The darkness seemed to last forever. So did the water. Red held his breath for as long as he could. But as every second continued to pass, he was finding himself finding it harder and harder to not open up for a breath of air.
"I should have taken a bigger breath before diving."[/color] He said to himself. He had no idea where Jean, Annalese, Lakari, or anyone was. He felt alone and afraid. Was he going to die from drowning?
After all that had happened, it seemed sort of stupid to die from drowning. There was no style in dieing that way! The steady flow of water continued to flow until at last it suddenly stopped. And when it did, Red noticed sunlight coming from a few yards up.
Was it finally over then. Red couldn't wait to find out. He began to kick with all his might. He needed to get to the surface, at least for a breath of air if not anything else.
When at long last his head broke through the water, he opened up his mouth to take in a deep breath of air. It felt refreshing! There was no other way to describe it. Red was so concentrated on breathing that he didn't even take a look around.
He had yet to even see if they were off the world yet. What pulled Red out of his concentration was a large boom. Red looked up to see at least twenty cannon balls sail through the air. He watched them travel through the air and collide with a large wooden ship.
Watching the cannon balls tear the ship apart was amazing. One moment the ship was there, the next wood was flying everywhere. The ship was only a couple meters away and Red could hear the screams of the dying. What could have caused something like that?"[/i] He asked himself.
The answer to that question came from a turn of the head. Red watched as a large ship, similiar to the other, sailed right towards them. The only difference between this ship and the other were the sails. They were black and carried the symbol of a skull and cross bones.

Washed away was a pretty good term to use when looking at everyone's predicament. Just after Annalese, the others had all jumped into the water after her. Where they were going, no one had a clue. All the water was suffocating though. It made Jean's heart give a threatening leap as she was sent careening through a seemingly endless void of water.
Would they be able to stop soon and find a surface to even breathe?! Was this the end for them all? Right now, she was worried if she would see the light of another day as water swirled about her rather than what lengths Silver would even go to toward her. It unnerved her a lot when he had gone and done those things to her. With him in control of her father's body too, it was difficult for her not to be badly affected by this.
Also, where were the others? Annalese, who had been ahead of them, was either alive or dead by now. However, Jean had to admire her character a bit. She was quite gutsy to go and do something like she did. Then again, she was a vampire. Vampires probably needn't have to worry about things humans did. Maybe that was where the girl's courage came from along with the disregard to her own safety?
Her thoughts wandered between everyone but Red and Rowen were thought of the most. Were they alright? Did they make it through? She hoped so, she didn't want to think any of them had died.
Then suddenly, a shimmering light caught her attention. Gaining control of herself as best she could, Jean forced herself toward the light. It had to be the surface, she just knew it! Sure enough, as she got closer, Jean's head erupted from the water. Bright light seared her sight for the time being as she spluttered.
Taking in what breaths she could, Jean looked around finally. "Where...am I?" she said aloud. She hadn't seen Red or anyone else yet as she spotted what looked to be an old looking ship. From the looks of it, they were battling. One with an ominous black sail and skeleton head with crossbones came drifting her way.
"Uh oh!" came a voice nearby. Looking over, Jean found Sain, Dyne and Rowen. Rowen being the first to say something. For some odd reason, knowing they were well made her heart give a great leap. Looking around further, she found Red there too.
"Is everyone alright?"

