him and was disgusted. It was a vile, fat pirate-looking man who appeared to be angry at the duo.
"That be your ship Boy?!" Kress nodded slowly, staying completely still. "Well, it crashed into all me cargo laddy! And you're going to pay me back for all of it, you understand me boy?" Before Kress could even move a muscle, his weasel bit the pirates hand, causing him to drop Kress and squeal out in pain. "Now you listen here, Blubber-Gut! Me and Kress ain't paying you a damn thing. Another thing, you stink worse than a freaking sulfur-pit full of rotten eggs. It's called a shower tubbs, look it up!" Kress's eyes widened at his weasels comments, backing up from the pirate a bit. Scrambling to his feet, Kress began to sprint away from the pirate, knowing he wouldn't take too kindly to Wes's words. As he ran through the port's streets, he could hear footsteps racing behind him, figuring it was probably blubber-gut's crew. He hated to admit it, but as immature and harsh the name Wes gave the pirate was, Kress loved it. He sprinted for a good few minutes before making a sharp turn down an alley and crouching behind a waste container. Wes crawled off Kress's shoulder, putting an ear on the trash can. Hearing the other pirates footsteps pass by the alley, Wes looked up at Kress, giving him a nod. "Thanks for the save Wes, now come on let's get back to-." Kress stopped mid-sentence, realising that he had ran so far that he was lost.
Exiting the alley carefully, Kress looked around the street letting out a small sigh. "Welp, better start asking around for directions pal." Wes nodded in agreement, nudging Kress. "Yeah, but watch out for Blubber-Gut's goons. I don't wanna get my paw's dirty Kress." Kress really didn't want to engage a confrontation with any of the pirates, but then again, he didn't want to ask these shady people for directions either. Choosing what he considered the lesser of two evils, Kress began asking everyone in the area for directions.
(OOC: As you could probably tell, the dialogue for Kress and Wes are color coordinated. Light green=Kress, brown=Wes. Blubber-Gut=royal blue. Well, if he returns, I'm not thinking that far ahead lol. If the text is hard to read, let me know and I'll pick new colors.)

'Be nice to five people!'
Just... what kind of mission was that!? What authority would ever force one human being to exhibit kindness to other human beings without any objective or benefits in mind? Donating to charity was kindness but fulfilling, teaching children was kindness and fulfilling, but just... randomly!? She was going to curse her professor for such a daunting task if she knew how to call upon the voodoo powers of hexing but unfortunately that element was out of her ballgame.
Kendra stood around leaning against a building here, the hood on her frock over her head and her head tilted down with her eyes beaming at the ground. She wasn't fuming or anything, just agitated that she was sent on a ridiculous mission 'for her own good'. Why did she have to be able to deal with people? Plenty of mages went about their life with minimal human interaction... tch. And here of all places, filled with pirates and scallywags. Why would she want to be nice? Whatever.
Though, the moment she looked up, she saw an interesting boy with a weasel being chased by some bad-looking dudes before he turned the corner and slipped into an alley. The bad dudes didn't see the latter of those actions and kept going past the alley and of course they didn't have the same point of view that Kendra had. A few seconds later the boy popped out and casually started walking back the way he came. Another dude turned around, nudged his buddy and they started creeping up on him from behind, and he seemed to be oblivious to the fact.
'Be nice...!'
Kendra looked down again, tugged hard on her hood and shook her head. "I.. can't.." she muttered to herself. She wanted to tell him. She wanted to so bad. Her heart pounded as interacting with people was her weakest aspect. She just... They were getting closer, and it was now or never. Kendra took a big gulp, shuddered for a second, breathed heavily, and then jumped out. "Weasel boy, look out!" She shouted, closing her eyes and turning to the side, holding out her staff and shooting two strong bolts of water at the pirates, knocking them both over and getting them wet. She couldn't bear to look as to what would happen next.

Kress was mid-sentence with a stranger until he heard someone say "weasel boy." Figuring that the name couldn't really fit anyone else, Kress rapidly turned back towards two pirates who were walking towards him. Before he could do anything, the pirate's were knocked down by.... Water? That was odd. Well, Kress had seen water used and could even use it himself, he just never expected to see it used here. Looking back, Kress saw a hooded figure holding a staff. The figure did peak Kress's interest. The people on this dock didn't seem too friendly and this person just went out of their way to help him. Kress probably would've been lost in thought for awhile, but was interrupted by his weasel dropping his energy pistols in his hand. "Hey! Quit your day-dreaming and blast these jerks already!" Aiming the two strange-looking pistols at the pirates, Kress nodded in agreement. "Wes, Give me some lightning, will ya?" After Kress's request, the weasel began to turn bright yellow, causing sparks to come out of the boys gun.
Kress couldn't help but let out a slight smile. He rarely ever got to mix elements and this stranger just helped him do so. "Ready partner, let 'er rip!" With his weasels charge done, Kress fired out five shots, but they were not aimed at the pirates. Kress aimed at the water the stranger had conjured, causing electricity to be channeled through it. The pirates shrieked out in pain as the lightning jolted their wet bodies. Kress turned around to give the stranger a smile and a thumbs up, but the look on his face quickly soured. "Water person! Behind you!" Kress fired two shots at the shadowy figures behind the stranger, knowing that it wouldn't kill them, but would hopefully stun them. Before Kress could even turn back to the pirates, he felt a sharp pain in his hands. He didn't even have time to blink before one of the two pirates kicked his pistols out of his hands, causing them to slide away.
"Dammit! How the hell did you manage tha-." Kress was interrupted by a strong kick to his gut, causing him to land on his back and slide a bit. Without wasting a second, Kress got on his feet and unsheathed his sword. He felt a bit confident, until he saw the two pirates whip out their swords. Kress tightened his grip on his swords handle, scowling a bit. He hadn't fought many other swordsmen and wasn't looking forward to it. Blocking the pirates incoming attacks with his sword, Kress swung low, sweeping the pirates feet. As the pirates hit floor, Kress motioned at Wes give him his tool bag, which was on the weasels back. The weasel crawled on Kress's arm, allowing him too easily reach into the tool bag. Searching through the bag frantically, Kress finally found what he was looking for, a smoke bomb. Kress pegged the bomb down towards the pirates, sliding his goggles over his eyes.
"C'mon Kress lets get out of here!" Wes blurted out, scurrying up to Kress's shoulder. Kress began to sprint away, but then remembered the stranger who had helped him earlier. The stranger would most likely be targeted by the pirates now for helping the boy. Skidding to a sudden stop, Kress made a quick dash back to the stranger, staggering a bit. "Hey, names Kress. I really appreciate the help and I'd love to talk more, but we should probably go." Wes was a bit cranky that his partner was offering help to someone when he was the one in trouble, but it was also kind of expected by now. "Come on water-weirdo, let's get the heck outta here!" The weasel was always a bit harsh towards strangers, heck he even hated Kress when they first met and still seemed to have some sort of disliking towards him. Kress didn't exactly have time to wait around for a response from the hooded figure. He figured they would follow him if they wanted to so he sprinted away from the smoke bomb he had thrown.

