Mei was calmly taking things to her pace, a strong and delicious aroma soon filling the kitchen. As she saw Mink speaking with a bit more emotion, she smiled, and shook her head.
"For now, I'm fine" she replied, chuckling a bit, "And... I'm glad you're feeling somewhat better..." she teased a bit.
"Actually..." Mei looked around, noticing something, "Umm... Could you grab two small bowls? To serve the rice I'm doing... I'm not exactly sure where they're stored..." she said, smiling uneasily.

Mink nodded as Mei told them she didn't need the help, smiling faintly at the tease. They weren't sure why, but they felt more calm now than with their emotions in check just an hour before. Maybe letting themselves feel occasionally wasn't so bad after all.
Their thought were interrupted by her request for bowls, something that made Mink actually look around, since everything was slightly different from their timeline. Eventually they found them in a cabinet beside the oven and grabbed two ceramic blue bowls, setting them next to the stove. "No idea why they were there, but here you go. That smells really good, by the way."

Mei chuckled, tucking a bit of hair behind her ear, and blushing at the small praise from Mink's part. Noticing they'd brought what she'd asked for, she took a spoon and, one by one, filled the bowls with rice up to the middle. She then grabbed the pan, and, with the help of a wooden spoon, served its contents equally, resulting in two perfect-looking bowls with rice, meat and vegetables.
"I really hope you're not a picky eater..." Mei mentioned, grabbed the bowls with a chuckle, "So? Ready to dig in or not?"
Mei was up straight, looking confident. The dish looked great and she was sure it tasted even better. Doing that same recepy so many times before left no room for error, and she knew that, this time, it would be just like usual -a perfect lunch entrée.

Mink grinned slightly as Mei filled the bowls and spoke, replying as they moved back to the table. "I'm the opposite of a picky eater. That smells good enough to be worth fighting for though." They realized how odd that might sound only after saying it, a soft snort betraying their amusement.
"Sorry, inside joke that I'm the only one inside anymore. It does smell delicious though." Just as they sat down they realized that they had nothing to eat with, rolling their eyes in exaggerated annoyance before floating over to the utensil drawer. "Chopsticks, fork, or spoon?"

Mei shook her head at Mink's comment after hearing the joke, and even laughed a bit. It sure sounded familiar, after all.
"It's okay, I get it" she said in a chuckle, "Surprisingly enough, actually." Mei left the bowls in the table, and looked at them again, "Well... Any of those work! I'll have sticks, though."
As she raised her view back up towards Mink, a memory flashed quickly in her head -a memory not old whatsoever, but a recent one. She drew a faint, caring smile at the touching memory, and sighed. Even after such a short time, she really was starting to miss her friends and home.
"Hopefully... I can go back soon..." she thought, calmly.

Mink nodded and pulled out two pair of chopsticks. "Sticks it is then." With a practiced flick they sent one pair into each bowl before dropping back into their chair and muttering a thanks before starting to eat.
A moment passed in silence before Mink spoke up again. "This really is delicious, Mei. Thanks for cooking it." As they glanced up at Mei they could see the loneliness in her aura, mentally kicking themselves.
Pausing after another moment of eating, they put their chopsticks on the bowl horizontally before looking more seriously at Mei. "Mei, do you want me to start us on the way to your world?"

Mei began to eat slowly, and blushed a bit as Mink complimented the dish. Silence soon took a place in between them, until they asked if she wanted to go back home. Mei wasn't able to reply, and instead looked at Mink in shock. Was it really possible, then?
"You... Can do that...?" she asked, a bit silent, "I..." Mei looked down, looking for words to express her desire.
"If... If you could... I'd... I'd be really happy to ask if you could help me go back home..." she said, calmly, smiling with embarassement, "I'd... Really appreciate it..." "But that's not something I'll allow, sweetie..."
Mei stood up forcefully, shaking a bit. What was that just now? A voice inside her head spoke out of nowhere, as soon as she'd made the decision to take up on Mink's offer. Slightly pale, she sat back down, worried.
"W-What was that just now...?"

A soft half smile grew on Mink's face as they listened to Mei's decision. That quickly vanished as they noticed a fluctuation in her aura, almost looking like an entirely different person's for a moment before she sat down again.
Mow worried, Mink looked closer at Mei before speaking again. "You don't usually have something talk to you like that, do you. Any idea what's going on?"

Mei looked uneasy, and even more when Mink asked if she knew what was happening. Shaking her head vigoriously, Mei tried thinking on what happened just now.
"I... I'm not sure how you caught that, but..." she said, uneasy"I'm not sure what that was..." Mei looked down, "I'm... I'm really unsure now... Of what I can do..." "Oh, there are many things you could do... Such as following me, Mei... Don't you wanna know where you are? Or how you got here?"
The voice once more echoed in her head, and Mei closed her eyes shut, tense. It was starting to scare her, and Mei didn't know whether that voice was friend or foe. But one thing was certain -it was definitely someone watching her.