Jean's words called Red's attention from the menicing ship. Looking around he spotted, Jean, Sain, Dyne and Rowen. Where was Ryu? Annalese? And what about Lakari?
As if on cue, the water next to Red began to bubble. Not a moment later, Lakari burst through the surface. Spitting water from his lips he wore a scowl. "I do not like water." The old man said with a shake of his head.
"I think were alright... But where is Annalese? And Ryu?" Was he the only one to notice that they were not here. Or perhaps they had yet to get out of the water. This thought made Red turn his face to the sea. Did the two get lost in the water? Red hoped not.
A sudden boom pulled Red's attention once again to the open sky. Glancing up, Red watched a cannon ball sail right towards them. It landed only about fifteen feet from their direction. Red's eyes opened wide. The cannon had come from the same ship as before. And it was still heading right towards them.
"If I didn't know better. I would say that ship was trying to hit us." Lakari commented. A second later another boom followed the first. The cannon ball splashed ten feet away from them, causing large waves to ripple from the water. "Alright now I'm certain their trying to hit us."
Red nodded in agreement. "I think we should start swimming for the ship. If we get up close to the ship they can't fire upon us there with cannons." Of course it never occurred to Red that they would be right in sight of anyone looking from the ship above. Still it was probably a better altrenative then sitting in the open sea.
Without waiting, Red began to swim towards the oncoming ship. He hoped everyone else followed. Arm over arm, the closer he came to the ship, the bigger it began to appear. It wasn't long before he was only feet away from the oncoming ship. This close he could make out a bunch of different men dressed in a variety of clothing working aboard the ship.
One man though stood out in particular. He stood at the back of the ship steering it in a direction. He was a man in his thirties to forites with long black hair that went all the way down to his back. Ontop of his head he wore a black leather boater hat with a red feather tucked into the left side.
He was donned in black pants and a matching black coat that sprouted out like a cape from the torso down. In addition he wore a plain white buttoned dress shirt, long knee length brown boots, and brown gloves with a red ribbon tied around each wrist. Finally a single sword rested in a brown belt around his waist. Red took him to be the Captain of the ship.
There were a variety of sounds coming from the ship, but all of them raised when a single man pointed a finger down to Red. Suddenly the whole ship went up in arms. The man Red had deemed as Captain turned in his direction. He pointed a single finger at Red and muttered a sentence Red could not make out from this distance.
But Red did hear the words of the men right above him. "You heard the Captain. Capture them!"

"We're over here!" came Ryu's voice from their left. Compared to the others, they had been a bit farther away. Ryu seemed to be helping Annalese since the girl looked like she wasn't dong so swell. "I'm not sure why but I don't think she knows how to even swim!" Ryu stated as he swam over with Annalese in tow.
No one appeared to have heard them though since at the time Ryu chose to talk, a large boom filled the air. Fifteen feet away from the group, a canon ball had made contact with the water. Judging by what Lakari had said, it certainly looked as though the canon was meant for them. Sure enough, another canon ball hit the water a bit closer this time around.
"Well, that can't be good!" Jena stated. She looked over at Red when he said they should try and swim closer to the ship so that they can't get them with the canons. "Um...I like the idea and I don't. What if-! Hey! Wait!" Jean stated but it was too late. Already, everyone began to do as Red suggested. Seeing no other way to avoid this situation, Jean followed suite.
It wasn't long until they were right up to the ship. "Be quiet!" she whispered to those near her. She hoped they wouldn't be seen but she doubted it. She couldn't help but feel they had somehow happened upon a world with pirates. Jean had heard of them on Gaia once before but never anything like this. It was strange.
Suddenly, the alarm was sounded from up above. Voices were heard and what they were saying was to capture them! "Quick! Swim away!" she stated. It would be difficult for them to get a hold of them in the water anyway. As long as they stayed close enough but away from canons or guns, they should be fine. At least, that's what she was hoping for. She wasn't aware if they had any means of getting a hold of them.

Red was happy that Jean barked the order. Cause if she hadn't he would have frozen in that instant. He would have surely been captured then. Without glancing to see what was happening above deck, he spread the water with his free stroke.
He got about ten feet before Red felt himself being pulled out of water from a net under the sea. Red watched in complete surprise as some sort of fish creature shot from the water. It was green and humanoid in nature. The net was connected to the creature's webbed hands as if the creature had made them himself.
The creature had to have had high powered legs because a single jump from the water pulled Red, the net, and the creature onto the ship's deck. As Red was about to land on the ship, he spotted shadows under each of his companions. A second later more of the creatures jumped aboard the ship. He could not see if they had captured his friends as well because they stood in front of the net.
"Jean? Everyone?!" His voice was cut off as a group of pirates approached him and the other nets. If one was paying attention to the behavior of the pirates, they would see that the pirates shot glances at the sea creatures. Almost as if they didn't trust them.
Red did not see this. He was to busy staring wide eyed in horror as one of the pirates cut the net with his sword. The next threw a rope around Red and tied his hands next to his toros. "Strap them up gentlemen!" The voice belonged to the Captain. He strolled down a pair of wooden steps and stopped right in front of them.
"Welcome aboard the Seamen's Nightmare. I am Captain White!" Sweeping off his hat he made an overbearing bow that seemed to suggest mockery not appreciation. "You are my prisoners!"

