~ APPEARANCE ~Setsuna is practically defined by his unnaturally messy dark brown hair. It sticks out in every direction and refuses to cooperate with brushes or gels, essentially giving him perpetual bedhead. In recent years he has taken to wearing it at a longer length than he would normally considerable acceptable; thus, the tips of these spikes just barely graze the nape of his neck. So dark is the color of his hair that it looks black to the naked eye on most days, only displayed hints of chocolate brown when exposed to brilliant sunlight. Though his ever-relaxed expressions, small nose, and lips set firm and unmoving are often seen as his defining and unique characteristics, it's Setsuna's eyes that truly make him stand out - for Setsuna's eyes are black.
Not a dark grey masquerading as black, nor a deep mahogany, but a true abyss of color that can only be seen by staring into an vacant, starless sky. They seem to sparkle with the same lighthearted and careless attitude he wields, reflecting his mischievous and playful persona whilst conveying his unshakable confidence and unstoppable force of will. Even on the brightest of the days with the blazing sun at its zenith, Setsuna's eyes remain deep and unnerving.
However, these eyes are not unchanging. Setsuna's body is deeply attuned to magic, to the point where it isn't outlandish to consider him an living embodiment of mana itself. With all this power came the ability to change his eyes into something that allows him to reprieve magic in its truest form, causing deep onyx to burn away in favor of an all-consuming luminescent cobalt inscribed with countless circles of mystic runes. These glow orbs normally remain dormant, awakening of their own accord when Setsuna manipulates his own magic or when magic is used in his vicinity.
Despite the many long days he spends out in the sunlight, his skin still sports a near-alabaster hue reminiscent of one who spends their life within the confines of their home. Setsuna stands slightly above the average height for his gender and is only a few hairs short of 6’ without his shoes on (something that infuriates him to no end, rest assured). His intensive workouts tend to keep him from gaining weight, while at the same time maintaining around the same amount of muscle. The other fact contributing to this lack of growth is his metabolism – it’s obscenely fast, to the point where it's almost a struggle for him to eat enough to keep from losing weight.
His taste in clothes reflects his lax nature. Around his waste hang loose-fitting black slacks, perfectly ironed and held tight by a thick leather belt with a heavy, yet simplistic, metal buckle. Collared button-ups cling to his torso, usually with the top few buttons undone to reveal his prominent collarbones. Atop such shirts is a dark vest, buttoned up perfectly and holding the shirt tight against his midriff. Lastly, he dons a long, black trench coat, oftentimes complimented by a slim black tie hanging loose around his neck. The only visible accessory that hints to his life as a fighter is a leather strap, stained deep mahogany and looped diagonally across around his torso and over his right shoulder.~ PERSONALITY ~In his heart, Setsuna will always be a person who'd rather be on his back in the green or in a tree, watching the clouds. When not confronted with the few things that trigger his temper, such as ignorance and overconfidence, Setsuna is just your average relaxed guy. He loves to joke around, to run about in the wild whilst adrenaline pounds through his veins. Nothing makes this man happier than the opportunity to just get away from the drama and politics of life and to simply, as he so eloquently puts it, "chill out."
One might assume that this dreaming nature would make Setsuna a peaceful person, but said individuals might be shocked to learn of his behavior. To the contrary, his fondness of relaxation drives him to complete his goals as expediently as possible by most any means necessary. He has few compunctions when working to accomplish a mission so long as his actions result in a speedy completion of the job's parameters. He'll intimidate, steal, plant false evidence, bribe, even impersonate important economic and political figures - anything it takes to get the job done, no matter how cold-blooded or selfish. The only thing that might make him think twice before making a cold-blooded decision would be the wisdom of the action from a greater perspective. Whilst placing the blame for a string of murders on the local ex-gang member would certainly be easier than tracking down the killer, should the murders continue Setsuna would find his ass over the fire in a matter of hours.
