The banging on the door stirred Yuto from his sleep. "If we don’t hurry, we ain’t gonna be able to enjoy the day to its fullest!” He sat up with a groan, rubbing sleep from his eyes. "He knows I can warp us there, right?" Whether Neku knew or not was irrelevant, as the man was talking to himself. Looking around, He found the day's outfit. Ducking into a more private area, the man changed.
”C’mon, Yuto!” Henoke called for him just as he finished getting himself together. "Keep ya shirt on, I'm coming." A small smile played on the corner of his lips. He felt better than he did the previous night. Seeing Neku at the door, he waved. "Morning. Ready to go?"
”Should we grab Tori? Oh! Should we help Mei carry over everythin'?" Yuto walked up beside Henoke and put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sure the girls are already there, waiting for us." It was a little disheartening that the five of them wouldn't be going down together, but they would all meet up at the beach.
With that thought, he noticed Neku holding a couple of swim trunks. "Told'ya he'd have spare." The man directed Henoke's attention to the swimwear. "At least now you can look the part."

At first, Neku flinched, but an amused smirk quickly took shape in his lips. Henoke sure knew how to make an entrance… Or at least, when greeting someone, he left quite the impression, and Neku couldn’t help but find it amusing.
Nodding as Henoke thanked him, he looked past him to catch Yuto, who was also waking up. Hearing Henoke mention Tori, he shrugged with a somewhat uneasy smile.
“She’s gone off already —her keys were by the board” Neku explained, “She prolly wanted to go ahead and pick us a spot. That’s who she is, really.”
He shook his head as Henoke asked if they should help Mei, but it wasn’t necessary. Given that it was just lunch boxes, Neku had already considered her bringing a beach bag with her —nothing too heavy for her, really. He smirked once more when Yuto pointed the trunks he was carrying in his hand, to then hand them over towards the two.
“I didn’t notice it when I left, but it clicked a bit after…” he said, chuckling, “So… I brought ‘em over for ya. I’m hoping they fit” he said, “Y’know —I think Henoke’s gonna be fine, but… Uh…” Neku glanced over at Yuto, “Ain’t too sure if they’re your size…”
“Imma wait for you two to get ‘em on, and then we go to the beach. ‘Kay?”

”She’s gone off already—“ It seemed Yuto had been right, Tori had already left before them. It wouldn’t have bothered him if everything had been fine, but part of him was slightly annoyed by the fact the reconciliation would be postponed. At least she was securing them a good spot, which was nice. ”Told’ya he’d have a spare.” Noticing the trunks Neku carried with him, Henoke realized he’d relied too heavily on the chance of the merc’ forgetting them. ”Imma wait for you two to get ‘em on, and then we can go to the beach. ‘Kay?” He only grimaced slightly as he grabbed the trunks that were offered—knowing Yuto wouldn’t need a pair. ”Oh…thanks.” Henoke tried to muster up enthusiasm, as it was nice for Neku to think of them. As Yuto appeared to already be wearing his trunks, Henoke was the only one that needed to change.
Making himself move quick, the teen switched out the orange plaid pants he normally wore for the swim trunks, his white shirt going well with pretty much anything since it was basic. Though he wasn't too keen on the idea of going into the water, it was nice wearing shorts for a change. Coming back out of the room, making sure to remember the room key, Henoke grinned and gave Neku and Yuto a ‘thumbs up’. ”Alright! Let’s get goin’!” He was excited to see everyone, not having been to a beach with a group in forever.

”Imma wait for you two to get ‘em on, and then we can go to the beach. ‘Kay?” Yuto watched as Henoke grabbed a pair and headed off to change. "Oh, I'm ok." He made the fact that he was wearing the trunks that he got the night before apparent. "The girls thought you might not have something my size, so we went shopping." He still appreciated the fact that Neku thought to bring anything at all.
”Alright! Let’s get goin’!” Henoke had changed faster than he thought. It wasn't completely unexpected, considering how high energy the teen was. He looked over to Neku with a soft laugh. "Well, I guess you're leading then. Which way chief?" After everything that happened the night before, he was eager for some good times, and to apologize. He felt bad about how he acted, but he wasn't going to let that ruin everyone's fun.
"So, what're we doing when we get there?" He was curious as to what Neku had in mind.

