A mischievous laugh was all the unsuspecting victim heard before the trap was sprung. The middle aged man let out a loud curse as Lance had watched the man walk right into the booby trap he had set up. On the street, there was a trip wire that Lance had placed there. Anyone that was foolish enough to not watch where they were walking would have ice cold water suddenly dropped over their heads. The wire pulled the bucket of ice water off the edge of the building's ledge and would throw the water to the street below.
Lance, whom had been perched upon the roof, looking down into District One, couldn't help but hold his sides and laugh at the poor, helpless man below. The guy glared upward in Lance's direction and shook his fist at him, cursing him. Lance just stuck his tongue out at the man below as the man then left the street. It was cold already so when the ice water got him, it was even colder. Lance watched him go, laughing hard before daring to clamber off the rooftop he was on.
At a glance, it was easy to see that Lance's hair was very unkempt. Where it naturally was loose and wild, it was more wild as if he didn't have a parent to nag at him to take baths and the like. Truth be told, it was the case for him. Lance didn't have a family anymore. His mother had passed away when he turned seven years old and he never got to meet his father. His father had died back on the world where his parents came from when the Heartless took over. He knew nothing about the rest of his family or the world he was suppose to be living on. All that Lance knew was that he was alone in the world. Having to fend for himself, the kid often stole to get what food he needed in order to survive. No one ever took him in. In their eyes, Lance was a nuisance. No one ever bothered to try and teach him anything. In a way, it made Lance more aggressive and since he had no one to teach him otherwise, he was a little punk. So much so, that it was common talk amongst the locals that Lance wasn't something anyone wanted to find anywhere near them because he was so much trouble.
"Another sucker," Lance murmured as he came out into the center square. People passed, ignoring him as they went. Some people weren't from this world. Lance had to look over at them curiously. Were they newcomers too? Or were they offworlders about to continue their interstellar journey? For once, Lance wasn't causing any trouble as he sat on the railing next to the steps as he watched them. He didn't care how he looked to them. He had dirt here and there and his red hair was just a total mess. It was hard to believe he had bright, golden eyes underneath all of it. The most prominent feature on Lance, aside from his very unkempt appearance, were the scars on the right side of his face on his cheek. They were old but it was a sign that he had been through some rough times. It was an old injury from when someone made to slap him but grazed him badly with their nails instead when they missed smacking him.

And amidst the people going about their business - all the locals, the off-worlders, the foreigners - there walked a young man. He had a few distinguishing features - red eyes and his black hair specked with red - but other than that, he looked like a normal teenager. Well, one with perhaps a taste for more military clothing - black t-shirt and unzipped combat vest, with cargo pants and boots and fingerless black gloves. Nevertheless, people didn't pay him much heed. Perhaps a few cursory glances here or there but nothing they would really do much about. And even if they did, he didn't care. Matthias didn't wear these clothes to look good and get attention. He just felt comfortable in them.
No surprise, considering he was the Captain of the Harbinger Division in the Void army. Because of how the military structure was set up, that essentially meant he was the supreme commander of the whole army.
Although Matthias never tired thanks to his cyborg body, he was still weary. Weary of debating with his fellow commanders and his two extremely tenuous allies. Weary of having to consider all his strategies, the backup plans, and the backup to those backup plans. Most of all, he was weary of his purpose. He had devoted himself to saving all he could, to atone for everything he had done in the past. It would be a neverending task, and his immortal body would make sure he would continue following it no matter what. But still, that didn't mean he wasn't tired. He needed rest.
As he walked among the crowd, something drew his eye. Sitting on the railing was a boy - just entering adolescence by the look of him, though everything about him bespoke a hard life. His gold eyes held a mischievous but hard glint to them, and there were marks on the side of this face - possibly from claws? He seemed rather unkempt. Was he an orphan and cast out on to the streets? That seemed the most likely conclusion. Matthias turned away, sighing to himself. He used to have a loving family.... but those were the days when he turned to evil. He had ended up throwing that all away, and he truly regretted it. Still, there wasn't much he could do for the boy, most likely...
With that, he turned to continue walking.