Once she heard the impact of the bolts and the defeated cries of grown, burly men being knocked over, Kendra turned her head back to witness the fruits of her efforts. Success! Now to get out of here before the weasel boy had a chance to make his way over and thank her-- except, he decided to take measures into his own hands. He held out two pistols and asked his companion for lightning. Kendra raised her arm and put her free hand over her mouth. Maaaaybe that was going a bit too far?
Despite her initial idea to get away quickly, she couldn't take her eyes off the show. The ghoulish pirates were being violently electrocuted by the boy's energy shot. Quite impressive really, if she felt any sympathy for the pirates she might even feel bad for them. Well, that was all fun and easy to enjoy but now she really should get going before something really bad were too-- Nope.
Even though she wasn't the most appreciative of 'water person', it could have been much worse. Regardless she heeded the warning and whoop there it is! Two more gangly crew members continuing their assault and now Kendra was in the fray. Fan-flipping-tastic. She let out a bit of a high-pitched shriek to convey her surprise regarding being snuck up on. Before she could really react further though a couple bolts of energy shot past her and quite accurately stunned the pirates. She did a double take behind her, saw the boy pointing his pistols, wanting to think him but...
She would gasp and point but it would be too late. The original pair of goons were on the offensive yet again. "Aiyieyieyie! What do I do now..." she muttered to herself. Looking behind her, the two that were there started to come back to a conscious fruition and she really didn't want to be around to deal with that. Maybe she should just make a rainstorm and deliver some high-impact-- cut off once again. Smoke filled the area and the weasel boy went zipping past her. Oh dear.
Well, what would she do now? Unfortunately she wouldn't make a decision as the boy came back, introduced himself as Kress, and claimed they should leave. Good choice really. The weasel spoke too which initially surprised her; she's never seen a talking animal, but it called her a... water weirdo. Kendra hung her head as she realized that once again her class of spells was too different for a more ordinary person to recognize. But, the boy left again, and then it registered that she needed to be running. "Oh. Right." She mumbled to herself. "Hey, w-wait up! Don't f-forget mee!" She called after him.
Desperately hoping this boy didn't mean to call her a weirdo (even though it was the Weasel who spoke) and that she could thank him for earlier (which it didn't occur to her that she helped him first actually) and maybe she could have someone in this world to help her 'be nice'. Desperate indeed. She took a couple initial running steps before jumping forward and waving her staff, summoning a small torrent of water which she landed on and rode to surf along the pathway at a speed just faster than the rate the boy ran meaning she would catch up rather quickly.

Upon seeing the stranger up close and hearing their voice, it appeared they were female. For any other young, ignorant male, this would have been a plus. This was not the case with Kress. As if his social skills weren't awkward enough, (his best and only friend being a weasel contributing to that he was a nervous wreck when attempting to speak with females. Freeing his mind of these petty thoughts, Kress remembered he had bigger problems. The weasel tilted his head watching the stranger follow them. Wes really didn't find them that weird at all, quite the opposite in fact. Seeing someone able to use elements other than themselves really reminded the duo of their home world. Unfortunately, that means it brought back more bad memories than good ones, but enough to make the weasel slightly more trusting in this person. That wasn't saying much. However, the stranger did manage to impress Wes (not that they should have wanted to) when they were riding along the water. That was something he and Kress never thought of or would've even been able to manage.
"Hey, don't look now, but the surfin' bird is following us." Looking back at his partner, Kress shook his head and rolled his eyes. "I swear, I really should just hand you over to the freaking pirates. I'm sure they'd enjoy your company." Kress's words were harsh, but obviously sarcastic, resulting in Wes simply making a face at his partner. Kress's eyes darting anxiously around the port as he dashed, looking for some sort of path or hideout and coming out empty hand. He couldn't see anything that could make some much-needed space between the pirates and his posse. Worrying about staying ahead of their pursuers, Kress looked back, tripping on a crate. The elf boy fell hard, skidding a bit on his stomach after landing and sending his weasel flying off his shoulder. Kress let out a slight groan as he stood up, sluggishly.
As Kress got ready to sprint once more, he heard a very bad creaking noise coming from above him. Looking up, he saw a huge tower of crates, cargo, barrels and countless other types of containers. In about the middle of the containers, there was a very familiar brown furry bottom sticking out. "Oh gods, How the..... I don't even want to know." Kress Couldn't leave Wes stranded, as tempting as it was. However, he couldn't just stop everything and help his partner out this moment. Hearing the pirates getting closer, Kress had a spark of genius. Knowing he had to be precise, he began doing some calculations in his head. Concentrating so hard on his plan, he hadn't even realised he was muttering words to himself and making stranger hand gestures. With every second Kress wasted, he could here the pirates getting closer. Performing a final akward hand motion, Kress was ready for his idea.
He raised his right arm and aimed it at the center barrel of the humongous pile. A thin wire came shooting out of his leather wristband, locking into the barrel. Kress had a bit of a struggle pulling the barrel down, even more so than he had expected. He was able to inch it slightly out of place after a few attempts. Luckily for Kress, that was enough for what he had planned. The slightly moved barrel caused all the other containers to come crashing down, leaving a cloud of dust as it landed. Kress let out a excited laugh, accompanied by a dorky fist pump. "Man, that was better than I thought it would be. Blocked off those damn pirates too." The wire began retracting, pulling the Wes-occupied barrel towards him. Kress popped the barrel top off, pulling Wes out. "This crappy cargo is mine." The young gave his weasel a small smile as he place it on his shoulder.
"Yeah, you're a real riot, big-ears." The weasel hopped off his shoulder, walking along besides him. Kress approached the new stranger, extending out his hand. "Hey.... Uh, sorry about all that crap back there. I'm-wait, I already gave you my name... Let me start ove-." Kress was interrupted by Wes crawling back up to his shoulder and blurting something out. As usual. "Look lady, he appreciates the help blah blah, His names Kress, I'm his partner Wes. Blah Blah Blah nice to meet you. This is where you introduce yourself, water woman." Kress glared at Wes, who simply smiled back at him, holding out his paw.