Jean wasn't sure if they could make it depending on what the enemy had. However, they had to try. As they did though, something unexpected happened. Underneath them, something had ensnared Red. Before long, he was somehow lifted up into the air onto the ship's deck! "RED!" she exclaimed. "RED!" mirrored Rowen's reaction seeing the kid get suddenly taken aboard.
"The hell was that?!" exclaimed Sain. Suddenly, everyone else was dragged aboard in a similar fashion. All were entrapped in nets, unable to break free as they looked around the deck they were brought upon.
"What's the meaning of this?!" Jean growled. Her swords were sheathed but in the net, she was so entangled, she couldn't grab hold of her weapons. Before she could, the net was cut and she had her arms tied at her sides. A dangerous glint was in her eyes as she studied their captors. Each of the pirates that had apprehended her and the others seemed fidgety. As if they didn't trust the creatures near them.
"You son of a-!" Rowen's voice had come from somewhere close by but his voice was cut short by a loud thud, as if someone might've hit him to quiet him. After that, the captain had approached them. Jean simply kept her expression fierce as she looked up at him as he introduced himself, calling them his prisoners in a mocking way.
"What's the point of capturing us? We didn't do anything to you!" Next to her, in the corner of her eye, she could see Annalese's teal head. From the looks of it, she was unconscious.

Red was thinking those exact words that Jean had just asked the Captain. It was sad that they were all captured. After just escaping that strange world they found themselves trapped on a new one! Would they ever get to a place where they didn’t have to fight? Red was seriously beginning to doubt it.
Upon hearing those words the captain looked offended. “Didn’t do anything to us?! What about all those villages you attacked! All the children you killed!” A scowl cast across the Captain’s face.
“It’s pirates like you that deserve to hang. I believe everyone has a right to a little treasure stealing and goodness knows attacking the navy is justified. But attacking villages and killing children! We all saw what you did to Caloway. We pulled in right after you left!”
Red was beginning to understand. They thought they were part of the other ship! ”Sir were not pirates. We weren’t even on the ship.”
The entire pirate crew burst out in laughter. Even the Captain had a chuckle. “And I suppose you just appeared in the water when there’s no ship around for miles besides this one. And that one.” The Captain’s finger pointed out to what was left of the rubble of the ship that they had destroyed.
“Take them to the cells. I’ll deal with them later.” Before Red could speak another word of protest, he found himself being picked up by two pirates. He could do nothing as they led him and the others down a pair of steps to below the deck. This part of the ship was obviously not the sleeping quarters but the stock hold because there were crates of food and jugs of water everywhere.
There was one large jail cell that held in the corner of the ship. Standing outside of the jail cell was a large man. He was donned in only sailor pants and boots. He sat upon a chair that leaned against the wall.
“We got seven more for ya Jimbo.” The large man perked up his bald head. Red was able to trace a large scar going down his forehead and over his eye. Standing up Jimbo stood at seven feet tall. His chest and arms were a mix of muscle and fat. He picked up a large club next to the chair and placed it on his shoulder.
“Good. Perhaps now Mister Silent will have some company.” Jimbo reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. Unlocking the gate to the large cell he turned on Red first. Quite simply he put his hands on each side of the rope and pulled. The rope came apart as if it was nothing more then paper.
Red was the first to be thrown into the cell. One by one Jimbo took off the rope of the others until they were all in and he closed and locked the gate. ”This sucks.” Red said in defeat.
”You have no idea.” Red spun around at the sudden voice. Sitting on the only chair in the room was Artemis.

Jean furrowed her eyebrows when the captain responded to her question. From the sound of it, he had thought they had been responsible for what had been done to those families that had been attacked. Jean frowned at this. "If you didn't see us specifically do it, then how can you go about accusing us of such a thing? We werne't on that ship!" she had seconded what Red said to the captain but it didn't appear as though he were listening to them.
Without a second glance, he had them sent down below decks into the stock holding area. There, they found a large man by the name of Jimbo. Jean didn't really put up a fight as she was tossed into the cell. 'Great, out of the frying pan and into the fire again!' she thought with a sigh. Well, at least they weren't going to be killed just yet.
Rowen, whom was usually the difficult one, got himself punched a few times in the navel before he was thrown in with the rest of them. "D-Damn bastards!" he growled.
Jean just shook her head before looking toward the source of the voice. Her eyes widened a little. After what took place with him the last time, it was no wonder that Jean would be looking at him grumpily. "So we meet again!" she stated.
"You!" Rowen stated. He hadn't forgotten the kid that kept attacking Jean and Red. It was because of Artemis and Red's unwell aimed attack that he had to leap in to protect Jean from death.
Annalese began to wake and when she did, she noticeably hissed seeing Artemis there. Instinctively, she shrunk behind the person closest to her to get away from him. After having been hurt badly by the human, one could understand why she'd react in such a way.

