Character Name: Rhythm Chase - formerly known as Kyra Irvine, Sovereign of Praesidium
Character Age: 18
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Female
About the Character
Character Personality: Rhythm is rather an unpredictable person to be around, chiefly because she is schizophrenic, and has two separate personalities that can kick in without warning. She is well aware of this fact, and sometimes when talking in one personality will refer to the other side of her as 'the other me'. Much to the puzzlement of most, she will sometimes look over her shoulder and speak quietly, addressing her other personality even though they aren't really there. These occurrences are usually only brief, and tend to happen more often when she's scared, upset or otherwise stressed out. Even so, they can tend to befuddle or annoy those around her... Which can upset her a little, as she doesn't like to be in others' 'bad books', as it were; if she thinks someone's annoyed or upset with her she'll often become frantic, desperately trying to do all sorts of things to try and get them to think more positively of her again. Unfortunately, this habit can also prove to be somewhat annoying.
In her first personality, and the one that seems to be her 'primary' one, Rhythm is a lively and generally cheerful young lady, with a lot of energy in her to keep her going. She's reasonably talkative, though usually not so much that others would consider her to be annoying, and is quite friendly; overall, she is a thoroughly likeable person, and one that, if you look beyond her quirks, could be a great friend. Her second personality, however, can be a little more difficult to put up with; in this instance, she is significantly more talkative and excitable, frequently breaking out into laughter for a few seconds at a time. She's also far more likely to take risks when this personality takes over her, and is more likely to make rash decisions without thinking things through.
A couple of things stay relatively the same, regardless of what personality is in control of her mind; if she's in the more eccentric mindset, either of the two following factors can bring her back to 'normal'; those factors are her strong attachment to her ant allies (see her Summons section for more), and her sensitivity to a certain physical anomaly she is affected by. In the case of the former of those two points, she is strongly attached to each and every member of the insect swarm she lives amongst, treating them not just as animals, but as good friends or even family; despite the fact that the insects each look more or less identical, it seems as though Rhythm can unfailing identify each and every one of them and call them by name. In the case of her sensitivity in regards to her physical abnormality - the abnormality in question is polydactyl, and as such she has an extra, fully-functional 'pinkie' finger on both her hands - she is extremely easily made upset by negative remarks about it, and may even cry if it's brought up too much.
Finally, it's worth mentioning one last thing about her, something that she keeps hidden as best she can... That something is her inner turmoil over the memories she lost. A lot of the time when she's alone, she'll become incredibly frustrated about how much of her life she cannot remember, and will try to think and realise who exactly she used to be, what her name once was, etc. Tragically, she has not had any luck figuring this out, which has resulted in her inner frustrations slowly deepening.
Character Appearance: Rhythm is a quite attractive young woman, with both a pretty face and a lithe, appealing figure. She stands at approximately 5'8'' high, with Caucasian skin that is quite a lot paler than usual, thanks to the fact that she doesn't venture outside all that much; her skin is also blemished by small bruises or scratches a lot of the time, thanks to the place she currently occupies and the company she keeps, but she doesn't much mind. In fact, she doesn't even seem to notice any of these tiny wounds. She has medium-length hair that is dark brown in colour, so dark that it might even look black at first glance, which is streaked by much lighter brown. Her hair is always a little untidy in its look, and sometimes may contain tiny particles of rock-dust. Her eyes are hazel in colour.
When it comes to her clothing, she prefers to wear a well-worn denim jacket on top of a dark reddish-pink t-shirt, with jeans tied with a brown leather belt and simple grey sneakers. She also wears leather gloves, a scarf around her neck and, oddly enough, aviator-style goggles; she usually wears the lattermost item atop her head or hanging around her neck, and thus rarely pulls them down over her eyes. When using the ability Regina autem Turba, Rhythm gains a pair of insect-like wings that sprout from her shoulders; these wings are transparent, luminous and about the same colour as her t-shirt, if a little lighter. Also, the wings do not appear to be solid, and almost look holographic; in fact, they aren't solid at all, but still function as though they really are 'there'. When using the aforementioned ability, her eyes also change, becoming a bright luminous green, and her hands and feet will take on the same glow as her wings.
Battle Statistics
Character Position (Hero/Neutral/Villain): Neutral
Character Abilities:
Regina autem Turba: Rhythm sprouts wings from her back and gains the ability to fly for eight posts, also boosting the power of her magic-based abilities slightly for the same length of time. Six post cool-down.
Omnes Exhibuit: She has the ability to climb on and cling to walls and ceilings without falling (of course, if she is attacked or otherwise knocked off the wall she will fall from it; in this case, she will be unable to use this ability again for two posts). She cannot use weapons or use any abilities that require the use of her hands whilst on a wall or ceiling. Passive.
Superius Olfactum: Rhythm has an extremely keen sense of smell; for instance, she is able to smell something as small as a teaspoon of honey or a few drops of blood from up to 250 yards away. Passive.
Infodio Passivus: Rhythm tunnels underground at a rapid pace, either to escape an opponent or to quickly get from one location to another. She can tunnel for two posts at a time, and must take a cool-down of three posts once back on the surface.