Lance had no idea who these people were as he watched them walking along the District. Most didn't even pay him a glance. Whether or not they had seen him, they acted as if they didn't. As he sat there, Lance couldn't help but feel some sense of belonging. Well, of course, that only went so far for the young man. He could tell that he was being ignored entirely or that no one really noticed his presence. That is, except for one. It was easy for Lance to pinpoint considering all the others not even glancing in his direction. Sensing the other's gaze, Lance looked right back over at who was looking at him.
It was someone that wasn't like the rest. Lance could tell because he was looking at him. Most learned about Lance the minute they stepped onto this world. Once it was known, they avoided him like the plague. From what Lance could tell, he was someone about six to eight years older than he was. The way he was dressed was strange. Then again, most offworlders were strange. What really stood out to Lance was that the man appeared as if he had blood in his hair or something. Most of all, he had been looking in Lance's direction. For a moment, Lance furrowed his brows at him. A defiant glance. One that only a child would give to an adult.
This offworlder looked tired. Yet, there was something about him that seemed off. He looked real. Lance wasn't noticing him as anything unrealistic. It just seemed that he wasn't really all that human despite the way he looked. His hair made it look as if he had blood in his hair. Had he just returned from a battle or something? Maybe he was injured? Never the less, Lance was curious of him.
The offworlder had taken pause to look at Lance. Lance wasn't sure why but it looked like he was thinking something. Lance wondered what was going through his head. Maybe he was repulsed by what Lance's appearance? Whatever it was, the older boy turned as if to walk away. Lance couldn't help but feel a large surge of defiance. He really was a punk kid.
"Got a staring problem, old man?" Lance called out to him, loud enough for the other to hear him. Honestly, it was the only kind of attention that Lance was used to and got. He got attention by being a little hoodlum.

Got a staring problem, old man?
Matthias stopped for a second as the boy addressed him. Old man? He was only a few years older than he was - well, physically, anyway. He had been active for easily fifty years now, and that wasn't including the millenia he spent in a capsule... or before he was given his new body. Still, that mattered little. Matthias considered his tone and abrasiveness. Young, petulant, arrogant. It sounded much like a child who was given far too much freedom than he needed and was not given enough discipline. A side effect of having to live by oneself, no doubt. Still, he doubted it was his place to really criticize the child. He was just a wandering commander right now. No more, no less.
"It's nothing. You intrigued my curiosity is all," he replied. His tone and expression showed nothing. Nothing of what he was thinking, nothing of what he was really feeling. He was good at that, and the fact that he was a machine helped that fact even more. At any rate, there was no reason to tell the truth - it wasn't doing harm to either of them, and it wasn't like he was giving away information that he shouldn't. Still, the boy's gaze was defiant. He had a feeling that it wouldn't be the end of it, even if he wanted to leave or do something else. Still, it was worth a shot.
"I'm sorry if I've disturbed you. Good day." With that, he turned to leave.

Most people that were a few years of age older than Lance tended to get angry when he called them old. Physically, Lance knew he wasn't that much older than he. Yet, to push the other's buttons sounded like fun for the time being. Not only that but he was mildly curious of Matthias. No one really bothered to look in Lance's direction. Those that did in the past, he often did this sort of retaliation to see how they would react. Whenever they did that, people would either attack him or run. This guy wasn't running. So, he might be an attacker.
When the guy spoke, Lance furrowed a brow, crossing his arms as he had slid off the railing to land on his feet. Intrigued his curiosity?! His tone was bland and showed nothing of what he was thinking. Maybe a fight would break out? The thought sounded fun to Lance. Matthias was right in his observation of the young boy. He was used to a life of more freedom than he should have. A life without guidance to teach him what was proper and what was appropriate.
Then, Matthias did something that confused Lance. He had apologized for disturbing him and bade him a good day. With that, Matthias turned to leave. Lance looked dumbstruck. Matthias was right though, Lance wasn't going to leave it at that. He wouldn't admit it, unlike Matthias, but Lance was certainly curious of him. Poor Matthias had no idea what he had gotten himself into.
"The hell are you apologizin' for?" Lance said in confusion. Matthias seemed to just keep going. Lance followed him.

The hell are you apologizin' for?
Matthias blinked and looked at him again. The boy didn't seem annoyed or irritated, but... confused, like he had never been apologized to before, and especially not because he had been inconvenienced. Well, to be fair, to apologize like that to someone like that must not be easy, considering how aggressive he is. But still, Matthias saw no reason to be discourteous. A bit of politeness and respect often carried one far, no matter how high up in station they were. The fact that the boy looked genuinely confused at his apology meant that this lesson hadn't been taught to him yet. Well, he might as well explain. Not like it would harm him or anyone else.
"I'm merely apologizing for being bothering you," he explained. "It's simply good manners to do so, and shows respect." Well, that should cover it. He turned to walk away, but he had a feeling that this boy would be following him anyway. Maybe he should ask for his name.... well, he would if he continued to follow him. If the boy decided to just head off after that, well, no skin off his back. The boy lived how he chose. It wasn't the greatest thing, as he had no discipline whatsoever, but it was what it was.