Neku nodded as Yuto pointed out he’d already put on his swimwear, watching instead as only Henoke went to change. He came back quickly, eager to get going. Neku smirked, turning around in order to head out, folding his hands behind his head as he walked along.
“Let’s get to it!”
Neku headed out of the Shacks, his pace somewhat slow to allow the other to catch up easily. It was still somewhat early in the morning, only little movement to be seen. Yet the breeze was anything but chill —instead a somewhat warm air taking place. Fairly humid, it was the weather one expected of a tropical environment —and one inviting to go for a swim.
“Well, I got my hands on a beach ball, so we could play beach volley” Neku mentioned after Yuto had asked what they would do, “If not… A water race’s always fun. Oh! And diving, too —I bet there’s tons of oysters we could catch. Y’know —the kind that carry pearls inside of ‘em. They sell pretty well, if you want some cash. Then… What else…?” he hummed for a bit, to then give up quickly, “Well, there’s tons you can do at the beach —it’s just a matter of finding the time and spot.”
The walk from the Shacks to the beach the group wanted to go to was a quick one, not longer than 15 minutes or so, given how the Shacks were by the eastern side of the island, opposite to the Academy and its Training Grounds. The Eastern Shore was the second safest area, only after the northern point, where the town was settled —and as such, it made for a nice place to hang by, so long as one took the necessary precautions.
Even though it is a safe shore, keeping an eye out can be most appreciated.
As they walked by the shoreline, they could see Tori by at a distance, setting the parasol. Her hair, usually tied in a ponytail, was now a bun, yet the streaks of hair by her side were still there as usual. She wore a swimming top, tied around her neck and covering her stomach, its pattern being striped with multitude of colors, while she wore swimming shorts of a black tone. Having settled the first part of the parasol, she was readying the second half when she spotted the trio, waving their way with her still gloved hand.
“Hey —come help me set up, will ya?!” she greeted, laughing a bit.

Following Neku out of the Shacks, Henoke relished in the quiet morning—it felt like they had the town to themselves. Hearing Yuto ask about what they’d do at the beach, Henoke’s eyes lit up at the mention of ‘beach volley’. ”Oh, that sounds fun!” He always enjoyed games that you could play on the sand. Despite his lack of skill while swimming, the mention of high selling pearls did sound appealing, also reminding the teen of when Tori had showed him the coral reef. The walk proved easy and fast as the beach came into sight, causing Henoke’s face to betray his excitement. It looked way better than the last beach he’d been on. Much more ‘alive’. ”Hey—come help me set up, will ya?!” Seeing Tori setting up a parasol in the distance, Henoke grinned as he waved. She seemed to be in a much better mood, and had gotten a pretty good spot. ”Yeah, yeah, we’re comin’!”
In high spirits, the teen ran on ahead to where Tori was, giving her a hand with the preparations. Kicking off his shoes the moment he hit the sand, Henoke had a wide grin on his face as they set up. ”Nice spot, Tori!” He’d come to peace with waiting for Tori and Yuto to move at their own pace—deciding that he wouldn’t let it bother him during their fun beach day. Besides, it looked like the two of them were content with how things were for now—so he figured it wasn’t his place to start meddling now. It was rare they all got to do this, after all.

