There was a sound of someone sniffing the air. As our young heroine traversed the walls and rooftops of Twilight town, she was trying to get her bearings, to no avail. This place was just too different from her home in the forests of Ivalice.
"What is this place. There is hardly any connection with nature here."
While pondering this, she sat at the edge of a rooftop, with her legs dangling off. However, she wouldn't be able to scout forever, as her stomach was making noise to alert her to her growing hunger. Finally giving in, she dropped down to street level just as the tram passed below her. Landing softly on the roof, she rode the tram to the point nearest to the grocer. After buying a packaged salad, she sat on a wall and struggled to open it.
"What is with these humes? They don't act like the ones in Ivalice. They don't even carry weapons."
Finally, after five minutes, she removed the lid, and started eating. She used an arrow to spear the lettuce and eat with, occasionally drawing an odd stare from bypassing pedestrians. Though she believed that most of the stares were directed at her ears.

Eventually one of those passerbys would be a skinnier, pale man of average height and messy black hair with a fancy blindfold on who held his arm up to the girl. In his hand was something that appeared to be made of a glowing hot-pink energy that had flowing specks, shaped like an eating fork. If the girl took it from him, it would feel just like an ordinary stainless steel fork despite its unorthodox appearance. It was crafted from ability to create energy but that did not detract from its function.
"I applaud your effective use of a weapon as a practical utensil but maybe this will help" he spoke, his voice a robotic monotone that seemed to carry no emotion whatsoever; his expressiveness being as apparent as his ability to see. Should the girl take the fork, he would lean on the wall with her and remain silent otherwise he would dissipate the fork first and remain nearby.
The man's motivations were often difficult to explain, but he often had too much time to kill. Normally he would be meditating at his permanent residence in Traverse Town, but this place was a good substitute to check out what's going on when there was a particularly slow down at home. Plus, someone's aura who wasn't from around these worlds originally stuck out like a sore thumb and those were a lot more rare in Twilight Town specifically.

Kyrn eyed the stranger suspiciously for a while before she finally took the fork from him. "Perhaps a rooftop would have been a better place to eat. I wouldn't have drawn as much attention." She continued to eat while she watched this person, wondering what made him so different from others. "This may sound more rude than it is, but, why are you here? I ask because you don't seem like the average hume."
She continued eating her salad as she waited for an answer. Once she finished, she didn't know what to do with the energy fork. She believed that the strange man might want the fork back, but she also understood that metal could be recycled. With this conundrum reached, she stared at the fork with her ears drooping a bit.

Excellent choice, taking the fork. The stares would probably decrease slightly? But the potentcy of the shining fork and the fact that she still had rabbit ears would probably draw in a decent number of looks. At least the level of surprise would be less, seeing as she's not shoveling greens into her face with a fully-functional arrow anymore. The man silently wondered how often she ate like that.
Less excellent choice, her question. It was vague, didn't really open any interesting doors; in his opinion. "Where's 'here'? In Twilight Town, or standing next to you?" His dry monotone never failing to leave an awkward silence in the air after, even if it was only for a fleeting moment. He could've tried to assume what she meant and gave her way too much information, or just-- actually, that wasn't a terrible idea.
"If you mean Twilight Town, then same reason as you. If you mean next to you, it's because you're not from around here and I'm curious."
Well, at least he was honest. The fork, once she was finished using it, would simply dissipate into nothing.

This person she had never met had made some very astute observations.
"My name is Kyrn. I come from a forest in a land called Ivalice. As for how I ended up here, that is a long story. The short version is that I was drawn into some kind of dark ball. When I awoke, I was sitting in an alley not far from here."
Kyrn wasn't one for long conversations. She didn't like to waste time, or sit idle. And yet, there was something interesting about this person.
"As for my goals, I just want to see how far this proverbial rabbit hole goes. And yes, I get the irony of me using that phrase. So, hume, do you have a name? Can you give any sound advice?"
She was getting nervous about this person. Not in a particularly good or bad way, though. Something just seemed out of place.
"As I said before, you seem different from the other humes here."

Despite not asking (and quite honestly, not caring) the man received the person's name. However, it lead to a more involved introduction which got to the bits he actually cared about. She seemed to have a good memory of her origins before she was dragged into this perilous, unforgiving solar system which would help the man's cause of information gathering so long as she was willing to share. He could easily fill in all the blanks she had.
Except she made the mistake of asking his name. Normally his responses are quick, curt, and within milliseconds of being prompted (not that she would know having met him for all of a few seconds) but this one had a slight, noticeable moment before he replied. There was no expression on his face or shift in body language to signify what he thought, but his mind was a torrential outburst of decisions to make.
"I'm JeY. The reason I seem different is because I'm not what you refer to as a 'hume', but your confusion would be valid since I strongly resemble one; on purpose." There was another slight pause. Every unique place always had an interesting alias for the human race, but JeY was numb to it all really. "If you want my advice, I recommend making friends. I'll save you some trouble, you won't be able to consider me one, but so long as you do not give me a reason to be I will not be hostile toward you."
Despite his expressionless face, it seemed eerie that he didn't look like he was done speaking either, despite yet another unusual pause. "Others tend to not be so logical."

