A heavy rainstorm loomed over the quiet streets of Twilight Town, and many residents were riding the marketplace tram due to the force of the rainfall. Not one townsperson was the wiser to what was going on at the mysterious mansion outside the city walls. Amidst the groves of the mansion proper, a young man in an ominous black coat slowly emerged from a wispy black mass, stirring from the splatter of rain water upon his face.
"...Wha?" The boy lifted one hand up to deflect the falling rain, his brain slowly coming to terms with waking up after such a long time in the darkness. *Am I alive?* His eyes suddenly widened as he quickly sat up, realizing that he was looking up at actual rain clouds. He couldn't believe it, he was finally free from the realm of darkness! "Holy crap! I can't believe I actually escaped!" He started observing his surroundings, nothing around him seeming the least bit familiar "But where exactly did I escape to? This doesn't look anything like back home..."
Eventually, the cold rain caught up to him, and the boy let out a loud sneeze, shivering as he looked for somewhere, anywhere for shelter "Ugh...Never thought I would be happy to get sick...Alright Arin, better get out of the rain before you catch your death of cold..." When the boy, Arin, spotted the mansion close by, he walked briskly to the front door, which was surprisingly unlocked *Maybe I can gather my thoughts here and figure out just where I am and how I can get back home...* Pushing the door open, he made his way inside the dry, albeit slightly leaky shelter of the mansion.

As Arin entered the dark foyer of the mansion, the stench of mildew filled the stale air inside, causing Arin to cough a bit and cover his nose with the collar of his shirt *Eugh...Talk about old...Just how long ago was this place abandoned, anyway?* Braving the stench, and hazards of the moldy air, Arin took a deep breath before dropping his shirt collar and calling out "Hello?" Is anyone in here?"
-Drip...Drip...Drip- was the only response that came, the leaky roof allowing rain to seep in, and worsen the condition of this building as it soaked into the old, rotting wood. "I guess no one is here, might as well take a look around." Arin walked further into the building, finding his way into a room on the bottom floor with a long dining table "Hmm...Nothing special here, better keep looking around." The other doorways on the bottom floor were locked, leaving Arin the only option of going upstairs.
As he scaled the stairs, he could feel something strange about this place, as if he had been here before *Why does this place seem so familiar, I don't recall ever being here before...* He opened the door on the far right side of the upper floor and was completely awestruck by what he found. The room appeared to be a library of sorts, but the center of the floor was opened up to reveal a much more modernized basement, yet rusted in places "Wooooaaaah! What is that basement doing in an old place like this?" Shaking off his shock and awe, he looked around the room, noting that many of the books seemed to be coated in dust and worn from age.
But one book in particular seemed to catch his eye. It was better preserved than the others, and seemed to have been used within the past year or so. Curious, Arin opened the cover of the book, only to spot some of the annotations on the cover page, more specifically, the date "Wh-...This book must have a typo, that year shouldn't have happened until eleven years from now..." Determined to find an answer to this 'error', he scanned through other books, having to blow the dust away to look at the text. Eight years ago? Three years ago? This one would have been published on his birthday?! Something was wrong, was he...in the future?
"...No way...That's impossible..." Arin's eyes were wide with shock, his hands gripping his head tightly as he tried to come to terms with this new revelation *...I know it's been some time since I succumbed to darkness, but it couldn't have been that long ago, could it?* He lowered his arms, convinced something was amiss in this room, aside from the basement, which was weird in its own rite. This couldn't be real, someone had to be messing with him "...This...This has to be a joke, right? Just some sick prank from some of the townsfolk back home." Unnerved by the lack of response around him, Arin looked around, his voice raised to a panicked state "Alright, whoever you are, you've had your fun. Now enough with the games! Come out and tell me this room is fake, and that I'm really back home!" No answer "I'm serious dammit! This isn't funny anymore!"
Still no answer, leaving Arin practically speechless. Discouraged, he dropped to his hands and knees, staring at the floor and struggling to fight the sadness in his heart "...I'm really in a different time...My friends...My family...They're probably all older now, and think I'm dead..." He raised his left hand and punched the floor, a soft pulse of black aura booming lightly from the impact, much to Arin's dismay "...And all because I wasn't strong enough to prevent the darkness from taking hold of my heart..." He raised both hands up into the air and brought them both crashing down onto the floor, shouting as hard as he could, and venting out his emotions "DAMMIT!!!"
The resulting shockwave from the impact forced a bright flash of light to echo through the wave of darkness that pulsed out from his fists, both fading away and leaving a large dust cloud near his hands. A loud thud could be heard all the way from the foyer, as well as Arin's cry of profanity.