Yuto followed the two to the beach, nodding at Neku's plans for fun. 'Easy way to make cash, eh? I'll keep that in mind.' He couldn't rely on finding random caches of munny back home, he'd have to make some by doing something. They got to the beach quickly, surprising the man. He hadn't realized how close the beach was to town.
”Hey—come help me set up, will ya?!” Yuto smirked and waved back at Tori as Henoke ran off to help. "Keep ya shorts on, we're coming." He called back, choosing to take his time and enjoy the warm tropical weather and the sand between his bare feet.
Arriving at the spot Tori and everyone else was, Yuto decided to help with the parasol. He figured now was as good a time as any to make amends. "Hey, sorry for snapping last night. You didn't deserve that. None of you did." With that, Yuto went to work on finishing whatever still hadn't been set up.

Chuckling a bit, Tori nodded as Henoke rushed to help, while Neku and Yuto took it easier. With the teen’s help, setting the parasol straight was no issue, firmly anchored to the sand while providing enough shade. Once it was finished, Tori smirked, glancing over at Henoke with a teasing tone.
“Huh… And here I thought you wouldn’t go even near stuff related to water…” she teased, “I take it Neku handed it over?”
Chuckling a bit, she didn’t expect anything much, other that perhaps Henoke’s retorts. Yuto approaching and apologizing cut the mood a bit, but Tori smiled, placing a finger on her lips while smirking.
“Save it for later” she said, “There are a few things we might have to discuss, but… I don’t think now’s the time” Tori relaxed a bit, “Let’s finish setting up, and then we can talk. Okay?”
Calmly, she giggled. Without the previous teasing tone she’d shown Henoke, she calmly decided what to do next. At the moment, however…
They had a few things to do.
The parasol alone wasn’t the only thing they had to set —things like towels and picking their spots was also on the list. Yet Henoke and Yuto didn’t have their own, and Mei, who’d suggested to bring a few for them, had yet to arrive. Neku or Tori weren’t worried by it, since they knew how much longer her way was compared to theirs, and also the things she’d promised to bring.
Having picked a spot, Neku laid on his back, his hands folded behind his head as he looked through the shade towards the sky, waiting for things to happen. He glanced over at Tori, a normal look in his expression.
“Say, did you bring sunscreen?” he asked. “No… I put on before I left” Tori pouted, “You didn’t?” “I don’t got one, that’s why.” “You’ll have to wait, then… Unless you wanna get a pretty rough tan.” “Nope —learnt that one the hard way.”

Tori’s comment brought an indignant look to Henoke’s face as he crossed his arms, tsking a bit in good humor. ”Whatever. He was nice ‘bout it so I didn’t wanna say no…” With a faint smirk of his own, he eyed the girl with relief. He was glad to see she was in better spirits now. As Yuto and Neku came over, Henoke was thankful that his friends seemed ready to apologize, glad that they had come to an agreement to talk later themselves. Today’s gonna be awesome! He was getting pumped up again. While they finished setting up, Neku sprawled out, seemingly relaxed and enjoying himself. Henoke glanced around the beach, the early morning breeze surprisingly warm and inviting. The sand crunched between his toes and brought a faint grin to his face as he relished in the sensation.
”Say, did you bring sunscreen?” Neku’s sudden question caught Henoke by surprise. He hadn’t thought of that. Typically he just used magic to heal himself from any burns or bruises. ”You’ll have to wait, then…unless you wanna get a pretty rough tan.” Hearing how Neku had seemed to learn about that ‘the hard way’, Henoke chuckled a bit and shook his head, giving the young mercenary a ‘thumbs up’. ”Don’t sweat it, Neku! I’ll heal ya if ya get too burnt!” He’d most likely need to use some magic on himself, too. His own peach complexion was definitely susceptible to the sun rays, though his burns always faded by the next day. With a grin, the teen turned to Yuto, knowing his friend most likely didn’t have any sunscreen either.
”Same goes for you, Yuto.”

