About the Character
Character Personality: Shadow is an animal, so like most animals, he runs mostly on instinct. However, he is sentient enough to look out for more than just himself. If one is fortunate enough to become 'part of the pack', he will look out for their well being, though he doesn't tolerate anyone that Jason doesn't trust. Shadow isn't able to communicate with anyone other than Jason, this is mostly due to their shared mental and spiritual link. If you want any indication to what Shadow is thinking, you have to study his facial expressions, and try to translate those expressions into messages.
Character Appearance (Please include such things as height, hair color, eye color, body type, clothing, weight, etc. You need to actually write a description. You may include a picture for reference. Must be at least 5 sentences): link Shadow is a fairly large, fox-like creature. He is 3.5 feet high from his shoulders (4.5 feet counting his ears), and is at least 6.5 feet long from nose to tail. Due to his size being mostly muscle with some fat, his weight comes to 110 pounds. His fur is mostly black, with some white fur on his underbelly, inside of his ears, and bottom of his tail, some of this white fur streaks up to his eyes in a spike. On top of his black fur are glowing blue markings on his back, tail, and shoulders, almost resembling runes. And a glowing blue aura flows back from his neck like a mane, matching the color and brightness of the glowing runes on his fur. He has a pair of deep sapphire eyes, surrounded by a pale blue sclera.
Battle Statistics
Character Position (Hero/Neutral/Villain): Neutral
Character Abilities (Maximum of 15 abilities allowed - please write your abilities in list form, starting with name & then description):
Light Powers: Able to alter the density of the light around his body, to create bursts of light for strategic purposes, cloak himself in a light veil that renders himself temporarily invisible, or even transport himself distances as far as half a mile away in the blink of an eye.
Guard: A semi transparent shield made of pure, solidified light waves spanning 3 feet wide, and 5 feet long/high in a fat oval shape. It can take most melee and small arms attacks (guns, arrows, etc), as well as some weak special attacks. But since it is not a naturally made shield, it weakens and eventually breaks after so many attacks, and can't be manifested as strongly as before so soon after, taking less and less strikes the more he uses it after breaking (I'll be reasonable, don't worry). It would need time to recover before it can be used to its fullest again, at least 2 posts without use before it's at full strength again. 1 post cool down, additional post added to cool down for each regeneration before shield is at full strength.
Flash: A diversionary ability meant for temporarily blinding enemies with a bright flash of light, disorienting them long enough to either disarm and defeat, or buy time to run away. The effect of the spell works better the closer the opponent is, and isn't as useful if against someone that has eye protection. Especially useful against large numbers...so long as they aren't prepared. The only indication of this ability taking effect is a slight glow in Shadow's eyes.
Burst: A mid-ranged strike that takes the form of a pulse bursting out from his body, often times sending his targets flying a few meters away and onto their backsides. 1 post cool down.
Vanish: Shadow can bend the light around his body, making himself seemingly invisible to the untrained eye. Outside influences, such as dust clouds or scent trails can still help someone spot Shadow.
Dash: Forcing his entire body to move from one location at the speed of light, he can transport himself anywhere within a half mile radius of his starting point. This power exerts a lot of energy and mental strain on Shadow, and is most times than not used either as a quick escape, or a quick way to get the jump on an unsuspecting opponent. Requires at least 5 posts before he can do this again.
Dark Powers: Shadow can manipulate the unseen dark matter around his body, forming an assortment of different abilities meant for offensive maneuvers. He can create near indestructible blades out of thin air, induce full body matter displacement within a close proximity, and even form the matter into a protective layer to shield his body from harm.
Claws: Like the name implies, Shadow can form dense, sharp claws on his paws, stretching 4 inches from each digit. However, the claws on his back paws are only 2 inches in length. No cool down, actively triggered.
Shadow-Claw Armor: a full body armor suit made from heavily dense, but highly flexible shadow matter. His main weapon of choice (if active) are the shadow claws on his paws. The shadows form to his body like a veil. This armor is mostly as a means to intimidate, or frighten his opponent into running or surrendering, but it has some combat potential. This armor is fairly durable, but some amount of fatigue takes effect after the armor is dispelled. The amount of fatigue depends on the duration of time the armor is active, and how much he exerts himself in battle. It is possible to cut or break part of the armor, but if you give him time to recover, he can reform the armor around himself (which also adds to the fatigue after use). However, the armor can be just as durable as when it was first cast. Cool down of up to 3 posts before reusable.
Rift Jump: Shadow can phase his entire body in and out of space to transport short distances consecutively. He can do this a total of 5 times before he needs to rest, good for tactical fast-paced strikes. At least 4 post cool down after the 5th jump.