This isn't to say Setsuna is ruthless, though those who witness his methods in the field would certainly beg to differ at first. Oh sure, from an outsiders perspective some of his actions can seem a little overkill at times, but that by no means indicates that he enjoys it. Whilst he undoubtedly has the potential to be ruthless, he rarely finds himself in situations where such behaviors or decisions become absolutely necessary. No, Setsuna simply attempts to approach his life in the most direct and efficient way possible. However, in order to do so, he must take into account every possible consequence of his actions, both the earth-shattering and the minute.
Say he found a wall blocking the route between his current location and his favorite noodle stand. If for some reason the entirety of the local law enforcement was out on a donut break, he'd carve himself his own entrance with one of his trusty blades in the blink of an eye, and gorge himself on deep friend goodness until his arteries clogged up with fat and pure, unadulterated bliss. However, if there were anbu or some particularly meddling pedestrians around, he would have to make a decision. Would a bowl of the world's finest noodle soup be worth a night wasted in a holding cell? Would it be worth scaring the living crap out of some nearby toddler and potentially scarring him/her/it for life? Most importantly, would it be worth whatever damages he had to pay the village for casually destroying architecture for his own pleasure?
In a perfect world, the answer to these riddles would be a resounding yes; after all, food is one of mankind's most basic needs, and good food is without a doubt at the very top of Setuna's list of favorite things in life. But alas, Setsuna does not live in a perfect world. He only has so many years left to spend on this earth, only so much money to spend on trivial matters. More importantly, he'd rather not have some emotionally-crippled survivors dedicating their lives to getting even for years of straight-jackets and therapy. Thus more often than not Setsuna would instead have to opt for climbing over said wall or, if he was feeling particularly lazy, walking around it like a peasant
Keeping in line with his relaxed attitude and love of peace and quiet, Setsuna is not one to draw attention to himself. In fact he goes to great lengths to avoid being recognized, as is a constant concern in his life as a wanderer. His presence in other worlds might arouse concern or unwanted attention if he wore a particularly identifiable style of clothing, after all.
Setsuna's only real goal is to get the most out of life by cramming in as many good memories and laughs as possible before he winding up on his deathbed. He loves to laugh and make others laugh alongside him, poking fun at friends and strangers alike. As such, his more serious demeanor is often overshadowed by a playful persona that pokes fun at everything and everyone he comes across. If he finds a situation amusing himself, he might take his antics so far that other parties involved might actually question his sanity. He'll taunt his foes with ridiculous insults and threats so horrendously violent one might mistake the brunette for a psychopath; more often than not, his rather.... creative threats of violence have been enough to subdue the enemy without resorting to extortion or actual combat.
Despite the impression he might give others, Setsuna is more than just a guy who enjoys his spare time and napping. After all, one does not survive long in the universe without a keen mind, much less become a powerhouse by putting forth the bare-minimum amount of effort. Setsuna doesn't half ass anything - when he puts his mind to something, he sees it through to the very end no matter the cost. Setsuna's ability to approach situations from a calm, logical point of view is the driving force behind much of his success throughout his career. It is this rational approach that motivates him to train when he'd rather sleep in, and that has driven him to the echelon of power he currently occupies. Calling him a “genius” in the traditional sense would be a stretch by any definition of the word; he’s gotten through life so far through a combination of hard work and sheer luck, and his self-proclaimed "ridiculous" affinity for the magical arts.
Setsuna possesses an astonishing capacity to reason through problems in order to find solutions. His ability to link together concepts – known as ideaphoria, the transition between one’s ideas – allows him to progress through his thought process at incredible speeds. This capacity to rapidly organize and “evolve” his train of thought imparts unto him analytical skills that allow Setsuna to approach a problem from several distinctly different viewpoints simultaneously. His capacity for rapid idea development is what allows the man to effectively use his “don’t look, just jump” style of problem solving; he can whip up a multitude of responses to changes in his environment with virtually zero lag-time. In the span of mere seconds he can combine observations about his current situation with a lifetime of experience, and generate a multitude of possible conclusions, courses of actions, and defining factors that shape the outcome of a bad situation. Even against foes whose abilities place Setsuna at a disadvantage, he can use his quick-thinking and wit (and not a small number of duplicates) to turn the tide in his favor.
