Necro frowned, looking at Yuto as he came up with a possible solution —although the Familiar doubted it. He felt what Kosuke felt, after all, and the dragon knew something was wrong. Another thing was understanding it, though, and the Familiar didn’t really understand it without any sort of context.
"You get a bird's eye view, I'll ask around. Let me know if you see him." Necro nodded, cheerful and eager, before bolting over the crowd in search for Kosuke, while Yuto asked around in case someone had seen Kosuke around. He wouldn’t have too much luck at first, with so many people focused on the festivities.
Eventually, however, he’d find someone who’s seen him.
“…You mean to say that swordsman that crossed through the crowds all the way towards the piers? It’s that way —he couldn’t have gotten further away, if you’re after him.”
Kosuke panted, his expression one full of pain, with the memories wanting to surface but unable to. The scenery had felt so similar at the beginning, and it had bothered him just too much to ignore at one point, chasing after ghosts from a distant past. Had he been to that world already? Or was it just his memories playing more and more tricks to his heart, deceiving him with fake promises and broken images?
“Kosuke…”
A voice startled him from thought, turning around to meet with a woman around his age —perhaps a bit older by a year or two. Her light-blonde hair fell down her shoulders and back, the tips slightly tinted light-blue, and her clear blue eyes looked at him with concern. Her expression, a calm one, was looking back at him with a somewhat painful smile.
“…Who are you?” “…So, you really did forget…”
The comment hurt him —stinging in a way he didn’t expect. Before he knew it, he was hanging onto his head, groaning in frustration as his heart couldn’t show him the memories he wanted. Not knowing who was in front, and yet feeling such familiarity from the mere sight, was enough to make one lose their better judgement.
Kosuke grabbed onto his hair, shaking his head as he tried to make sense of what was happening, but unable to do so. The memories trying to break through the mist concealing them were being pushed back by an unknown force, leaving him clueless and with a pain that hurt him more than anything. Obviously, the image of the blonde woman was inside his head —an Illusion of his broken memories, an image only he could see, but no one else could.
“There! Found him, Yuto!”

With a quick thanks to the person who saw Kosuke, he ran off towards the pier. He'd worry about finding the man when he got there. 'There's gotta be someone who saw him pass through here. A fisherman, maybe?' Yuto scanned the pier as he ran, hoping that he could find the teen before having to ask around.
“There! Found him, Yuto!” The man looked up to see Necro overhead. Following the Familiar, it wasn't long before he caught up to his friend. "Hey, Kosuke! You alright?" He put a hand on the teen's shoulder, a bit concerned. "You really shouldn't run off in a new world on your own." He didn't say it to chastise the man, but he couldn't think of anything else at the moment.
"Mind if I ask why? It's ok if not." He wanted to be sure Kosuke was ok, or atleast ok enough to keep on.

"Hey, Kosuke! You alright?"
The swordsman perked up, startled by a hand suddenly resting in his shoulder, only to find Yuto at the other end of it. Necro was also near, a childish curiosity evident in his expression, tilting his head a bit wanting to know why Kosuke had run off. Things were silent for a bit, before Yuto chastised him for running off —although it didn’t have any firmness behind it, just a mild comment instead of a proper scolding. Yet the fact that he’d chased after something as feeble as illusions, leaving the two behind, soured his mood a lot more than it should’ve.
“Kosuke…?” Necro asked, a faint pout, “What happened?” “I… I don’t know…” Kosuke replied, looking down, shaking his head softly, “I just… Chased after something…” “Something?”
Looking down, Kosuke clamed up, unsure on what to say. He didn’t even know how to explain what he saw —the blonde woman with pale blue eyes. The pale blue eyes that looked at him with concern and even melancholy. An image that tried to pry through the mist of forgetfulness. Broken memories that wanted to be back together —memories he wanted back together.
The dragon frowned, unsure on what he could do to help. Yuto had asked why he’d run off, and while he had explained some of it, it was almost like Kosuke was struggling to explain, rather than hiding it from the pair. Despite the fact that he could feel what Kosuke felt, Necro had trouble understand what was causing it.
“Hey…” “…There was someone —the one I ended up chasing…” Kosuke said, “But…I don’t know who they were. It felt like I should’ve, though…” “Someone… You should know?” “Mm… It was a woman, blonde with… Pale blue eyes.” “…Oh —so that’s why…”
Kosuke perked up, looking at the dragon, while Necro turned towards Yuto with a somewhat knowing look. There had been something that might’ve made Kosuke remember —but it might be a stretch. Still, better worth the shot, right?
“D’you remember? That mosaic back at the Plaza” the dragon said, “There was a blonde person in it, right? But I think they weren’t too grown-up…” “It wasn’t that, Necro —that much, I’m sure of” Kosuke cut him off. “Hu~h?” “I think it was more the atmosphere that got me to remember… It felt familiar, remember?”
The dragon pouted, apparently bitter at his assumption being wrong, but Kosuke didn’t mind it. Taking a deep breath, he looked at Yuto with a faint smile, pushing slowly the hand at his shoulder away, not needing it anymore. Standing up and firm, he nodded faintly.
“Sorry I worried you two —running off like that” he apologized, “I’m okay now. So… Let’s keep seeing what’s in store?”