A shout and a loud, violent sound ignited orange orbs in a dark corner of the mansion. The dead silence of the mansion started to rot away as the sounds of chittering cicadas and crickets consumed the air from somewhere in the upper rooms. But just as they had started, the sounds ended. Almost like a yawn.
Locust adjusted the ragged coat covering him and walked out of the room he had been squatting in. While they were still attached to his 'body', his arms felts heavy and unresponsive, but this was typical for him as he had not yet awoken fully. Once a few minutes had passed, he would be able to move like normal... or what counted for normal for him. He thought someone was around the mansion, as a shout had roused him from slumber, but he could not see anyone so far. The looming gestalt lumbered down the halls slowly turning his head to look through open doors into what seemed like long abandoned rooms.
"Hello?" His voice sounded as if every insect that made his being spoke with him. "Who is here?"

"Hello?" Arin's head whipped towards the door, wide-eyed. There wasn't a single person in this entire building, why was he hearing voices? Was the stress of being 'resurrected', as he could best put it, finally making him go insane? "Who is here?" Apparently not. Getting up as quickly, but as quietly as he could, he looked around for something anything he could use to defend himself with *I'm in a library, why would I find anything here useful to- huh?*
In the back, near the edge of the wall where it was still possible to walk without falling into the hole leading to the computer room, Arin spotted a pair of criss-crossed katana blades nailed to a wooden plaque, still sheathed. They didn't look too special, one was gold and the other blue, and they looked like your everyday sword grips. But he just felt that reaching them was more important than sitting around for whatever was in the mansion to find him, defenseless. He snuck along the untouched areas of the floor, using the bookshelves as leverage to keep balance and shuffle to his goal.
Finally, they were in his reach. He took hold of the plaque, and lifted it off of its wall-peg, then jumped and spun around until he landed on the solid floor below, revealing a hidden door to Arin when he landed with a thud *No time to think about that, I have to get ready for whatever's coming!* Taking hold of the two sword handles, he drew them out of their sheaths. They looked pretty old, but still usable *Better be careful how rough I get, these things look like they might break with too much abuse...* He cautiously made his way back up the stairs, bracing himself for whatever might be outside of the room.

Locust finally managed to traipse into the library in time to watch the young man, probably not too much younger than himself before his incident, climb back up the stairs in a readied, defensive stance.
"Ah. So you are the one who is making that racket."
Locust's eyes reached their normal brightness, as the last of his sleepiness burned away. It was then he realized his hood was still down, and his 'face' was in full view for the kid to see. The gestalt shuffled back and took a defensive, but non-aggressive stance himself; just in case he was mistaken for something far more malicious. The movement would reveal that, under the old dark coat, his tall figure was composed of squirming insects.
"We... I mean, I rarely see people wander around here. Who are you?" He asked inching a little further into the room. His outer layer of insects writhed out of anxiousness. While he was prepared for anything, he hoped to avoid a fight.