Of course, Setsuna's method of internalizing information and solving problems is not without flaws. His ability to generate and build on connections between concepts also causes him to be a bit of an airhead at times. In the middle of a conversation he can unknowingly latch onto a single concept and run with it, whilst accidentally tuning out everything else and losing himself to his thoughts. The frequency with which Setsuna loses himself to his thoughts causes many to see him as somewhat rude, perhaps not unjustifiably so. More importantly, Setsuna's more developed mental skills are so advanced that he quickly becomes impatient with those who are incapable of keeping up with him. He has difficulty empathizing with such individuals (any most people in general, truth be told), usually considering problems that sch individuals might struggle with child's play. While aware of this rather undesirable trait, Setsuna simply can't help himself. The man is well aware of the fact he's no natural-born genius, but when surrounded by those whom he could classify as "stupid" or "slow" he can't help but feel aggravated
Further building on his rational, borderline scientific, style of problem solving, Setsuna is set in the belief mankind will never look at situations rationally and will - always and inevitably - resort to violence to resolve conflict. In his youth, he was told that stealth and subterfuge would his greatest asset if he meant to survive beyod his teenage years. Yet it took him only a matter of weeks to realize that these stealth-based skills were almost universally pushed to the side by the way of the world in favor of brute force and powerful, flashy manipulations of the elements. Most of the time Setsuna manages to keep this cynical part of his persona under wraps, only emerging through his sarcastic quips and snide remarks when confronted with idiocy.
When pushed to the edge of his tolerance for bullshit, idiocy, and disrespectful behavior, Setsuna can snap. While he doesn't start screaming and breaking inanimate objects, Setsuna's temper is none the less an intimidating force to witness. His entire demeanor changes in an instant: his relaxed posture is replaced by an intense expression and taut shoulders, his easy-going voice drops a to a deep, perfectly-balanced tone, and strong of explicit language roll off his tongue like thick droplets of honey.
Deep down, behind his sometimes questionable morals and "excessive" actions, Setsuna is a good guy. He is completely honest about everything he says and does, no matter what the consequences might be. His methods are questionable, but everything he does is done with a good intention in mind. When he steals, when he lies or fights, he only does so out of his overpowering desire to find a moment's respite from his chaotic life - even if it's only for a few minutes. While he often plays the fool and acts in a matter unbefitting one of his actual age, hidden amidst his antics the careful observer can catch glimpses of a skillful and brilliant soul who seeks nothing more than the next moment's respite.
||~ CHECK OUT MY SKILLZ ~||
~ ABILITIES ~i. Eyes of the Elder Gods [passive]The final gift imparted to Setsuna during his time as a magical guinea pig, requiring he have his own eyes removed so that these could take their place. When they awaken - be it of his own will or when magic is used by him or another in his presence - these artifacts grant him a supernatural level of visual perception unmatched by any mortal eye. Simultaneously these artifacts cause great pain for the user, with extended manifestation causing bleeding from their eyes and gradual desegregation in visual clarity. Actively drawing on their powers for too long can cause the artifacts to shut down, rendering the host blinded until the eyes have had time to 'cool down'.ii. Emperor of Arms [passive]
On the more mundane side of the spectrum these eyes enable something akin to telescopic vision, allowing him to observe something as small as bacteria or view objects hundreds of miles away as if they were right in front of him - assuming no obstacles obstruct his line of sight. More impressive are the slew of magical abilities they provide; when drawing on these powers, glowing rings of magic appear in front of his eyes like mystical lenses, rotating in midair and emblazoned with all manner of glowing sigils. When manifesting these powers Setsuna can literally see the hearts of others; they appear as glowing masses in their chests, ranging from an almost blindly pearly white to a deep abyss devoid of all colors save an endless black depending on their alignment and presonality.