Yuto listened to the explanation patiently. It was far from the weirdest thing he'd ever experienced, so he didn't mind. "So, you were chasing a memory? That's...a bit heartbreaking, actually." He thought for a moment. before an idea struck him. "Maybe, if the atmosphere got you to start to remember then if we continue the festivities you might remember more."
I was a bit of a long-shot, but it was the only idea he had to try and help Kosuke. There was the option of taking him to see The Vagabond, but the last thing Yuto wanted was that conversation. Besides, it was a coin-flip on whether or not he'd actually be able to help.
The way I figure, there's two of us to keep an eye on you, so if you go running off again one of us should see which way you go."

Kosuke glanced over at Yuto, wondering what he’d made of all his explanation. He seemed to understand some of the problems behind it, but instead of letting it dampen the mood, he was quick to suggest that maybe joining on the festivities would help him remember. Both Spirit and Familiar looked at the man as he made the suggestion, mentioning how, if Kosuke happened to run off elsewhere, either Necro or Yuto himself would follow after him, just in case.
“Yeah, that’s a great idea!” Necro said eager, before looking at Kosuke, “If something back in town nudged something inside that head of yours, then we have a really high chance of you remembering what you’ve lost!” “I… We could give it a shot, I guess…” Kosuke brought a hand to his chin, thoughtful, “Though… What little I have remembered is—” “Who cares ‘bout that!? So long as you remember something, it’ll be good! We can take of making sense on it later!” “Urgh…”
Kosuke visibly faltered, as Necro peered closer with a somewhat reprimanding glare, trying to get the man into less talking and more moving. Eventually the dragon soared fast past them, aiming back towards the town, before stopping a little ahead and ushering the other two to follow.
“C’mon —there’s bound to be lots more to see around! We can’t take any more time, y’know!” “…” with a sigh, Kosuke resigned himself, before glancing over at Yuto with an uneasy smile, “Guess we should do what he says, right? ‘Sides… If you two are gonna keep an eye on me if I end up running off… I guess we don’t lose anything, do we?”
With that said, he waited for Yuto before heading towards Necro, all of them making their way back into the festive town. The people were merry, some dancing while others drinking and eating. It was a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy, something that eventually brought Kosuke to a smile.
If in such a place he could remember… Maybe it was okay to keep some hope up.

The two had seemed to agree with Yuto's idea, on some level anyway. Necro was a bit more it than Kosuke, but eventually, the dragon talked him into it. The way the two interacted with each other caused Yuto to stifle a laugh. It reminded him of the kinds of conversations he would have with some of his friends back home.
“C’mon —there’s bound to be lots more to see around!" The dragon had a point, there was a lot to do and not much time to do it. “Guess we should do what he says, right?" He gestured for Kosuke to go first. "So long as you don't magically disappear on us again, I don't see a need to worry." A wry smile graced the man's lips. He had some level of concern, but he held out hope that this would ultimately be good for Kosuke.
"Besides, worst case is: nothing happens and we enjoy the festival. Now lets get a move on before Necro gets antsy."