Artemis regarded them with a blank expression. It had been the only words he had said since stowing away on the ship a week ago. He had thought himself very well hidden, and practically untracable. Until those fish like creatures appeared. They had ruined his hiding.
"Yes it appears that it is I." Artemis said blankly to Rowen. He was making fun of the mercenary, but with saying it so matter of factly it was hard to tell if he was kidding.
Lakari was the only who seemed to not recognize the assassin. "Perhaps I missed something.... But who is he?"
Red answered. "A thorn in my side for to long. He's trying to kill me!" As if the words themselves would set the assassin off, Red's fists clung into fists. Knowing the assassin he would have some sort of weapon on him even now. Perhaps now death really was near.
The assassin crossed his arms. "Alot has changed since I last saw you. Your death means nothing to me now. I am practically dead anyway." There was a look of utter defeat on the assassin's face. It was the first expression Red saw on the face of the assassin.
Behind that look was a man who seemed to be in deep pain. It was not even a man. A teen who never had a childhood, never had the privlage of feeling anything for anyone. The assassin suddenly looked nothing more then a teenager caugh in a series of misforturnes. Red could see this because he was the same.
Red suddenly felt the need to go over to the teen and give him a hug. But something stopped him. Spotting the face of Lakari and some others he read that same expression. The question was, would any of them do it?

Annalese remained rooted to the spot wherever she had hid behind someone. After all the pain she had gone through, she wasn't about to trust what this human said to them any time soon. If anyone had been in Annalese's position, they would understand. Her eye's pupils had become slitted like that of a cat's as she kept her rich purple eyes directed and fixed on him for any hostile movement. If she were hungry, she might've bitten him to make him feel some pain in return after what he had done to her. It was lucky for him that Lakari had taken her hunger away for the time being.
Rowen just watched Artemis carefully. He didn't at all like where they had been locked up. Right now, he was worried if the kid had a hidden weapon somewhere. It was strange how young he was, able to have such skills in that of assassination already. It made him wonder how such a young kid managed to get himself into something like this. Then again, he reflected, he hadn't exactly been all that different.
Dyne's and Rowen's past hadn't exactly been a happy one. They left home as preteens because their mother couldn't afford them and their step father was abusive. It was because of Rowen that Dyne had come along. If he hadn't dragged his younger brother out, they would still be at home in that mess. Even still, his eyes narrowed as he looked back at Artemis.
Considering the way his and the other's armor worked, they could easily try and summon their weapons but he didn't risk it right now with no provocation. That and whatever barriers there were, it wouldn't be a good thing to go and try it only to find themselves weaponless. Even still, he made sure he sat himself close to where Jean and Red were in case he had to step in. Not that he'd be able to do much considering their situation.
"Did I not tell you that they were using you, already? You should have heeded the warning." It was a bit harsh but compared to what she could have said, this was a gentler response to what Artemis had said. Looking at the state he was in, it was obvious he was in deep pain. Like Red, she felt sympathetic toward him. Still, she didn't forget the pain he had caused her, Rowen, Red and Annalese.
There was a long silence between them all. It was obvious no one knew what to say or do. What could they do? It was still obvious though to Jean that this assassin was still a kid practically even if he did try to kill them a few times in the past. Seeing as no one else moved, Jean uncertainly approached Artemis's side. She didn't trust him but he looked so troubled. For some odd reason, he reminded her of Red. He looked so much like Red right now.
Rowen looked at her questioningly, already what she was doing made him uneasy. What the hell was she doing?! What if the kid had a knife and tried to slit her throat?! He watched carefully as Jean slowly looked from Red to Artemis and sighed.
Jean could see the look on Red's face, he was feeling sympathetic toward Artemis as well despite the things he had done. Gently, she placed an arm about the kid's shoulders and pulled him gently into a hug. "Not all is lost. You are still alive, you know." Her tone was gentle, like that of a mother's almost. Much the way she spoke to Red whenever he was troubled.
"Just cast aside what ties you had with those people. You may have hurt us in the past but...if you promise to not kill any of us or hurt us again, we will welcome you among us. Sure, we might not trust you at first but that is to be expected. You'll have to earn our trust." Rowen just looked at her hard for a moment. Did she seriously think this kid could just change like that?! Even still, he refrained from saying anything, right now he was just watching carefully how the other was going to react. Even Rowen was shocked to see Jean acting so...so...motherly. He was used to seeing her act more like, well the General he used to know her as. It...mystified him sometimes to see her acting like well...a girl. Then again, it reminded him of how he felt toward her. Jean was definitely someone to admire, she really had guts.

