Crossing through the light from the empty hallway in the Brigade’s HQ, all the way in Milennia, the sound of seagulls and the brisk sea breeze would immediately hit the two travelers making their way through a corridor of misty light. The mirth of a lively town would greet them upon arrival, with the taste of salt and the sight of fishing nets hanging half-way on many ships’ railings, touching the sea water—the slabs of wood creaking underneath people’s weight at parts, while others were sturdy steps above slabs of polished white stone. Over the large blue sea, adorned with docks and ships at the lower parts of the place, bright white buildings far above sea level would be visible, with many stone bridges connecting the small built islets shining against the broad daylight.
The place the duo had arrived in was close to an open plaza, where many people of different races gathered left and right. With the bright sun warming all those who basked in its light, at the center of the agglomeration laid a giant crystal, metallic circles and other ornate decorations around it, as the crystal glowed with a soothing light-blue light. Here, there were many interacting with the pristine crystal, making who knows what sort of things with it, while others seemingly were catching up to the rumors of the port, or making ends meet.
From their view-point, which was a slightly darker alley in the open streets of the city, they could see countless people of different races running back and forth, hollering shouts akin to sailors by the most part. Some were like M’Lyn, with car ears and tails camouflaged with their attire. Others were like Kujo —regular humans with regular enough builds, wearing their own apparel. Some, however, begged to differ —with some tall men and women with elven ears and slender figures, or small, dwarf-like people with either short or long ears and petite noses, some even colored. Some were massive, with their skin tones edging towards the tones of green or blue, with muscular builds in both genders carrying either enormous weapons fitting their size, or luggage, crates and sacks.
Such was the variety living in the world known as Hydaelyn.
M’Lyn blinked a bit, shocked to actually be back in one of the major city states in Eorzea —this one being the city-state of Limsa Lominsa, a city full of sailors, rogues and pirates, all led under the command of the High Admiral, Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn. That’s how the Miqo’te remembered it, unsure if it still held true. Who knew how much time had passed, since she last stepped on the docks of Limsa? How long had it been since she last heard the stillness of Ul’dah’s deserts?
And how long had it been, since she last stepped in her home state of Gridania, surrounded by green, tall trees and silent rivers? The thought was heavy, but hardly affected the Miqo’te in question, as she stepped forward unbothered by the amount of activity —already used to it.
“…It actually worked” she said, cold and collected as usual, “We actually arrived in Eorzea…” M’Lyn scoffed, glancing over at Kujo with a coy smirk, “To think —that power you wished for is this useful… Where the Brigade’s failed, you’re actually able to comply.” “Oi —reminder that I’m listening!”
Once more, M’Lyn smirked, as Lid’s voice echoed through the comms —still connected to the underground facility in Milennia. The Miqo’te of course knew the mechanic was listening, saying the comment purely out of amusement rather than spite. It held true, however, given that the Brigade had been unable to locate her homeworld for a year now, and yet Kujo swooped in and found it in what seemed to be only a fleeting moment.
Regardless, their objective had nothing to do with the debate M’Lyn and Lid held only for a second in the comms —they were in Eorzea to search for someone, that being Y’shtola. Given that Limsa wasn’t her home state, the Miqo’te hardly had any home-sickness written in her expression, remaining collected throughout the whole ordeal, and focused completely on the task at hand.
“We’re currently in Limsa… If I recall correctly, the last I saw her, Maester Y’shtola was investigating something here in this very state” the Miqo’te reminisced, turning towards Kujo, “We have a likely chance to find her here, but if not… We might need to go to Ul’dah, where we usually gather.”
“So, let’s start looking around. Perhaps a sailor or two knows about Maester Y’shtola’s current whereabouts.”

Having passed through the tearing portal created by his Akogare, Kujo’s emerald eyes squinted and glared in protest to the blaring light. Whoosh… A gentle sea breeze prickled his skin, his dark hair unmoving as his vision came back into focus. Having emerged in a shaded alley in the middle of a lively port town in the middle of the day, Kujo was quick to take in his surroundings, noticing the variety of locals passing through the plaza stretching out beyond the alley before them. Tch—can’t I catch a break? Crossing his arms with a mild sigh, he once more realized that he’d be on yet another bizarre adventure from here on out. ”It actually worked.” The Miqo’te’s tone hardly betrayed any surprise she may have felt at finally reaching her home world, at long last. ”We actually arrived in Eorzea…” Scoffing a bit, M’Lyn was quick to jab at the Brigade, causing Kujo to resist a faint smirk threatening to emerge as he rolled his eyes, hearing Lid’s retort crackling through their ear-comm devices. ”Of course it did.”
Despite having not known much about the Miqo’te’s world, as well as never having been to it, Kujo hadn’t doubted his Akogare’s abilities for a second. Always self-assured and confident in his own powers, it seemed the man was hardly surprised that they had indeed reached their set destination. ”We’re currently in Limsa…if I recall correctly, the last I saw her, Master Y’shtola was investigating something here in this very state.” Nodding as he listened, Kujo was hardly phased by the fact that none of the names M’Lyn was saying meant anything to him. All that mattered was that she knew where this ‘Master’ was. Apparently, they were close...'ish'. ”So, let’s start looking around.” Thankfully, if the Miqo’te had any homesickness, it didn’t phase her. The two didn’t have time to sight-see, after all. Even if time worked differently between worlds, and they had Lid keeping track for them back in Milennia, Jack’s state would only worsen if they found no answers to the ‘Liz’ problem.
”…” Nodding and following M’Lyn out from the alley they had arrived in, one of the first things Kujo would take of note (other than the bizarre groups of locals roaming about) would be the massive crystal, pulsing and shimmering with its own aura and light in the center of the plaza. An energy source...? Considering the environment around him, the stoic man knew that the world had its own advancements in technology, though clearly it was far from what he was used to in his own home world, or even Milennia. He sensed something from it—a sense of power—though he wasn’t well versed enough in those arts to truly comprehend its significance at first glance. In a sense, the man’s mind was immediately pulled to Elena, wondering if the woman’s own ‘partner’, the crystal she spoke of, was something similar… Tucking the thought away for later, Kujo would follow M'Lyn's lead as she asked about this 'Master'. All the while, the tall and colorfully clad man would often scrutinize the locals, wondering exactly how many odd varieties of characters they'd find on this world.