This time, Kosuke didn’t hold back —Yuto’s comment had brought a genuine laugh from the bottom of his heart, and a truthful smile graced his expression. It was better with company, after all, even if they had only met recently. While Necro soared forward, eager to find out something nice for a change, Kosuke remained by Yuto’s side, grateful for the aid.
“Really, now…” he sighed, “I guess I should start trusting you a little more, huh?” Kosuke glanced over at Yuto, “In the sense that, maybe, you’re really just trying to help me out, despite having said nothing… But you’re right —the worst thing that can happen is that we simply enjoy the festival going on now. I shouldn’t look too much into it, anyways —if I end up remembering something, it’s just how it should be. Nothing to get overly worked over.” “He~y! Hurry it up~!” Necro shouted at a distance, “I’ll leave without you two, otherwise!” “Like you would…”
Kosuke began to walk forward, not before signaling Yuto to follow, heading back to the main events at the Plaza. People were still merry, dancing and laughing at the tune of a melody echoing throughout the streets. Once again, Necro had taken his spot in the sky, not wanting to startle too many people and instead remaining hidden, whereas Kosuke didn’t seem to mind. Knowing he had others looking after him eased the worst of his worries —the worry that a memory might surface at an improper time. If it did, he had someone he could talk about it with, even if they didn’t understand it fully.
That alone would suffice. He should’ve figured as much.
“So… Where do we go from here…?” he pondered, looking around the plaza, “There’s so much to do, by the looks of things… Do you have any preference?” Kosuke asked Yuto, “If not… I guess we’ll just continue to wander about.”

Yuto followed Kosuke, glad that he accepted the man's offer to help. Emerging back into the festivities of the day, he thought about Kosuke's question of what to do. There were so many things to do and buy, from food to games to people performing. Yuto thought for a moment. "You know, I think wandering around is probably the best option. Maybe get some food along the way at some point." He gestured for Kosuke to lead the way.
After a few minutes of walking, Yuto decided to break the silence. "So, I've been thinking..." The man tried to find a good way to phrase his question. "The Realm Between, what can you tell me about it? If you remember, of course. Also, are there more of you guys running around? You did mention you guys didn't really mix well with this realm."
The man was genuinely curious, and he wanted to try and get to know more about the teen he was currently wandering this world with.

Kosuke nodded with some enthusiasm, leading the way throughout the stalls and festivities looking for something interesting to do. While not suddenly, it was enough to quell his anxiety and fears, until they were gone. Once again, they were at the back of his head, waiting for him to be calmer in order to tackle them. Those memories wouldn’t go anywhere —not anymore. Necro would make sure of that, helping Kosuke face them head-on, without breaking down. As they wandered around, Yuto began to talk, catching Kosuke’s attention. He seemed to struggle on the phrasing of it all, but he could’ve just asked directly —Kosuke didn’t mind if he was blunt about the subject. Hearing how it was due to his own fuzzy memory, Yuto made his point as he began to ask about the Realm Between. “You did mention you guys didn't really mix well with this realm." The man couldn’t help but smile with some unease at the last comment, but Yuto wasn’t wrong —Spirits weren’t supposed to co-exist in those worlds. Figuring that it was better to answer what he could, Kosuke began to formulate his reply.
“Well… There are bits and pieces I can recall…” Kosuke began, “Though… Hmm…” he crossed his arms, figuring what words to use, “The Realm Between, or the Realm of Twilight as I know it, is that —what lies between the Realms of Light and Darkness. You could say it’s the balance between the two.”
As he finished his first explanation, Kosuke noted a stall selling treats. He had some munny on him, and on a whim, decided to purchase both for him and Yuto. They were hand-sized treats, akin to pies, with caramelized apples and sweet dough. Kosuke gave it a bite, simply wanted to take some time to answer things properly to Yuto. Once enough time passed, and wandering around a little more, he continued. “I only know of one world within the Realm Between… But the memory itself is rather… Foggy…” he hummed, a bit uncomfortable, “All I know is that it’s a place precious to me… Which makes the fact that I’ve forgotten about it the harder to cope with…”
He sighed, taking yet another bite of his treat, half-way through it. In a sense, it was a good thing Necro wasn’t around —he’d probably try to drive the conversation elsewhere, but Kosuke didn’t want to keep Yuto in the dark if he could help it. Finally, his last question. “There are other Spirits aside us —some being on the good side, while others not… In any case, we’re not supposed to be here, because of what we’re capable of —but some Spirits don’t exactly take that too well… So they rebel —they’re what I know as ‘Traitors’” he finished, looking at Yuto, “People who accept the fact that we’re meant to be this way, and embrace it, are known as ‘Loyals’. I wanna say I fall into that spectrum, but… Since I don’t remember well, I can’t say for sure.”