Things were going a bit smoother than the girl originally expected - both of them made it out with their skin and they managed to make quite the bank in terms of distance from the epicenter of the original problem. She could dig it. From here, she just wanted to properly thank him and just... get out. One would be good enough, right? There's no way the scholar was going to expect her to do all five? Well, there's no way she could commit herself to something like that again. Not now, not ever.
But those plans would come crashing down in front of her; quite literally actually as the boy looked back, tripped and flung himself into a stack of cargo which came tumbling down and caused a huge mess. Fantastic. Kendra did a harsh turn to the side and wiggled back out to swerve around the mess to which the water immediately dispersed when she was finally around. Her instinct was to make an inquiry as to his condition but her nerves acted up once again making her hesitate. She gripped her hands into fists and clenched them tight as she cursed herself for not being able to do a simple task.
Even though she'd rather never deal with another human again, this boy seemed nice enough despite his misunderstanding by him or the Weasel referring to her with such weird titles that she didn't like, but maybe once he told him otherwise he would stop... even though that's never worked before. She desperately hoped this time that it would work. He did help her before after all, right after she helped him. Ugh, this was too hard. "Hey, are y--... are you o--" She began to say, stuttering and second guessing herself originally but the second attempt was cut off by another loud crash.
What was left of the tower of cargo rolled out behind the pile and created another huge mess which this time blocked off access from where they just came from. Kendra jumped back, shrieking a little bit and putting both hands over her gasping mouth. They would remain there until the boy popped out with his talking weasel friend. He talked to her a little more which made her turn to the side, as if he was trying to hide from him in plain sight. She looked at the hand, back to him, back to the hand and back to his eyes again. Wait, eye contact. Her gaze shifted to the ground at the right side of the boy.
Being extremely hesitant to shake his hand, the boy would get succeeded by the Weasel, coming up and telling her things straight. He wasn't making this any easier. The boy was awkward and she was awkward, she could almost sympathize and make this whole meeting thing easier but the Weasel would throw all out of that right out the window. This is where she introduced herself? Gulp! Well, here she goes.
Looking back at the hand, she brought one arm out halfway, stopped a bit as if she had second thoughts about it, extended her fingers, and slowly approached him once more (very slowly) and shut her eyes as she grasped he hand, loosely. A quick shake and she recoiled her hand back and stood awkwardly with her hands at her chin. "I-- uh... m-my name is Kendra..." She said. What came out of her mouth next was not of her own volition but was eating away at her from the inside anyway. If she had a choice, she might've chosen not to say anything but it was going out now... "D-do you really think my... Water magic is that weird?" She asked. Oh gosh, incoming volley of hate! "I'm sorry!" She suddenly blurted, closing her eyes and turning her head to the side again. Oh dear.

Upon seeing the girls body language, Kress recognized it immediately. Awkwardness, the same problem he himself was burdened with. Although Kress normally relied on his weasel to talk for him when he couldn't, he could see that Wes was only making it worse. Kress tried not to look at her, thinking that it would help in some way. Everytime Kress was about to say something, he'd just close his mouth trying to form the words better in his head. It bugged the crap out of him.He had a genius-level IQ and still couldn't grasp the basic concept of human interaction. Having the girl identify herself as Kendra was kind of an accomplishment for Kress in a way. Sadly enough, Kress had no idea what to say after she gave her name. Luckily for him, Kendra gave him something to work with.
Kress hadn't recalled making any remarks about her water abilities. He was actually quite envious of the water surfing she had performed, but that's when it hit him. Kress shot a sudden glare at Wes, flicking him on the nose. After so many years with the weasel, the boy had grown immune to the weasels many insults and nicknames. "Umm... I don't think we're allowed to call you weird." Kress gave a slight nervous smile before pointing to himself and Wes. "I-I mean look at us.... A elf-eared freak and a loud-mouthed annoying weasel." Wes nodded in agreement at the elf-ear freak comment, but quickly scowled hearing the following comment. "Loud-mouthed?!" Wes grunted, muttering hurtful comments under his breath. Kress simply smiled as his point was proven, looking back over at Kendra.
Kress really wanted to befriend Kendra, he never really got to talk to anyone that wasn't his weasel. With Wes's bothersome attitude, that was a terrible fate. Even in his hometown, he was the outcast of the village. Not being the best with words, Kress figured it was better to just show that any elemental power couldn't weird him out. "Wes, water!" Wes scowled a bit, still a bit bitter about the "loud-mouthed," remark, but still obliged. Turning a pale blue color, the weasel channeled water through Kress. Kress had always liked the feeling of water channeling through him the most. Mostly because the others had some sort of jolt of pain or burning sensation, but water always seemed to leave a calming, soothing feeling.
Unsheathing his sword, Kress aimed it towards the sea. In a matter a seconds a large, spherical ball of water launched out of his sword, slowly descending into the ocean. With the water sphere leaving his blade, Wes faded back to his light brown color. "See? We're not exactly strangers to water powers.. or any element really..." Kress gave Kendra a slight smile before Wes jumped off of his shoulder, approaching Kendra. "Yeah, that's right, we got water too Kenny! So you ain't that special. And another thi-." Wes was interrupted by Kress's hand clamping over his mouth, but still was letting out muffled sounds. "You'll have to forgive my partner... H-he has a hard time warming up to people.... And remembering names. Just ignore him." Even this simple of a conversation was a battle within Kress's mind.
There was so much Kress wanted ask Kendra about her powers, ranging from what her strongest water spell was to how did she ever think of surfing along her conjured water. Unfortunately, he could only build up the courage to ask one of the many he had. "Can you use other elements? Not that just conjuring water isn't awesome, I'm just wonderi-.... Oh gods, I'm talking too much." Kress shook his head, tugging on his hat a bit. "Let me start over.... Do you like coffee? Er I-." Wes placed his paw over Kress's mouth easily. "That was painful. Let's start with an easy question, eh Kressy? Tell us Kenny, how long have you been using water?" Aside from using the wrong name for Kendra, Kress was impressed. Wes had managed to say a sentence without an insult in it.

Originally she was too nervous to give the boy proper eye contact, but he said something she never would've expected in a million years. He expressed that he wouldn't call her weird. Her eyes widened and she couldn't believe her ears. She perked up a bit, hoping for a twist in the conversation. Instead of being told all of the nasty things she was used to, she desperately hoped it would actually turn around into something that might be positive. She wasn't unfamiliar with the bait-and-switch, but she wasn't home or dealing with those she was used to doing it, so maybe...
And then the boy proceeded to try and cheer her up by explaining himself even to be freakish and even went as far as to make a comment about the Weasel, who reacted not the happiest. Kendra giggled a bit once Wes spoke up, she couldn't resist. She wanted to hear more about how she was going to be insulted at every turn while interacting with another human being. While initially nervous and scared, she saw some true intents for once and wanted a moment like this to never end.
What went in instead, however, was the boy asking his Weasel for water. Wait; what was he doing? After some chilling effects, the boy took his sword and launched a volatile sphere of water into the ocean as per some kind of spell. Oh... He could use water magic too! Wasn't he using lightning earlier? So... He was multi-faceted? Cool! Elemental magicians weren't exactly rare where Kendra was from, but lineage was very important amongst magic. Fire wizards were born from Fire wizard parents. The fact that Kendra was born of two parents who wielded the Arcane... well it caused a stir. Still, she had her affinity and loved her own magic. She whipped her staff across her body, held it up and leaned it forward and yelled "Drench!", launching a bubble similarly to Kress's but seemed to move master and more straight, bursting apart before lobbing into the ocean. She giggled again.
It wasn't even that spellcasters of two different school could not mate, and typically their child would only inherit one school of magic, typically the mother's. Some more powerful children managed to wield multiple elements, but there was only ever one very insightful mage who could wield all schools of magic. He is still alive in fact, and is esteemed in the magic community for being unnaturally talented. But there was still a strong societal stigma against mages like Kendra who are considered mutations. It was horrible.
More so even, Kress mentioned being familiar with... more elements. Kendra's mouth gaped, as she wondered where exactly this boy was from as it seemed his magic was... far more involved. Where exactly this boy from that he had access to multiple elements? Her train of thought would be promptly derailed by Wes calling her the wrong name and giving off a trademark rude comment to which Kress shushed him and went on to say for the girl to ignore him. "O-okay..." She replied, a bit star-struck from the sudden blurt still. At least the boy was trying to be nice, anyway.
Despite that, Kress wanted to salvage the conversation and inquire as to Kendra's level of ability. Well, this would be another test! If he didn't judge her for use of water magic, would he judge her for not being able to use other types? It eased to conscious to remember that this boy didn't know her lineage and could not use that stigma against her. Hopefully the question of her parents would never come up. Though... the boy took things a little too far when he went into awkward-mode. Oh jeez. Wes to the rescue. Well, sort of.
"Umm. My name is Kendra, not Kenny." She said with a surprising burst of confidence. Normally she wouldn't have minded but she wanted to be treated right for once. It was a sub test. "And uh... Umm... Well, I can only use Water magic, but I've had it all my life really. I've been practicing since fourteen though.. L-like anyone else, of course..." She said, her gaze shifting off to the left and leading her to awkward shuffle her right foot around a bit. Hopefully that's what he wanted to hear.