Calm, yet sure of herself, M’Lyn walked forward, ignoring the already dimming crowd on the Aetheryte Plaza. While the Miqo’te blended in just fine, Kujo was most likely a center of attention, particularly due to his attire being rather… Flashy. Eyes would take quick glimpses, however, immediately returning to whatever it was they were up to. Most likely, while an interesting subject, Kujo didn’t spark too much suspicion.
M’Lyn had a direction in mind, a place where she was certain to get the information she was after. Y’shtola often times collaborated with the Maelstrom’s officials and recruits, knowing all there was to know about the Primals in Vylbrand, as well as all the happenings in Limsa. Asking there first was bound to bring help, no?
Heading straight to Maelstrom Command, M’Lyn began to inquire —without much luck. The most notable of details was that Y’shtola wasn’t in Limsa, nor had she been there recently. The Miqo’te clicked her tongue, unsure on where to head on next. Sure, the other destination she had in mind was the Waking Sands, all the way in Thanalan —a region they could easily reach by ferry.
But she had no possible reassurance on whether her hunch was correct or not —they didn’t have time to look around.
“This isn’t good…” M’Lyn crossed her arms, thoughtful, “The other option’s the Waking Sands… Surely someone there can tell us about Y’shtola’s whereabouts” she nodded, “We need to go to the Docks —from there, Thanalan is just a few hours away. ‘Tis unfortunate that you cannot make use of the Aetherytes… ‘Twould make this much faster, but… We can’t afford being picky.” “Umm… Pardon…”
M’Lyn perked up, hearing someone call out for them. A woman about her age, with tall white rabbit ears and short white hair contrasting with her brown-toned skin and eyes, looking their way as if to ask them something —or maybe lend them a hand? Given that they were looking for information on Y’shtola’s whereabouts more than anything else. So, the more options they had, the better.
Besides, the Miqo’te knew that any Adventurer’s account was valuable —being an Adventurer herself, and all that.
“Do you need something?” M’Lyn asked, tilting her head a little. “I couldn’t help but overhear… You’re looking for Y’shtola?” the woman asked, calmly. “…Do you know her?” “Oh, yes! We’re quite good acquaintances for that matter! Well… With all of the Scions, but that’s beside the point…” “…You’re… Friends with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn?” “I am! ‘Tis the reason why I couldn’t help but think that, maybe, I ought to lend you a hand —if you’re looking for Y’shtola, that is. It just so happens that I was on my way to meet up with her.” “That so? Then… You’re not opposed to us joining you?” “At all” the woman nodded, “Ah, right —where are my manners… I’m Reena Miret-moor. ‘Tis a pleasure to meet you.”

”This isn’t good…” M’Lyn hardly seemed defeated, though it was true that their search had yielded fruitless results. Tch—figures. How many times had his leads gone cold, by now? ”The other option’s the Waking Sands…surely someone there can tell us about Y’shtola’s whereabouts.” Ignoring the irritation of the situation, Kujo managed a gruff nod with clenched teeth—it was a saving grace that the Miqo’te at least had another place to begin. Not that it helped the fact they’d be starting from scratch all over again… ”Umm…Pardon…” Kujo’s emerald gaze narrowed in mild scrutiny as they fell on the stranger, noticing the rabbit ears with some incredibility. First a cat, now a rabbit? He’d noticed other Miqo’te’s on this world so far, though it was the first time the man had seen someone with animal ears unlike his friends. ”Do you need something?”
The mention of ‘overhearing’ only brought a faint scowl to Kujo’s face as he stood with his hands in his pockets, analyzing the stranger before them. Doesn’t look like a pickpocket… Perhaps it was a bad habit, but growing up in a rather large city, the stoic man had his own precautions when strangers approached on the street. Thankfully, the rabbit-woman didn’t provoke any red flags immediately. ”You’re looking for Y’shtola?” The fact that the stranger seemed to be acquaintances with the mysterious ‘Master’ they were seeking was almost too convenient, for one as guarded as him. ”It just so happens that I was on my way to meet up with her.” Raising a brow, Kujo’s face refused to betray the suspicion and distrust he felt towards this convenient stranger—though they were quick to abandon the title. ”Where are my manners…I’m Reena Miret-moor. ’Tis a pleasure…”
Her greeting seemed oddly formal for someone who’d spaced an introduction to begin with. Eyeing M’Lyn, it seemed that the name ‘Reena’ meant nothing to his companion. With a shrug and mild sigh, Kujo simply shook his head before finally deciding to introduce himself. ”Kujo.” Whatever. It wasn’t like they had any other leads. Even if the woman was more than they appeared, it was hardly like he or M’Lyn couldn’t handle it. I’ll keep an eye on her. Uncertain of the true nature of this new ‘ally’, Kujo reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a fresh pack of cigarettes—the name brand an unintelligible language for those of this world. ”So—how do you know this ‘Scion’?” Following M’Lyn’s lead, he’d tag along with this ‘Reena’, relying on the enhanced perception his Akogare gifted him to keep an eye on her, just in case.

The woman couldn’t help but find Kujo’s suspicions amusing, giggling a little while covering her mouth. M’Lyn had a feeling as for why he was skeptical of Reena’s approach, but she would’ve been able to tell by a glance whether she was worth of trust, or not. There was no room for debate —she wasn’t a rogue, or a pickpocket.
Not that Kujo could’ve known, but crimes in Limsa were rather regulated, with pirates and rogues cooperating rather than fighting and plunging —all thanks to the Grand Admiral. “You’re skeptical for a Hyur, aren’t you?” Reena joked with a giggle, before calming down and explaining, “Well… I’m not sure if I can explain…” “You’re been helping her with Primals, haven’t you?” M’Lyn inquired, catching the woman’s attention, “I take it Titan and Leviathan, particularly?” “Ah, so you know about that… Yes, I have —although it’s not just those 2, but… You get the point.”
M’Lyn crossed her arms in thought, humming a little as she debated her options. It wasn’t just anyone that could fight the Primals —although anyone could claim being capable of such a feat. Reena didn’t seem like she was claiming it on a whim, though, most likely because of her pride as a Viera. And a good look at her would tell anyone she was being honest.
Reena, on the other hand, blinked a few times while she tilted her head, unsure on what was happening. She hoped she didn’t make a bad first impression, more than willing to help them out, given that it was simply the case of people from different routes converging to a goal. So wasn’t it easier to go together along the way, to make things quicker?
Truthfully, she didn’t understand why Kujo in particular was so skeptical of her. Was it just because she was a Viera?
“Umm… Are you untrusting because I’m a Viera?” Reena asked, an uneasy smile written in her expression, “I know we’re uncommon and all, but… Is it really something to frown upon?” “That’s not the case” M’Lyn shook her head, “Rather… I guess I found it strange that you’re acquainted with the Scions to begin with…” “Oh? You happen to know all of them, as well?” “I do. Just like you, I’ve helped them deal with Primals.” “Hmm… May I have your name, then?” “Ah —right. …Call me M’Lyn” the Miqo’te nodded, “Are you asking in case you’ve heard of it?” “Well, that, and also that I didn’t catch your name” Reena giggled, “Hmm… I might’ve heard that name before… In any case.”
Clasping her hands together, pleasantly so, Reena looked between Kujo and M’Lyn, apparently something in mind to suggest them. While willing to help them group up with Y’shtola, the Viera had her own things to deal with —things that would legitimately only take seconds.
“While I am willing to lead you to where Y’shtola is at currently, I was looking for someone before leaving” she mentioned, a little apologetic, “I can see that you’re in a bit of a hurry, but… I can’t leave Limsa without my partner. I’m certain they’re at the Adventurer’s Guild, however —so heading there shouldn’t take a minute, particularly by Aetheryte.” “A shame that Kujo hasn’t atuned to the Aetherytes in Limsa, however…” M’Lyn shook her head, hiding a faint smirk, “’Twould make this much easier…” “Ah, well, then… If you wouldn’t mind, you can wait for me at the Docks. Unless you’d like to join? You know —in case you’re still wary of my intentions.”
Once more, the Viera smiled with unease, knowing that her presence alone had settled a permanent tension. Her gaze wandered particularly towards Kujo, knowing he was the more skeptical of the two, unlike M’Lyn, who knew for a fact that Reena wasn’t trying to trick or lie to them. Whether Kujo believed that or not, well…
He could always follow her to look for this “party member”.

