Mei's enthusiasm caused Yuto to let out a small laugh. It seemed she understood how he felt. Ge gave a nod and turned back to the dummies. "Uh, if history is anything to go by I'm sorry and we should back up a bit." Following his own advice, the man took a good step back before raising his hand and prepping his 'Dark Firaga' spell.
As the purple-ish black flame formed in his hand, the first thing that registered was the warmth of it. None of his other fire magic felt like this, even the first tier of this magic wasn't this warm. 'Maybe I didn't notice last time because I was mid-fight?' He shrugged and chalked up his current lack of pain to the gloves working. The real test would be him launching the spell.
He refocused on the targets and let the spell fly. Everything seemed to go off without any problems. His hand was fine, and the resulting blast didn't destroy anything. That was until a wave of nausea and fatigue hit him like a ton of bricks. Stumbling a bit as he turned to Mei, Yuto gave the girl a thumbs up and showed the palm of his hand as proof that he was fine.
"So, I'd say these work. What's say we grab 'em?" He sat down near where Mei was. "Soon as the the world stops spinning." He gave out a half-hearted laugh.

“Henoke!”
While Tori had dodged the worst of it, it seemed the reckless teen hadn’t. The sickly dark-green fog cleared out rather quickly, revealing the Malboro about to attack if left alone to the defenseless Henoke, but Tori wasn’t gonna let that happen.
Jumping back into the fight, she slashed swiftly, fending the many tentacles that were nearing the teen. The Malboro seemed to growl, the slimy noises growing louder as it retreated. The girl glanced over at Henoke, a faint hint of worry hidden behind clear scolding. While she wanted to help Henoke out immediately, any chance they didn’t use to attack Carrot would work against them. Her healing magic wouldn’t work to remove the ailments inflicted on Henoke, either.
All in all, it was perhaps better if he retreated for a bit.
“Stay low —I got this” she said, “If you can try and get back up to fight a little more, though, I won’t stop you. Just don’t close your distance again —it’ll be much worse a second time.”
With that said, Tori made use of the opening granted —dashing forward to taunt the creature that was their enemy. The Malboro recovered its steps, readying yet another Bad Breath, yet at the last second, Tori stopped her dash, instead conjuring a combo of Faith and Blizzaja, freezing it in place. Without leaving it a room to escape, the girl charged forward with her Elegant Flurry, each strike hitting stronger and faster.
Another hit would guarantee victory!
[Battle! Carrot]
Watching in awe, Mei noticed how Yuto’s hand wasn’t searing and burning from his Dark Firaga, unlike before. Maybe the gloves did work, in the end? If so, that was quite the relief. It meant that Yuto wouldn’t be hurt by his even his stronger magic.
Although she thought a bit too hastily.
The girl flinched a little after seeing Yuto stumble towards her, forcing a smile to sort of reassure her, hardly working in his favor. Following along in his half-hearted laugh, Mei walked towards him, helping him regain his footing, making use of her healing magics to help him lose the fatigue and nausea.
“I think so, too” she followed with a chuckle, “But you won’t be going anywhere like that. Take it easy!”
Soon after, her Curaga spell would take effect, hopefully soothing most, if not all of the fatigue Yuto felt. Stepping back a little to test her actions, the girl nodded faintly, before lending a hand towards him in hopes he would follow back to the shop. Once there, purchasing the items would be a piece of cake.
“Since that’s done and gone with, why don’t we grab something before heading to HQ?” she suggested, “Tori proposed meeting there before calling it a day. Let’s grab ice cream for her and Henoke, for when they’re done with their Mark. Y’know —like a little reward!”