Mink blinked once before they realized they hadn't explained. "Oh, I can see auras like my mom. And if that happens again then-" They cut off as exactly that happened, though they were unable to see anything other than the same shift in Mei's aura.
Clearly it upset her though, and so Mink pushed through their own discomfort and hugged her lightly, trying not to think too much about themselves. "Hey, whatever's talking to you can't hurt you without showing itself." They let go after a moment and looked at Mei again, eyes showing a touch of concern. "Do you still want to go, or do you want to figure this out first?"

Mei was caught off-guard by Mink's hug, but, after a while, smiled caringly, and hugged her back. They were right -if they didn't show up, then nothing would happen. And, besides, she wasn't alone there -Mink was there with her.
"Right..." Mei said, smiling a bit, "You're right..."
"I do wanna go back home. I want to be by Tori and Neku's side again. I'd... I'd feel bad if they were missing me..." Mei answered Mink's question, "It just doesn't feel right, me being here and the others still back home, y'know? After all... We all wanted to leave and have an adventure once we graduated."
Mei giggled slightly, relieving some of her own tension, and hopefully some of Mink's unease as well. After that, she let go, and smiled at Mink with genuine relief.
"So... When are we leaving?" she asked. "Ah, I'm sorry" a voice spoke, not far away from them, "But I believe you didn't listen, did you? You're not going back -not until we're finished with her."

Mei's words brought a hint of a smile to Mink's face, reminded of the bond they shared with Zane and Hannah in their original timeline. It still was there, to a certain extent, but they had yet to work up the courage to ask if the others remembered like they did.
Their musings were interrupted by Mei's question, quickly followed by the peace as another voice joined them from nearby. Instantly Mink drew their Murgleis Astraeus, though if it came to a fight they wouldn't be able to use their magic much in the ship. "Who's there, and how did you get on the ship without Aura sensing you?" They eyed the area carefully, wishing not for the first time that they had inherited their mom's ability to sense hearts.

Mei flinched, and turned back to look where the voice came from.
As for the one who spoke, they simply smirked back, somewhat amused at Mink's reaction. They even chuckled a bit seeing that Mink drew their weapons. Sighing, she took a step forward, revealing their amused smirk, and red eyes, focused on Mei rather than Mink.
"Didn't you hear me, sweetheart? You're coming with me." "I..." Mei stepped back a bit, "I don't even know you...!" "That's no reason to ignore a request, is it?"
They stepped a bit forward, and it was clearly a female figure. Short, white hair with a long streak by their side, that she moved away in a sigh of annoyance. She glanced at Mink, and looked at them sternly before smirking.
"I would answer you, but... You're not worth my time" she said, "Unless... You hand her over. Then I might."
As she said that, the girl held her hand forward, begging for Mink to give Mei up, with a smirk. As for Mei, still scared, tried to step a bit back, but was paralyzed in fear. She'd never seen that person before, and the way that she was asking Mink to give her up scared Mei even further. She glanced at Mink, with fear in her eyes, waiting for her answer.

Mink pointed the tip of their rapier at the woman, eyes hard as they recognized her from their mom's stories and memory simulations. "You're the Spirit that fought against my mom and Tori." It wasn't a question, but rather a statement. They didn't know her name, but they knew some of what she could do.
As much as Mink hated to admit it, they probably would have a hard time dealing with her on their own, and they weren't sure if Mei would be much help. The scene brought up some of the more unpleasant memories of that old timeline though, giving their voice a hard edge as they moved between the woman and Mei. "I've lived through the end of a universe and killed gods. You don't scare me, and I won't hand her over."

Sighing, the girl let her hand fall. She had a feeling things would go that way, after all, and yet, didn't mind whatsoever. But it didn't mean she'd leave empty-handed. She'd caught the memories Mink had quickly went through, ever shaking and almost asking to be broken apart.
"You're saying I don't scare you, but you're afraid regardless" she stated, "It might not be me, but I'll make use of that fear regardless. After all, I've got a score to settle with you lot."
She held both hands forward, a Keyblade soon materializing in front of her. She looked as if she struggled a bit while wielding it, but it didn't stop her from smirking, and calmly letting it rest beside her as a mist surrounded her, soon taking the form of a nine-tailed fox.
"I'm not about to leave empty-handed, child" she said, both her and the nine-tailed fox looking at both Mink and Mei, "And I honestly don't mind what means I use. ...Get our target -I'll handle the pushover."
The nine-tailed fox quickly made its way towards Mei, while the girl took focus on Mink, Keyblade held firmly in both hands, and relentlessly aiming to knock her out cold.