Setsuna can perceive magic in its rawest form; he can see just how much mana a being or object contains, which allows him to predict when they are about to cast a spell by watching them 'gather' their magical power and shape it to their will. While this function of the eyes does not allow him to predict the nature of a spell upon first witnessing it, after a few repeated exposures he can usually take note of the minute details in how someone manipulates their magic to perform a specific spell or ability.
These artifacts permit Setsuna to see the 'truth' of all things - he can not only see through illusions, but can cast his gaze to the very depths of another's heart and sole itself. Direct eye contact with another allows him to form a sort of visual bond with the opposing party, peering into the memories and reliving their past in his mind's eyes as if he were in their shoes. These memories are relived in vivid detail, to the point where any physical or emotional trauma experienced within them can drastically affect Setsuna's physical and mental health. Exposure to strong enough memories can actually alter the balance of Setsuna's heart and his perception of the world, pushing him closer to embracing the darkness or up towards the light.
The reverse is also possible, allowing him to force the opposite party to relive his own memories as if they were their own. The effect of Setsuna's memories on other is significantly muted; they process these past experiences as if they were watching TV, thus even the most traumatizing moment's of his past can cause nothing more than short-lived confusion and bewilderment. Viewing and transferring memories in this way requires a few moments of prolonged eye contact to establish a connection, thus making full use of this feature near-impossible when in stressful or rushed situations.
Attempting to transfer these artifacts to another from a living host will cause both to violently detonate, even if one remains in the victims head. They can only be safely removed if the host is deceased and enough time is given for the eyes to drain the remnants of the former host's magical power and enter a deactivated state. In theory Setsuna could survive having an eye removed while still alive due to his regenerative traits, though in practice the chances are slim-to-none and require use of complicated protective magics. The bizzare nature of the unique mana permeating his body has altered Setsuna's physical composition, granting him physical abilities near the zenith of what the average human is capable of achieving - which he takes full advantage of on the battlefield. He employs lightning-quick sword blows alongside savage punches strikes, underhanded shots from his gunblade, and brutish magical tactics, overwhelming his foes through his a combination of sheer tenacity and crippling injuries. When in close-range combat Setsuna is near-unstoppable, combining his prowess with weaponry with a powerful physique and unpredictable tactical maneuvers. In short Setsuna is a skilled close-quarter combatant, and while he lacks the superhuman physical might of his peers, is more than capable of using talent in conjunction with clever tactics to seize victory.iii. Weave a Web of Steel [cooldown, 2 posts]Setsuna's sword lashes out to deflect a single melee attack. This strike happens so quickly and so forcefully that it knocks the foe off balance, sending them stumbling backwards a few paces. Taking advantage of this opening Setsuna delivers a quick triplet of strikes with his blade that each deal minor damage in an attempt to overwhelm his foe with sheer speed. He finishes this strong of blows by leaving his blade poised to strike; if the target attempts to attack Setsuna or move outside his melee reach, he instinctively lashes out in a counterattack aimed to knock the target's weapon out of their hands. Alternatively this final blow can be aimed to deal moderate damage to the target, dealing enough force to knock them prone.iv. Sundering Blow [cooldown, 3 posts]This simple slash is meant to sever incoming threats with the cutting edge of one's sword, inspired by the way in which boulders can part a river's current. A precisely timed slash combined with inhuman percision cleaves through mundane metals, stone, even bullets; the force of this attack alters the trajectory of projectiles struck with this blow, sending the severed halves to either side of Setsuna and leaving him untouched. This slash is not limited to protecting him from mundane weaponry; projectiles forged from magic – be they fireballs, streams of water, or other manipulations of natural forces – can also be torn in half by the cutting edge of his sword. However, doing so can be considerably more difficult than sundering traditional substances, and as such can leave his weapons in a damaged and brittle state, if not outright shattered or rendered a melted, twisted wreck. The sheer power behind this blow additionally allows Setsuna to use it offensively, cleaving through obstacles standing between him and his end goal.