”Urgh…” Truly, Henoke was a rather resilient teen—though the boy had never felt worse in his entire life. Whatever the bizarre and stinking cloud that the monster had belched up had worked a number on the orange-haired warrior’s energy. Fatigue blanketed his body, his muscles aching and sluggish as the world seemed to spin and his center of gravity continued to twirl and shift. ”Henoke!” Tori’s shout echoed faintly, sounding almost as though they were underwater, dim and foggy in the back of his mind. As the fog began to clear, it exposed the teen disoriented and wide-open, their sloppy guard hardly formidable against the countless tentacles preparing to strike. CLANG! Swish! Chop! Tori was quick to intervene, slashing and hacking away at the striking appendages as she landed in front of Henoke protectively. ”Stay low—I got this.” Though she was looking out for him, the girl’s words wounded the warrior’s pride as the foggy and garbled words reached him.
”Tch—I ain’t…done yet.” Gritting his teeth together, Henoke swayed slightly as he finally forced his body to stand straight, trying to grip the large sword with both hands once more as he fumbled and struggled to even keep his vision focused on the massive monster. While Tori rushed forward, preparing a feint before unleashing powerful magic against the target, the teen allowed his pride and irritation to fuel his will as he fought against the countless ailments plaguing him from the enemies attack. Stupid…monster!! It was making a fool out of him! This was his moment to shine, damn it! To prove that he’d become one of the best in the Guild! ”Don’t…look down…ON ME, ASSHOOOOLE!” Taking a few groggy and slow steps at first, Henoke shouted out as he finally mustered up the energy to run forward—the Marlboro already frozen solid and being pummeled at by Tori’s barrage of attacks.
The boy’s claymore roared out with a powerful energy as he fought off the urge to vomit and fall over, allowing his anger to surge his body forward in a clumsy yet straight charge. He could barely see—hell, to Henoke, it almost looked like there were three massive tentacle monsters frozen, and like seven Tori’s zooming around—but his heart roared out with its want and a ferocity even the mundane (no offense to the sword-maker of course) weapon in his hands responded to. Fwoosh! Flickering into life, bright orange flames erupted around the long claymore as Henoke closed the distance to where the frozen target remained prone and ready to defeat. ”EAT THIS!” Swinging with all of his might, Henoke lashed out with a powerful (albeit, clumsy) attack as the fire erupted around his sword and swallowed the blade hole, exploding out just as the slash would land.
FWOOM! Regardless of the results, the attack’s ferocity and sudden explosive power would cause the teen himself to be launched back. Even though he’d fought off the worst of the ailments through sheer force of will and rage, even that had limitations, after all. ”Huff…I…huff…told ya…I’d do it!” Panting as the world continued to spin, Henoke lay on his back in the grassy forest, completely disoriented and sapped of energy. It was clear that the ailments were taking their toll, especially considering such bizarre effects had never gripped the young warrior so vehemently. I won’t get caught by surprise again… Steeling a new determination in his heart, Henoke forced himself to sit up with a gruff groan as he rose a hand to his spiky head.
Fighting through the dizzy vision, he tried to see what had become of the fight.

Mei's concern was touching, and the soothing effects of her spell took effect almost immediately. The man was more than able to stand on his own now, though he still felt the strain of what happened. Using too much magic in a short span can do that.
“Since that’s done and gone with, why don’t we grab something before heading to HQ?” Yuto looked at her questioningly, not remembering Tori or Henoke asking for anything in particular. The teen's mention of a reward for those two sounded good. "We've all had a fairly eventful day, that's for sure. I guess we could all use 'icing on the cake', as it were." The man put air quotes around the cake bit and shrugged. "I'm sure they would appreciate it."
Yuto headed for the exit, making sure to not overdo it. Mei's spell helped, but the fatigue was returning quickly. "Honestly, some R and R overall sounds like a good way to end the day, don't you think?"

Frozen in place, the Malboro was unable to dodge the flaming strike from Henoke, shattering the cage of ice it found itself in only to be met by raging fire. The explosion following caught Tori by surprise, looking at the teen flying back while the monster was now gone, turned into dust and being carried by the wind. The girl chuckled with unease, walking towards him while, with one hand saving the sword back to its sheath, while the other rummaged for something in her pouch. ”Huff…I…huff…told ya…I’d do it!” The comment Henoke threw off caused Tori to laugh, amused, while nearing the teen on the floor. On her hand, she held a flask with a lightly blue liquid inside, a low pop! following her movement of the thumb to remove the cork. Sitting besides him, Tori handed the medicine over, a small smirk in her expression as she did so.
“Here —it’ll help you feel better” she said, “It’s a bit bitter, though, but don’t throw it up. It’s not gonna take effect immediately, either. It takes a few minutes” she added, remembering how impatient the teen was.
Once he grabbed the medicine (or refused, if he wanted to still feel like crap), Tori sighed. Truth be told, she hadn’t expected the Hunt to go so well, despite the small inconvenience it proved to be. Of course, while the girl knew what they were up against, Henoke didn’t —hence, his rush to the enemy he knew little about. Still, he handled it pretty well, compared to the first time Tori had fought a Malboro before.
He’d managed to fight off the ailments and continue on fighting, unlike her. That alone was impressive.
“After you start getting your bearings back, let’s regroup with Mei and Yuto by HQ” she mentioned, “We mentioned it before splitting, right? How we’d get some ice cream and talk a bit before calling it a day” Tori snickered, “While you’re at it, might as well get the taste off of your mouth, too.”
Mei smiled, nodding in thanks at the merchant after selling the gloves. Yuto seemed pleased with it, as well, now a bit better after the girl helped him out with her own magic. “I guess we could all use 'icing on the cake', as it were." The joke caused Mei to giggle, nodding along as Yuto agreed to buying something and regrouping with Tori and Henoke for some quick “R and R”.
“Then let’s do just that” the girl agreed, clapping her hands together, “I know of a particular flavor that I know you two will like. It’s a popular one for a reason” she added with a giggle.
She led the way through the town, now slightly tainted orange due to the falling dusk. Still early, with the night a few hours away, allowing the group to hang out for a little longer before going home. Who knew what tales awaited? Thinking on how lunch had been, pleasantly talking and laughing along with friends, Mei was truthfully looking forward to it.
A little bit of fun wouldn’t be bad, so long as everyone felt like it. A nice way to finish a day’s work.

