Character Name: Erkki (EHR-kee)
Character Age: Seventeen (17)
Character Race: Reaper
Character Gender: Agender
♦ ABOUT THE CHARACTER ♦
Character Personality:
Erkki was a Support Reaper from Shibuya once upon a time. Now adrift within sleeping worlds, Erkki's current goal is to find a way to resolve outstanding matters surrounding their entry fee.
Erkki seems to be a calm individual upon meeting. They seem easygoing and lax at first, usually resorting to gentle smiles and casual speech towards those they meet. They like to joke and tease others whenever the mood suits them and can be encouraging and supportive at the right times. While they seem determined to upkeep this calm persona, their true personality becomes apparent very quickly.
Erkki loves challenges and bets. An opportunity to compete against others is one Erkki would take up whenever possible. While not one to stew over their losses, Erkki aims to win and resort to whatever they could to attain victory. Cheap tactics, loopholes, and outright cheats are a part of Erkki's repertoire when push comes to shove. Erkki is mischievous as they are daredevil-ish -- and while they are not careless, they enjoy taking risks whenever presented. At worst, they are unapologetically impulsive.
Erkki understands the value of playing things safe and can empathize with more careful persons, as their circumstances leading into their current position have been teaching them. However, this is a relatively recent development. Erkki is naive as well and prone to questioning things at face value at best.
As of current, Erkki has sworn off of acting upon their anger. While the terms set for this restraint are currently up in the air, Erkki believes it is better to uphold them. For this reason, Erkki practices self-control; their quieter moments or sudden pauses in conversation are due in part to them keeping their end of these terms. Erkki is no stranger to anger all the same and actively struggles with keeping their temper in control.
♦ TL;DR:

Character Appearance:
Erkki has dark skin and two different colored eyes: one a red-brown, another a pear green. Their pale green hair can often seem teal in other lights and is maintained in a wavy bob that ends beneath their pierced ears. As they are dead and virtually immortal, they are perpetually seventeen in appearance.
Within the Realground -- the plane that, assumingly, all non-Reaper and non-Noise entities reside across the worlds -- Erkki looks like an ordinary human. However, within the Underground and Noise Planes, a pair of black wings can be found on Erkki's back. These wings are graphic, as if they were created with an ink pen, and are skeletal in their frame.
Erkki’s sense of fashion is casual and meant for daily outings upon city streets. They are typically fitted with solid-colored t-shirts and jeans, with a black or red hoodie fitted over them. They consistently wear a scarf fitted with rings at its ends, two silver hoop piercings on their ears, and silver chain-rings along each of their pointer fingers. A series of buttons can be found pinned onto their topmost layer of clothing: a key-like one, a Leopard-printed one, a pin with several syringes on its face, and a Jellyfish-like one. They own a grey flip phone with a few marine-life charms attached to it.
Erkki can usually be seen with their hands in their pockets during conversations, fiddling with whatever may be inside them or with the rings on their fingers. They tend to keep unwavering eye-contact with whoever they are talking to.
♦ BATTLE STATISTICS ♦
Character Position: Neurtal
Character Spells:
♦ 1. Pin 176 - Leopard (Spell: Curaga) A pin that casts a Curaga-like effect on Erkki when tapped. This ability can only be used within the Noise Plane, and only as long as Erkki possesses Leopard. Lasts: Immediately available within the Noise Plane; immediately unavailable outside of the Noise Plane. Cooldown: Four times per thread. |
♦ 2. Pin 282 - Jelly (Spell: Thundaga) A pin that can be used for two purposes: to summon Jelly Noise, or as a spell. As a spell, this pin allows Erkki to fire a bolt of electricity at a target similar to Thundaga. It may be channelled into a weaker spell in order to fill other uses, such as powering machinery or charging a battery, so long as Erkki is in the Noise Plane and so long as they possess this pin. This pin cannot be used in the same post that Erkki summons Jelly Noise with it. Lasts: Immediately available within the Noise Plane; immediately unavailable outside of the Noise Plane. Cooldown: Three posts. |
♦ 3. Level 1 Wall Erkki can set up an invisible-looking wall that emits visible honeycomb-like patterns upon contact. This wall can only be big enough to block the space between two buildings, and requires a Level 1 Keypin or higher to set up and take down. This wall can withstand most attacks, though especially powerful attacks in succession could crack it down. Lasts: As long as Erkki wants to keep it up, or so long as Erkki keeps their Keypin in their possession. Cooldown: Five posts upon the wall being taken down. |
Character Abilities:
♦ 1. Planear Shift (Active) In relation to their racial ability to phase, Erkki can bring entities that are from the following planes into a different plane: The Realground > The Noise Plane > The Underground Permission will always be asked before Erkki follows through with this ability. Erkki can take up to three people into another plane, including themselves. Lasts: As long as Erkki needs to keep people within another plane. Cooldown: Four times per thread. |