"Save it for later...Let’s finish setting up, and then we can talk. Okay?” Yuto nodded, softening overall. He was glad to see that everyone seemed to still be in good spirits. "Yeah, alright. What's next on the list?" He was eager to enjoy the beach now that the biggest thing on his list had all but been taken care of.
Neku's comment about sunscreen caught Yuto's attention. He wasn't afraid of a bit of sunburn, in fact it rarely happened to him. ”Don’t sweat it, Neku! I’ll heal ya if ya get too burnt! Same goes for you, Yuto.” The man smiled and shook his head. "Thanks for the offer Henoke, but I'm lucky enough to be able to tan. I'm not too worried."
With that, Yuto turned back to Tori and the rest of the things that needed to be set up. Taking a look at what was still there, he looked at the girl next to him. "Where's Mei? I didn't see her when we arrived." Part of him hoped his actions last night hadn't scared her off. He knew that it wasn't the case, but there was still doubt in his mind. He sat in the sand and stared off to the sea. A look of familiarity fell on his face. It was strangely calming, thinking of the other beach and the view it offered. He didn't like what those events led to in his life, but that one instance had been the one moment of peace he had in the whirlwind he was caught in. It wasn't entirely unpleasant to think about the shoreline, at the very least.

Neku grimaced after hearing Henoke’s comment, jerking back up with a pretty annoyed look, which just so happened to amuse Tori enough to make her laugh. While the teen irked with bitterness, Tori had sat by the shade looking at the spectacle in front.
“Oi, say that again, I dare ya!” Neku shouted, “You’re paler than me, for cryin’ out loud! And you got the guts to say that?!” “Chill already…” Tori mentioned, still chuckling a bit.
Pouting, Neku backed off, crossing his arms with a frown, not really willing to admit that Henoke’s offer was, in fact, a nice one —one who wanted to help. But his pride wouldn’t allow it, really —he didn’t want others to take care of him for petty things like that.
Then again, his anger was directed at a petty issue.
"Where's Mei?” Yuto’s question brought a bit of room for another topic, Tori tilting her head as she looked towards him. Neku also glanced over at him, a serious look in his eyes —his regular look.
“She did have a lot of prep to do, remember?” Tori replied, calmly, “She’s bringing lunch with her, so she’s probably finishing the packing. Although…” glancing over at the sky, Tori pondered, a finger on her chin, “It is unusual for her to be late… Maybe something caught up to her?” “Something, or someone?” Neku snickered, “’Cause y’know Mayu’s a mess.” “Well… Given how invested she was in her current research… It wouldn’t surprise me.”
After a bit of silence, Tori stood up, catching Neku’s attention. Where did she wanna go? She, on her end, glanced over at Yuto, a calm smile in her lips. Tilting his head, Neku leaned towards her a bit, his arms still crossed as he stood up.
“What’re you plottin’?” he asked. “Nothing you should worry about” Tori smirked, pushing him away by bopping his nose with her finger, “That nose of yours should probably stay out of this.” “Tch…” “As for you…” she glanced over at Yuto, her hands behind her, “You wanted to talk, right? Or, rather… You asked me about something before, but I couldn’t answer. So… Why don’t we take care of that now?”
“You can come too, if you want, Henoke —since this does involve you in a way” Tori glanced over at the orange-head, “I’ll understand if you don’t wanna.”
Standing up properly, she led the way, a bit further down into the beach, nearing the vast tropical forest —a quiet area, where only the sounds of the waves were heard.