Kress was still in a bit of a trance after seeing Kendras water spell. She had just performed a water spell effortlessly, a spell that took the duo a while to even attempt at that. He found it kind of awesome that she called out the spell. It reminded of him of the hero's in the comic books he used to read back on his home world. Probably a compliment he should keep to himself, he doubted she'd be appreciative of being called a comic book hero.
Wes's ears perked up slightly when Kendrea spoke up about her name. He never really ever got talked back to, aside from Kress, and was genuinely shocked. But hey, the weasel had a rep to live up to. He couldn't just be kind to this stranger right away, he didn't have Kress's mindset when it came to strangers. Wes would rather just thank the girl for her help and vanish, but he knew his partner wouldn't allow such an option. "Whatever, Kendra. Kenny, Kendall, Kendra they're all the same." Kress rolled his eyes and shook his head a bit, knowing his weasel was just being difficult. No change there. Kress's head lowered a bit when He heard the phrase "like anyone else." He had not been able to use Wes's powers at fourteen, that only happened at the age of fifteen for the elf-eared boy. But even at fifteen, he had little control over them. It made him truly wonder what kind of world she must come from and the skill level of mages from said world.
Looking back at Kendra, Kress gave her an uneasy smile. "Well, That's pretty normal from I'm used to. Most magic users only get one type of elemental magic on my world. But... I-I've never really seen it used to surf like that..." Kress quickly looked up, shaking his head frantically. "Not that it's a bad thing... It- uh it was cool." This was incredibly difficult for Kress. He hadn't really talked to people from other worlds and question after question was popping in his head every second. Do they have spirit animals on her world? Do people enjoy coffee on other worlds? What about comic books? The list was endless. Although Kress was socially challenged, he at least knew not to ask all of his silly questions and stick to the simple questions. Before Kress could even open his mouth, Wes busted out laughing.
"Damn Kress, she started earlier than you AND her water spell was more powerful." Kress let out a slight grunt, but then tilted his head a bit. "Wait... I can't even cast spells alone Wes... Wouldn't that make your magic weaker?" Wes's laughter stopped dead in it's tracks, leaving a scowl on Wes's face. Wes really hated when Kress shut him up and unfortunately for Wes, it happened quite a bit. Wes also didn't like the fact that Kendra wouldn't look at the duo either. "Hey! Kendra! Why can't you look at us. It's Kress's ears, ain't it! Why you insensitive litt- Ow!" Kress slapped Wes on the back of the head with one hand, while using his other to pull his hat down over his ears. He knew that Kendra likely didn't care, but his ears were always a sensitive subject.
Kress wanted to change the subject as soon as possible, thinking of anything to say. Every second of Kress's silence caused the boy to turn a bright shade of red until he finally blurted something out. "Do you want to be friends?!" As soon as Kress finished his sentence, he slapped his hand over his mouth, hoping that it would some way keep the sentence from being heard. Pretty stupid thinking for a genuis. Trying to keep his cool (as if he had any) Kress decided to ask a different question as soon as he could. "So... Um.. W-what brought you to this shady world?" Kress asked the question with his eyes closed, not wanting to even see the look on Kendra's face. Or Wes's face for that matter. He was sure Wes had a big, goofy smile on his face. Knowing his partner so well, Kress opened his left eye slightly and confirmed his theory. At this point, he was pretty much expecting the usual. Some sort of rejection of a friendship in a kind or rude manner, (normally the latter) followed by the person walking away from Kress. He hoped it wouldn't be that way, but couldn't help but expect the worse.

The extremely shy girl could take a certain liking to this boy, even if she had to deal with that annoying weasel. Well, maybe that was a bit harsh but the boy was doing his best to try and be nice to Kendra and the little rascal on his shoulder seemed to work entirely against it. Oh well. She was amazed she got this much attention in the first place, normally she's just disliked by anyone, but for this situation it was only half of the crowd. Better than none.
Once the weasel began to berate her name even further by an expression of not caring in the slightest, it would only solidify her position as in limbo. How long would it be before the boy started taking on the Weasel's opinion as his own? It's what everyone did, it would only be a matter of time before the boy would be forced to not care for her anymore from Wes's influence. Still, the girl felt battered and would thus know to let her name be incorrect for an eternity since it obviously wouldn't matter at this point. She lowered her head and stared at her feet.
Tilting her head and looking up just a tiny bit while a little sideways, the water witch perked up when Kress spoke again, eventually admitting that he thought her magic was 'cool'. This alone got her pretty excited. "Oh! Gosh... d-do you really mean that?" She spoke up, getting ahead of herself. She desperately wanted him to say yes, if things could get going this good this far in, she was really hopeful about maybe not being completely hated for once.
Not celebrating for long, the weasel interrupted them once again, seemingly insulting Kress for Kendra actually being... better than him? Seriously, why did that boy keep the little rascal around if he was bitter to everyone, even his own partner? Oh, but it didn't end there, Kress retaliated with quite the zinger. Kendra would giggle slightly in response, muffled by trying to keep her mouth shut. Shifting focus, the weasel decided to attack Kendra again instead of furthering the earlier argument. She had a hard time maintaining eye contact, sure, but what about his ears-- oh. They were, a bit different? With all of the avoiding eye contact she never actually noticed them before.
"No, it's not-- I just..." She tried to spit out, just looking down again, not sure how to recover from this unfair attack. What does she say that wouldn't just be used against her!? She didn't want to insult the boy either! Luckily, she wouldn't have to think for long as Kress's sudden request for friendship caused her thoughts to instantly de-rail, her head to jerk up and her hands to cusp over her mouth, her eyes widened with a bit of shock. Her heart thumped heavily in her chest. Did he... did he really? Well, the boy asked another question, she didn't really catch it.
Her mind was set to have the boy's request for friendship on infinite loop, not sure how to react. She kept wanting to just say yes over and over again, each time the request played in her mind, her mind would just answer 'yes'. Eventually she couldn't take it anymore. Kendra rushed forward and hugged the boy tightly, burying her head on his shoulder. Normally she wouldn't act so rashly but she was so blatantly overloaded with emotion that she couldn't rationally sort her thoughts. Whenever she was this troubled around her old professor, she would suddenly hug them and the professor would hug her back and assure her that everything was going to be okay. She knew this boy wasn't her best friend that's one of the only people who's ever accepted her, but she desperately wanted to be told that everything was going to be okay. She remained silent but tears would very subtly build up behind her eyes.