Lance was genuinely confused about this older boy's behavior. No one ever apologized to Lance. Normally, he was cursed at or ignored entirely. Instead, this guy had apologized. The youth tilted his head to the side with an eyebrow quirked, a thoroughly puzzled expression written all over his face. Matthias was right in thinking that Lance had never been apologized to before. No, Lance certainly hadn't been taught about manners and definitely didn't know anything about apologizing.
The older guy went on to explain that he had apologized for bothering him. This puzzled Lance all the more. What he had said next was that it was simply good manners to do so and it showed respect. Why would anyone show Lance respect anyway? Just what was that word?
"You're...weird..." Lance stated, following Matthias for the moment only because he had managed to keep Lance interested in him for the time being. Of course, something that Matthias probably didn't care to do but had anyway. Now that the boy's curiosity had been sparked, it wouldn't be easy to get rid of him until the boy lost interest. He rarely got to talk much to others as well so this was also a rare thing for the young man. In a way, he sort of relished talking if only for a little bit.

You're...weird..
Matthias didn't answer. There was no need to. He knew he was an odd one, to be sure, but that didn't matter to him. Not too much, anyway. Quite honestly, there was a lot of things that were odd about him, and most of it not immediately visible. And it was the things that one could not see that made him truly strange... and dangerous. Still, there was little reason to show the boy. He was just someone who had happened to tag along - and apparently, his curiosity aroused, would not stop following him. He gave a small mental sigh. He figured as much. Such children were often curious about everything, not just him. Well, perhaps he would lose interest soon enough. But until then...
"If you are going to follow me," he said without preamble. "You might as well tell me who you are. What is your name?" His tone was again calm and devoid of any emotion. He had not turned toward the boy - the boy should know quite well he was being spoken to. He wondered if he would get an answer. He had not forgotten the petulance of the boy earlier, but perhaps by being courteous, he could disarm him and get him to answer without any of the rancor or harshness that he had developed. Well, maybe he was hoping too high...

Lance definitely found Matthias to be an oddball. For one, he wasn't chasing Lance away or saying anything to make the kid go away. Most tried to deter Lance following them around. Sometimes, they got aggressive enough to try to harm him out of annoyance. Yet, not this guy. Somehow, he managed to keep his cool despite Lance calling him weird. How could he not get worked up over such a remark? Where Lance was engaged with others, he was often getting yelled at. He often got others mad at him for the remarks he had made. This guy just seemed uncaring about what Lance had called him. How can he be so calm and not annoyed? Maybe he was just very good at hiding it? Who was this guy anyway and where did he come from?
Then, as they were walking, the elder boy seemed to know Lance had been following him when he suddenly spoke to him. Well, it wasn't like Lance was trying to hide that he was following him. It's just most ignored him after some exchange. Once again, this guy was odd to the boy. Why wasn't he ignoring him already? Yes, Lance was really confused. Most adults ignored him after a time and would refuse to speak anymore with him.
"...Hmph! If you must know, it's Lance!" Lance retorted, back to his punk-like attitude. "Who're you?"

...Hmph! If you must know, it's Lance! Who're you?
Well, back to that punk-like attitude. Somehow, Matthias wasn't surprised. A bit of good manners wouldn't be enough to completely disarm such a person and make him polite, but at least he answered. He could've just refused to answer and be defiant. But he did answer, and he gave him his name. Well, that was a start. At least they could be civil to each other (more or less) and didn't have to address each other in odd ways. Lance seemed to be more and more confused as he followed him - possibly from how passive Matthias seemed to be. Quite honestly, after all the war he had seen, all the suffering he had caused, all the pain he had inflicted, he had little appetite to be aggressive, particularly not for such a petty reason.
"A pleasure to meet you, Lance -" Suddenly, Matthias froze. His ears were picking up... screams. Of fear and panic. He turned his head in the direction as his eyes switched modes... and he could see the aura of darkness spreading out. He silently cursed. Heartless. Figures they would attack. He looked around, but it didn't seem like Traverse Town's normal guardians were about. If he was the only one in the area that could fight them off, so be it. He drew a small metallic cylindrical object from his belt and said to Lance, "Get away from this area immediately." With that, he dashed off in the direction of the heartless.
No one would suffer under his watch.