Arin reached the top of the stairs, only to find that he was trapped in the room with what could only be described as a hominid built out of bugs. Seeing the strange figure coming closer, Arin flipped the blue handled sword in his left hand to a reverse hold, took one step forward with his left foot, and held the yellow handled sword directly in front of him, blade aimed at the stranger in front of him "I'd like to ask you the same thing, among other things. But first thing's first, not any closer until I'm sure I can trust you. I just 'came back' from a horrible ordeal, and trust isn't going to come very easily..."
Once he was sure that the stranger agreed to his terms, he loosened his stance, but was sure to keep the blades held firmly in hand until he was 100% positive the stranger wasn't going to harm him "Normally the person who barged in would introduce themselves first...But since this might be your home and I just walked right in without asking...I'm Arin. Now then, who -and what- are you?"

"Fair Enough." The gestalt took a step back again lowered his 'hands' out of the stance. He wasn't sure what kind of ordeal the man had faced, but not trusting mysterious, talking piles of bugs would be a bit of a no-brainer. He was more surprised that he hadn't been attacked yet.
"I wouldn't go so far as to say this is my home. We are simply borrowing it for a few nights until I get on my feet." He wasn't sure why he felt he needed to clear that up, but he did. Dishonesty would not win him any favors in the long run, Locust would try to reason.
"A 'who' and a 'what.' We can't say we didn't expect those." A sound escaped from him that could probably be counted as a sigh through the chittering and hissing sounds made by Locust's components. "I suppose I can be called Locust. It seems..." He searched the best word to use for a moment. "...fitting given my current appearance." The gestalt let the outermost layer of insects rustle to life, making a small noise before simmering down back into a smoother silhouette. "The 'what' is both easier and a tad bit harder to answer. I am a massive, sentient swarm of insects. I wasn't always, but we'd rather not delve into that. It's far too long a story, and we can't say we trust you any more than you trust us. Maybe less so, actually. We're not sure."
An awkward moment would pass before Locust would pipe up again. "Since I told my reason for being here, may I be so curious to ask why you are here as well?" His hand reached up and touched his chin, mimicking a look of curiosity.

Seeing Locust leave his fighting stance, Arin did the same, but not once did his grip lessen on the blades. Non-hostile or not, a sentient swarm of insects was still a threat he wasn't ready to deem harmless, not yet at least. "Well, Locust, it's raining out. And this is the closest place I could find where I could take shelter after 'waking up' I probably would be out trying to figure out just where the heck I am otherwise."
He took a quick glance down the stairs, leading to the basement and unrevealed computer room "I don't suppose you have any idea what's down there? It looks newer than the rest of this place, and might have something that could give me insight on my location. As overjoyed as I am to be free from that nightmarish world I...-" His mind started to wander back to his time in that dark realm, where those hellish creatures swallowed him up and engulfed his heart in darkness. He gripped the sword handles tighter, the blades shaking from the tension in his muscles stringing his grip. While he was straining not to freak out again, a black aura emanated from his body, disappearing as soon as he took a deep breath to calm himself.
"To sum it up...Let's just say I fell asleep in a very dark world, and I woke up here, over a decade later according to those books on the shelves, with absolutely no changes to my age...I just want to figure out what happened to my home, and if I'll ever find my way back there..." Clearing his throat, and shaking his head of his dark memories, he let out an exasperated sigh "Okay, enough about me...Have you ever checked out what's down in that door at the bottom of the stairs?"