Yuto listened to the explanation intently. This seemed like something not many people would know about, so he took it as an opportunity to learn. Thoughtfully eating his treat, the man did his best to formulate his next line of questioning.
"So, is there anyone of note I should look out for? If there are more Spirits like you out there I'm sure you've had to meet at least one or two." The question and statement may have been personal, but he was too fascinated to really notice.
The festival around them went on as the two continued to walk, the man finished his treat and took a look at a vendor selling flowers. He bought a few and handed one to Kosuke and one to Necro while keeping one for himself.
"A gift, for...trusting in me enough to share part of your story, I guess. It was the closest thing that was being sold." He put the other one in a safe place and continued to walk through the festival.

"So, is there anyone of note I should look out for?”
Upon hearing the question, Kosuke hummed in thought, the almost-finished pie still in his hand, though far away from Necro, who wished for nothing other than the remaining piece —yet did Familiars even need food, or was it a simple whim of the dragon? Finding an accurate answer for Yuto’s inquiry, the swordsman found himself shocked by the sudden gift. A flower could mean a lot of things, for anyone, but somehow, the gesture felt friendly and even inviting for Kosuke. Hearing the reasoning for it, he chuckled.
“You don’t have to, but… Thanks” Kosuke thanks him, “Though it’s not like you gotta gift people something just because they entrusted you with something. It holds more weight if you just… Take it, y’know?” “Say what you want —I’m happy I got something out of all this!” Necro cheered. “Suit yourself, bud.”
It was getting dark, the sun slowly but surely setting in the horizon, yet the festivities continued to go on. All in all, though no familiar experiences surfaced back from Kosuke’s heart, there was still a sense of joy in knowing he could at least remember what was happening now. He still had to keep in mind, however, that they’d encountered Heartless in that world before —just because they weren’t around didn’t mean they were gone.
A few people’s shouts began to grow in volume, their advertisements calling the attention of most, if not all the people in the plaza. Upon better look, the trio would notice that what they sold were paper lamps with various printed motifs on them, yet the buyers weren’t lighting them just yet. Curious enough to inquire, Kosuke decided to go ask and give it a try. He still had some leftover money, but surely the lamps weren’t too expensive?
“…Oh, you don’t know?” the seller asked, before taking a good look at Kosuke, “Well, you do look like a traveler —so first time here in the Festival of Lights?” “Festival of… Lights?” “Yeah. People grab a lantern, and light it up with a single prayer —for the Lost Princess to find her way back. At least, that’s the hope the king and queen have, and truth be told, they’re good people. So why not lend them a hand and be a part of this?” “…” Kosuke seemed to stagger slightly, thinking a bit. “Are you gonna get one?” Necro asked in a whisper. “…How much do they cost?” he asked, almost immediately. “Cost? Boy, you should’ve guessed by now that these are distributed by the royal family themselves, after the story I told you. You don’t need to pay a penny, if that’s what you need to know.”
As if to ascertain what was just said, the seller shoved Kosuke a pair of lanterns, though carefully enough so that they wouldn’t break, before giving clear instructions on when to light them. Caught off-guard with the sudden verbal lashing, Kosuke didn’t seem to catch onto it very well, nervous as he was trying to make sense of everything, but with the crowd suddenly growing bigger and cramming up around them, maybe it was best to not repeat his questions and instead move elsewhere, where there were less people.
Thankfully, however, Necro was keen enough to remember every detail that the seller had told them —to not light the lamps until they say the lamp at the tallest tower of the castle float by them.