Neku’s shout only brought a smirk to Henoke’s face, releasing a snicker as Tori was quick to swoop in. ”Where’s Mei?” Though the girl did have a lot to bring, Yuto’s comment made the teen wonder as he glanced around the empty beach. She was nowhere in sight. ”It is unusual for her to be late…” Knowing there were monsters on the island, for a second Henoke’s mind leapt to some dark conclusions. Sighing in relief as Neku mentioned Mayu and her research, the teen realized he had been letting his fantasies get the better of him lately. He was still curious about what the woman did for research, though it seemed Tori had a plan of her own—bringing a curious look to Henoke’s face as Neku questioned her.
Though Tori had mentioned speaking with Yuto later about the apology, it seemed she was also ready to tell him about that war. ”You can come too, if you want, Henoke—“ Grateful to hear that she was understanding, the teen shook his head, giving a half-hearted smile and a wave at the two. ”Nah, you two can go on ahead. I’ll chill here with Neku.” He was in high spirits because of the beach and frankly he knew talking about his past and whatnot would only dampen that. If Mei showed up soon, everyone would be here—that’d be the worst time for him to become all gloomy and mopey. He’d need to keep his energy up for all the games they were gonna play, after all. As Tori and Yuto walked off, Henoke watched them for just a moment with a sullen look on his face. Well, he was gonna find out eventually. Hopefully Tori would keep some of his own involvement vague…after all, Henoke didn’t have the best opinion of his original self during that incident.
”Yo—wanna play a game while we wait for ‘em?” Gesturing towards the supplies everyone had brought, Henoke figured the two could kill some time and relax. Seeing the colorful beach ball, the teen grinned and grabbed it, holding it up with a raised brow. ”How ‘bout it? Show me this ‘beach volley’ thing!”

Neku's shouting caused Yuto to laugh. Henoke's offer was a nice one, but the absurdity of Neku's reaction was amusing. Tori's comment about Mei needing to pack made sense. He didn't know if she was packing the food on her own or not, but Tori's response answered that particular question.
“You wanted to talk, right? Or, rather… You asked me about something before, but I couldn’t answer. So… Why don’t we take care of that now?” The line of questioning took Yuto by surprise. That was the last thing that was on his mind, especially now. "Uh, s-sure." The man scrambled to his feet. ”You can come too, if you want, Henoke—“ He tilted his head as to why Henoke would want to come. Last time the topic was brought up, it seemed to bother both of them. ”Nah, you two can go on ahead. I’ll chill here with Neku.”
Part of Yuto was relieved, the topic seemed to carry a certain weight that didn't need to be shared by everyone. "So, shall we?" Yuto gestured for Tori to lead. Once the two were out of earshot, Yuto decided to speak up first. "Um, just for context, I wasn't exactly around for the war. Hence the reason I was asking about it."

Nodding after hearing Henoke’s choice, Tori and Yuto left to the quieter area. It was empty save from the plants and trees —no one there to bother. And Yuto took no time making use of that silence. Him admitting that he was aware of the war Tori had mentioned before helped, as it narrowed the possible answers she could give. Still, she would make sure only to mention general details, not specific ones that could lead into Henoke’s mention.
She’d make sure to keep his secrets safe.
“So, you are from that time, but were not there to participate…” Tori nodded, turning faintly towards him, “That narrows things down, quite a bit. Then… Before I start explaining, though… I think I owe you an apology from yesterday. I lost my cool, and honestly I did exaggerate. I didn’t mean it, nor did I want to make you uncomfortable…” Tori frowned a bit, and then looked down, “I didn’t consider that those thoughts would surface… Had I known, maybe I would’ve been a bit easier on it, or even thought my words a bit. So… I’m sorry” she smiled a bit, caring, “I won’t tell anyone about anything, though —your secrets are safe with me.”
She’d meant what she’d said —wanting him to be aware. The power to see people’s memories wasn’t one Tori was still used to, but it would be better for him to know, before he got the wrong impression. Tori already knew a lot solely from before —both from his memories and his reactions. Yet she held no hatred or fear —not even pity. Genuinely, she wanted to help.
The same way she’d helped other before.
”Yo—wanna play a game while we wait for ‘em?”
Neku glanced over towards Henoke, curious to see what he was up to. As he grabbed the beach ball, he smirked. Beach volley, then? Having sat down when Yuto and Tori left, Neku stood back up, a teasing smirk in his lips.
It seemed to be a trait he shared —him and Tori both.
“Beach volley, then?” he asked, lowering his hands to his sides, “Well… It’d be fun if we do it by the water, but that’d mess up if we put sunscreen later” Neku placed one hand on his opposite shoulder, warming up, “You know how to play, right? We pass the ball without holdin’ it —as in, we make it bounce. Hands and forearms are good, but nothin’ else. If you can make it so I can’t make it bounce back to you, you get a point —and it goes my way, too. It can't touch the floor, to cut it short” he laughed.
He pointed at the ball in Henoke’s hands, indicating for him to start. Neither could grab the ball, as it had to go fluently between them, be it by hitting it with one’s forearm or hand.
“Come on —toss it!”