”You’re skeptical for a Hyur, aren’t you?” Reena’s giggling earned a silent eyeroll from the stoic man—raising a brow at the mention of ‘Hyur’. The hell’s a ‘Hyur’? M’Lyn’s lead only worked on confusing Kujo further, hearing about ‘Primals’, ‘Titans’ and ‘Leviathans’. Tch—can’t I catch a break? Quelling his agitation with a drag of his cigarette, rather than openly asking what would most likely be foolish questions. In a sense, he was growing rather resigned to bizarre and odd events beyond his comprehension by now. Whether that was a good or bad thing, though, was still uncertain. "Umm…Are you untrusting because I’m a Viera?” Reena’s question caught Kujo off-guard, blinking and raising a brow in mild surprise as he exhaled his vice. ”That’s not the case…” M’Lyn was quick to clear up the misunderstanding, though the odd names he’d never heard of continued to keep the man in lavender quizzical. Watching the exchange in front of him, Kujo couldn’t help but flash a faint smirk at M’Lyn, hearing how others might know of her.
Figures. With the Miqo’te’s expertise, it wasn’t shocking to hear that they’d be a big deal in their home world, at least to some degree. Kujo hadn’t been the type to merely chalk up the woman’s prowess to her unique lineage, but had always sensed their own individual strength. ”While I am willing to lead you to where Y’shtola is at…I was looking for someone before leaving.” Hearing that Reena had a traveling partner they had to meet up with first, Kujo nearly barked out a laugh at hearing the words ‘Adventurer’s Guild’. Tch—she’s serious? The two continued talking without skipping a beat, meaning that the title and place were indeed real. Sighing a bit, Kujo glared up towards the sky as he finished his smoke, wondering what kind of weird fantasy realm he’d been thrown into this time. ”A shame that Kujo hasn’t attuned to the Aetherytes in Limsa, however…” His incredulousness around the earlier comment had nearly caused him to miss the snide smirk on M’Lyn’s face, earning her a mild glare.
Aetheryte? There were a lot of names and titles being thrown around in the conversation that he’d never heard of before. It was useless trying to make sense of it, apparently. ”If you wouldn’t mind, you can wait for me at the Docks. Unless you’d like to join?” Hearing how the invitation was mostly extended out of unease, Kujo sighed a bit and shook his head. ”Whatever. If M’Lyn vouches for you, it’s done with.” It was clear the man had no further protests to Reena guiding them. ”…” For a moment, the man paused, seemingly reflecting on something. ”I am curious about this ‘Guild’, though.” Glancing over at M’Lyn, his emerald gaze hinted at the cogs turning behind the surface. If there are other powerful warriors gathered there… There was a chance he might run into someone with powers similar to his own, wasn’t there? Not that they could afford any extra time—but if the rabbit woman was already heading there...
He was certain all he’d need was to be in the same vicinity. His Akogare was an extension of himself, but it had a specific aura about it. If there is someone like me there, I’ll know. Having made up his mind, Kujo gave a gruff nod, glancing back to Reena with their usual serious expression that betrayed little of the emotions beneath. ”So? Which way is it?”

“This way, then!”
With Reena guiding the way towards the Adventurer’s Guild in Limsa, the Viera gave little choice to M’Lyn and Kujo when it came to leaving elsewhere —although it was in their best interest to follow, since Reena had admitted to knowing Y’shtola, and her whereabouts, when M’Lyn had no clue as for where she could’ve gone off to.
The walk would be rather short, with Reena guiding them thoroughly throughout the city-state, though it wasn’t like M’Lyn had forgotten the path. She was besides the Viera as she led the way, looking to spot any changes in the city that was Limsa Lominsa —perhaps a change of color, or maybe a new infrastructure. Maybe the Guilds were located in different places, as well as the Market Street and inns?
A lot could’ve happened, in the time that she’d been gone.
Immediately upon entering the Adventurer’s Guild, the clank of wooden cups alongside loud cheers and other urban noises would be echoing, with plenty of Adventurers gathered. The Viera’s ears twitched slightly, looking around to spot her partner, a frown immediately forming in her face upon finding them amongst the crowd.
“Haa…” Reena sighed, glancing over towards M’Lyn and Kujo, “Do you mind waiting for a little? I’ve got to knock some sense into this blockhead of a Dragoon…” “…” M’Lyn blinked, smirking with amusement as she looked at the table with loud patrons, “I take it you’re talking about the Elezen over there?” “It’ll just take a moment…” “Sorry —but I’m not the type to stand still.” “Well… If so, you might be in for a treat…” the Viera replied with unease.
With that said, Reena approached the rowdy table with the group cheering loudly over apparent victory. The group was composed of four people, all males cheering along wooden cups of beer. One of them was an Elezen with a lance behind him, wearing black-colored clothing underneath shoulder pads and collar of bronze, a helmet hanging behind his back just shy from a magnificent spear. He seemed to be the least drunk out of the group, although a faint blush was visible in his face as he laughed at a comrade’s words.
The others were a Roegadyn Warrior, his tall and muscular build the color of a blue sky, wearing what seemed to be a sailor’s outfit missing the cap —the loudest of the group as well as easily the most drunk. Following was a Miqo’te Gladiator, his skin the color of toasted almond with dark-golden messy hair, wearing a simple linen shirt and leather pants, with bushy tail and ears compared to M’Lyn’s thinner expressions —perhaps a gender difference? Lastly, a small Lalafell Scholar, seemingly holding his drinks just as well as the Elezen. Wearing a long white robe and glasses, the Lalafell seemed eager to join along his comrades.
“Shall I sing you a song? Mayhap a tale?”
The Elezen and Lalafell both turned towards Reena as she berated them, a clear pout in her expression, whereas the Miqo’te and Roegadyn hardly paid her any mind, deep as they were in their drinks. With the overall loud and cheery ambiance the Adventurer’s Guild had going in the middle of the day, something as a Bard showing up to gain a little of gil singing tales for the patrons of the establishment was hardly something unthinkable —yet Reena’s intent was far more than just gaining a few coins here and there from drunk Adventurers.
“Reena? Has something happened?” the Elezen asked, amused. “Oi, Bard —sing us a tale, will ye?!” the Roegadyn roared with laughter, “We’ve needs of entertainment, lass!” “Shush, Ahtmhas! Can’t you see she’s not in the mood?!” the Lalafell berated, shushing the massive warrior with clear fear. “I thought you’d be aware that we have a meeting to attend to, Lamont? So why are you here, laughing with comrades, drinking away?” the Viera reprimanded. “Oh, come now! ‘Twas just celebration for a bountiful Duty, Reena!” the Elezen laughed, “Alas, I understand your concern —shall we depart now?” “Aw, you’re leaving already, Lamont?!” the Miqo’te shouted, sobbing, “Come on —why not join for another round?!” “Apologies, Z’khedu, but that shall wait for another time” the Elezen bid his farewell, “’Till then, dear friends! May your adventures be bountiful!” “May you walk in the light of the Crystal, Lamont —safe travels!”
With the Lalafell handling the mess that was the male Miqo’te drinking, and the Roegadyn roaring with laughter, the Elezen had stood up and left the table for a bit, blinking in surprise as he saw Kujo and M’Lyn behind Reena. An amused smirk rose at the corner of his lips as he turned towards the Viera that was his companion, searching for further amusement aside the drinks and laughter that his companions had brought alongside them.
“Pray tell who these two are?” “I offered to lend them a hand —they’re looking for Y’shtola” Reena explained, “And since we’re off to meet with her, I thought it best to invite them along.” “Ah, acquaintances of Miss Y’shtola, then?” the Elezen gave a faint bow, “I’m Lamont Vounusard, Dragoon allied with both Scions of the Seventh Dawn, as well as the Order of the Twin Adder. ‘Tis a pleasure.”