Doppleganger: This ability is most effective in the dark, and is an illusion to make his opponents believe he is standing, walking, or sitting in a different place than he is. This gives him time to circle around his target and take them by surprise. However, it's only useful against small groups of 3 or less. Too many and he would be outnumbered after they realized what was going on. It can also be a means for escape, to throw people off Shadow's trail if he's on the verge of defeat and can't use his light power's 'Dash' ability (but only works if he can temporarily lose them so he can manifest the doppelgänger). One hit durability, and 1 post cool down.
Wave: Shadow can project a slicing waves of dark energy from his body, powerful and sharp enough to slice through steel if enough wave attacks are applied. 3 waves before needing a 2 post cool down. Claws and armor cannot be active for this ability to be used.
Character Weapons (Maximum of 5 weapons allowed – members must have 100 posts before their characters may wield a keyblade): Claws, fangs, and light/dark attacks
Character Racial Ability (Optional - Your character may have ONE passive ability that seems to have an abnormal affect due to being a particular race. Merfolk can breathe underwater, Lava creatures are immune to fire, that sort of thing): Umbras are beasts with a natural control over both light and darkness, and therefore have a natural resistance to any outside influences involving either element.
Character Strengths (1 required): Aggressively protective of anyone in his 'pack'
Character Weaknesses (1 required): No opposable thumbs.
Character History:
Shadow is an Umbra, a local animal in the world of Earthsea, one such rarely seen creature who's dawn/dusk hunting habits and natural connection with the light and darkness led residents of the world to -in primitive times- believe them to be powerful god-like creatures, who commanded the sun to rise and fall, bringing day and night to the world. While that was untrue, it wasn't until the art of science was discovered that this myth was disproven, but studies of Umbras were scarce due to their cleverness and skills at evading capture. Shadow was recently matured, and had set out on his own, leaving his pack of siblings to fend for himself.
On one particular day, Shadow was napping in his den, unaware that a clueless human child was sneaking into his home. Hearing a noise near him, he was startled awake, and snapped his teeth at the boy. He punctured the child's curious hand, and the boy ran away, frightened. It wasn't for another three days that he once again encountered this boy. But this time around, they could understand one another.
How curious. He had bitten humans in self defense before, but he had never been able to communicate with one such bite victim mentally before. It was as if the boy had changed somehow from the bite on his hand, if the glowing markings on his left arm and bandaged hand weren't enough of a sign. The boy introduced himself ad Jason, and elected to give Shadow the name that he now has.
Jason explained what had happened to him in his village, fearing that whatever's happened to him might bring harm to his parents, or anyone around him. Understanding the boy's situation completely, he agreed to help Jason learn to control his newfound powers. Over the course of his training, the two got to know each other, and developed a close, almost brotherly bond with one another, one that was stronger than the mental/spiritual link than the bite had created for them.
After a successful training session with Jason, the boy asked if Shadow could come back with him to his village outside of the forest so that the search for him when he needed more training would be easier on both parties. Reluctant at first, Shadow finally agreed to follow Jason out of the forest, and into the human populated village. The pair were met with highly shocked looks, and they were very justified reactions. It wasn't natural to see an Umbra traveling outside of its den anytime other than the hours of dawn and dusk, when it set out to go hunting.
Jason's parents were reluctant to allow a wild creature to live with them, but after Jason proved that he could communicate with Shadow, and make sure nothing bad would go wrong, they agreed to give him a trial period, living within the village, and coming to stay inside of the house when the weather got too rough. Eventually, he was allowed to stay inside on a more permanent basis.
Shadow traveled with Jason practically everywhere while he grew up, helping him master his new abilities over light and darkness, and even teach him ways to defend himself against smaller heartless and nobodies. But as Jason matured physically, so too did his mind, and it wasn't long before the laws of nature began to affect Jason's choices and actions. Understanding this, Shadow backed away little by little, giving Jason more time to spend with his new love interest, but insisting that he at least put some time in to train. He made sure Jason knew he understood what was going on, and volunteered to stick close to the house with his parents, or patrol out around the border of the village, watching for anything dangerous.
He was there when Jason and Reiko were searching for some strange armor, and even stuck by their sides when the other warriors donning similar armors gathered together with Reiko. He was also beside Jason as he searched for Reiko when she and the other dragoon warriors went missing. When Jason made the decision to travel to other worlds, Shadow knew he would need some moral and combat support for any of the dangers out there. His sparring with the other dragoons was helpful, but it wasn't real fight to the death combat, where the one who lasts longest gets to live.
Shadow, determined to keep his 'pack' safe, refused to let Jason go on this journey without him following along. Jason agreed to these terms, and they set out to other worlds, to find out the truth about the dragoon legacy. But Shadow's concern was on Jason. Should the truth be a dark one, could his surrogate brother handle such a harsh reality?