Kress's face remained as red as it was since the mention of his ears. Unfortunately for Kress, it was only going to get worse. Kendra hadn't done anything to suggest she was as cruel as his peers from his world, but Kress still had a deep worry in his gut. He couldn't understand it. He could talk to Wes, who was insanely difficult for anyone else to converse with, but not a kind girl. Or anyone for that matter.
Kress kept his eyes shut, waiting for the barrage of insults or possibly even laughter. Kress was shocked so much by Kendra's sudden action, it actually scared him a bit. Originally thinking she was trying to tackle him or harm him, he opened one eye, seeing that this sudden motion was a hug. He looked a bit dumbfounded at this point. Had he seen hugs before? Of course. Had he given them or received them often? Hell no. Besides his mothers overly-tight hugs and the grapples he received from school bullies, he hadn't ever gotten what could qualify as a hug. Kress's mind was wild with his thoughts. Was he supposed to hug her back? Did she want to be friends? Was she having some sort of PTSD attack? Kress couldn't think of what say or do really. He simply looked over at Wes, raising an eyebrow.
Wes himself had a confused look on his face, only able to give Kres a shrug. They had never really prepared for a moment like this. Any normal person would be able to react to this easily, but Kress and Wes were used to being the odd man (or animal) out and this was no easy task. After a few moments of stillness from Kress, he slowly moved his arms around her. Once his arms were around Kendra, he gently patted her back with one of his hands. He wasn't exactly sure if this was a normal thing to do when hugging someone, but he had a seen a few people do it while hugging. "I'm.. I'm guessing this is your way of saying yes?" Kress shed a big, dorky grin. He had made his first friend. Well, his first human friend. If he can even count Wes as a friend at times. Wes smiled and jumped on Kress's head. "Hey! If your his friend, your my friend. So get used to it." In his own way, that was a warm hearted statement for the weasel.
Wes began to fix Kress's hat, moving it to the back of his head, where it usually is. Kress was a little too preoccupied with the surprise hug he got to mind that his ears were exposed. Kress never thought he'd enjoy hugs as much as he did. He always thought they just looked weird when he had seen other people giving them. Something about it was slightly warming, he couldn't quite describe it. He was so lost in thought, he had forgotten he was stil hugging Kendra. He quickly snapped his hands back to sides, leaving his face a bright red. Luckily, Wes saved the moment, blurting out something... Helpful? That was odd.
"Y'know, this is really sweet and nice kiddies, but we really shouldn't be somewhere out in the open. Just saying." Kress wasn't used to Wes actually looking out for him, so this was a pleasent surprise. "Good point Wes, we should find a building or something, then try to form a plan about those pirates." Wes nodded until he heard mention of challenging the pirates. "What?! Oh, you better be freaking kidding me! I'm not going." Kress shook his head, looking slightly serious for once. "Wes, these guys have probably been terrorizing the whole damn port for a while now. If we sneak past them knowing that, we're worse than they are." Wes let out a grunt, turning his head away from Kress and Kendra while crossing his arms. "C'mon partner, you know I can't do it without you."
The weasel looked back with one eye, until he slapped Kress's hand. "Okay, alright. But if we get our asses kicked, remember pretty boy, it's on you." The boy simply gave his companion a grin and a nod. Kress looked over at Kendra, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Hey... Um, we'd appreciate the help, but if you'd rather get yourself uninvolved with all this, I wouldn't think any less of you." Part of Kress didn't even want to give his new friend a choice, but who was he kidding, he needed all the help he could get. Wes had the exact opposite way of thinking when it came to Kendra. He found it completely unfair that she got a choice, Kress basically forced it on the weasel. Ingoring his other two partner's Wes scanned the enviorment for some sort of shelter. He finally laid his eyes upon a perfect place, a pub. Besides actually being a place to plot, it also contained food and Wes was starving.
"Let's go to that pub, Kressy. I'll let you buy me some food." The weasel hopped uo and down on s Kress's shoulder excitedly, pointing forward. "Seriously Wes? Hiding from pirates in a pub... Yeah, that makes sense. Alright, I'll get you some food, if not just to shut you up." With that, Wes began to tug on Kress's shirt. Kress looked over at Kendra, raising an eyebrow. "Are y-you hungry as well?"

When the boy reciprocated the hug after a little bit of time, the girl had almost lost it. At this age, she really shouldn't be so easily driven to such emotions but being thrown into a world one doesn't know and asked to do the one thing they are the worst at... well it was a hefty combination for disaster. But now Kendra had found Kress, her first friend on this world. She didn't know what to be happier about, that she had finally met a friend or that she realized this pointless mission of hers might be possible.
"I, uhm..." She said awkwardly, as the boy finally broke contact and the Weasel began to speak some more. She felt like if something was going to work out between them, she was just going to have to ignore him unless absolutely necessary to respond. Even if the Weasel declared that he was going to be friends too if Kress was. She didn't know how much more of the antics she could handle. Regardless, there was still a situation on their hands.
Apparently Kress was part of some bigger mesh of plans going on along here, since he needed to deal with the pirates further - not just escaping from them, but actually dealing with them. That sounded like quite the task, but would Kendra be willing to help? It seemed that a decision would have to come sooner rather than later as Kress brought it up explicitly that Kendra may not involve herself if she so desired. You know what? Screw her mission. This sounded more like what would be in order for a high-class mage. The defense of the town. Kendra nodded. She took a deep breath.
"I think... I will help. Yeah. You have no idea what I'm capable of yet, after all!" She said, twirling her body a bit with her staff in one arm. And then there was the matter of food; the sheer mention of the idea of eating let a low growl emerge from the small quiet girl. "Ehe..." She let out a small breath of laughter as a result. "Well, if you're treating... I'll come." She said. Now that is was established that the two were going to be friends and that he wasn't going to torment her (at least not yet), she felt a little more comfortable talking to him.