The city was intriguing, sophisticated and holding its own technological advancements while also maintaining a rather rustic sense in its infrastructure. Some aspects made no sense at all (such as the massive crystals, for instance), whereas others were archaic and primitive compared to where Kujo was originally from. Lantern posts waited to be lit, biding their time until the natural light of day would eventually give way, wooden bridges and cobblestone roads allowing weeds and other overgrowth to poke out undisturbed in sections. Compared to the concrete jungle of SanFransokyo, it was like going back in time, almost. Clank! Clatter! Splash! As Reena led them to a spacious and grandiose wooden building, sounds of clinking cups and swishing alcohol could be heard between shouts of merriment and incoherent voices. Tch—did she take us to the Guild, or a bar?
Stepping inside, following after the two locals, Kujo’s gaze was quick to scrutinize and take in the layout around him. Countless locals of all different shapes and sizes were littered around tables, many cups strewn about and loud voices creating a symphony that swallowed them up as they entered. Counters with workers behind them lined the back wall, which appeared more orderly and refined, though all around were reveling travelers. ”Do you mind waiting for a little? I’ve got to knock some sense into this blockhead of a Dragoon…” It seemed Reena had found her comrade, though she hardly seemed pleased about it. While M’Lyn followed the Viera to the table of some of the loudest patrons yet, Kujo remained behind, leaning against the wall as he took in the inhabitants of the Adventurer’s Guild. Though it may have looked like he was simply watching and observing, as though a stoic and menacing wallflower, in actuality the man was seeking something.
It was subtle, but the usual emerald gaze beneath his lids had shifted—his eyes becoming that of a galaxy as they took in the building and everything in it within a moment. … What he was looking for, or rather trying to sense, was power. Any power that would resonate similar to that of his Akogare. Once Reena succeeded in pulling her comrade away from their drinking buddies, Kujo’s gaze would return to normal as he pushed himself from the wall and walked back over to meet up with her and M’Lyn. ”Pray tell, who these two are?” The man was surprisingly taller than Kujo himself, though much less muscular with narrow features and pointed ears. They weren’t the only ones—the off-worlder had noticed many locals of varying sizes, some towering over even him, while others hardly managed to reach his knees. ”I’m Lamont Vounusard,” The countless titles that followed meant little to Kujo, who gave a gruff nod at the guy with his usual blank and stoic expression. ”Kujo.” Unlike Lamont, he had no flashy or ornate titles to adorn with his name. Hell, he didn’t even like including his last name, considering who he inherited that from.
”Tch—aren’t we going to be traveling?” Glancing over at Reena, Kujo gestured towards Lamont—specifically the red hue cast over the Elezen’s face. Even from where he stood, the man could smell the alcohol on the strangers breath. Though his senses were enhanced due to his own powers, so perhaps it wasn’t a wholly fair judgement. ”We don’t have time to waste on sobering someone up.” With a sigh, the man in lavender shoved his hands into his pockets, an irritated expression on his face. Can’t I catch a break? Truth be told, there was another cause for Kujo’s dislike of others drinking—both having to do with the past, as well as his current self. As for the present, it was impossible for Kujo to get drunk. At all. Not even a small buzz. Due to his Akogare, the man was unable to poison his body, which was always kept in optimal form due to the bizarre nature of his ‘guardian’. Not that he enjoyed the sensation, either. Being the rather serious type, the man was hardly into anything that dulled his senses of perception and left him vulnerable. What he hated more than the sensation was how others got when they drank.
Some were rowdy. Others too chummy. All of them annoying.

“M’Lyn. ‘Tis our pleasure.”
Deciding to be a little more polite with her introduction, M’Lyn had noticed Kujo’s already growing annoyance with the world that she called home —bringing her to a state of constant amusement. There was something about it, seeing the man groan with clear distaste, only wanting to see how far it’d go. Still, they had a job to do —someone to find.
Those details could wait once they had time for leisure.
Reena noticed Kujo looking at her, pointing at the Elezen standing besides her, blinking a little with dumbstruck thought. ”We don’t have time to waste on sobering someone up.” Ah, was that it? While the Viera looked a little confused, Lamont couldn’t help but laugh content —the blush still vivid in his cheeks. M’Lyn sighed, a faint smirk rising as she realized just how unaware Kujo truly was.
Really —he only needed to ask. There was no pride to be lost in searching enlightenment, no?
“Is that what worries you, friend?” Lamont asked, calming down a little, “I wouldn’t call myself an Adventurer —less a proud Elezen— if I couldn’t hold my liquor. Rest assured, I won’t hinder you in our travels together.” “Umm… Don’t you know Elezens have quite a high tolerance?” Reena asked, confused, “I thought that was common knowledge… Even I knew about that…” “Alas, ‘tis nothing to worry about” the Elezen in question shook his head calmly, “So, then —where are we off to?” “Mor Dhona, of course —where Y’shtola awaits!” “…Mor Dhona, you say?”
Both Reena and Lamont turned towards M’Lyn, who looked back at the pair with a glare hiding curiosity —or perhaps hesitation. As for the Miqo’te, she had her arms crossed, a clear skepticism written in her expression at the mention of their destination —her recollection of the place most likely not a pleasant one.
A thought neither of the other two Adventurers could fathom. Why was she so wary? If she was an Adventurer, she’d know the reason why they were heading to Mor Dhona.
“Yes. Is there something wrong?” Lamont asked. “It’s just… Why would Maester Y’shtola be there?” M’Lyn asked back, “Isn’t that area under high Garlean supervision? ‘Twould make no sense for her to be on the enemy’s location.” “Is that what worries you? Truly, fret not” Reena replied, “It’s been quite some time since the Garleans were pushed back from the Centri there —rest assured, they’re hardly considering stepping there once more.” “I see…” “Besides, Mor Dhona has always been neutral territory” Lamont continued, “Therefore, there’s hardly risks of danger there, for no one takes us Scions into consideration. We’re simply another group of citizens—” “Alright, I’ve got it already” M’Lyn hissed back, frowning, “So? I take it you were going to suggest travelling by Aetheryte?” “Yes.” “…You can probably guess, but Kujo and I aren’t atuned to the Aetheryte in Mor Dhona, for we have never been there before.” “Hmm…”
Reena frowned, bringing one hand to her chin as she pondered what to do, after listening to M’Lyn explaining her reasonings. The Viera pouted, trying to come up with an adequate solution to arrive to their destination as fast as possible. After all, Y’shtola had been waiting for quite some time —keeping her waiting while she had something so important to share would be a clear sight of disrespect. Lamont, on the other hand, didn’t seem worried, having thought immediately for a solution to the problem.
“Well, if Aetheryte is unavailable, then Airship would be the next step, no?” the Elezen suggested. “Airship?” M’Lyn asked, her curiosity piqued. “Ah! That’s right!” Reena cheered, “Biggs and Wedge! Cid told us we could use the Enterprise whenever we pleased!” “The only issue at hand would be where it is at —and that would be Thanalan. Thankfully, travel there should be quick through the Docks” Lamont proceeded, “If we leave now, we ought to arrive to Vesper Bay with plenty of time to spare.” “Then allow us to do that” M’Lyn nodded in agreement. “If so, I’ll fetch us a Ferry!” Reena said with a smile, “Make sure to be prepared! I’ll be seeing you there!”
Reena waved with a smile, leaving with a quick yet consistent pace, leaving the other three behind. M’Lyn did have a motive to remain, having not raised an objection to the Viera’s suggestion. She was weaponless —and while the weapons she had at the Almira were useful, she didn’t know whether they’d appear while the ship was so far away, and not in the same world.
Therefore, she had a different solution to the problem. Not only that, but that would mean she could select the job to suit the current party adequately.
Lamont seemed to notice this, glancing over the Miqo’te as she headed towards a small silver bell by a counter. An amused smile rose from his mouth, turning faintly towards her in order to properly inquire her.
“Do you need anything?” he asked. “You can probably tell, but I have not a single weapon in hand” M’Lyn replied, “I ought to see if one of my Retainers has weapons I can deem worthy to travel with.” “Alright, then —take your time.” “Shouldn’t take long.” M’Lyn hit the bell softly, standing near it as she waited, while Lamont remained near Kujo. Soon after a few seconds, a somewhat small woman —at least, for Kujo’s standars, since she was about M’Lyn’s height, only a tad smaller— dressed with a formal suit stepped forward. She had white hors to her sides, and even scales going on the side of her cheeks and a little on her neck. A thin, reptile-like tail hung calmly behind her. Giving M’Lyn a bow, she awaited for commands.
It would be a while before M’Lyn was finished with her task —in the meantime, Kujo could legitimately do as he pleased.