It was true, Lance could have decided against answering the adult's question. However, that thought hadn't occurred to him. On top of it, Lance was curious of Matthias so naturally, he'd want to talk to him a bit more although he didn't seem it. Lance's usual demeanor was to make it seem as if he didn't care about anything. In actuality, he did. The boy just kept things hidden from the outside world. He was used to bottling things up and hiding what he really thought. No one just bothered to get near enough to learn more of him. Then again, why should it matter? No one cared.
What came next, Lance couldn't have been prepared for it. This adult somehow thought it was a pleasure to meet Lance. How could anyone think such a thing was a pleasure?! Lace rubbed the back of his head, furrowing a brow at Matthias, all the more confused by this adult's behavior. Shouldn't he be screaming at him by now or trying to hit Lance? What was stranger is that the adult had abruptly cut himself short, looking in some sort of direction. Furrowing his brows, Lance warily glanced toward where he was looking. Maybe this was where he'd get smacked?
Then, without warning, the strange adult pulled something out. Just what the heck was that thing? As he did so, he told Lance to leave the area immediately. Of course, common sense would have told Matthias that Lance wouldn't listen to him. Not after doing something like that. Naturally, children got curious whenever adults were running off toward something without any explanation. Even with an explanation, the curiosity of a child was not something easily deterred and they often disobeyed the adult.
"Huh? HEY!" Lance called but the other had already taken off. Not easily dissuaded, Lance followed after Matthias. By the time the kid would catch up, he would see a horde of Heartless. They were attacking people in the street and there was quite a large number of them. Lance rose his brows. He remembered those things. Furrowing his brow, Lance gave the nearest one a flat look before extending his arm and opening up his hand to summon the keyblade he now had in his possession. In a flash of light, the keyblade appeared in his right hand. Immediately, the creature near him did a double take and cringed away.
"So I meet you buttheads again!" Lance stated, annoyed.

So the boy followed him even into this mess. Why was he not surprised in the slightest...? Well, he seemed to have a keyblade, so hopefully he knew how to handle himself. There were a large amount of heartless, but nothing he couldn't particularly handle. They were many but weak. Clicking a button, he activated his beam saber. The blade hissed out, humming quietly as Matthias readied himself. His scanners began targeting each individual heartless that were coming and going. He had to give priority to the ones about to attack innocents, but thankfully it seemed almost all of them had vacated the area. Well, this would be easier than he thought.
The heartless began charging and he burst into action. Dashing forward, a horizontal swipe cleaved a heartless in two. As to more began approaching him, a backhand to one and a slice to another took care of them. There wasn't much finesse to Matthias's fighting style, but one word could definitely be used to describe it: Efficient. Matthias was the captain of a large military, after all, and when it came to military, elegance and style were shoved aside for practicality and pragmatism. That was what a soldier needed to be. That was what a commander needed to be. He wasted no unnecessary moves, keeping his movements tight and contained, using them only as needed. It was extremely effective as the heartless could never seem to get close to him no matter how they approached. He always had an answer.
He was the Captain of the Harbinger Division. Such opponents and fights were pretty much trivial for him.

Lance hadn't seen any other type of Heartless since living in Traverse Town. He had only ever experienced running into the weaker ones. The more powerful ones hadn't bothered with Lance just yet. He always stuck to the safer District, after all. Which was probably for the best. If Lance wandered further out, he wouldn't have survived for this long.
The Heartless eventually turned on Lance. Those that had been able to sense the young keyblader's inexperience soon gained enough confidence to turn and lunge for him. Lance, of course, didn't know how to fend for himself. He thought he could but he really didn't. He made a clumsy swing. If it weren't for the keyblade jerking his wrist at that very moment, he could have lost his heart right then and there.
From that point on, it became more apparent that although Lance was throwing swings, the weapon itself was doing all of the work. It always just narrowly saved Lance too. Anyone that observed Lance would notice immediately that if the weapon were to make a mistake, Lance would be dead instantly. Such a thing with the keyblade should only be one of the last resorts and not something one always relied on like Lance was doing. He should really learn how to fight.