♦ 2. Flashstepping (Active) Coupled with their racial ability to phase, Erkki can seem to travel quickly from one point to another. So long as the point in question is within sight, Erkki can flashstep towards it. As this requires focus, Erkki cannot use this in order to dodge attacks or to “teleport” into safe locations. While this may be used in the Realground, Erkki typically saves this for the Underground and Noise Plane. Lasts: Once per post. Cooldown: One post. |
♦ 3. Pin 170 - Lolita Chopper (Passive) A pin that animates Erkki’s chain rings and scarf for battle. Without this pin, Erkki is unable to use these weapons in a fight. This ability only works within the Noise Plane. Lasts: Immediately available within the Noise Plane; immediately unavailable outside of the Noise Plane. Cooldown: N/A |

♦ CHARACTER WEAPONS ♦
♦ Twin Whips (Weapon x2) Erkki owns two innocent-looking chain rings on each of their pointer fingers. Outside of battle, these rings are just that. Whenever Erkki senses they are in danger or they are pulled into a fight within the Noise Plane, these rings manifest into twin whips with bladed tips. Capable of whipping, reaching about ten feet or three meters of length, and wrapping around objects or persons, these are Erkki’s preferred weapons of choice. These Twin Whips are powered by Erkki’s pin Lolita Chopper. Without this pin, these weapons lose their power. |
♦ Scarved Carver (Weapon x2) Erkki wears a scarf that, like their rings, can animate and act whip-like within the Noise Plane. Erkki can perform the same capabilities as above, though they prefer to use their scarf for additional mobility while their whips focused upon the offensive. This scarf is powered by Erkki’s pin Lolita Chopper. Without this pin, these weapons lose their power. |
Character Shotlocks: N/A
Character Summons:
♦ Jelly Noise Jellyfish-like creatures with weak defenses akin to Shadows. Jelly Noise serve vastly to send electric shocks towards opponents and to multiply quickly, overwhelming opponents with large numbers of them. These beings do not possess a mind of their own and only serve to fight. Erkki can only summon them to fight so long as Erkki’s in the Noise Plane, and Jellies may only appear one Jelly at a time. Erkki can immediately dispel all Jellies present at will. This summon can only be used within the Noise Plane, and only as long as Erkki possesses the Jelly pin. Lasts: So long as the Jelly goes undefeated, or so long as Erkki is in the Noise Plane. Cooldown: One Jelly per post; two post cooldown before another Jelly can be summoned. |
Character Racial Ability:
♦ Phasing A Reaper can shift between different planes of existence: There is the Realground, where living entities such as humans and most others reside. Then there is the Underground, where entities like the Reapers can roam about. While entities of the Underground can see those the Realground, those in the Realground cannot perceive the Underground. In fact, Realground entities can completely walk through Underground ones without feeling a thing. Between these planes is the Noise Plane, where entities known as Noise can manifest. This plane is primarily used by the Reapers to fight others. To better illustrate the above, the order of the planes are: The Realground > The Noise Plane > The Underground |
Character Strengths:
Erkki prefers being a fast hitter and is most in-tune with Thunder-elemented attacks. They default to using hit-and-run tactics to understand an obstacle and identify their weaknesses; once they have an idea on how to approach things, Erkki dives towards victory.
They understand the value in working with others and is inclined towards teamwork whenever possible. Their vow to not lose their temper also allows them to assess situations and persons with a leveled head.
Character Weaknesses:
Erkki has defenses akin to a glass cannon; it does not take a lot to knock them out of a fight. They are especially weak to Ice and Aero-based attacks, as they throw Erkki off their game fastest.
While Erkki's vow of anger makes them level headed, especially trying scenarios that can force them to pause and regroup. Erkki is open to getting overwhelmed whenever this happens.
Framing situations as if they were challenges or dares is a surefire way of getting Erkki invested into something, usually for the worse.
♦ CHARACTER HISTORY ♦
Before The Reaper's Game:
Erkki was born and raised within a city similar to those within the real world. The events that follow take place sometime during the late 2000's.
Erkki's childhood was spent with two elder brothers of their own, adopting a competitive streak to rival their siblings' attention and achievements. Their brothers were just as competitive, making Erkki's living environment a continuous cycle of friendly rivalry and heated in-family competitions. Erkki loved their brothers very much, even if they would not allow themselves to lose to their siblings. Erkki's ambitiousness allowed them to make strides of their own and even granted them the ability to see the world, starting with Tokyo.
One day during a visit to Shibuya, Erkki had been on their way towards a meetup with friends when they were killed.