C’mon…stupid body… Groaning a bit as he swayed and forced himself to sit up, Henoke continued to try to fight off the countless ailments plaguing him through force of will alone. The hot-headed youth was stubborn to a fault, at times. "Here—it’ll help you feel better.” Blinking in mild surprise, Henoke hadn’t even noticed Tori walk over to him until she spoke. Turning to look her way, the boy nearly toppled over as the world spun and three Tori’s offered a spinning bright blue bottle that twirled and had countless after-images (at least, to the sick and disoriented warrior). ”It’s a bit bitter, though, but don’t throw it up.” Scowling down at the bottle in his hand, the boy’s pride felt somewhat wounded at needing such a thing. Urk… Overcome with another wave of horrid sensations, Henoke finally swallowed his pride along with the potion, gulping down the contents in one swift plunge.
”Urgh! Gross!” Thankfully, the teen didn’t spit out or puke up any of the tonic—though the shiver that went over them and the grimace on their face made it clear that they thought the taste was foul. ”After you start getting your bearings back, let’s regroup with Mei and Yuto by HQ.” As Tori reminded him of their earlier commitment, Henoke was already attempting to stand back up, despite the fact that the potion needed some time to work. ”Right…ice cream.” Clearly still disoriented and somewhat dazed, the orange haired teen finally pushed themselves to their feet, albeit rocking slightly. ”Might as well get the taste off of your mouth, too.” Tori’s comment caused Henoke to scowl a bit, though he couldn’t do much to retort due to the sickness and fatigue he still tried to fight off. It did taste bad. Though not normally one to choose sweets as their go-to snack, anything that would remove the bitterness from his tongue sounded good right about now.
”Les’sgo!” Slurring his speech somewhat due to the grogginess of the ailments, Henoke took a swaying and wobbly step forward, clearly refusing to simply sit and recoup for a while due to some stubborn idea they had in their head. Though it would take some time for the ailments to wear off, the spiky-haired warrior would progress slowly, using their large weapon in it’s sheathe to prop themselves up as they walked through the forests and back towards town until they would finally manage to recover from the Malboro’s odd attack.

He followed Mei, curious what the flavor she talked about was. 'Eh, I'll find out soon enough.' He continued to follow his friend, enjoying the atmosphere. The tint of dusk making everything look a bit more natural in his opinion.
Yuto was also partially distracted by doing his normal fire practice with his darker variant, having little bulbs of black flame either appearing on multiple fingers or having them move from one to the next. Since the gloves made the risk minimal, he figured that practicing would be best.
"I can see this getting useful" the man was mostly talking to himself, but also spoke without really thinking. He was really just excited that he could defend himself better if he was empty-handed, and not put himself and other people in a worse position. It was a nice feeling.
"Hey, Mei. You think we should invite some of the others? Neku, Vaan, any of them?" Sure, getting the ice cream and having that R and R were because the four of them had a fairly hard but successful day. He couldn't help but think that Mei's friends might have had similar. "I mean, if they're busy we can't really change that. But we could always ask. Up to you." He ended his statement with a shrug and went back to practicing.