"Making friends sounds tedious, and unnecessary. I would rather you stick to information that will further my goals."
Kyrn's face scrunched up into a scowl as she said this.
"I hate having my time wasted on trivial matters. Perhaps I should have been more direct in my line of questioning."
Kyrn was not quite used to this place or it's people. However, she was not in any hurry to get used to them either.
"How do I get out of here, and where should I go next?"
This was as direct as she could be at the time, and her goal was clearly stated.
"This place does not have much of a connection with nature. I may yet be driven mad if I stay much longer."
Her ears twitched ever so slightly as she spoke, as she was clearly irate about her current predicament.

There was a certain immediate appreciation for the fact that this girl didn't mince words. She spoke her mind directly, freely, curtly. There was no wasted time or effort, just the task at hand and the intention to solve it. Maybe this creature could be worth keeping in touch with after all, once he's done learning about her origin. He already had most of what he wanted, but there were a few missing details; just some loose ends he always tied when he approached people from other worlds, dimensions, universes...
"There are a number of options for both travel and destination. I could point you to nature." JeY would respect the girl's unspoken desire to not beat around the bush by communicating the necessary points exactly, but emotion would continue to be absent from his demeanor entirely. He bent over and picked up a loose stone with a precise grip, and appeared to be examining it despite his blindfold. Something seemed to trouble him.
"Or would you rather go home?"

"Home? But adventure awaits. Or do you think me some crying child who cries for her mother?"
Kyrn had no interest in returning home until she had done some exploring.
"Besides, there was an ongoing battle during the time of my disappearance. Even if I did return home, I would be exiled for desertion."
Kyrn's ears drooped as she said this, and but she steeled herself.
"So, where to first? If I'm going to be stuck in a location that isn't my home, I may as well do some exploring. Besides, this place is getting tiresome. I need a place that's a little more free, with tall trees, and vines, and....."
Her eyes were shining brightly as she spoke, and she couldn't help but stutter a bit. Still, something bothered her about this JeY.
"I told you how I arrived here, but what about you? Perhaps you might show me how to reach another location?"

"I always have to ask" JeY would reply when Kyrn expressed her interest in continuing her story here, in this distorted alien dimension rather than her homeland. It was admirable, though where she was from was probably far more interesting than where the man originated so he couldn't really relate with the sentiment of not wanting to go home. His circumstances were way different.
He listened to the girl express everything else was on her mind, but just as he thought he heard enough and was about to fulfill the girl's desire she opened up the conversation for JeY to give a little bit of his own background. "Like I said before, the reason I'm here is the same as you." It was only a half truth, he was sucked out of his home world through a vortex but there were a few missing details that explain things more clearly.
However this would be the end of their small talk. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers, and a swirling portal of energy in various shades of pink appeared with ornate columns accentuating the sides. It was a fancy, bright doorway that our adventurers would not see what was on the other side until it was stepped through. "Through here, you'll get to see a world more in tune with nature."

"I see, then. I suppose that I will have to take you at your word. And perhaps, if we're lucky, we may even see some combat while we're there."
As Kyrn stepped towards the portal, she couldn't help but feel a rush of exhilaration.
"Oh, and one more thing. This...agreement between us is purely business nothing more."
As a Vierra, Kyrn could normally sense certain things. However, her senses told her nothing when it came to JeY. Before stepping through, she offered a few final words to JeY.
"Keep in mind that if you cross me, you will not be forgiven."
And with that, our fresh faced adventuress was whisked off to another world. It was almost as if she had never been to this one, since she didn't really interact with anyone besides JeY.

So the girl was interested in some fighting? She had come to the right place. JeY wouldn't be her opponent, that would be far too cruel, but there was always something to do with conflict wherever you went in this universe. It seemed to be an unwritten rule when Heartless were a factor in the occasion; if there wasn't conflict they would surely make it an issue quickly.
It also always amused the man when others spoke of crossing them as if they had any bearing on the situation. It was never an issue, JeY was simple in that he doesn't believe in tricking others as opposed to just screwing them over up front. The main factor of delight was the other party(ies) believing they could make the man pay for whatever malicious action he would be inflicting. He didn't even flinch. "I don't take advantage of others. I observe them or kill them."
The man would follow her into the portal shortly after her departure.