Kress was pleased to hear that their new ally would be joining them. Unfortunately, his initial happiness was overshadowed with a heavy dose of worry. What if the pirates were too much for them to handle? Kress would never forgive himself if something happened to Kendra or even Wes. He had to shake his head free of his worries, it was unlike him to feel negatively about many situations. After all, he actually had a companion who could cover him and actually attack on their own. It was a nice reassurance. Kress gave Kendra a thumbs up before giving Wes a fist bump. "Yeah, I can cover you. Heck, you can order as much as you'd want and you still wouldn't be as bad as Wes is." Wes didn't even take the comment as an insult, quite the opposite really. Standing up on Kress's shoulder, Wes puffed out his chest. "Yeah, that's right. I'm a bottomless pit, baby."
Kress wasn't too comfortable with the way the pub looked. But then again, just about everything looked shady in this town. It was probably better to just ignore the nervousness he felt. As Kress opened the door to the pub, a foul smell entered his nostrils. It was like a mixture of chewing tobacco and body odor. The smell was coming from a dirty looking man who was exiting the pub as Kress opened the door. Although the smell made him want to vomit, it was fortunate the man making such a foul stench was heading out the door. The boy entered the pub rather quickly, scanning out the place for a good table. Kress's shy nature kicked in and he saw the perfect place for his friends. The table in the very back of the pub.
He figured if he was gonna plot with how to deal with the pirates, he shouldn't do it around other pirates and criminals. Making his through the pub, he pulled out Kendra's and his own chair. The plopped down into his chair, letting out a sigh of relief. "Gods, it feels really good to sit." His weasel yawned and hopped on to the table, popping a few bones. "Let me guess Kress, the usual for you?" Kress nodded, placing a piece of paper and a pencil on the table. "Yeah, yeah. A chili-cheese dog. Get whatever you want Kendra. Don't uh, don't be shy." He found it odd he was telling someone else not to be shy. A bit hypocritical in a way. Before Kress could open his mouth to speak about the plan, Wes interrupted the boy. "So Kress, got that plan for us hidden in those ears?"
He let out an annoyed grunt, glaring at the weasel. "Right. Well, before we do anything, we'd have to take out those freaking ships. We don't want them leaving the port with all that cargo, most of it is probably stolen." Wes didn't like the sound of sinking the pirates ships, part of him really liked the design. They were nothing like the ships on he and his partners home world. "Well, I don't got anything better, so I'll go along with it. But uh, we get to eat first, right?" Kress didn't have to say anything to his partner, he simply rolled his eyes and gave Wes a nod. That was the weasel's favorite part of the night thus far. Well that and being able to insult a menacing pirate without any consequences.
"I get to do it, Right?! You always get to do it. I wanna do it this time!" Kress let out a small chuckle. As much as a pain in the ass Wes could be, he always found him slightly adorable when he acted like a child. To a certain extent,it bugged the crap out of when he just outright whined. "Go ahead, you can order this time buddy." The weasel whistled, getting the waitresses attention. As she approached, the poor server couldn't even get in a word before Wes started his ridiculously long order. "The boy will have chilli-cheese dog and a coffee. That's it. Me, I'm gonna have a plate of cookies, a cheeseburger, a pickle. A dill pickle mind you. None of that kosher crap. a chicken leg and an apple. That'll be it for u- Oh right." Wes looked over at Kendra. "Order for yourself KenKen. I don't know what you like."

Kendra remained rather silent through the ordeal of 'planning', smiling a bit when Kress claimed she couldn't possibly eat as much as Wes. She was keen on the details but still a bit too shy to offer any of her own input really. It was okay, since the specifics being discussed didn't seem like it wouldn't be something impossible.
The one thing she liked the most right now was Kress's seating choice; in the back corner out of the way of everyone and everything. It seemed that he and she were actually a lot alike, especially if he chose this spot on purpose for his own sake more so than her sake. She wanted to make a comment or say something nice about this particular observation but she felt a sinking pit in her stomach at the thought. Maybe she should just mind her business for now.
Well, until it came time for her to order. The other two seemed to know exactly what they wanted, the weasel spitting out things pretty quick making the waitress scribble furiously on her pad, seemingly encountering no errors. And again with the nicknames. Kendra puffed her face a tad in response but she would have to deal with it for now - it wasn't nearly as bad as 'Kenny' after all. Looking over at the waitress and seeing her busy, furrowed look, Kendra immediately broke eye contact and looked down at her feet once she realized she had no idea what kinds of foods were in this particular tavern. Well, they ordered some sort of usual so maybe she should try the same?
Finally looking back up at the server, Kendra spoke. "Oh, umm... I would like... A frennetted jorgyle basket with a side of--" She was promptly cut off by the waitress giving her a curt look and sharply uttering 'we don't have that here'. Oh. Well, what did they have? She didn't have the fruition to ask, but she heard he Weasel mention apples; a food she was actually familiar with and enjoyed locally, and quite honestly her favorite delicacy she's encountered since arriving in this network of worlds. "Uhhhh... I'll just have two apples and some chocolate milk then!" She said, trying to give a smile. The server scribbled it down and made her way to the back. Kendra let out a heavy sigh: objective complete.
Looking over at her new friends she couldn't help but feel awkward as if something were amiss with her order. Well, it was food, so it didn't really matter right? Was there some sort of social construct in lines of eating? It wasn't that bad back where she was from, but there wasn't an amazing variety from her home. She's actually been spoiled since arriving under her new mentor, there's been so much new foods that have all been delicious for her to try, and she'd love to get her hands one some new stuff here too maybe but this was tough without someone to figure out the menu for her.

Kress couldn't help but raise an eyebrow after hearing Kendra order. The first thing she mentioned he had never even heard of, but then again he wasn't very well educated with different types of foods. His new ally decided on something rather simple, making him wonder if she'd even be full from that meal. He couldn't really say, the only other persons eating habits for him to compare hers to was Wes's. He was pretty certain Wes was way off the normal diet. Neither one of his friends seemed to have objections to his plan of taking out the ships, but that he still had to figure out exactly how they were going to do that. To be completely honest, Kress was too hungry to even think straight. It was driving him nuts ever since he had made the decision to land (or at least try to) on this small port-side town.
"Alright, alright. I Get the whole taking out their ships part, but won't that leave all those damn pirates on the docks... Y'know with us?" Kress hadn't really remembered just how many pirates there actually were. He didn't really get a good look at at them, well, other than the fat captain. The boy was too busy with trying to not get beat to a pulp by them to actually stand back and count them. But that's when it hit him. Wes. The weasel is always sitting safe on his shoulder, he could of easily got a good look at them. Maybe not enough to know exactly how many of them their were, but most likely enough to let Kress know how well equipped their enemies were. "Wes, how did the pirates look?" Wes raised and eyebrow, scowling a bit.
"Well, certainly not someone who you'd wanna date. Y'know, greasy hair, raggedy clothes... Oh lordy! a stench worse tha-"
"No, no. I mean like equipment wise, idiot."
"Yeesh. Rude. Eh, aside from Blubber Gut, nothing too impressive. Leather chestplates, dull cutlass's and no head gear. Nothing to really write home about, Why?"
Kress smiled, scribbling on his piece of paper rather rapidly. "Okay, similar plan. We destroy all ships except the captain's ship. We're gonna hijack that one. The captain is obviously better off than his lackeys, so we raid his ship for supplies and take the others head on." Wes frowned a bit. He prepared to give of his trademark backlashes, but was silenced by Kress placing his finger over the weasels mouth. "Not done yet." Kress looked over at Kendra, cracking an excited smile. "How do I put this.... How strong is your water magic exactly? Would you be able to manipulate the sea water? If you can't it's fi-" Kress's sentence was interrupted by the waitress slaming the trio's plates on the table, one by one. The poor waitress had to have a cart just to haul all of Wes's huge order. "Finally! Save that thought 'til after din-din Kress, I'm not listening."
Kress figured his partner had a point, there was no reason the planning couldn't continue after the meal. Besides, he hadn't had a good cup of coffee in a while and it was always interesting to try different worlds versions of coffee. This particular cup was surprisingly strong, causing Kress to flinch a bit. He had no problem with strong brews, but he wasn't expecting a taste so bold. Kress didn't really care too much anyhow, he was just starving and nervous. A rather odd combination. He wasn't really used to being around others who weren't Wes, let alone eating around other. Without a second thought, Kress grabbed his chil-dog and scarfed down half of it in a matter of seconds. What he had just done hadn't really settled in with him until a few seconds later, causing his face to grow a light red.
He felt pretty stupid, showing bad mannerisms in front of a new friend. He was hoping Kendra wasn't a person who was all about first impressions, seeing as how he hasn't exactly made the best one. So far he had got her involved with hostile pirates, subjected to ridicule by his weasel and now he was making a pig of himself in front of her. Wes was digging to his food without mannerisms, but that was to be expected. He was after all a animal. Trying to get his mind off of his presentation of himself, he decided to make some conversation. It seemed awkward to just sit there in silence eating. "So.... Your a chocolate milk drinker eh? I'm more of a banna milk drinker myself, but chocolate is a close second."