v. Army of One [duplicates, 3 | range, 5 meters | cooldown, 5 posts]Setsuna is able to form sentient magical duplicates of himself, which contains only enough power to sustain themselves for a few seconds before seemingly melting into a thick black mist. These replicas are near identical to himself save for their glowing eyes, and possess strength and speed on-par with that of their creator's base abilities. While they cannot use any of Setsuna's spells or abilities that require the creation of additional clones, they are however equipped with magical copies of any weapons he possesses. The only exception to this is his eyes - each clone possesses a false copy of the Eyes of the Elder Gods, which allows Setsuna to observe their fields of view as if they were his own, though each clone can only see from their own perspective. Note that each replica can be destroyed prematurely by a moderately powerful attack, so when acting as meat shields they are best used to slow an opponent's momentum or to divert the bulk of an attack's force. Clones summoned through this technique last until they are either destroyed or dispelled by Setsuna; all active clones are dispelled if Setsuna loses consciousness.vi. Stunt Double [duplicates, 1 per post | range, 5 meters ]
Ability will be upgraded over time to produce more clones simultaneously. Cooldown is not applicable when used outside of combat; the number of active clones will be reduced to 3 when entering combat. In exchange for using significantly less power, Setsuna is able to summon a much shorter-lived clone far more frequently. Clones created through this technique only exist long enough for Setsuna to issue a single command, be it slashing at a foe with a shadowy copy of his blades, acting as a meat-shield to protect him from harm, or acting as a platform in midair for Setsuna to propel himself from. The clone created by this technique disappears at the beginning of his next post, unless otherwise destroyed prematurely. The ease with which Setsuna can cast this spell allows him to use another spell, ability, or basic attack during the same post; it is a supplementary ability, meant to enhance the rest of his skill set as opposed to a dedicated attack. The clone produced by this technique is even more fragile than those made by Army of One; an average punch is powerful enough to plow through them and continue onto attack Setsuna with only moderate loss in strength.vii. Self-Destructive Tendencies [cooldown, 2 posts]By destroying one of his active clones Setsuna is able to move to that clone's location, converting his entire body into a mass of sentient magical energy that moves faster than the eye can travel. To the naked eye it appears as if Setsuna teleports and emerges from the still-exploding body of his duplicate. The destruction of this clone us releases a visible pulse of magical energy, impairing the vision of any onlookers during their next post and inflicting minor concussive damage to anything within arm's reach.viii. Multiple Personalities [cooldown, 3 posts]Setsuna has the ability to magically spit his body into three clones half his size, which merge back together to recreate his normal form at the beginning of his next post. This allows him to quickly avoid attacks that he otherwise would not have time to dodge, or to reduce the extent of his injury. Any injuries the replicas suffer are transferred to him upon reforming at 1/3 of the severity; for example, a deep gouge on one of these clone's arms manifests as a shallow gash in the same spot upon returning to normal. However, if all 3 clones suffered the same gouge, Setsuna's injury would mimic his clones' in severity. Alternatively, this skill can also be used offensively, allowing him to deal 3 attacks in a single instant to weave his way past an opponent's defenses. Note that each clone produced through this technique cannot use spells or abilities, and has only one-third of Setsuna's physical capabilities.ix. Circle Jerk [cooldown, 3 posts]A total of six replicas manifest in tight ring circling a foe at the snap of Setsuna's fingers. The clones each proceed to deliver a single melee blow one at a time, with enough force to cause moderate damage and propel the target towards another clone. This process repeats until the final clone finishes the attack, bouncing the victim back and forth between clones like a pinball rebounding off obstacles. Immediately after the final clone's attack, or upon the victim managing to block or dodge an attack, Setsuna's drops in from above to deliver a heavily damaging blow to his victim that leaves the victim stunned for 2 posts, moderately reducing their reaction times and ability to concentrate. These replicas disappear after delivering their individual attack.~ SPELLS ~
i. Fire || Stop Hitting Yourself [range, 8 meters | cooldown, 2 posts]Infusing his hand with raw mana Setsuna punches towards the sky and summons one of his clones, which promptly catches fire. He then grabs this panicking, smoldering replica by the ankle and swings it full-force towards his foe, either wielding it like a humanoid mace or or hurling it through the air as an improvised projectile. Upon colliding with a solid surface this clone detonates, dealing moderate fire-element damage in a 2-meter radius around the the point of impact and enough concussive force to throw anyone caught in the blast back a few meters. This blast ignites any targets and combustibles as well, inflicting minor fire-element damage at the beginning of victims' posts until they extinguish the flames; as these flames as mundane, doing so is a relatively simple task.