Infodio Impetum: A two-turn ability; on the first post she jumps up and dives down into the ground, and on the next post will spring up at the opponent to attack; however, this ability isn't very accurate in landing its hits, and she'll sometimes end up coming back up about two feet to the side of her intended target. If she does surface to the side of her intended target, small rocks and debris from her return to the surface will fly out and do minor damage to those within approximately two feet of her. Four post cool-down.
Penna Clamor: Can only be used when Regina autem Turba is in effect. Vibrating her wings at an incredibly fast rate, Rhythm produces an extremely loud noise that causes damage to those within twenty feet of her. Blocking one's ears can prevent you from taking damage from the attack. Two post cool-down.
Mysticus Jactus: Rhythm fires a long, thin bolt of green-blue energy from her hands at an opponent to deal damage. When the attack lands, a small explosion of that same energy is caused, dealing minor damage to those within three feet of the one who was originally hit. Three post cool-down.
Magus Solidus Passivus: Rhythm summons green-blue energy to her hands; the energy will then materialise itself into a spherical green crystal mass just a little bigger than a golf ball. The crystal itself does nothing other than glow when touched and feel subtly warm against bare skin. Just a one post cool-down for this one.
Magus Solidus Impetum: She summons green-blue energy to her hands once again, albeit more and brighter than with the ability described above, charging this energy for one post before firing it at a single opponent in the next; when fired, the energy immediately takes the form of several sharp crystalline shards to damage the opponent on impact. Four post cool-down.
Insolitus Lumen: Rhythm emits a bright green-blue glow from her hands in order to light up a dark area for up to five posts. Four post cool-down.
Aura Calor: Rhythm's whole body takes on a subtle green-blue glow, which causes the air in a radius of about ten feet of her to be bathed in a pleasant warmth for up to three posts. This is only used to warm herself and nearby allies, or the eggs of her insect 'family', when the climate is cold. Two post cool-down.
Lumen Praesidia: She produces a wall of green-blue light around an ally to shield them from damage for one post. Two post cool-down; cannot be used on herself.
Character Weapons:
The Formic Fangs: A pair of scimitar-like blades, each one made from the fangs of one of her deceased insect brethren. The hilts of both fang-blades are made of specially-adapted pieces of bone, harvested from the bodies of her formic family's prey.
The Blade of Praesidium: A long-sword, crafted from materials found exclusively on the world with which this weapon shares its name; this weapon, unbeknownst to Rhythm, is a legendary sword in what was once her kingdom, passed down through the royal family through the generations and the focus of many of Praesidium's legends and lore. The hilt is carved from a rose-red marble-like mineral, adorned with two green gemstones similar to those she produces when using her Magus Solidus Passivus ability, and the sword's long blade is a brilliant white in colour, appearing iridescently silver under certain angles of light. The blade itself is strong, and supremely sharp on its edges, but is also reasonably lightweight for its size. Finally, the hilt of the sword is also adorned with the insignia of the Praesidium royal family; said insignia is a black winged serpent, its tail forming a circle around is and a pair of turquoise wings behind it.
Character Summons:
Skitter: Somewhat resembles a Carpenter Ant in appearance, but its size is much greater; Skitter is about the size of your average Thoroughbred Horse, with a thick, pale-brown armour-like exoskeleton covering almost all of his body, except for the underside of his abdomen and some space on his neck. His jaws and the foremost pair of his six legs are large and the armour on them notably thick and strong. The antennae are long and touch-sensitive near the ends, and much of the rest of his head is taken up by huge, multi-faceted crimson eyes. He has wings, usually resting close along his back, which have a slight greenish glow along their edges. Can be summoned for up to six posts at a time, and once gone cannot be summoned for at least another five.
Abilities:
Tunneler: As a 'Worker' of his species, Skitter is extremely good at tunnelling/digging. As such, he can tunnel through most materials, such as wood, earth and rock with little effort; note, however, that the tougher the substance, the longer it'll take him to burrow through it. However, he cannot tunnel through particularly strong metals. Passive.
Viscous Beam: Skitter forcefully regurgitates a beam of a thick, gelatinous substance at an opponent to deal damage and slightly slow them down. If the attack misses and hits the ground, it will coat a patch of the floor about six feet in diameter in a thin layer of slime; this causes that patch of ground to become extremely slippery. Can be avoided by dodging to the side. Two post cool-down.
Campion: Very similar to Skitter in appearance, with a few key differences; first and foremost, Campion is almost double Skitter's height and size, and thus is also significantly heavier. Secondly, his exoskeleton is a lot thicker/bulkier, and his foremost pair of legs more heavily armoured too. His fangs are longer and thicker in comparison to the size of his head. Finally, whilst Campion does have wings, they are not quite as large compared to his body as Skitter's wings are; as such, whilst he can fly, he generally prefers not to do so, and isn't as nimble in the air. Can be summoned for up to six posts, and cannot be summoned again for at least another five.