”Is that what worries you, friend?” Lamont’s casual demeanor only caused Kujo’s grimace to sour more. He hated people that acted too chummy when they hardly knew him. ”Umm…Don’t you know Elezens have quite a high tolerance?” Reena’s question caused the stoic man’s brow to raise—though it was hardly like he could mention to the Vierra that he hardly knew what an ‘Elezen’ was to begin with. ”Alas, ’tis nothing to worry about.” Rolling his eyes in response, Kujo clicked his tongue and crossed his arms. ”Mor Dhona, you say?” M’Lyn’s sudden glare caught him by surprise, though the politics behind her suspicion were lost on him. Tch—every world’s a hassle. It didn’t matter where one went: everywhere had its own hoops for locals to leap through and taxes that tolled and wore on them. What he did gather from the conversation unfolding was that clearly time had passed by during the Miqo’te’s absence. ”Alright, I’ve got it already.” Though M’Lyn showed visible irritation, she did well in hiding the main source of her attitude.
Having traveled with the woman for some time, Kujo knew she was surely surprised, or at least caught off guard, by the time that had transpired. Each world has its own equation... It was the whole reason Lid was keeping watch for them back in Milennia, after all. However long M'Lyn had been away, it was clear it had been longer than she'd expected. ”Well, if Aetheryte is unavailable, then Airship would be the next step, no?” Lamont’s comment pulled Kujo from his thoughts and back into the conversation. Hearing how Reena and the Elezen seemed to have acquaintances with transportation, it seemed their destination was going to be the docks. An airship? Was that something similar to their Almira, or closer to a plane or helicopter? With how many worlds he’d been to, the amount of technologies he’d begun to be familiarized with was hardly allowing him much surprise any more. While the Vierra bounded off, surely in the direction of said docks, Kujo noticed M’Lyn lingering behind—a fact Lamont picked up on, as well.
Hearing how M’Lyn was in need of a weapon, the tall man in lavender simply sighed and shook his head. Seriously? His face hinted at the mild flash of annoyance he felt, though it was hardly worth the attachment. Considering how impromptu the expedition had been, the stoic man decided not to judge his comrade too harshly on their lack of forethought and preparation—something they were usually always in top performance around. ”Don’t be too picky.” With a departing taunt thrown towards M’Lyn, Kujo rose a dismissive hand before turning away from the other two. Beginning to walk off in the direction Reena had headed, the man decided to see the ‘airships’ they’d be utilizing for their travel. That, and it wasn’t like he’d picked up on anything in the plaza. If there were any others with powers similar to his on this world, he'd have to continue forward. It was a secondary priority to the main reason they were here, but one he'd focus on while he had the time. What a pain. With a sigh, the man would use the powers of his Akogare to enhance his perception, navigating the unfamiliar town with surprising ease as he’d follow the initial direction he saw the Vierra head, toward the docks.

M’Lyn rolled her eyes after picking up Kujo’s jab, yet she focused on her talk with the Retainer that had come to greet her. Instead, Lamont glanced his way as the man waved dismissively, only smirking as a reply. The Dragoon sighed, deciding to stay with M’Lyn for the time being, given that the Miqo’te was a person of intrigue to the somewhat well-educated Elezen —he wanted to learn more about her.
Kujo could go later, he supposed. Lamont could already guess it, but perhaps getting to know the man so early would end with bitter discussions rather than pleasant ones.
“If you’ll chase after Reena, you’ll want to go a floor down” he shouted at Kujo, “The ramp’s not too far from here. As soon as you see the Aetheryte, head straight until the end —the Docks shan’t be too far.”
If Kujo did as told, or if he managed to catch the glimpse of the Viera from very far away, he’d find himself at Limsa’s Lower Decks. Past the Aetheryte Plaza, and past a crowded market street, sheltered under white stone that made part of the buildings, he would be able to spot a lonely Reena talking with one of the people in charge of the Docks.
Of course, this being a city built over the sea, the Docks spread out over the water, a few Ferries here and there waiting for customers, yet nothing even closely resembling an Airship. Simply boats meant to travel across sea. Having already finished payment for 4 Adventurers, the Viera turned around, spotting him amongst the crowd —not that it was hard, really.
“Oh? Is something the matter?” Reena asked, “I’ve already finished arranging for our departure. Are Lamont and M’Lyn joining soon?”

Roaming through the crowd as he made his way towards the docks, Kujo’s underlying concentration remained on sensing any auras similar to his Akogare. It was a fruitless effort, as nothing had piqued his interest his entire way here, but one he was vigilant with nonetheless. Another bizarre place… The stoic man wore a sour expression, walking with both hands in his pockets as he continued to take in the odd sights of M’Lyn’s home world. Ever since joining the Brigade, the man’s expectations for physics and laws of nature had been obliterated, burned to ash. Reaching Limsa’s Lower Decks, finally escaping the crowded market streets, Kujo’s emerald gaze would find the Viera easily enough. Despite the odd variety of locals, the amount of folks with large bunny ears poking out of their hair were surprisingly slim.
Tch—wonder how long this’ll take… All around them were boats of varying sizes rocking against the lapping waves of the sea, tied and secured to the dock while some prepared for departure or arrivals. The Viera was talking to someone who Kujo assumed was a captain of one of many said boats that would bring them to where his other curiosity lay—the airships. ”Oh? Is something the matter?” Reena seemed to spot him as well, not that that was very difficult to do, either. For someone who didn’t seem to enjoy people much, Kujo’s attire and demeanor were certainly easy to find and pick out in a crowd. ”Are Lamont and M’Lyn joining soon?” With a gruff sigh, Kujo shrugged and glanced at the sea with a mild glare. ”She’s getting equipped. Who knows how long that’ll take.” Usually the Miqo’te always fought with an arsenal of varying weapons that she excelled in. Is she going to try to make me lug around an armory? The thought only caused his face to sour more before he shook it off. ”So, how far away is this ‘airship’?”
He couldn’t even remember the last time he’d been on a boat. He’d been a kid, hardly a teenager, that much he could recall. It had been a short trip his mom had won for doing well at work, or something. Kujo wasn’t against the idea of traveling by sea, though he knew that depending on the distance, it could take quite some time compared to other methods of travel he’d gotten used to.