At Matthias fought, he spared a glance at Lance and instantly realized he should've gotten the kid far away first before he leaped into the fray. He swings were clumsy and slow - the sign of an inexperienced novice, if even that. His movements also seemed to be jerky rather than fluid, though said movements seemed to at least save him. A moment of observation more and he rapidly realized what was going on: The keyblade was moving of its own will, defending Lance from the heartless and having him strike them down in turn. Lance was merely a conduit, and a very weak one at that.
Well, no matter. It was only weak heartless. As long as it stayed that way, Lance should be fine. Matthias turned his attention back to the heartless. Grabbing one that tried to leap at him, he threw him straight at another one, bowling both of them over. The force of the throw caused both of them to dissipate after landing. Once the heartless were dispatched with - the majority having been taken care of by Matthias - Matthias checked his surroundings to make sure that there weren't any more in the wings or had gotten away. After both his eyes and sensors indicated to him that the coast was clear, he pushed the button once more on his beam saber, causing the laser blade to withdraw back into his hilt.
With a sigh, he sheathed it and continued walked. Really, was there anywhere he could go without fighting? He didn't really even check on Lance, but he was quite sure he was fine. The keyblade seemed to know what it was doing and it was only bottom level heartless anyway.

Lance didn't realize he was being watched. If anything, he felt the keyblade moving of its own accord. Never the less, the Heartless that were trying to get him were getting killed. It inflated the kid's ego. It made him feel invincible where he should feel uneasy. After all, nothing good ever comes out of a weapon running the show all the time. If this kept up, it would be the weapon that was the warrior and not the one that holds it. Yet, this weapon had chosen Lance. Surely, there had to be something about him that made it choose him out of the others it could have picked to wield it instead.
Eventually, the creatures had dwindled in number and then were gone entirely. It really did look as though they had won. "Wait, that's it? That's all there is?" Lance exclaimed but no one seemed to hear him or pay him any mind. While Lance caste a glance in Matthias's direction, he saw him leaving. Well, he guessed that was the end of it. They wouldn't see each other again and Lance would be left to fend for himself with no guidance and be forever a punk never to amount to anything.
Then, it happened. The weapon in Lance's hand started going ballistic. It hadn't left after that battle. Normally, it would disperse but it hadn't. It was now frantically jerking at Lance's arm off to the side. As he struggled to hang onto it and not lose his balance, only then did he see why it was acting up. Having turned to get a better hold of the weapon, Lance spotted a large, dark mass rising up into the sky. Lance's golden eyes widened as he saw the largest Heartless ever appear before him.
"Whoa! That's a big one!" Lance exclaimed. Nope, the battle certainly wasn't over as a Darkside loomed threateningly over those around it, especially the keyblade wielding boy, whom seemed to be its intended target.

And just then, Matthias's sensors suddenly began popping up warnings as the energy readings began spiking. Matthias blinked in surprise and turned. He and Lance HAD to tempt fate, didn't they. A heartless was forming, much bigger than any of the heartless they were facing before - a giant. He swore. A Darkside. This was truly not good. The Darkside was one of the more powerful heartless out there. For it to show up in Traverse Town was exceptionally uncommon - there had to have been circumstances. Perhaps it was simply bad luck? Whatever the case, it needed to be swiftly dispatched.
A quick look at the situation had him realize that its target was Lance - the keyblade must have made him quite the prospective target for now small number of heartless, including the Darkside. Whether the keyblade could react to the Darkside or not, that did not change the fact that Lance was just an ordinary boy with no combat skills or training whatsoever - he would get himself smashed into paste. As the Darkside raised its fist to smash Lance into the ground, Matthias dashed forward, shoving him out of the way before the fist came down, leaving a crater. That was too close for comfort. "Get out of here!" he ordered before he leaped into action. Rocket flames burst from his feet as he launched himself into the air, then he burst into flames and rammed himself into the Darkside's chest, throwing it off balance. Before it could recover, he flew back up and cast a giant fireball in its face, the explosion toppling over.
This needed to be handled decisively and quickly...