”Beach volley, then?” His grin widened as Neku stood and seemed down to play. It definitely was better than jut sitting around and waiting for the others. ”You know how to play, right?” Thankfully Neku knew the rules, informing Henoke with pretty straightforward directions—the best kind for a guy like himself. Hm…no feet, huh? Damn. He had always been a good kicker. Oh well. ”Come on—toss it!” Feeling his competitive side flare, Henoke nodded with a smirk as he readied himself by backing up and gaining some distance. ”Alright, let’s do this!” Jumping off the sand, the teen tossed the ball above him, delivering a powerful overhanded hit that SLAPPED! against the ball's elastic and plastic surface. Launching across the distance Henoke had created, the ball soared in a steady arc directly for Neku.
The moment his feet landed back on the sand, the teen had crouched a bit, digging his heels in and readying himself. Prepared to sprint in whatever direction Neku would end up tossing the ball in, he didn't put it past the guy to try and spike one in a zany direction. The merc seemed competitive, too. Good! Henoke hated pushovers and easy victories.

He tilted his head at her comment about when he was from. "Uh, I guess, yeah."Not entirely sure what she meant. He would've remembered fighting in a war; or hiding and keeping others safe at the very least. He smiled softly at her apology before waving it off. "It's cool, really. No one could've expected what happened. Besides, you don't get to be my age without learning to be a little understanding." Part of his statement was a joke, an attempt to lighten the mood.
Yuto sighed, looking Tori in the eye. A mix of wistfulness and pain behind his gaze. "I'm sure you would want more context, so hit me with whatever questions you got." He sat on the nearest thing that wasn't sand. "May help you answer my question. War isn't exactly an easy topic, from what I understand." He let a small flame dance from fingertip to fingertip, a small practice in focus he learned when he was first taught spellwork, as he waited for Tori's response.

Shaking her head as she listened to Yuto, Tori calmly remained still. It seemed he hadn’t noticed, but his comments afterwards would lead to that path regardless. Even though it was nerve-wracking to explain it to someone, Tori felt that it was the only way she could make herself clear.
With the apology taken care of, she could delve deeper.
“I don’t need ‘context’ —I’ve already seen it” she said as she shook her head, “I already know what you went through, and the hardships you endured. They just… Surfaced, when you got angry.”
She looked away, frowning. This was it —where she’d confess her unique ability. Henoke’s presence would’ve been appreciated, but so much for that. If all else failed, they could return to where he and Neku were waiting, for reassurance.
Although Neku was somewhat clueless about it, anyways.
“Before you ask how I know… I’ll tell you” she said, “I… Have a pretty… unique ability, and that is to see people’s memories —all of it, whether I want to or not. However… I don’t see everything immediately —only when the memories themselves surface from their owner, or if I dive into them. I haven’t dived into yours, but… The ones you recalled back then, I am aware of. Hence, the reason I don’t need context —I already know about it.”
Henoke’s spike caught Neku by surprise, but he managed to get the hang of the dynamic. Receiving the ball with his forearms —while his hands cupped themselves with one another for grip—, Neku returned the ball somewhat low, forcing Henoke to bounce it back in a similar fashion to Neku. Smirking, he let go of his formation as the ball bounced back his way.
“Heh —let’s see what you’ve got!” he taunted.
The sand at his feet was a pleasant sensation, one that just kept him awake and eager. He couldn’t wait when they’d jump into the water or go for a dive, or maybe just play by the shoreline with racing or volley.
All in all, Neku couldn’t deny it —he was eager to enjoy the day.