Artemis glanced up from his locked gaze on the floor. How had it gone so wrong so fast? It was hard to even think about it. One moment things were going as they should, and the next.... Artemis could hear the words as clearly as if they were being spoken to him. "I had such high hopes for you. But you have failed me, and thus have failed my master So you shall die! Run Artemis for I give you one day. One day to run as far away from me as you can."
And thus that was exaclty what Artemis did. He! The greatest assassin alive. Forced to run like a mouse. He was a failure. For that reason alone he had no intrest in Red anymore. The teen meant nothing to him. He was but a mission he was forced into. And now because of him he was being hunted. He the hunter, being hunted!
Hand's curling into fists, he felt as if he was going to simply break. He could so easily kill everyone in this room. There was no doubt about it. The only trouble would be the girl. She was almost as fast as he was. She would be the most trouble. Red and the others were right in their thinking about Artemis having a weapon.
He had been stripped of his sword obviously. But his jeweled dagger was still on his person. With his head cast down, it was hard to read his expression. None could see the question on his face. Should he just get rid of them?
All of his thoughts left when Jean laid a hand on his shoulder. He was surprised by the sudden kindness. What did she mean? How could she just let him join them? He had tried to kill Red countless of times. He would have never offered himself that chance if he were in her shoes.
Artemis didn't know what to do. He glanced up at Red. His face showing confusion. Red's face seemed to agree with Jean. He was even smiling. How could he smile? Artemis rose. His expression was blank. After years of training he could return to this expression with ease. He could control every expression in his face.
He turned to Annalese. "You are the one I hurt the most. I leave the decision to you."

Jean could tell it shocked the nameless kid as she had placed an arm about him and had pulled him into a gentle hug. Maybe all he needed was kindness? After all, years before this, her father did the same thing with Rowen and Dyne whom had been pretty troubled kids in the past. Sure, she knew she was taking a risk but at the state he was in, she believed this was the right moment to go and do this.
She could tell by his body language that he was very surprised by what she had done. Glancing over at Red, she could see he was smiling and she smiled too. It looked like things were going to be okay.
Rowen, seeing that things looked like they were simmering down, finally eased down. A slight smile was on his face despite what happened in the past between them. Dyne reflected his brother's smile as well. Sain and Ryu soon followed suit. The only one who wasn't smiling was Annalese hiding behind Lakari. It was obvious on her face that she was just afraid of him. Having heard what transpired, she couldn't help but look at him uneasily.
Still, her senses were greater than the humans around her. She could tell Artemis was greatly confused yet...it didn't seem like he would be hostile. "I don't...sense your hostility...anymore." She spoke carefully, still somewhat behind the elderly human as she looked up at Artemis. She was clearly afraid of him and for good reason considering what he had done to her.
"A-As long as...you don't hurt me again." So, it seemed like rather unexpectedly, they had gained a new ally...if and only if Artemis was going to go with it.
"Well, you heard her...so, gonna join us then?" Rowen stated. Compared to earlier, his voice was more friendlier.

Red was glad that this was going well. The arrival of Artemis had surely meant disaster. At least that was Red's original thinking. But things had seemed to have happened for a reason. Silver was right. Alot had changed while they were gone.
"I will accompany you so long as our paths continue the same way." Red found the answer vague, but there was no pushing the matter. Red wouldn't force Artemis to join them. Then again part of him still didn't trust the assassin anyway.
It would seem that they were mutual allies as far as things went. "This seemed to have worked out just fine then." Lakari said, taking a step away from Annalese ruining her hiding spot. Lakari could have easily blocked any sort of attack the assassin had thrown at them with his barrier. Of course that didn't mean that he was as fast as the assassin.
"Why are you in this jail then... son?" Lakari asked Artemis. He had yet to learn the assassin's name.
"I'm running... from some dangerous people. Figured they couldn't catch me in the middle of the sea."
Red nodded. It made enough sense. Having the ability to open portals himself, he knew how complex it was. You couldn't just open a portal anywhere. You had to keep in mind where that portal was going to open up. Being on a ship made it almost next to impossible to place a portal there and not end up in the water. It was much easier making portals in cities and such. Places that didn't have a velocity.
"So you stowed huh?" Red asked with a small smile. He was trying to make things more friendly among them all.
Artemis's answer was a single nod. Red was wondering about the assassin's findings. Especially since he was searching for his name... But he didn't want to push him. After all he had just joined the group.