Lance couldn't help but look up at the massive creature. He hadn't seen anything like it before. No doubt, this one was mad about its smaller friends being killed. At least, that's the first thought that had popped into Lance's mind. The keyblade was jerking Lance's arm, trying to indicate for him to head toward the thing. Honestly, Lance would rather be running away from the large beast.
Then, the thing turned and looked like it was about to smoosh him like a bug. Before that could happen, Lance suddenly felt himself being pushed aside roughly just before the thing could smash him. Lance shook his head, hearing someone yell at him to leave. As he recovered, Lance soon realized that someone had just saved his life. Blinking, he found it had been that strange offworlder who had rescued him and was now engaging the monster Heartless in battle. His strikes were powerful but the thing didn't look like it was finished.
Since Lance was not the obedient type, such an order would not make him obey. Even if logically the best idea would be to turn and run, Lance wasn't going to. He had wanted to earlier but now that someone was telling him to run, he defied them by not doing so. He always had to go against others for some reason.
"I'm not running away like some coward!" Lance retorted.
The Darkside recovered from the hits that Matthias had made, letting its hands sink into the ground. As it did so, the darkness shrouded the ground and out of it came many Shadow Heartless. This fight just went from bad to worse.

I'm not running away like some coward!
That damned colossal fool! This was not a matter of bravery - this was a matter of common sense! And besides, there was a very thin line between bravery and stupidity - Lance had obviously went over to the side of stupidity and was going to stay there. And just when things couldn't get any worse, the Darkside sank its hands into the ground, summoning an entire army of Shadow heartless. Matthias swore. There was absolutely no way he could deal with a Darkside, that many Shadow heartless, and defend Lance at the same time! At least, not like this. His first matter at hand, though, was getting Lance out of here.
"You either run now or you die," he barked. "YOUR CHOICE." With that, his arm transformed into an energy cannon. Charging up his cannon, he fired a large blast at the the Shadow heartless, taking out a large swathe of them. Then he reared his head back before launching a powerful gout of black-and-red fire from his mouth directly at the Darkside's head. He couldn't afford to play around. He still had one last trump card to play if the situation got any more dire. As it was now, it was still manageable, somewhat. He just hoped Lance would actually leave before he got himself killed.

Of course, Lance was an idiot. He was a kid. Since he was a kid that normally didn't listen to adults, of course he was going to disobey anything Matthias said. He didn't know any better. He wasn't an adult, who would have been much wiser from experience and years of learned knowledge. Lance lacked that because he was young. For the moment, it was stupid bravery. At least, Lance was trying to appear as if he were brave and thought of himself as tough. He didn't see this situation as something that could get him killed. He knew that it was dangerous but Lance didn't think he could die. That thought never occurred to him.
Matthias shouted down at him, Lance furrowing his brows at the now cranky adult. Like he was going to listen to him! He wasn't his boss! Lance defiantly turned away from Matthias to look at the Heartless. There were now a large number of Shadow Heartless plus the Darkside still being there. It wasn't the Shadow Heartless that Lance was worried about, since they were taken out considerably from an attack that had to have been done by Matthias. Lance didn't really have time to check since the Darkside had turned its attention onto Lance once more and started to advance toward him.
The keyblade jerked at Lance's arm but there was something that overcame Lance at that very moment. Instead of letting the keyblade run the show, a large part of Lance resisted it and remained rooted to the spot for a moment. His eyes widened with unmistakable fear. What Matthias did next, hitting the Darkside in the head with an attack, had snapped Lance out of it. With a glance toward what was happening, Lance turned and ran. The Darkside wasn't finished yet. It fell but then sunk into the ground. It re-emerged in front of Lance, whom had been running away from the scene, forcing the kid to come to a skidding halt.

Matthias scowled. Great. The kid was now paralyzed by fear. Fear was a necessary ingredient for any warrior, but novice fighters and ordinary people let fear rule over them. Such was the case here, but luckily, he snapped out of it in time to run like hell. Unfortunately, it was far too little and far too late. The Darkside had its sights set on Lance, and wasn't going to let go of him any time soon. Oh, this was not good. With an opponent of that size that can summon that many smaller heartless, he was going to have his hands full. He couldn't protect Lance at the same time. Not like this.
Well, there was only one option now.
Matthias flew straight at the Darkside, and as he did so, he was engulfed in his flames once more. This time, however, the inferno grew larger and larger until it seemed like a comet was flying towards the Darkside. Finally, when it crashed against the Darkside, sending it flying back and smashing through the streets and several buildings, the inferno dispersed, revealing not Matthias, but a massive golden dragon. It definitely didn't look like a classic dragon, with its extremely long limbs, booster rockets instead of wings, long, slim body, and bladed forelegs, but it was a dragon nevertheless. The red, glowing eyes made it look almost malevolent, but that was the way it was. The dragon was still Matthias, and Matthias wasn't evil.
After all, he only assumed this form to protect Lance in the first place.