”Tch—sneaky!” A grin on his face as he dove forward, he clasped his hands together to form a narrow triangle with his forearms as he hit the ball back towards Neku. It was forced to arc lower than before at a slower pace, much to the merc’s advantage. Henoke rolled back to his feet quickly as the sand dusted off of him. He hadn’t expected a low serve back—it was a good tactic. He’s a step ahead o’ me, huh? His competitive side flared once more as his grin grew—a flare in his eyes as his head got in the game. He wouldn’t let a low serve catch him off guard again.
Readying himself, Henoke seemed to be focused and eager—a ball of energy waiting to unleash itself as his golden eyes feasted on the arcing ball that headed to Neku. I got this! He’d try some different tactics himself, now that it was obvious his spike wasn’t enough to catch the guy unaware. Always having been a fan of athletic games and competition, the teen was in his element, clearly enjoying himself as the morning settled in. It was way more fun than when he was a kid, trying to play with those troublesome guys. They were always taking things too far and wussing out halfway through. Neku was different. The guy had a good air of sportsmanlike competition around him, something that was refreshing for someone like Henoke.

“I don’t need ‘context’ —I’ve already seen it” The comment caught Yuto off-guard. “I… Have a pretty… unique ability, and that is to see people’s memories —all of it, whether I want to or not..." He listened to Tori's explanation. "Really, huh? That's pretty cool. He let a warm smile rest on his face.
It seemed like telling him about this skill was hard for her. "If it makes you feel any better, you're not the first to see into my heart." Yuto remembered his own trip there, and what it had led to. He laughed it off and looked at Tori with a soft gaze. "Besides, it makes things easier if I don't have to explain anything." He laughed as another thought struck him. "And, honestly, Mei reminds me of the girl you saw." Assuming she did actually see everything Tori would've seen his friend who was there with him. Nox was naturally softer and more reserved than most. The similarities were amusing.
"Anyway, now that that's out of the way, what have I missed in the past seventeen-hundred years?"

Tori blinked a bit, shocked by how easily he accepted the reality. Given how others had reacted before him, she wasn’t expecting it at all. A few seconds later, however, she chuckled, noting how her nerves had gotten the better of her. Hearing how she hadn’t been the first added to her shock, but less noticeable this time. Assuming it was someone who dived into it rather than seeing it, she dismissed the thought. She perked up when he mentioned “a girl”, although given that he was remembering her at that time, it didn’t take long to know who he was talking about.
“What have I missed in the past seventeen-hundred years?" His question was the embodiment of nonchalant. Either he was forcing it, or it was a genuine feel —Tori couldn’t tell that from a glance. Crossing her arms as she pouted in thought, Tori looked away.
“Well… Depends on what it is you want to be made aware of” she replied after a bit, “Plenty of things can happen in just a short amount of time, and given that you are aware of how long you have been absent… You can guess what I’m getting at, can’t you?” she finished, chuckling.
“Well, that’s the name of the game —catch the other off-guard!”
As Neku bounced the ball above his head with the help of his fingers back towards Henoke, he smirked. The game had already begun, but it was too fun to simply drop any second in the near future. Given his opponent’s eagerness…
Why not answer it?
The ball bounced back and forth between the two, time seemingly not moving anymore as their focus was solely to catch the other off-guard, requiring thought and speed in order to achieve it. His competitive soul had been ignited —Neku wasn’t one to give up easily, nor one who appreciated easy wins, either. Not that Henoke would hand over defeat easily —that much he could tell.
“Sorry I’m late!”
An already known female voice shouted at a distance —Mei, rushing towards the pair after having seen them. Neku stopped his focus on the ball, turning around to meet Mei, who after catching up, rested her body on her knees as she gasped for air.
“I’m really sorry… But there were so many things I had to do at home last minute…” she apologized.