ii. Blizzard || Kick the Baby [range, 20 meters | cooldown, 3 posts]Setsuna summons a rather special clone, which immediately tries to flee from its creator in terror. Before it can escape its creator punts it full-force, launching it through the air like a missile (albeit a sobbing and hysterical one) towards his foe. While flying forward the clone completely freezes over into a human popsicle, only to violently detonate upon impacting a solid object in a flurry of chilled winds and jagged ice shards. This icy explosion deals moderate blizzard-element damage stretching out over a 3-meter radius and freezes victims solid for 1 post, completely immobilizing them unless they can thaw themselves or possess enough physical might of break free of their icy shell. The jagged, frozen remains of the clone additionally lacerate flesh, causing victims to suffer minor bleeding damage at the beginning of each of their posts until receiving medical treatment.iii. Thunder || Shock and Awe [range, 15 meters | cooldown, 4 posts]Channeling the power of electricity, Setsuna creates and hurls a terrified clone infused with thunder-element magic like a discuss a short distance. Upon colliding with a solid object this clone breaks apart and reforms into a total of 10 clones standing half the height of the original. A torrent of lightning leaps between these violently-convulsing clones, creating an electrified field over a 5-meter radius. This area sustains itself for 3 posts, during which it attempts to electrocute anything within it (excluding Setsuna), dealing moderate thunder-element damage with enough voltage to leave foes near-paralyzed during their next post; while not rendered completely immobile, victims have severe difficulty moving or reacting in a timely manner from this effect. The damage suffered from this technique doubles with each successive post victims spent in this zone, as well as compounding the psuedo-paralysis effect to the point of leaving the victim completely immobilized.~ RACIAL TRAIT ~Warfare Undying [passive]Setsuna’s tainted magic has mutated his body to the point where it permeates the base essence of his being, and actively attempts to reconstruct any damage he suffers. This healing causes ethereal blue light to emanate from his injuries, resulting to his nickname as "The Blue" in some circles. It takes him one post to heal from minor wounds, three posts for moderate wounds, five posts for more serious injuries, and ten posts to regenerate missing limbs and severe mass bodily trauma. He can only heal one injury at a time; e.g. if he has two minor injuries and one serious, it will take him a total of seven posts to completely recover from all three wounds. Note that when outside combat the length of time required for injuries to heal is reduced by half, rounded down.