Nodding after getting her confirmation, Reena smiled, albeit faintly. It made sense that M’Lyn was getting equipped, a thing that the Viera had noticed upon meeting —she wasn’t carrying anything that even resembled a weapon. And while some Pugilists and Monks would fight with only their body as weapon, M’Lyn didn’t exactly look like the type to do so.
She was a bit too “fragile-looking” for something like that —but appearances could often lie.
“If she’s just picking weapons with a Retainer, doubtless it won’t take long” the Viera reassured, “After all, Retainers are a great aid for us Adventurers when it comes to keeping things for us! You know —kind of like… Someone tasked with keeping our storage in place! They know all sorts of things to help us, wasting nary a second more than necessary.”
It took a little, before conversation continued onwards. Kujo’s questions somehow found a way to amuse her yet again —since Reena had asked those questions once before upon arrival to Eorzea. The Viera hummed for a little bit, trying to remember how long of a voyage it was, when crossing from Limsa’s Lower Decks to Vesper Bay in Thanalan.
“It’d say… The travel through sea shouldn’t take too long —at best half an hour” Reena replied, “Departing around this time should allow us to reach Vesper Bay with plenty of time to spare, as Lamont mentioned. From Vesper Bay, we make haste to Ul’dah. If we’re lucky, we ought to depart to Mor Dhona and arrive there by nightfall —but it really depends on the monsters lurking on the path.”
Having said her part, the Viera’s face turned to a frown at the end, though it was short-lived, quickly returning to a calmer disposition as she looked back at Kujo. She perked up a bit, noticing that Kujo also didn’t have any weapons at his disposal —but unlike M’Lyn, he certainly looked capable of fighting with bare hands. Her ears twitched a little as she leaned a bit closer, intrigued by the person who would be a temporary partner.
Wasn’t it better to knowing each other a little more? Since they were waiting on M’Lyn and Lamont to arrive, the easiest way to kill time was through conversation, no?
“Say… What’s your job, exactly?” she asked, “You are an Adventurer, are you not? So what discipline did you learn?” it took a while, before Reena flinched a little, sheepishly backing away, “Right… Lamont told me this… If I’m to ask someone a question, I ought to explain my part first… That’s common in Eorzea, is it not?” the Viera chuckled a little, calmly placing one hand over her chest as she began, “I’m a Bard. While I do sing tales and the like for drunkards at taverns back and forth, ‘tis not the only thing I’m capable of. I began as an Archer, and I’d like to say I’m quite adept with the bow. After taking on some lessons from another Bard, though… I can also aid others with songs —hopefully I get to show you if we come across a fight!”
“Finished already?”
Lamont asked, his arms crossed and a cocky smirk as he asked M’Lyn, who was walking back towards him. On her back hung a polearm, to her left a staff and to her right a broadsword —all in perfect condition and ready to be used. Other than that, nothing.
“It’s not like this will take long, no?” M’Lyn retorted back, “We’re heading to Mor Dhona, and we’re 4 —meaning that battles shan’t take too much of our time.” “’Tis true, yes. Shall we join the other two by the Docks, then?”
Receiving a nod as a reply, Lamont led the way to the Docks, with M’Lyn following calmly suit. It didn’t take long before they arrived, spotting Kujo and Reena almost immediately amongst the barely existing crowd. The Viera noticed them immediately, waving with a friendly smile to the arriving duo, before turning towards the captain she’d paid to, leading the way to the ship slowly rocking back and forth over the calm waves. She waited for everyone to be on board, herself included, before repeating their destination.
“To Thanalan, if you would!”

”If she’s just picking weapons with a Retainer, doubtless it won’t take long!” The Viera’s explanation managed to ease the worst of Kujo’s doubts around M’Lyn being too choosey or excessive with her choices at least. ”I’d say the travel through sea shouldn’t take too long—at best, half an hour.” That was news that caused the stoic man to sigh in relief. Good. We won’t waste too much time. Despite having communication with Lid back in Milennia, Kujo was unable to fully shake the paranoia of their time running out. Overall they were looking at about a days worth of travel, though Reena’s mention of ‘monsters’ caused his brows to raise slightly. Tch—right. He recalled M’Lyn mentioning her home world being full of monsters and beasts that posed issues for the inexperienced or fool-hearty. ”…?” Reena’s ears had twitched as she leaned in, inspecting him with a transparent intrigue. Crossing his arms and raising a brow at her, the man’s face flashed with impatience before she finally hummed out a question. ”Say…what’s your job, exactly?”
Blinking for a moment, this was a rare instance of Kujo being simply dumbfounded. He hadn’t expected such a normal sounding question. ”You are an Adventurer, are you not? So what discipline did you learn?” There it was. It wasn’t a normal question, after all. Damn it. He’d gotten his hopes up ever so slightly, despite himself, that perhaps this world wasn’t as bizarre as it appeared. ”I’m a Bard.” While Reena explained her ‘job’ to Kujo, he listened with a mild glare and shoved his hands in his pockets. Aid others with songs? The hell kind of skill was that? Were they really just going to play music if monsters showed up? He couldn’t decide if it was simply stupid or insane—but perhaps both. ”I got a feeling that ‘bow’ of yours will be more helpful.” With clear skepticism in his voice, Kujo shrugged before deciding to come up with an adequate lie. After all, being vague about his origins and abilities wasn’t uncommon to him, with all of the worlds they’d been to already by now.
”I trained in...'martial arts'.” His answer was gruff and vague, though it said something that he deigned to answer it at all, really. Of course, he’d hardly begin explaining something like his Akogare to a stranger, even if they were a temporary traveling partner. Shortly after, Kujo would spot a familiar face as he sensed M’Lyn enter the docks. Noting the three weapons strapped to the Miqo’te’s form, Kujo couldn’t help but flash a faint smirk. At least it’s not a whole armory. With the group reconvened, they were ready to board the ship that awaited them. ”To Thanalan, if you would!” With everyone aboard, all that was left was to make the venture there. As the boat set off, Kujo watched the sky above, wondering what Jack might think of these ‘airships’ they’d be seeing. Tch—guess I’ll have to tell him about it. What a pain… He’d have to make sure they found this Master and got some information on Liz, if he was going to make sure that gloomy nerd would get to make it long enough to listen.

Reena looked at Kujo with awe, after hearing his answer, yet held back her further inquiry while they went on board. The captain —a Hyur, similar in height to Kujo with slightly tan skin and dark hair and short beard— tipped their hat in welcome, before the Ferry took off from Limsa Lominsa’s Docks, heading towards Vesper Bay.
M’Lyn had taken a seat, arms crossed and tail neatly resting besides her, her ears low against her hair while the waves and breeze crossed their way, with the Ferry cutting through them with ease. Lamont had decided to stand up, and so did Reena. Perhaps they weren’t the kind to get sea-sick?
“So, a Pugilist?! Or… Was it a Monk?”
Immediately after taking off, already fairly deep into the sea, Reena has begun her own barrage of questions, the eagerness oozing from her. Her Elezen partner shook his head in mild disappointment, yet the smirk of amusement didn’t take long in showing itself. M’Lyn glanced their way after listening to Reena’s inquiry, only guessing what it was that the Viera had asked before, sighing at the prospect.
Keeping lies was going to be a hassle, for sure —at least, in Kujo’s case. After all, the man hardly knew anything of the world they were in, and the Miqo’te hadn’t taken her time to explain much, with how fast they had found a lead.
Not that it was a bad thing.
“Did you train at the Pugilist’s Guild in Ul’dah? Wait, but… You said you haven’t attuned to the Aetheryte there…” the Viera immediately backpedaled, “Then… Did you learn them where you come from? Where is that? Is it in Eorzea?” “Reena, shouldn’t you know how to relax with those questions by now?” Lamont asked, catching her attention, “I understand that there’s many places we’ve yet to visit, but perhaps those questions can wait?” “…Is this your dynamic?” M’Lyn asked, looking their way with an intrigued smirk, “You drink aloof, and she goes around, inquiring others, only for you to chastise each other later?” she scoffed, “Quite the scene, I’ll admit that.” “Alas, ‘twould be something one expects, no?” the Elezen laughed back, “After all, are Vieras not scarce in the land of Eorzea?” “That much, I’ve heard. Where that is exactly, however, escapes me.” “Ah —should I explain that part, then?”
Reena turned back towards the two, ignoring Kujo for a moment with eager eyes looking back at Lamont and M’Lyn, hands clapped together in a pleasant manner. Whether she’d completely forgotten about the questions she made to Kujo, or wanted to relax as per Lamont’s request by talking first, was beyond answering.
For the time being, though, it seemed the man was safe from her questioning.
“I’m a Rava, from Golmore Jungle” Reena began, “It is quite far from here —southern Othard, to be precise. I only arrived to Eorzea —particularly, in Gridania— a few years back.” “…Aren’t the Rava those who live by a law or something?” M’Lyn inquired. “The Green Word, yes —it’s the code that we live by” the Viera nodded, “It forbids us leaving the Wood and interacting with the world outside unless we absolutely must. That is also saying that leaving the Wood means being banished from it, never to return or listen to the Wood’s voice again.”
Finishing off with a shrug and an apologetic smile, it seemed like the whole ordeal hardly mattered to the speaker, instead dismissing it off rather nonchalantly. Lamont seemed to not mind, perhaps already knowing the story and culture, instead scoffing silently at his partner’s casualty of it all. M’Lyn also appeared unbothered —although she was capable of hiding what she truly felt rather easily from others.
In truth, it shocked her a little, with how similar it was to her own end of the story. Yet unlike Reena, it wasn’t something she could brush off easily. The Miqo’te turned her gaze back to the sea, deeming the conversation over, and instead focusing forward to try and spot Vesper Bay before the rest.
It was better to keep those sorts of troublesome histories to oneself.