Everyone listened as Artemis spoke. For now, it looked as if he would become one of their number. However, what he said had been vague implying that he might not stick with them for long depending on how things went. Well, if he chose to leave, Jean wouldn't stop him. Just as long as he didn't try to fall back on his old ways meaning targeting Red. Jean could do with one less enemy, after all. She just hoped the simple act of kindness changed him, if only but a little.
"Fair enough. We won't force you to come along the entire way if that is your choice." She was at least letting him know that he could leave them if he ever wished to when he decided their paths weren't going the same way anymore. If fate would have it, they could probably end up encountering him again some day if he were to leave them. Maybe after this encounter, he'll remember that kindness they had all shown him.
She let out a small sigh as she looked out toward the gloomy ship's stock hold. Just what were these pirates going to do to them? Were they going to toss them overboard or something? How were they going to get out of here? So many questions about their situation ran through her head, she didn't know where to even begin. Closing her eyes a bit, Jean just leaned against the iron bars of their cell and fell silent for the time being, letting the others mingle.
Rowen and Dyne were in their own corner, interacting somewhat. It was harder for Rowen to interpret what Dyne was motioning since he was still getting used to using just one eye right now. "I'm sure we'll figure something out, bro." Rowen, even though he wasn't sure himself, was showing some optimism. Apparently, Dyne sometimes relied on Rowen to be the stronger of the two when it came to things like this, when their fates seemed uncertain.
Sain sighed before looking over at Ryu then to Lakari and Artemis and then Red. "Smart move, I'd say. Definitely harder to track someone on the open sea." Ryu nodded at that.
Annalese remained quiet as she slowly came out of her fright to glance around at the cell they were in. It was dark but the gloom didn't bother her. She was used to the darkness since she lived in it if she didn't have the ring she had on.
"I guess we wait until they come to speak to us!" Jean muttered, opening her eyes and gazing at the lot of them. Just what happened while they were all away? How much had changed? Did the worlds carry on as if nothing had ever happened? So many questions, so little time to answer.

"He'll be coming any moment now." It was Jimbo who answered Jean. After everything that had happened in the last few minutes, Red had totally forgotten that the jail guard was even there. He had simply sat and listened to them all with interest.
Red turned to the jailer. "And who is he?" Red asked cockily.
The jailer just grinned at the boy. "Captain White. You're all gonna die soon. We don't take kindly to people who murder women and children."
It took everything in Red to not shout at the jailer. "We didn't kill... anybody." Red had paused before the last word. What he had said was a lie. He had indeed killed someone. Sure it wasn't a woman or a child... But he had killed an innocent none the less. Still they weren't responsible for what had happened to that village or whatever.
Jimbo opened his mouth to speak but his voice was cut off by one from above the staircase. "That's alright Jimbo. I'll see if their lying or not." Captain White walked down the wooden steps. He was dressed exactly as before. From a closer view, Red could see that the Captain was filled with confidence in himself.
"Why don't you go get some grub. Cooks makin some chilli tonight." Jimbo smiled at that comment. He disappeared up the stairs not a moment later. Red, and most likely everyone else, watched as the Captain dragged the only wooden seat in the room right next to the cage. He took a seat on the chair and simply sat.
Red wanted to speak but he didn't know what to say. This was the Captain of the ship. Their fate was literally in this man's hands.
"You seem pretty headstrong on this whole not being on that ship business. Well seven people don't just randomly appear in the middle of an ocean without a ship in sight. Nor in the condition you all were in. So... explain it to me then. Don't try to lie to me though. This is the only chance I'm giving you. Fail... Well let's just say you won't like the outcome."
Red felt a tingle up his spine. He honestly didn't know what to say.