Abilities:
Viscous Beam: Campion forcefully regurgitates a beam of a thick, gelatinous substance at an opponent to deal damage and slightly slow them down. If the attack misses and hits the ground, it will coat a patch of the floor about six feet in diameter in a thin layer of slime; this causes that patch of ground to become extremely slippery. Can be avoided by dodging to the side. Two post cool-down.
Earth-Shatter: Campion slams both of his heavily-armoured forelimbs down on the ground, releasing an earth-cracking tremor that will damage all opponents or allies on the ground within a radius of twenty five feet. Cannot damage airborne opponents, and thus can be dodged by jumping up as his forelimbs hit the ground. Three post cool-down.
Character Racial Ability:
Hive Mind: When in the company of her insect swarm on the world they inhabit (see her History for more), Rhythm is able to command each of them telepathically, i.e. without saying a word out loud. She is able to do this thanks to the 'hive mind' telepathic network that exists between them all; as they are all linked to her in this way, they can each receive and follow her commands, and can also use it to home in on her if she's in distress (this can only be done when she is on the hive's homeworld). However, as a result of this, if the hive mind is disrupted even slightly, it is likely the whole swarm will fall into chaos and disarray.
Character Strengths (1 required): Light on her feet, nimble, closely connected to her insect allies
Character Weaknesses (1 required): Low defences, schizophrenic, distracted easily
Character History (Minimum of 10 sentences required.):
The world of Praesidium. A world few have heard of outside of old tales and stories, and that even fewer have actually been fortunate enough to visit. Once home to a thriving population, and where unique forms of magic and science were once practiced. There, almost no differences could be made between technology and supernatural forces; they were often used in conjunction with each other, so much so that many newcomers could have mistaken them for being one and the same. The world was, for the longest time, justly ruled over by the royal family, and the monarchy thrived for centuries. And as was tradition for many places, even today, the right to rule that world was always passed on to the firstborn child of whomever was ruling at the time. As such, when a daughter named Kyra was born unto them, as she was their only child, she was christened as heir to the throne. Throughout her early years, she was well educated, taken care of and learned much, not just of her own world and its politics, but of other worlds too. Little did she know, however, that she would take on her full duties sooner than she could have ever predicted.
You see, under normal circumstances, Kyra would have been crowned at the age of 18, not long after her 18th birthday. However, when she was just 15 years of age, her parents were assassinated by enemies of the monarchy; said enemies were caught and executed, but due to her parents' passing Kyra was required to take the throne earlier than had been planned. Though a little nervous - this of course, was perfectly understandable - about taking the position, she did so with good grace and proceeded to do her best in the role. In fact, she was an extremely fair and intelligent monarch, and was very much liked amongst the people of her world. For the next two years of her life, her queendom prospered under her righteous rule. However, one unfortunate day... Everything changed, and changed more drastically than anyone could have ever predicted in their wildest dreams.
One fateful day, a swarm of monstrous creatures that nobody in all of Praesidium had ever heard of or seen before converged on the world, feasting not only on flesh, but on magic as well; these creatures were far fiercer than any of the Heartless that had appeared on that world before, even going so far as to devour the lesser Heartless and Nobodies that got in their way, thereby purging that world of those two kinds of entities of Darkness almost entirely (the only positive factor of the time). The mysterious creatures were fought off with all of the skill and strength Praesidium's armies could muster; it seemed as though, whilst the struggle was rather intense, that the enigmatic entities would soon be conquered or repelled. In the last days of this sudden war, however, the unthinkable happened... Kyra was captured by one of the monsters, and abducted to another world. This world, a world that to this day has not been named, was totally lacking in any human presence. Attempting to fight off the creature that had abducted her, Kyra received a sharp blow to the skull and was rendered unconscious. She could nothing as her bestial captor closed in, ready to finish her off entirely as her vision faded into blackness...
Upon her awakening, however, Kyra found herself to be somewhere completely different. Now, she was in a vast rock chamber, the walls of which were riddled with a myriad of tunnels and burrows, and she was not alone... She was in the hive of a rare swarm of Formica belua colossus, the largest, strongest and most intelligent species of ant known to mankind. Not that she knew that at the time, that is... In fact, there were a lot of things she didn't know at that moment, chiefly because the incident with her abductor had left her with a severe case of amnesia. She couldn't remember who she was, where she had originally come from, or even her own name. The shock and distress of the situation also caused the formation of her schizophrenic nature; as she tried to flee from her insect captors, though, something odd soon came to light... The creatures not only didn't want to harm her, they looked upon her as their superior, the Queen of the Hive, due to the fact that, by a miraculous coincidence, the scent of her pheromones was almost identical to those of the hive's previous queen, whom had died just days before. Thus, with nowhere else to go and nobody she could remember to return to, she remained with her new 'family', coming up with her new name of Rhythm Chase, tending to and becoming part of the hive, and becoming part of the shared Hive Mind...
...to this day, she still cannot recall her former self or her old world. The people of Praesidium are still without a ruler, too...and, even now, are still searching for their sovereign.