It seems Locust wasn't the only one having problems with displacement.
"Ah right. Rain." It hadn't been raining when he had fallen asleep, but he honestly hadn't been thinking about the weather for a long time. Locust listened to Arin's question and glanced down at the stairway the young man had come up through when the gestalt had first entered the room. He really had no idea what was in most of the mansion. He had just crept upstairs to sleep and had planned to explore the place once he had rested up. He was about to explain this to Arin when the young man abruptly stopped talking.
The gestalt snapped his attention back to him. The boy began to emit a dark aura that seemed somewhat familiar to Locust. It felt as if he had encountered this or something similar once before, but he could not place it. Either way, such a violent-looking action forced a violent-looking reaction. Locust's for chittered and hissed and writhed as the combined survival instincts of his components overpowered the single will briefly. The humanoid shape shifted away briefly into something slightly less as Locust crouched and assumed a defensive position once again. In his mind, Locust could hear a tiny choir of voices whispering words to him. They suggested all manner of actions, but he did his best to ignore them.
As the aura diminished, Locust's control over himself increased. He dropped the stance and again stood up straight. He would have to keep a wary eye on this one if he was to stay around him. Even with Arin's vague explanation of his goals, there was little that ensured him of his legitimacy. The young man asked his question again and Locust gave a swift and slightly cold reply.
"No. I only came here to sleep originally."

"I see...Well, the place is pretty old, probably nothing useful down there anyway." Arin carefully walked around Locust into the foyer of the mansion, stopping just outside of the doorway and seemingly frozen in place. What happened in front of his eyes brought both shock and fear to his heart, the shadows around him were slowly rising from their surfaces, taking shape into tiny, yellow eyed creatures. These child-sized humanoids looked similar to the ones he fought in that dark realm, but more menacing in appearance given their more athletic figure, and slicked back antennae.
Just the sight of these creatures slowly approaching him had him paralyzed with fear *...Are they here to try and take me back to that place? Why can't I move!? Come on Arin! If you don't snap out of it, you're going to find yourself back in that world!* Just as one of the shadow creatures was about to strike, Arin broke out of his paralyzed state, reared back with his right leg and punted the nearest one as far away as he could, landing his foot hard on the floor and taking a defensive stance as more advanced on the door "We have company!"

Locust was inclined to remain in the room. Maybe he would investigate the area Arin mentioned. Whether it was a trap or not, he was sure he could endure whatever was down there. This body was much sturdier than his original human one. But his contemplation of what he would be doing next was again abruptly cut short by a shout from Arin. He sounded panicked. The gestalt quickly stuck his 'head' out the door to see what he was screaming about exactly. If he still had blood, it would have started running cold. These were the dark creatures he had encountered at the death of his world. The memories, though fading, boiled to the surface. While he couldn't remember the faces of his fellows as the fell around him, he could remember all too clearly the monsters responsible. Visions of these heartless monsters mowing down innocent people and consuming them would bring about rage in anyone, but Locust seemed beyond it. His hatred for them burned cold.
The hissing of his insect components grew louder as he descended upon a creature of the darkness plaguing his acquaintance with a strong left overhand punch down onto the crown the little monster's head. Along with the impact, tens of his tiny insects would join in the attack in their own way by biting and stinging the target while so close.
"Demons. I'll kill every last one of you."
Even with the choir of insects chirping in his voice, the cold viciousness held within those words directed at the Heartless was clear. Locust's body writhed with agitation and excitement. The gestalt was ready for a fight, both body and soul.

Arin spotted the rage in Locust's tone, and who it was aimed at. Obviously Locust went through just as hard a time as he had, if not worse, but that was for another discussion. Right now, there were dark creatures after them, and he was going to do everything in his power to dispose of them, just as Locust was. There were only a few of the Neoshadows stalking on the upper floor, nothing that looked like Locust couldn't handle on his own, until a ring of dark fire was slowly spinning around Locust and gaining momentum.
Without thinking, Arin rushed forward and got as close as he could in front of Locust, extending his arms to his sides as far as they could go "Guard!" A large sphere of light surrounded both Arin and Locust just in time to avoid the ring of dark fire from harming either of them. While the barrier stayed active, Arin scanned the area that the attack could have originated, spotting a sword stabbed into the floor not too far from the main entrance "We got something attacking us from a distance. Think you can handle these smaller ones up here, while I go after whatever's near the front door?"