They awoke in the Scramble Crossing, seeming ghost-like to the swarm of passerbys that surrounded them. Things only got stranger for them as they were forced to partner up with another person like themselves to play The Reaper's Game: a daunting game for a second chance at life.
It sounded like a challenge Erkki couldn't back down from.
The Reaper's Game:
Erkki's mettle was tested throughout the Game they played. Their partner was devastated by the entry fee they were saddled with, while Erkki was seemingly unaffected by whatever the Game had taken from them. With no knowledge of their fee, Erkki approached the Game as they had most things at that point: as a challenge to overpower. Their performance caught the attention of Reapers, for good and for ill. However, their partner struggled to keep up, making Erkki and their partner easy prey for the Harrier Reapers.
The Reapers picked their partner off and erased them just as the Game came to an end. At the same time, Erkki themselves was offered a place among the Reapers as a reward for surviving so long; if Erkki refused this offer, they would be erased. Erkki, dismayed at their loss and their partner's erasure, accepted the offer.
Their acceptance into the Reaper ranks allowed Erkki to investigate their own entry fee for their Game. Erkki's search revealed that their brothers were taken from the Realground as their fee. The person who controlled the Game did not acknowledge Erkki's survival as a means to return their brothers to life. With no trace of them in the Underground, Erkki could only think that they were both dead in every account.
This, Erkki decided, was unacceptable.
Diaboro:
Erkki, enraged, approached the most powerful Reaper they knew -- a Reaper known as Diaboro -- and demanded a means to get their brothers back. Even when Erkki's Reaper compatriots told them to stand down, Erkki was blinded by rage and would not listen. Diaboro had no plans on helping Erkki, but there was great interest in just how far Erkki would be willing to go to see their wish through. And so a bet was made between the two:
Diaboro would give direct orders to Erkki to follow. Erkki needed to complete them in secret without ever becoming angry. In turn, Diaboro swore off of anger as well. If Diaboro ever lost his temper, Diaboro would listen to Erkki's demands. But if Erkki lost their temper or reveal their bet with Diaboro to others, they would be erased and Erkki's brothers would remain dead.
Erkki agreed to these terms.
Erkki struggled with this bet initially; realizing just how often Erkki acted upon their anger as of late, they had to think up ways to work around Diaboro's terms. In addition, Diaboro made demands that pushed Erkki to their limits: from selfish calls to indulge him, to getting rid of Players and low-ranking Reapers that Diaboro wanted out of his sight. But a challenge was a challenge, and Erkki had no intention on standing down.
Their ambitiousness and cleverness managed to keep Erkki afloat for some time. Finding loopholes within Diaboro's requests and learning to channel their rage elsewhere became more manageable with each day. While Diaboro had yet to lose his temper, it was looking as if Erkki was on the road to victory…
That was, before the Reaper's Game plunged into slumber.
Now adrift within sleeping worlds, Erkki finds themselves within the sleeping worlds. With no sign of Diaboro nor any familiar faces thereof, Erkki has to make even more adjustments to their life than before.
It is a wonder if Erkki would ever allow themselves to express anger again, nevermind bring their brothers back to life.
♦ TL;DR: Erkki played The Reaper's Game in Shibuya. They survived long enough to be recruited among the Reapers. Erkki then learned that the price they payed to play for a second chance at life was their brothers' lives. Enraged, Erkki made a bet with the most powerful Reaper they knew, Diaboro: if Erkki won, Diaboro would listen to Erkki's demands. If Erkki lost, however, Erkki would be erased, and their brothers would remain dead. All Erkki had to do was follow Diaboro's orders and not lose their temper and make Diaboro lose his instead. Erkki had been close to winning this bet until Shibuya was placed in a slumbering state. Erkki now wanders the slumbering worlds, upkeeping their bet while finding a way to bring their brothers back to life. |
♦ WRITING PORTION ♦
Sample Post:
"And you wanted me to start posting these flyers around a third time because...?"
Erkki said it politely enough towards the Moogle in front of them. But it huffed at them and snapped a nubby hand in their direction.
"Because!" The Moogle squeaked, authoritatively waving its little arms, "Because you've been pulling your weight, and you've got room to pull more, kupo! Business' been booming thanks to you, and it's got everything to do with you advertising my shop in every corner've town. So if you really put your back into this round, my shop'll be the biggest hit in town. I'm not gonna let this sorta opportunity pass me by, kupo!"
Erkki nodded along as they held their tongue. As far as Erkki knew, Traverse Town was a ghost town. They hadn't seen anyone else besides themselves talk to this Moogle. Heck, that could have been the whole reason why Erkki was saddled with this work as soon as they tried to strike up a conversation with this Moogle. Several jobs in and Erkki hasn't made much progress in finding anyone else.
It was frustrating, but Erkki would deal with it. This was far from the worst thing they've had to do.