Of course, at the sound of the jailer's voice, everyone must have turned their heads toward him. During their time in the cell, it had been surprisingly easy to forget the guy was even there. Well, at least they hadn't said anything all that important. If anything, they probably just caused the jailer to wonder more about where they came from, if at all.
No sooner had he said this when the captain finally arrived. Jean carefully looked over at him as he took Jimbo's seat and spoke. As long as they told the truth, they shouldn't have any problems. Still, she hoped they weren't about to die. 'Hopefully, he'll believe us...but I doubt it!'
When the captain urged them to explain themselves. Well, here was the point where they should throw caution to the winds. Lying wouldn't get them anywhere if he figured out they lied. "I guess we could tell you." Sitting up, looking back at the captain, Jean was unafraid of death. Since she would be telling the truth, she knew she hadn't to worry about her eyes giving away the truth since she would be telling it.
"We came upon this world through the portal of another. It's connected to this one by the sea of your world. We were previously trying to escape creatures after our blood and a world that none could escape, yet you now see us before you. We did not have any association with whomever those people on that ship were. We're not of this world, I am sure you would have noticed the strange fashion of our clothes and weaponry?" She gave pause, letting the captain decide whether or not he wanted to believe them.
"I could tell you the whole detailed story rather than the brief summary but it's a long one." Rowen looked over at Jean then. The once tender person he had seen moments ago had been dropped to the general he knew her to be when it came to things like this. It was almost...disappointing.

Red was on the edge of his seat. He wasn't surprised tht Jean had gone ahead and told them the very truth. What he was wondering though was how he was going to react? The Captain seemed to listen with attentive ears. He nodded while she explained about the world they had come from, and even glanced over their cloathing and weaponry.
Then when Jean finished he burst out laughing. Red didn't know what to think from that response. Did he find their peril funny? Or did he not believe them? "That's the truth. I swear it."
The Captain finally calmed down. "Well...." He said, his voice trailing. "What your saying is so outlandish it would not make a very good lie. Which seems to suggest you are telling the truth. Or perhaps how you see the truth..."
Rising from the chair, the Captain looked at their clothing taking their whole appearance in. "If you were to lie, there would be tons of other ways to lie that would have been more successful. This must mean that you are telling the truth. Now do I really believe this truth... Well no. But I did say if you told the truth I would have no reason to hold you."
Reachign into his pocket, the Captain pulled out a set of keys. Putting one of the keys into the keyhole he unclocked the cell door and opened it. "This leaves you with a choice. We won't be reaching land for another week or so. I will let you off there and you can go your own way. THat of course is not the choice.
"All men on my ship are either prisoners or workers. That is your choice. You can work on the ship, help pull weight around here. In return you'll have your own sleeping quarters and a better meal a prisoner might have. Or you can stay in the cell and resume your prison sentence until we reach the next island. What you do is of no concern to me. If you wish to work, speak to my firstmate. You'll recognize him by the armless sleeve."
With that the Captain turned on his heel and walked up the stairs. Red was surprised by the Captain's intelligence. He was smarter then he had figured. "I don't know about all of you. But I've always wanted to be a pirate so..." As Red's voice trailed off he took a step out of the jail cell. He had made a decision. What would the others choose?

Jean knew that what she said would sound quite outlandish to the captain but she knew she wasn't lying. Her eyes hid no lies behind them as she watched the captain carefully. She could see that he was considering everything she had mentioned. By the light of his eyes, she knew she wasn't dealing with a simpleton. A sign of a good leader, no doubt. This proved he would be a cautious one.
At the mention of her and the other's clothing and weaponry, she knew she had him consider their foreign appearance. It was probably that which made him see that they hadn't been lying to him. It was with uneasiness that she watched as the captain laughed at what she said.
Red, nervous, had followed up stating that what had been said had been truth. In response, Jean gave an incline of her head as did a good few of the others. She couldn't explain Artemis's situation though. He hadn't been one of their number up until now. Would the captain demand an explanation from him as well? She wasn't sure. It wasn't until the captain claimed that where he hadn't believed them at first, it was still convincing enough to allow them release from their cell. Jean almost couldn't believe their luck. In fact, she was quite relieved. She didn't know for certain if he would've let them out or had them executed.
Unlocking their cell, the captain explained their situation and gave them two options. Either they work alongside his men or finish their sentence in the cell. Either way, they would be eventually released on the island that they would be heading toward. In understanding, Jean nodded her head. "Understood, captain." With that, she watched as the captain simply walked away from the cell and back toward the ship's deck.
Jean simply got up on her feet when Red stepped out of the cell. It was obvious by what he said that he wanted to try the working option. In her opinion, Jean believed the whole lot of them would rather make themselves useful than remain stuck in a cell the whole week. "I believe the lot of us are right behind you on that one, Red. I don't think a week would really do with any of us considering how uncomfortable and cramped it is." Stepping outside, Jean stretched. It felt good to get out of the not so spacious jail cell.
It didn't take long for the four mercenaries to follow suit, Annalese probably being closest to the last since she was still wary of her surroundings only having just returned to consciousness. "This place smells of rotting clams!" she sniffed.