The fire could have been a problem, but Arin's timely protection saved the gestalt both some time and energy. Things he would use to the Darkness's detriment. Locust did not even bother giving a verbal response. Well, other than an inhuman screech before exploding into a dark, heavy cloud of angry insects. Any and all Neoshadows that were foolish enough to attempt an attack were consumed by pummeled with the stinging and biting components that made up the cloud that was Locust.
Though slow moving, the cloud moved in a way that would provide the greatest cover for Arin to make his way towards the ranged enemy combatants. The chaos in the cloud hummed loudly with a choir of hissing, buzzing, and the occasional angrily shouted insult hurled at the creatures by the consciousness that was Locust.

Arin didn't need any response other than that from Locust, grabbing hold of the railing and leaping over the edge "I'll take that as a yes!" He had to pause for a while upon landing on the lower level floor, but once he was recovered, he charged at the slowly materializing creature, and swung just as the creature's defenses were down. Barely a scratch was on the humanoid monster's obsidian body, leaving a nervous Arin only enough time to block its massive sword with both of his own.
The antiques did very little good to stop the attack, however. The blades were shattered, and Arin was sent rolling toward the back of the foyer, between the stairs. As Arin rose to his feet, he saw the dark, winged creature hovering over him, and Arin only had enough time to leap back out of the sword's reach and extend his hand to cast his only offensive spell"Fire!" Much to his surprise, the typical red fireball didn't burst forth. In its place was a wave of black and purple flame barely large enough to engulf the entire creature.
But the spell did little good. Even though it seemed the spell was still doing its job in dealing some burn damage, casting it left a burning sensation in his chest, and he couldn't hold his stance. With no weapons to protect him, he was defenseless against the monster targeting him as its next kill, taking steps backwards to keep his distance, while clutching his black undershirt.
"Don't run from the darkness!"
Arin froze in place in mid-step. Terrific, he really was hearing things now. "Darkness sleeps within you, trying to reclaim what it once lost. I can help you fight, but first you must reawaken that sleeping power within your heart. Defend yourself!" As the creature brought its sword down again, Arin lifted his left arm in a futile attempt to block, eyes closed and bracing for the inevitable. At least, that's what he thought.
A loud, echoing clang reverberated through the room, and Arin's whole body flinched from the sound as he felt some force pushing against his arm. When he opened his eyes to see what was happening, he was shocked. The winged creature's weapon never connected with his body, and was being held back by a bluish white aura made of light around his arm. As he and the creature struggled for dominance, Arin looked down at his right hand, and saw a mirror image of what was on his left arm, but the shadow from his body was rippling on the floor, as if it was alive. The light began to travel up his arms, and darkness shifted on the ground, circling around his body like a whirlpool, which was causing Arin to panic slightly.
"Now, I shall help you unlock your true potential."
As more and more of Arin's body began to grow brighter from the consuming light, a swirling vortex of darkness began to rise higher and higher around Arin's body "Your heart is in a partially unlocked state, and darkness seeps in at every opportunity. If left unattended, this darkness could once again have consumed you." The pillar grew to reach Arin's neck line, slowly leaving all of the light emanating from his body to shine directly upward in a bright beam of light that lit up the dark foyer of the mansion "I have given you a stronger light, that will tame this darkness. Use this gift to control the darkness that once plagued you, and unlock the true power sleeping in your heart."
As the darkness slowly closed shut over Arin's head, swallowing up the light, it burst out in a great explosion that scattered the darkness and light, knocking The creature backwards far enough for the two scattered auras to reform around the broken swords, and completely transfigure them into new weapons that seemed eerily at home in his hands. He had just enough time to inspect the weapons while the creature was off balance.
The entire blade was reforged and redesigned for both swords, but the sword in his left hand, clearly his dark half manifested, sported blue, pulsating runes on the side of the blade to match its new draconic red and blue design. In Arin's right hand, his light manifested blade was more subtle in design: Golden with black fluctuating patterns adorning the grip, and having more of a guard than its darker counterpart, which had the grip mold into the blade with no guard for his hand whatsoever. A bluish white aura and purplish black aura could be seen emanating from the swords in their entirety, from butt of the grip to tip of the blade.
"I have awakened the power sleeping within you, use it to unleash chaos to those who call darkness their home."
Without even hesitating, Arin rushed forward at the winged incarnation of darkness and made for a leaping, diagonal slash upward with his right hand. The blade dealt a great deal of damage alone, but the aura surrounding the sword seemed to be adding to the force of the strike. "Don't waste your momentum, deal the finishing blow!" Following the stranger's advice, Arin spun with the momentum of his attack, and swung a backhand blow with his felt arm. The sword was still in an upside-down grip in his hand, leading the backhand strike to stab the blade's entirety into the flying shadow creature's head. With a glowing slash mark imbedded in the chest of its still burning body, the stab to its head was all that was needed to finish off the creature for good.
Unfortunately, this only lead to more following in its place. Now there were two of those shadow swordsmen, and what looked like a lamp bulb with four oddly shaped wings hovered between them, and sporting a weird heart emblem on its chest "Alright then...bring it on!"
Up on the higher floor, a pair of orb-like creatures began to manifest in midair from the other side of the mansion, one of which rushing forward with jaws chomping frantically at Locust while his insects were busy devouring the remains of the smaller shadow creatures before vanishing into a shadowy mist. The other shrunk down into a tiny ball of shadows and sped forth at Locust with a wide, curving trajectory.