Despite this ability, Setsuna is far from immortal. Accumulating significant injuries rapidly will put him down just like anyone else, though admittedly with increased difficulty. He is vulnerable to diseases, infections, and poison, and is still very much mortal when faced with drowning alive. This regenerative process is extremely taxing as well; regrowing an entire limb might save him in the long term, but the process can leave his mana reserves depleted and sap him of all but a shred of his stamina when already under stress. Note that this ability causes a violent reaction to any external methods of healing applied to Setsuna, resulting in him suffering an injury equal in severity to the amount of damage that would have been healed.~ WEAPONS ~Sodaigomi ("Oversized Garbage")Unusual in both terms of size and structure, Sodaigomi is nevertheless a masterful weapon to behold. The meter-long blade easily is forged from pearlescent steel which has yet to be marred from its many years of combat. Embossed over-top the rain guard at the base of the blade lays a triangular design, featuring intricate golden inlay edges that wrap around a core of solid, jet-black onyx polished to a mirror-like sheen. Whilst the shape of this blade suggests that the smith intended a broadsword-like design choice, the weapon’s cross-guard is usually short. Sodaigomi’s guard only extends roughly two inches on either side of the blade’s cutting edge, constructing from the same steel used for the actual blade. The hilt half-meter hilt is wrapped tightly in a length of rusted-red cloth, ending with a followed-out circular loop of steel in place of a more traditional pommel design. The sword extracts the user's magic, and uses that power to create an extended blade of magical energy around the original that drastically enhances its slicing power. This energy blade extends six inches out from each side of the sword, and leaves a fading path in the air when swung. Because of this, enemies running into an area where the sword was just swung previously will still be cut.Razor CarbineSetsuna’s weapon of choice, having served him well for many years without fail. The meter-long blade of this gunblade is made of chipped black metal, having seen many a battle throughout its time on the field. The sword-mode itself possesses a single cutting edge, modeled after a straight-edged katana. Despite its battered appearance, the unknown metal composing the blade is still significantly more durable than mundane metals. The hilt is more of a matte black, though the leather circling the grip has been worked to the point where it now presents a pale shade of gray. In gun-mode, Fang transforms into a heavy semi-automatic pistol, capable of firing off powerful rounds akin to shotgun shells in size and destructive force. The firearm mode houses a total of 16 rounds, and can fire 5 rounds per post in rapid succession. This weapon is normally kept holstered in gun-form on Setusna's left thigh/~ STRENGTHS ~
Setsuna's unique magical gifts, in combination with his prowess as a dirty fighter, makes him a force to reckoned with on any battlefield. His ability to produce relatively-stable magical duplicates ensures he is rarely alone in any fight; he can use strategies both clever and flat-out bizarre to maneuver his opponent's into disadvantageous positions, or flat-out use them as meat shields to extend his presence in combat. While he may not be the strongest or most magically gifted in any given circumstances, Setsuna is more than capable of using his unpredictable magical aptitudes and martial prowess to bring the fight to whatever stands in his way.~ WEAKNESSES ~
Due in part to his regenerative healing ability, Setsuna has a habit of acting too recklessly in combat. In other words, he tends to end up with too many injuries for his healing to keep up with, severely inhibiting his combat effectiveness and leaving him vulnerable. Combined with his disturbing habit of sending copies of himself to their deaths on a far-too frequent basis, this results in Setsuna employs an ultimately self-destructive combat style that leads to his body breaking down over longer conflicts. Factor in his overconfidence and you end up with a dude who, for all his skill and raw power, relies way too heavily on luck and innate talent to carve his path to victory.
While Setsuna's bizarre style of magic is no doubt potent, it isn't without its downsides. The events that granted him his mystical prowess essentially broke everything that made him human, making him incapable of using ordinary magic such as conjuring fireballs or bending the winds to his will. He is so deeply intertwined with his mana that excessively expending it can place a heavy tole on his body, causing him severe physical exhaustion that can escalate to internal bleeding with enough irresponsible use of his powers. This creates a viscous cycle with his regenerative healing ability, as he will continue to unconsciously call on his mana to heal himself even when doing so is only resulting in further injury.
||~ READ ALL ABOUT ME ~||
~ HISTORY ~Once upon a time, Setsuna was an average kid living on a now-dead world. He had a happy family with a mom, a dad, and a sister of relative unimportance. Then his house caught on fire and everybody died, except for him. Then a bunch of crazy scientist-mage-types kidnapped him, threw him in a cell, and spent years exposing him to pointy magical artifacts, pumping magical power directly into his body, and otherwise treating him like a slab of meat waiting to be dissected.
After about a decade of living in a portable dog crate, something changed within Setsuna. He started develop powers. Not just any powers, magical powers that he shouldn’t have been able to call on. Destructive forces so far beyond his control that during his first time drawing them out, he accidentally vaporized the facility that had held him captive and everybody in it.
He came out to find him world in the middle of a civil war. The chaos was so widespread, so profound, that soon his world drew the attention of the heartless. Within a week of their appearance his world’s cities were reduced to rubble, and in a flash of ebony light the heart of the world fell into darkness.