”So, a Pugilist?! Or…was it a Monk?” Reena’s questions had yanked him from his silent contemplation, something that had only caused Kujo to grimace and give a gruff eye-roll at. ”Did you train at the Pugilist’s Guild in Ul’dah?” While the Viera immediately began to prattle off questions, Lamont stalked up from behind, intervening with a surprisingly tempered and lecturing tone for a lush. ”Is this your dynamic?” M’Lyn seemed to be enjoying the ‘show’, though Kujo felt a silent gratitude towards the Elezen, who’d saved him from having to try and either come up with answers or ignore Reena’s questions. So, she really is a rare sight? Hearing Lamont’s comment on Viera’s being ‘scarce’ in this land, the man in lavender found himself mildly intrigued by the woman’s origins. ”I’m a Rava, from the Gilmore Jungle.” Though many names during this conversation were eluding him, Kujo followed along quick enough.
”Aren’t the Rava those who live by a law or something?” M’Lyn seemed curious, too, despite being from this world. Clearly, Viera really were uncommon, then. Tch—sounds like a pain in the ass. Reena’s explanation of the ‘Green Word’ only caused Kujo to turn his head a bit and snort mildly in incredulousness. How stifling it would be, to live somewhere that forbid travel outside of it. In that case, being ‘exiled’ could be a blessing in disguise for some. Whether Reena felt that way or not, it was tough to say, as the Viera shrugged and dismissed the fact completely. ”…” Noticing Lamont and M’Lyn clam up as well, the stoic man sighed, realizing this was the end of the line in terms of information. The Miqo’te had turned away from the others, keeping watch on the horizon while the conversation died. She seemed thoughtful, though perhaps that was also her respecting the fact that the exile could be a touchy subject to the bard.
The ‘Woods’, huh? He wondered what the Viera had meant by its ‘voice’, though decided that it wasn’t worth asking about. The conversation of homes brought Kujo’s mind elsewhere, thinking of his mother and his own home world as he pulled out the pack of smokes tucked away inside his jacket. Stepping away from the others and cupping the flame with a calloused and powerful hand from the sea breeze, the stoic man inhaled and exhaled smoke, watching the waves pass them by as they’d shortly arrive to their destination. Glancing over at M'Lyn from across the deck, the man wondered about the Miqo'te's own home. Though they had returned to her home world, they didn't appear to be where she had once lived. If there were any family or friends that she'd missed or want to see, she hadn't brought it up. ... Ignoring the thoughts, his next drag was deeper as he turned back to watch the sea.

Silence followed the rest of the trip, with no one raising any questions or topics to discuss or talk about. Even Reena had decided to leave the questions she had for Kujo behind, knowing now that it was perhaps better to not dig deeper, as per Lamont’s suggestions to relax with them. Instead, she’d taken a seat, strumming along her lyre and humming a tune along the sea breeze and waves, allowing them to carry on her song.
Eventually, M’Lyn stood up, having spotted their destination —a dry land, with evident lack of vegetation, befitting a desert. The climate was also relatively drier than in Limsa. Nearing the Docks of Vesper Bay, they could see the small port town, with small houses made with limestone, flat of roof and light orange in color. Many Lalafells strolled by, although the occasional Hyur was present. All of them wore clothes befitting a desert —turbans and tunics, light to wear and mostly white or of light colors, finishing the attire with sandals for the most part.
There were a few palm trees in the center of the town, a fountain and a bar nearby it, yet this time, there was no Aetheryte to be seen. It had always been that way in Vesper Bay, however —the place never had an Aetheryte to begin with.
Not even when the Scions of the Seventh Dawn had settled their base of operations in The Waking Sands.
“Here we are —Vesper Bay” Reena informed, “From here, we head to Horizon, straight to Ul’dah through Western Thanalan.” “…Are you not passing through The Waking Sands beforehand?”
M’Lyn’s sudden inquiry brought a shocked look from both Lamont and Reena, apparently recognizing the name. While Reena tilted her head with clear confusion, Lamont seemed concerned —all the while M’Lyn glanced back with a frown, arms crossed as she wondered what it was she was missing. The Elezen shook his head, sighing, before properly explaining the situation.
“’Tis been quite some time since we moved from this place, as a matter of fact” he explained, “In fact, it’s the reason why we’re meeting with Y’shtola at Mor Dhona —our base of operations has been moved there.” “Then… You mean to say The Waking Sands are no more?” “Afraid so. I take it you never received the news?” “…” M’Lyn shook her head, “No, unfortunately…”
With that said, the Miqo’te looked away, past the townspeople and plaza and towards what appeared to be a tunnel of sorts, leading elsewhere. Claiming back her calm, she stepped forward, not before urging the rest to follow. If they wanted to reach Mor Dhona by nightfall, they had to be quick about it.
Yet even then, perhaps the monsters would have something to say on their way there.
Walking through the tunnel, the group would enter the Footfalls —a small marsh-like area, with creatures walking at their mercy. There was a properly build path across the small islets on the marsh, leading to yet another tunnel that reached Horizon. M’Lyn noticed a lack of soldiers, knowing that it was common for at least a group to be patrolling the area. Weren’t the Brass Blades supposed to be there, in order to allow travelers and merchants a safe voyage through the swamps?
“It’s worse than before, for sure…” Reena’s comment caught her off-guard, although it allowed some explanation, by the looks of it. “You mean the number of monsters lurking the area?” the Miqo’te asked back. “It would indeed be the case” Lamont replied, glancing her way, “The primals have been stirred a lot as of late —and with it, the monsters’ lurking the lands have become a lot more aggressive and active. ‘Twould be best if we treaded with care.”
The Dragoon led the group, followed by the Bard and finally M’Lyn, with Kujo hopefully following along. The walk of the paths would be secure enough, with most of the monsters not really paying them attention —gigantic toads with glaring big eyes, and what seemed to be spikes over their backs, or small fish-like creatures with bulbs at the end of antennae, swimming along the shallow marsh waters.
However, there was one kind of monster that had taken notice of the travelers making their way through the Footfalls —feathery, flying over the skies with prying eyes.
A group of birds of blue hue and sharp beaks shrieked upon their presence, flying their way to attack the troupe. Skoom! Immediately, one of the birds fell over the marsh waters with a loud splash! Reena glared, having drawn her bow within the blink of an eye and shooting with precision at the enemies approaching. Lamont held his spear firmly, and M’Lyn took on the staff by her side, ready to play support.
The battle would be afoot before they could even imagine!