Locust had all but lost track of Arin as his focus was onto the little creatures around and within his cloud. The monsters could not die fast enough for him. Before he could notice them, Larger, floating creatures of darkness appeared and began their assault. The first one collided savagely into the cloud trying to bite and eat him and his insect components. The strange part was it hurt. It actually hurt him. It wasn't just the slight twinges when the shadows earlier tried to tackle him, the feeling was sharp and, more concerning, lasting much longer. The cloud that was Locust shuddered in pain before shrinking down to make up for the loss of insects, but it didn't matter much as the small ball of shadows smacked into the cloud, causing just enough damage to jar Locust's consciousness back into his regular form.
His frame seemed a little leaner than before. The corpses of dead insects fell from his body as Locust shook the attacks from of his mind. The cold rage subsided enough to regain his bearings and remember his ally in this fight.
"Arin!" He leaped off of the upper floor and rushed to his companion's flank. "How many of these damnable creatures are there?" He sounded more worried about survival than angry about the attackers.

"You're asking me?!" Shouted Arin, who was busy slashing at one of the dark swordsmen with his light sword while parrying the other with his dark blade. He didn't even have the time or space to dodge the ball of light that flew at him and sent him rolling a few feet before righting himself. He had just enough time to register that the number of monsters had practically doubled by the time he was ready to fight again, and he could feel his heart sink. "Oh come on! Where do you keep coming from?!" He had just enough time to bring up his shield, rebounding the projectiles to deal damage to the first of now two winged jar looking monsters, but not nearly enough to look like he was making any progress *At this rate, we're going to be too outnumbered to survive. We have to get out of here, but I can't find any available exits...Is this really the end?*
"It doesn't have to end here. You possess a means of escape, but you must use the darkness within you to open the gateway." While his light barrier was still holding strong, most of Arin's body started to become engulfed in a black mass within the light sphere, leaving only his head untouched. "What's happening to me?!"
"Both darkness and light are coming together to give you a protective layer, to shield your heart from the ambient darkness that the gateway will possess"
When Arin's shield finally gave way, the red and black clothing he once had was seemingly replaced by a new layer of clothes. The most notable of his new attire was the long, hooded cloak that covered his entire body save for his boots. His hands even had new gloves on, full fingered black ones to go with the new black pants. Oddly enough, his pants and boots seemed to be fashioned similar to his his red pants and black boots were, before the new look.
"Go to your ally, extend your palm, and summon forth your darkness"
Arin ran up the stairs as fast as he could, noticing his blades were losing the aura surrounding them, but the blades remained, which he was thankful for. At least he still had something to defend himself with. He finally made it in time to block another charging attack from the dark orb, in all of his newly clothed glory. Leaping up, he spun in a clockwise direction, slicing with both blades before delivering a spinning kick with his left foot to knock the orb back. Hurrying over to Locust, he saw how many of his insects were lying dead near him, and knew they couldn't fight their way out "We can't stay here, they just keep coming. I have a way out...But you aren't going to like it..."
He extended his left hand in front of them, trying to summon up the darkness that the voice kept telling him about *Okay, how do I summon something I've never trained to use...* His fingers shook from the strain of concentration, before relaxing again "By letting the darkness do all the work, without letting it control you. Tap into the parts of the heart that feel opposite to the light you have trained to wield, but keep a leash on how much you use. Your destination will be one better protected from the darkness, there, you will learn how to use your newfound powers without any aid."
Arin took a deep breath, trying to feel for the darkest parts of his heart, where this new, unawakened power resided. Nothing...Nothing...THERE! *Here goes nothing...* And almost without even trying, a large archway of darkness opened up in front of Locust and Arin. "I don't know how, but we can use this doorway to find a world more protected by light. We shouldn't have to deal with as many enemies on the other side."

