Curious to see if anyone has gotten the chance to play it on the New 3DS. Or if you played it on the Wii. I got it for the New 3DS a few days ago and I love it. ^^ I quickly realized how lost you can get into side-quests though. I think I spent half of my 7 hours playing the game into side quests. As someone who is playing the game for the fist time, I was wondering if anyone had tips on the battle system? I'm getting a handle of it, but I'm sure there is some advance system in the combat that I haven't found yet.

Good call on picking it up, Red, Xenoblade is easily one of my favorite RPG's ever, so I'm happy to hear someone else is enjoying it. I have yet to pick up my copy of it for new 3DS (gonna get that tomorrow) but I pretty much beat the Wii version.
The battle system took some time for me to get used to, but it is really quite simple, but also complex. The battle system changes pretty greatly with the character you control, so I'd recommend swapping who you control as you go to see who you like the most. For example, playing as Shulk in the early game, you don't want to draw in too much aggro from enemies, you want to leave that to Reyn as he has the defense and HP for that, so Shulk is more of a support and should rely on auto-attacking and healing Reyn rather than just going straight offense. From my experience, I found that the games battle system was very dependent on management of your arts, talent art and the party gauge. Sure, you can use your arts all willy nilly, but you do that at the risk of gaining enemy aggro. As for party gauge management, it really just divides into a "will I use all of it for a chain attack or save it for picking up downed allies?" situation. (The party gauge has more uses, but I'm not sure how far you are, so I'll refrain from mentioning them. Art's that cause status effects can be tied together in a chain attack to rack up some big damage, so be sure to read the game's tips on them and learn how they work. Affinity is something that also adds some neat mechanics to the battle, as you can make the character's affinity toward each other grow if they are battling together. Characters having more affinity towards each other has some pretty cool perks, like an increased chance to keep a chain attack going or even increasing the rank of the gems you craft, so try to keep everyone liking each other lol. I'm not sure just how much you have access to yet,as you just started, so I'll stop here.
Also, do yourself a favor and be sure to be playing the game with headphones in, Xenoblade had one of the best soundtracks I've heard from a game in quite some time. And don't you worry, the side quest don't EVER stop coming lol. There's always something to do in Xenoblade, so my biggest advice to you outside of combat would just be to go explore the huge maps, there's plenty of goodies and secret areas hidden within them.

I got to play some more of it. I'm currently stuck on Xord. I know I can break and topple him, but my team just doesn't do any damage to him.

I forget where I am, but I picked up a PAL copy before it was out in America. My Wii is modified to play games region free ;\ I had a ton of fun with it, but then I just... stopped playing for a few months for some reason. Big mistake. When I turned it on again, I had no idea what was happening anymore.
I -should- replay it at this point, but I have so many hours invested, and I do want to see how it ends. I'll probably read a synopsis afterward so it all makes sense and I can remember certain parts of the game better =P
I definitely encourage those who have a new 3DS XL (or even just a Wii(U)) to pick up this game!

I managed to beat Xord and I got so much further than I think I should be. Currently around level 44. I love going back to older areas and just wreck the monsters that gave me so much trouble before. I also learned that you can trade with NPCs in this game.....30 hours into the game.