Much to her delight, the pair of weirdoes she met had gone back to planning their strategy for taking over the harbor, to which she paid a heavy amount of attention to without anything else to occupy her thoughts but had no particular courage to voice anything herself. It seemed like they had this under control such that any uneducated input from her would surely result in her getting down and minimally insulted again by the weasel. Not something she looked forward to.
However there would be a bit of a delightful surprise for the water witch, as Kress was curious as to the extent of the girl's water magic abilities. She lit up a bit, as for once she had a chance to shine amongst other individuals. This glorious moment would be brought to a grinding halt however as the food had finally arrived, everyone getting their respective dishes and the Weasel cut off the conversation in order to eat. Oh well.
The girl started with her chocolate milk, putting in a straw and giving the small rod of reed a big sip, smiling at the sensation of her favorite beverage pouring down her throat once again. She wasn't the quickest of eater unfortunately, taking a few bites of her first apple would be all it would take for there to be enough silence to which Kress broke in order to appreciate Kendra's drink choice. She wasn't sure what to feel, but there was definitely something on her mind due to the fact.
"...Banana milk?" She asked, trying to imagine how that would work. She was familiar with bananas but... it just seemed like such a strange combination. "That's a thing? Well... anyway, for chocolate milk, ever since I first left my home and got to a new world and had all sorts of new stuff to eat and drink... I had tried all sorts. The food in this network is so delicious! And chocolate milk... It's my absolute favorite thing thing!" She exclaimed, expressing her appreciation for the creamy and sweet drink. Though, that did inspire a question of her own.
"But, what's coffee like? I see people get it all the time, but my mentor doesn't let me have any." She said, It seemed to be such a common beverage but the girl was too obedient to even think about betraying his innocent request. He was never too uptight about it, it was a rather simple clause in place but she never gave it a second thought. Seeing her peer here drink the mysterious beverage however left her with an inkling of curiosity once more.

Kress hadn't really considered Kendra never hearing of banana milk. It was a pretty common drink on his world and normally favored by children. He didn't really feel like sharing the fact that it was favored by children though, it probably wouldn't help the drinks appeal much. Taking a sip of his coffee, Kress almost choked on it hearing his friend had never even tried it. Although he was probably being a bit irrational, in his mind he could only see Kendra's mentor as a cruel dictator. Who would ever not allow someone to enjoy the vast world of coffee? It was a bit off-putting. Things only got worse when he realised he'd have to describe coffee to the girl in words. How could he do this without seeming like a complete freak? His love for coffee would most likely get in the way of a rational descrition. But then again, staying silent in thought wasn't helping him either.
"Coffee is... Uh, geez this is tough. Well, for me, coffee is like liquidized relaxation. It has a flavor that can satisfy everyone's preference. It can be bold, bitter, sweet or even iced. I don't know, maybe I'm looking too deep into it." Kress's eyes wandered away from Kendra and focused on his weasel, who was making a pig out of himself. The fact that such a tiny weasel could eat so much always amazed Kress. It made him question why Wes was such a skinny weasel, it's not like the freaking animal even exercised that much. He barely even moved, he just sat on the boys shoulder most of the time. Kress didn't feel like he had really accurately described coffee and was about to continue on with it, but heard a loud blech come from Wes. He could only sigh and raise an eyebrow at his companion.
"What?! That's a sign that the tank is full pal. It's a good thing." Kress nodded in agreement. As rude as the action was, it was a little true. Wes was always a pain in the neck, but he is a lot more tolerable when his belly is full. Letting out a yawn, Wes crawled onto to Kress's lap. "Yeah, I have had a fun time, but wake me up when you two finish." With that, the weasel curled up and began to drift off to sleep. Aside from being able to channel elemental magic, Wes's most impressive ability was the way he could fall asleep in a matter of seconds. Kress was a bit relieved. It'd be much easier to talk to Kendra with Wes asleep. He hadn't really got to talk to anyone without Wes, but he figured it had to be a little easier than with the insulting little guy.
Reaching for his chilli-cheese dog, Kress saw his sketch paper for the plan. As he took a bite, he remembered that he never got an answer from Kendra regarding the limits of her powers. To be fair, it wasn't exactly her fault and could easily be blamed on Wes. Kress always found that just about everything could be blamed on Wes, but he was letting his mind wander. He really was enjoying having a conversation with Kendra, but couldn't stop himself from worrying about his plan. "Y'know.... I hate to be that guy and change the subject back to the plan, but.." Kress scratched the back of his head, letting out a nervous chuckle. "It'd really help to know just how good you're water magic is, Kendra. I- uh... I'm also kinda interested in it."
The boy was curious to see just how powerful Kendra's water could be. On Kress's home world, water was always seen as a lesser elemental power. Seeing Kendra be able to surf along her water and perform the stronger water spell earlier, Kress was pretty sure water wasn't a weak magic on her world. He was hoping that his assumptions about how strong her powers were true. With a battlefield full of so much water, it'd be a lot less hassle to take these pirates.