"Are you listening up there?" The Moogle's voice took on a grating edge. "I'm telling you to get back to work. Unless you think you can find someplace else to stay the night."
Erkki flashed a sheepish grin. "Hah... got me there, boss," they said, keeping their tone friendly sounding. Truth be told, they could find someplace else to stay easily; a ghost town like this one should have loads of vacancies. But if someone else was in this town -- someone like Erkki -- then sticking close to a business like a general store was Erkki's best way to find someone else.
It would take a lot more than a bossy creature to drive Erkki away at any point, especially at the moment.
"Great! Now get to it, kupo-po!!"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll be back!" Erkki inclined their head towards the Moogle and strode away from the shop. Once they were out of sight from it, Erkki scanned their surroundings. Still nobody around, from the looks of it.
They could tackle this job like they did the last few times: by phasing into the Underground version of Traverse Town, Erkki could fly around and phase back into the Realground to spread flyers in every corner. It didn't seem to matter where they did it exactly; the Moogle seemed convinced that whatever Erkki was doing was right. That and: without other Reapers in plain sight or any immediate reprimands, the shortcut seemed ideal. This time around, though, Erkki opted to stick to the Realground and travel on foot throughout the rest of the town.
Besides, even if it was a job that they've done before, it wasn't as if it had to be boring.
"Let's see... how about..." Erkki hummed and tilted their head up. "We try to get these flyers up on those really high spots on these buildings without flying." It'd be enough of a challenge to keep them occupied while being weird enough to catch people's attention: either with Erkki actively putting flyers up that high, or with people investigating the general store advertised.
It was a matter of time before they found something... or if something found them.

♦ ADDITIONAL NOTES ♦
Character Hobbies and Activities:
♦ Challenges Erkki likes to take these on in nearly all forms. It typically does not matter what the challenge is: whether it is to take on an eating contest, or if it is to clear an area of enemies within a time limit, or even if it's to fulfill a dare between friends. Erkki likes establishing these as a form of getting to know people they've come to know. |
♦ Scouting Erkki's ability to phase between planes allows them to sneak around in the Underground and remain undetected in the Realground. Erkki liked using this in order to get a better handle of their surroundings undisturbed, as well as carry out Diaboro's demands. With no Diaboro to speak of, Erkki is free to use their scouting hobby for other means. |
♦ Intel gathering Going hand in hand with scouting, Erkki can gather intel on most things thanks to their ability to travel in a different plane. As for what intel they gather in particular, that has yet to be seen. In the past, it was helpful to Erkki to learn about the ongoings of the Realgrounders in order to perform tasks for Diaboro. Nowadays, it serves as an ideal means to learn about what Erkki could do next. |
♦ Cooking...?! Erkki likes to mess with food and combine ingredients, but by no means are they a good cook. This development is fairly recent: after death, Erkki had to maintain their own meals, and they currently believe that cooking and making food for others was a great skill to pick up. Which... it is. But not when Erkki is the one doing it. Their efforts to make "ordinary" food much more exciting leaves much to be desired -- and even when the outcomes of their experiments seem to have crawled out of ghastly machinations, Erkki eats them and innocently expects others to do the same. It's possible that Erkki is unaffected because they're dead, but... hm. The bottom line is: there are better things to do than to try Erkki's food. Much better, and much safer, things. |
Character Relationships (NPC):
♦ Mother and Father Erkki had an amiable relationship to these two. After death, Erkki has not thought about them in some time. |
♦ Brothers Erkki had two brothers: Iivo and Niclas. The three of them were notorious for competing with each other on even the littlest of things. It is these boys' influence that made Erkki who they were before death. With the Reaper's Game taking Iivo and Niclas' lives as Erkki's entry fee, Erkki still wishes to find a way to bring them both back to life... even when they are in entirely new territory. |
♦ Erkki's Partner Erkki's partner had an entry fee that hindered their ability to keep up with the Game. Despite this, they and Erkki made it to the final day of the Game before they were erased by Reapers. Erkki seems to harbor vastly positive feelings towards their partner, and were dismayed when they were erased. Erkki has not thought about their late partner in some time. |
♦ Diaboro A Reaper that was said to be the most powerful in Shibuya. Erkki made a bet with him in order to bring his brothers back to life. The nature of this bet is muddier now thanks in part to Shibuya entering a state of slumber, though Erkki hopes to upkeep their end in case the bet is on. |
Favorite Foods:
♦ Seafood A weakness of Erkki's in a playful sense; Erkki adores having any fish or sea food for any type of meal. They are especially a fan of crabs and sushi, and a home-made fish chowder that Erkki strives to recreate one day. |
♦ Seaweed Seaweed is a preferred snack, and goes well with most other foods... according to Erkki. |