Mink took one look at the woman's new ally and keyblade and cursed softly. They really couldn't use much of their magic inside the ship without hurting both it and them, and her rapier would do nothing against a weapon that size. Normally they'd back out of the room before using a spell to buy time, but unless they could get Mei to move they'd be stuck there.
"Mei, get to the door. I know you're scared, but I can't fight and protect at the same time." A low growl issued from Mink's throat as they literally flew backwards to put themselves between Mei and the new enemy, noticing for the first time that their hooded sweatshirt was still draped across the chair. It was odd what things you noticed when fighting for your life.

Mei stood paralyzed in fear, but hearing Mink's order snapped her back in action, and made a run for the door. That attempt would've been successful had the nine-tailed fox not follow her trail. The creature prowled quickly, tossing Mei to the ground, and immobilizing her, causing Mei to try and struggle back, losing time.
"Urgh... Let... Go!" Mei said as she struggled against the iron grip of the fox.
As for the woman, she made sure to keep Mink at bay. Keyblade held firmly, she striked down at Mink once more, seeing her last attack miss. Her red eyes locked on them, as she kept keeping Mink further and further away from Mei.
"You're saying you can't fight and protect at the same time, but..." she said, smirking, "I think you're mistaken on one thing: you won't fight and protect anyone -not now, at the very least. Not until I get my way out of this -and that's getting you out of the way."
Taking a bit of distance, the woman summoned 5 orbs of light, that immediately aimed at Mink, giving a damn about the damage they may cause. Mei managed to catch the spell by a glance, and struggled even more, getting one of her hands free, and aiming at Mink.
"Scathe!" "Shellga!" Mei casted, her voice broken, as the spell protected both her and Mink from the possible magic damage.

Mink grimaced as they were forced away from Mei again, feeling their anger growing. Suddenly the woman pulled back, but the reprieve proved to be short lived as orbs of light raced toward them. Mei's ward helped some, but the two that still hit felt like bullets ramming into their hip and chest, forcing them into the air.
"T-that's it. Mei," Mink's words were shaky not from lack of resolve but from trying to get their breath back, "sorry. Duality Mage: Short-circuit!" They remained in the air as they channeled both water and lightning magic at the ground, creating a rapidly expanding puddle of electrified water that within a few seconds would cover the entire kitchen floor.
Some of the electricity also damaged the ship, setting off alarms and flashing lights and sending an alert to a specific communicator on another world...

Mei looked at Mink with a mix of shock and concern, but nodded as they made use of their abilities. While the attack did reach her, the nine-tailed fox also recieved heavy damage from it, and, unlike Mei, wasn't able to endure it, letting go for a fraction of a second. Making use of that time frame, Mei got away from the beast's claws.
Although the woman was shocked at first, she didn't lose a single second in defending against the attack. A faint, glowing barrier quickly formed around her, reflecting the electrified water right back at Mink with almost no effort whatsoever. Sighing, she took a step forward, and, hearing the alarms, glared at where the sound came from, and shooting 3 light bullets towards it, causing a faint explosion.
"Honestly? That's the best you've got?" she asked Mink, looking unamused, "Hmph... So it was a waste of time after all... You weren't even worth toying with." "...Leave them alone!" Mei shouted.
Still shaking in fear, Mei tossed her weapon blind, although it aimed straight for the woman. In a quick block, the rapier fell to the ground in a loud clang, and the woman glared at Mei, who, now eyes open, was clearly petrfied.
"You thought that would stop me?" she asked, "Don't make me laugh... You're weak, and the only thing you're good at... Well, it's not going to help you here, is it? ...Pin her down."
In a quick flash, the nine-tailed fox regained composure, and, leaping towards Mei, pinned her to the ground, and grabbed her by the back of her vest, tight enough so that she wouldn't slip by, as Kira approached Mink with a menacing glare.
"Now... Be a good kid and stay down so I can finish you quick."

Mink watched Mei escape only to be immediately captured trying to help them, and finally had enough. Allowing the floating crystal over their left hand to vanish they aimed carefully with their right and threw the Murgleis Astraeus toward Mei's hand, hoping she'd be able to use it.
As the woman approached Mink's eyes blazed with power as they made a familiar motion with their right hand, summoning the Requiem's Resolve in a flash of violet light before leveling it before them. "That's enough! Crystal Genesis!" The tip their blade tapped the ground before them, which rumbled before two foot tall spikes of crystal erupted in a line toward the woman, extending ten feet counting the two it climbed up the wall of the kitchen.
In the captain's quarters Lucia stepped out of a Corridor of Darkness, closing it behind her fully armored form. Instantly she recognized the three hearts in the kitchen, though the fourth was odd and unfamiliar. Steeling herself and summoning Requiem's Resolve, she opened the door and turned toward the room, prepared for a fight.