[Let's see how much we can get done on my dying laptop~]
Listening intently to the words Kress spoke, she was eager to learn about this mysterious coffee substance she was so familiar with but not actually acquainted with yet. Apparently it was just a beverage that suited itself to whatever the drinker wanted! That sounded great! So why did her mentor want her to stay away from the stuff? There must have been some side-effect that either Kress didn't know about or he forgot to mention since he was so focused on the good stuff. Little would the girl know, her mentor was aware that the caffeine would make her super energetic and feared how a hyper Kendra would act.
As for the exchange regarding the weasel, she wasn't sure exactly what to think. It was kind of funny that he belched so loudly and proudly without any sort of manners regarding the subject. She was tempted to laugh but she was a bit too shocked really to try. Though, it should be not a huge surprise at this point, if the little critter had been so lacking of consideration before why would he start now? Kendra let out a short breath in place of a face palm. Of course, he was as cute as a button as he went to sleep in Kress's lap. That weasel had some serious issues. She shook her head.
There would be a certain silence however, one that contained the lack of a rude rodent making Kendra feel awkward at every turn. She could get used to this. The boy decided to take this opportunity to discuss some more important matters. "Oh! Right! No don't worry about it!" She said, trying to assure the boy that a change in subject was really not a problem at all. She listened intently as he brought back up the more pressing issue at hand. She nodded as he finished his question.
"Okay! Well, basically I can conjure my own water or use natural sources around me, and basically bend that water to my will." She began. It's been a while since anyone has taken any interest in her magic talents, so this was going to be really fun. "I can make missiles, turn it to ice, submerge enemies, make waves, whatever! I even can make water into a healing substance!" She said, smiling. "Also, the more wet my opponents are, the more effective my magic is." She said. Looking over and putting her hand on her chin, she couldn't really think of any other general ideas.
"I've been told I have a lot of potential, so I'm guessing I'm pretty strong but I've never been out in many practical examples yet. What sort of specific things did you want to know?" She asked. This whole socializing thing seemed to be a lot easier without a certain presence interfering all the time. She felt more at ease honestly, like she could converse freely. She really glad to have met Kress anyway.

( Yeah, I know that feel. Just replace 'dying laptop' with shoddy power supply. Ugh -_-)
Having heard that Kendra was considered to have potential, it made Kress feel a bit relieved. The relief was followed by a quick moment of envy, but he tried not to dwell on that."Missiles?!" Kress crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair. "Okay, that's kinda badass. Wes can't do any of that." He couldn't help but feel a bit sour, he had considered Wes's magic pretty strong, but Kendra was telling him otherwise. It didn't matter though, his new friend could most likely help him with his plan. Well, their plan. It was odd for him to have another brain helping him out. He normally had to do all the planning himself while a certain weasel nitpicked at his every word. Having a cooperative friend like Kendra really helped balance out Wes's less cooperative ways. The boy found all of Kendra's powers facinating, but was stoked when she said she could manipulate water. That's exactly what he was hoping for.
"So, about your magic being more powerful when your opponents wet... If me and Wes can wet those pirates wet with our aqua bullets, would your magic be more powerful? Or do you have to wet them?" He knew this wasn't originally what he was planning on asking her, but his curiosity got the best of him. If he could in fact help power up Kendra's spells with his own, then the trio could make a great team. Even if his answer wasn't the he wanted, he could still rely on using his elements to compliment hers, like he did earlier. But, Kress was getting ahead of himself. He figured he should just focus on the pirate ships for now. Although he normally hated the idea of attacking someone or something, he really was quite anxious to attack and board the pirate ships. He'd never admit it in front Kendra, or any other adult for that matter, but he and Wes had always wanted to be pirates when they were kids. Kress obliviously grew up knowing that would never happen, but just being able to board one seemed like a good compromise
Of course to even get the privilege of boarding the ship, he'd have to make sure his idea involving Kendra would work. "Do you think you'd be able to manipulate the current's pal? If we could separate the ships, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to take them out. Y'know, divide and conquer." He did feel bad for asking so much help from his new friend, but Kress couldn't really see an easier way to take out the ships. To be honest, Kress still felt a bit guilty about this whole thing. He did make a new friend, but at the same time he put his new friend in a feud against pirates. He also didn't like that he didn't really have time to even learn more about his knew friend. Kress decided that he'd make it up to her after this whole pirate problem was solved. Though he wasn't exactly sure how.
Making a note of it on his paper, Kress looked down at Wes. As harsh as it sounded, he really wanted the little guy to stay asleep for a bit. At least until the plan was finished. With Wes out of the conversation, Kress seemed to actually be able to make progress. The boy still felt a bit nervous and unsure, but that was just due to his socially awkward habits. Kress took a sip of his coffee, trying to think of anything else he needed to know for the plan. It took him a few silent moments, but Kress finally snapped his fingers. He was a bit dumbfonded as to why he hadn't thought of asking earlier in his plan.
"What kind of equipment are you carrying Kendra?" Kress frantically reached into his pockets, pulling out a few small trinkets. He was always excited when he was able to show off his inventions, even when it was just the simple ones such as his smoke bombs, medibots or mini transceivers. Shedding a big grin, Kress looked back at Kendra. "These are all I got on me... Yeah, I know they're not the coolest, but all my other little gadget's are either in my workshop back home or in Wes's bag. I'm pretty sure neither of us want me to reach in his bag. It'd probably wake him up." He wasn't really sure if Kendra would even have gadgets. Most things about her seemed to be pretty forgein compared to what he was used. Though to Kress, that wasn't nessecarily a bad thing.

All good questions, none of which the water-based mage would have trouble answering. She was really into this, the kind of life she wanted to leave was something more exciting than studies and exercises but she never really had the audacity to go out and seek adventure. She was content with her quiet little life but that didn't eliminate the yearning for a little more every now and again. Plus Kendra hated people, and adventuring meant people usually... except for Kress. She didn't hate Kress, and the feeling would be quite the opposite actually.
Her first task was to settle a question about the wetness of her opponent. She giggled with a little enthusiasm. "Well, depends! If they're actually wet when you do that, then sure, it won't really matter." She began, though her inflection she wasn't finished. "If your magic doesn't actually carry water, then nope!" she said. She enjoyed being warmed up to this boy, she could freely express herself a bit. She didn't think there wasn't a reason to really distrust this guy.
Second task! Controlling the seas, huh? Seems pretty possible. "Well, something like that would take... quite a lot of concentration and effort. Like... that's a lot of water to move at once. And with multiple ships? I would have to do that multiple times... It's probably not that reliable." She said. As much as she wanted to impress him by saying she could do it, she had to think about it rather practically since they were dealing with a real dangerous situation. "Sorry..." She apologized, as if trying to make up for not being as cool as he might expect. The boy seemed really into her prowess, speaking about a possible letdown seemed really hard, but she toughed it out. At least Wes wasn't awake to insult her at the same time.
Finally, her equipment. This would be her most difficult question as it seemed the boy was utterly prepared for anything with a wide variety of devices that held multiple purposes, and even more in another backpack on the sleeping critter. It definitely put Kendra's answer the same, but if she was being honest so far she might as well continue this trend for the sake of consistency. Kendra shrugged her right shoulder down, revealing the head of her staff held by a strap on her back. "I just have my staff. I can cast magic with my hands, but every good magician has their catalyst." She said, trying to make this sound at least a little cool. "The staff magnifies my magic quite a bit, it's a perfect match for me." she said. There was quite the story behind finding her staff, but that would be a tale for another time.
"It looks like you have some really cool stuff though! What does it do?" She asked, trying to find out the nature of these little nick-knacks. She was actually enthralled though that someone could be so well-prepared for something like this, using far more than actual magic to accomplish his goal. Technology was always a really cool subject she's wanted to get into.