The voyage across waters was calm enough, with only the sounds of parting and splashing waves and the passing wind to keep them company. Smoking and leaning against the edge of the boat, Kujo watched the horizon until his enhanced vision picked up the faint sight of land in the distance. As they got closer, he’d be able to make out the dry land that awaited them. Palm trees peppered the otherwise dull and sandy landscape, a small port town thriving with activity greeting them with a din chorus accompanying the splashing waves and cawing sea-birds. ”Here we are—Vesper Bay.” Reena seemed content, noting how they were closing in on their destination step by step. M’Lyn’s sudden confusion only caused Kujo’s brow to raise while Lamont explained the shift of environment since her absence. She really has been gone a while, then… It hadn’t been the first time she’d questioned the information presented, her own clearly being dated significantly now. Regardless of how long exactly the Miqo’te had been away from home, it was clear that the world had continued to move in her absence.
Rather quickly, at that.
Kujo noticed the woman turn away from the others after that, staring instead at the destination awaiting them. Within moments, she seemed to have steeled her shock and steadied her troubled heart. Typical. Sighing with a faint smirk of begrudging respect, the stoic man shook his head and followed the others as they docked and disembarked. Heading through a tunnel, Kujo was surprised to find a marshy area, one that immediately reminded him of the swamps in the Dwarf Woodlands—albeit, less cartoonishly sinister. ”It’s worse than before, for sure…” The bard’s comment about monsters littering the area only caused the muscular man to shrug, hardly concerned about such beastly threats. It was nothing he or M’Lyn couldn’t handle. Though, the other two are another story. Eyeing Lamont and Reena, Kujo wondered just how strong the two traveling with them were. Would he be forced to defend and protect others? Tch—what a pain. Only time would tell.
Not much time, however, as the group passing through the marshy landscape via the well-placed pathway would soon be noticed by a group of aggressive birds. Twaaang! One of the winged monsters fell immediately, crashing into the mucky earth as an arrow jutted out from its fallen and slack form. ”Definitely better than a song.” Grunting in approval with a flicker of a grin on his face, it seemed Kujo regarded Reena in a new light, having seen the speed at which the Viera had strung and loosed their arrow. Lamont hardly seemed taken by surprise, either, readying their long lance with a focused look on their face as M’Lyn readied one of her new staves. Flap! Flap! Loud shrieks and caws filled the air as the six buzzards swarmed around them, though Kujo merely looked on with an almost bored expression as he finally removed his balled fists from his pockets.
”Can’t I catch a break?” Within the blink of an eye, the man’s body began to radiate a shimmering faint violet aura as his muscles swelled and seemed ready to burst from their enhanced power. In place of his usual emerald gaze was the familiar (or in some cases, unfamiliar) vast galaxy swirling with stardust. Rushing into the air with a jump that left a minor crater in the earth below, Kujo’s enhanced speed and power would aid in his raising knee blow, aimed at hurling one of the pesky birds into the other while his other leg swept out in a wide arc—slicing like a blade through the air as it aimed for the nearest targets with his Girochin. The battle was on, and it was clear the man wanted to waste no time!

”Definitely better than a song.” Kujo’s comment brought a grin to the Viera, while she focused on keeping the enemies at a fair distance with her bow and arrow. Both locals (that is, Reena and Lamont —M’Lyn had already seen Kujo’s display of attacks) looked in awe and respect as the man charged in, his speed and strength unparallel. The Viera in particular was in clear admiration, wanting to do more than simply shoot arrows and defeat enemies.
She wanted to support the team in more ways than one. Kujo had mentioned that her arrows were better than a song —but he hadn’t seen the effect that they had in battle.
So why not give him a show to demonstrate her skills?
In the meantime, Lamont had readied his spear, rushing forward alongside Kujo before jumping incredibly high —higher than normal capabilities, for sure. Then again, it could be linked to his race, no? Regardless, the Dragoon leapt high into the air, before diving straight onto the group of buzzards, with a powerful Jump attack. While a few of the birds had managed to dodge the attack, others fell under the might of the Elezen’s spear —in a similar matter to the ones that Kujo had managed to slice through with his Girochin.
There were still a few Arbor Buzzards remaining, though.
“Onwards!”
A harmonic strumming would be heard behind Kujo and Lamont, before a burst of magical energy attacked one of the Buzzards and pushing them back, but not quite defeating them. Following the strumming of the Bard’s Army’s Paeon, the team would feel a surge of power increasing their strengths, hopefully making the fight easier.
“Thanks as per usual, Reena!” Lamont shouted back, readying his spear to a second assault. All the while, M’Lyn had her eyes focused up front, ready to lend her support. Chanting a spell, the Miqo’te threw a Stone spell at the Buzzard hit by Reena’s song, defeating it for sure. With the team setting they currently had, defeating the remaining enemies would surely be a piece of cake!

For someone who’d started the day off drinking, Lamont was a force to be reckoned with. Soaring through the air at heights normal individuals could never hope to obtain, Kujo watched the Elezen’s spear crush through the weakened Buzzards defenses in a powerful lunge. Tch—guess he’s awake enough… Begrudgingly admitting to himself that the lush could hold their own in combat, a sudden melody caught the stoic man by surprise as Reena’s voice rang out. "Onwards!” The harmonic strumming rang through the battlefield, Kujo’s body stiffening a bit as he felt the musical vibrations course through him as though a shock, followed by a surge of overflowing power. ...? Having landed back on the earth from his aerial attack, the man’s galaxy gaze narrowed as he glanced down and clenched a fist.
The aura around Kujo was much brighter than before—the energy seeping off as though steam due to the sheer amount pouring forth. What is this? He’d never experienced magic quite like it. ”Thanks as per usual, Reena!” Lamont readied a second assault while confirming Kujo’s suspicions. ”So—this is what your songs do?” He didn’t look over to the Viera, who would have noticed the faint smirk on the man’s face otherwise as he clenched his fists and prepared to see the extent of this new strength. Flap! Swoosh! The remaining Buzzards shrieked and cawed in defiance, flapping through the air and swarming around them still as Kujo leapt up into the air at a speed even faster than before. "Useless!” With a blinding light exploding forth, the man unleashed his Wakeru ability, a torrent of punches exploding against the feathered monsters with the aim of shredding them to pieces.
Sure enough, Kujo could feel the extra strength pouring both from his own body as well as his Akogare. He was familiar with music, as there were countless recorded and non-recorded artists back in SanFransokyo who’s voices and melodies roamed through the city in car stereos, stores, concert halls, etc. Never before had music made him feel anything, though. Not like this. Rather than a bunch of distracting and useless noise (though, the melody itself could still be deigned as much to the gruff man), it seemed that magic itself wove its way through the Viera’s instrument. Surprisingly enough, it seemed compatible with his own mysterious powers. Can’t I catch a break? Landing back on the earth once more, gauging the effect of his attack with the new power of Reena’s song, Kujo sighed and shook his head.
It was just more bizarre events after another.