Annalease was not the last out of the cell. In fact Red had not gone with Jean up the flight of stairs. He had watched as one by one their company went out. It was Artemis who still sat in the cage. Red was about to turn and follow Annalese up the stairs when he noticed that Artemis seemed to have no plans on leaving.
"Aren't you coming?" The teen asked, a bit confused.
Artemis simply shook his head. "That option was for you and your party, not I. I would not be of much use either way. I will join you all on the island when we leave. If you need anything I will help best I can. But for now... it is smart to stay here."
Red opened his mouth to protest, but he didn't say a word. Who was he to say differently. Artemis was his own person. "Well alright then." With that, Red left the assassin in the jail cell. He found their group waiting ontop of the steps.
"Well our new... friend... is staying down below." That was all Red said on the matter.
The captain had spoken about a one armed first mate that they should all go see. Red looked aboard the ship. Now that he wasn't tied up he really got a look at it. The ship was much larger then he had originally thought. Pirates moved about the deck doing different sorts of chores and tasks.
One of the pirates though stood out above the rest. He was one of the main men issuing orders. He was a large man around the belly, but short. He had two quick moving brown eyes and a military style hair cut. He wore a long sleeve shirt with one hand resting on a saber, and the other armless.
Red took it to be the first mate. After all, he was the only one armed man around. "I think that's who were supposed to go talk too." He said pointing the figure out. He figured either Jean or someone else would lead the way.

Jean had headed toward the stairs when she saw the others following her and Red's lead. Climbing up them, she wasn't aware that the assassin chose to stay below deck. When she reached the top, she took a good look around. It was much larger than what she previously had thought. On board, there were quite a good number of pirates.
'They appear to have some honor if they would go through such lengths to punish a ship full of men that harmed women and children...but...' she let her thoughts trail off to back when they had been stuck in that world of inbetween. Her last experience there hadn't at all been a pleasant one. Silver had been way too...intrusive.
The thought of that thing touching her using her father's body made her shudder. It had left an unpleasant scar in her mind. If anyone else had done it, she would've killed them on the spot. She had almost hit Silver but the wretch had slipped away with his unnatural speed before she could even react. It scared her to think what the thing must've been thinking next.
She hadn't paid any attention to those who came out on deck. As if sensing something was wrong, Rowen gently placed a hand on her shoulder and gave her a meaningful look. Blinking, as if coming out of a horrible trance, Jean looked back into his only visible eye. For a brief moment, she held eye contact with him. "It'll be okay, Jean." Just hearing his voice helped her recover a bit as she nodded.
The two broke contact, Rowen removing his hand from her shoulder and stepping away as Red came out onto the deck, announcing to them that Artemis chose to stay below deck. "Well, that is his decision then. We can't make him do what he doesn't want to do." The others nodded at this.
Blinking at the light above, Annalese scrunched her nose up a bit. "Salty air!" The others merely ignored the comment. She was always noticing obvious things or random things. It was just...her.
It wasn't until Red spoke up, pointing out the first mate, that the others finally decided to move. It wasn't Jean that took the lead this time though. Walking ahead of Rowen and Jean, after walking between the two, giving Rowen a raised eyebrow with a slight smirk on his face, Ryu headed for the first mate. Rowen blinked, watching Ryu walk by, his eyebrows furrowing as he gave him a questioning look. Of course, everyone but Rowen and Jean knew what was going on.
Once he was within earshot of the first mate, Ryu spoke. "Excuse me, sir! We were told to speak with you? The captain said we were to find out from you what work you would have us do while we're aboard."