Wonderful. Locust thought as he once again busied himself with the large creatures. He waited for one to try another strike against him before countering it with a hard right cross, sending the monster reeling backwards through the air. It wasn't dead, but it gave Locust a bit of breathing room. Using that time, Locust scanned their battlefield. More and more of the shadows came to life. Their numbers were reaching levels twice of what was there just moments before.
The dark orb from before made a second pass at the gestalt, but he was ready and braced for the impact. It was unneeded, however, as Arin intercepted the thing with a swilling slash and a kick. The orb would spiral out of control and hit the ground a fair distance away. The boy looked much different, but really only in the wardrobe department. It wasn't a trick most people can do, but now wasn't really the time to ask that kind of question.
"We can't stay here, they just keep coming. I have a way out...But you aren't going to like it..."
Again. Wonderful. Locust thought once more. "Unless it has a greater chance of killing us here, we doubt we'll hate it that much." He grumbled as he literally launched hit fist at the still floating Heartless. The hit impacted hard enough for the creature to explode into a dark mist briefly before dissolving to nothingness. He turned his attention back to Arin. The man had managed to open some kind of dark portal. It seemed somehow familiar to him in some way. A lot things lately seemed to do that to him. He wondered if it had anything to do with his world's death and these shadowy monsters. Either way, it was not the time to review the past.
He darted into the portal with his current ally. The insects that made up his body, chittered and hissed in protest of the action, their instincts wanting to flee from all dark presences at this point, but Locust was in control and Locust said to move.

Covering his head with the hood of his new coat, Arin dove into the portal just as a light sphere came flying his way "Time to get out of here!" The portal closed behind him, and the creatures were left to stir with little activity, vanishing into the dark realm that spawned them.
This new darkness seemed different than the world he was in before, it was much less infested by creatures. In fact, he couldn't find a single one in the corridor that he forged. But as he and Locust walked through the corridor, Arin still had his doubts about this new form of transit *Alright, you disembodied voice, this better not be a trick.* "I assure you, this is no 'trick'. In this destination I have chosen, you must learn to communicate with me of your own free will, then I will train you to better wield your weapons and control the darkness so it will not consume you. Once you have learned to wield your powers of your own accord, I will no longer assist you, you must seek me out on your own to complete your training."
With those words echoing in his mind, Arin knew what he had to do now. He had to find a way to figure out just what was helping him, but for now, he would just have to settle for accepting the mysterious voice's help, and learn about the new power that's awakened within him. He was too lost in thought to even realize that his swords have lost their blades, and were mere handles in his grasp now.