Setsuna should have died. He spent every waking moment of his freedom running and hiding, whether it was from people desperate for the few essentials he had on hand, the military leaders seeking to turn him into some kind of living bomb, or from the heartless themselves. But at the very moment of his world’s destruction, the uncontrollable magic within him took hold. It whisked him away across the cosmos, depositing him face-first onto another world.
He would have been satisfied had he perished with his world. It wasn’t like he had much to lose to begin with, save the clothes on his back and what few weapons he’d scavenged off the bodies of soldiers. But fate had other plans for him. The magic he had been exposed to for so many years did more than grant him powers; it mutated his body on a cellular level, preventing the genetic code in his cell from degrading during cell replication. In essence, he’d been granted a form of immortality; while he could die from injury, disease, or toxin, he never visibly aged.
And so he’s lived this way for twenty years. Flitting between worlds, making sure to never stay in one place for too long or grow too close to anybody else. He’s seen countless wars and countless governments overthrown. Lifetimes of knowledge reside within his mind, and endless wisdom lurk behind his boyish eyes.
~ SAMPLE POST ~It was only the sound of a can bouncing off a brunette's that filled the morning silence. An amber sun beginning its incline over the horizon, it was the earliness that caused life to be at a standstill on the world for the population slept – eager to clutch on to their slumbers for as long as they could. It painted a warm and homely image, those of the world tucked comfortably in bed, falling through dreams and perhaps even running from nightmares. And it was this thought that made a rather handsome brunet kick the can at his feet with more force than his idle movements previously portrayed.
“Oh go on and just sleep then. I’m very sure you all take that for granted.” A crisp voice, the tone of it was almost lazy, as though such a trivial matter had been discussed countless times before in his life. The well-spoken Setsuna Tasumaki’s words may have perplexed some, but they did indeed make perfect sense. For whilst the world could curl up and dream, if Setsuna closed his eyes all he would see is darkness. Just the black of his eyelids.
It wouldn’t have been so bad if there was something to do. Anything really. There was only so much music you could practice and only so long that a library could capture your attention. There was only so much training he could do confined within the four walls of his room, only so much he could sharpen his newly developed talents. By the fact he was kicking a tin can, hands tucked into semi tight fitting jeans, made it quite clear nothing had captured his attention the previous night.
Sapphire eyes rolled upwards as Setsuna kicked the can. Good god, he should have been crawling out the window of some pretty girl’s home right now. He should have been running around the neighborhood, his limbs screaming for oxygen and sweat purging off his brow. Hell, he’d have settled for a nice breakfast and newspaper.
He stopped short of his next kick, instead opting to stare down at the piece of tin lying pathetically by his feet. The canister was covered in dirt and grass and bits of shredded flower petals. It wasn’t often he escaped the city; usually when he did it was because of a family picnic or something along those lines. But on this particular morning, he just had to get out of the city. Had to get away from all that idiocy condensed into a couple of square miles, from the noise and the blinding lights, from the crime and general lack of etiquette.
Here, out in the middle of nowhere, was one of the few places he could take absolute solace in. The trees that loomed overhead, burned with countless emerald leaves, deadened any noises echoing out from the city. The shade each limb cast upon the ground shielded him from the blinding rays of the sun and wrapped him the cool, seductive embrace of darkness. The wind ever-so-lightly brushed the side of his cheek, like the fleeting kiss from the mysterious stranger. The aroma of the earth beneath his feet was deep and rich, like a heavy perfume that made every nerve in his body tingle with warmth.
He glanced upward, staring through the plant life and towards the sun just breaking through the countless boughs. He felt his lips stretch upwards into a slight grin, his sapphire eyes burning with renewed passion and energy. That image, that picture of pure beauty, had struck a chord within his very soul. He felt this energy spread through his veins like wildfire, pulling him out of his slumped stance.
Enough of this pointless wandering. "Time to make some noise."
And by noise he meant explosions.