It was impossible for Tori to try and muffle a laugh, although she wished she could’ve just let it out. The pride of the teen in front of her was too amusing, yet there was subtle respect after seeing him listen to her indications, taking the medicine without much fuzz other than a clear disgust towards the bitter taste.
Deciding against continuing to tease, and instead help him out (even if he refused), Tori sighed with clear amusement, yet was kind enough to wrap one of Henoke’s arms around her neck, noticing how he was stumbling quite a lot due to the ailments that failed to disappear immediately with the medicine.
“I’m sure that, if you ask her, Mei’ll be more than pleased to lend you a hand later” she mentioned, “We’re close to the Eastern Shore this way, so… Let’s wait for ‘em there.”
Tori waited for no reply, instead leading the way through the forest maze, until slowly but surely the echo of the waves rocking against the sand would overwhelm the silence of the rustling leaves, with the sun still rather up in the blue sky, yet more towards the horizon, as time slowly went by. Once they were quite a few ways from the forest, and closer to the shoreline, Tori helped Henoke sit down, before taking a place herself in the warm sand. Taking a deep breath, she glanced over north, wondering if Mei and Yuto were on their way before turning back towards Henoke, wondering if he still felt as bad as at the beginning.
“Any better now?” she asked, “Do you… Need anything, before they come by?”
Training seemed fulfilling at the very least, with Yuto pleased with the results and the purchase. The old man was pleased by the pair buying the gloves, wishing them well along a few other things. With Mei leading the way through the market street, trying to spot what it was she had in mind to buy, she was caught aback with the sudden invitation.
While sharing the invitation with Neku or the rest of the Guild was a good idea, Mei pondered a little, wondering if they had plans themselves. Now thinking about it, though… Neku was nowhere to be found. He hadn’t said a thing, either, after helping Henoke out a little bit —not that she knew how it had ended. Thinking it had been just a regular training reel, the girl didn’t know the more intricate details and, as such, couldn’t have known the state of the boy.
“Well, it’s not a bad idea, but… Maybe they have other plans, just like us?” she asked, “It’s not like I can contact them now, either… Although I’m wondering where Neku went to…” she finished placing a finger on her lips, “We should have crossed him around here… But he’s nowhere to be seen. …I guess I’ll look for him later —I can’t really help but worry, despite knowing he’s okay on his own” she smiled with embarrassment.
Finishing off with a sheepish shrug, Mei continued to look around, finding the item she was looking for. A shop selling a variety of simple treats, both warm and frozen, kept neatly in their proper place. Rummaging first through a small box with plenty of ice cubes, Mei grabbed four white plastic wrappings, seemingly content, before paying them with small and cheap-looking coins, before turning back to Yuto.
“In any case… For now, let’s focus on meeting with Tori and Henoke!”
Finally noticing something at the corner of her eye, Tori blinked for a bit before smiling and standing up, although making sure didn’t do the same given his state, thing that would change if he seemed a little better than before. Mei and Yuto were on their way towards them, the girl holding a tote bag with her of seemingly light weight, and a smile on her expression. “Sorry we took so long” she apologized gently, “We did make most of the day anyways, though —so that’s a good thing!” Mei finished, looking at Yuto with a smile. “Good to hear. We got decent work done, as well” Tori nodded, “…So in the end, you bought ‘em all?” “It was my turn this time, anyways, so why not?” the girl rummaged through the bag, grabbing two and handing them over to Tori, “Here —for you and Henoke!”
Mei had made sure to hand Yuto’s beforehand, just in case, before grabbing her own. Walking towards Henoke, Tori passed his part, before opening the wrapping —a sky-blue ice-cream stick, one she brought directly to her mouth for a bite. It was sweet, yet a hint of saltiness remained, creating a pleasant sensation.
“Here —all for a day’s work!”

Though the teen barked out a meager protest as Tori assisted him with his own weight, Henoke hardly had the strength to fight off the help. The world still spun and his body felt like it weighed a ton. ”I’m sure that, if you ask her, Mei’ll be more than pleased to lend you a hand later.” Though he wasn’t too keen on the idea of others seeing him in such a weakened state, the orange-haired warrior merely grumbled and sighed before nodding in response. ”Stoopid…kakarrot.” Even his thoughts didn’t make much sense through the haze, though he mumbled a curse to the tentacle monster that had done this to him. With Tori assisting him walking through the forest, the two would be unbothered as they made their way back towards the sounds of lapping waves and sea-spray. By the time the shoreline was in eye-sight, Henoke at least felt better—some of the haziness in their head was gone, as well as the world feeling less wobbly and spinning. That said, it still felt refreshing to sit down as he and Tori plopped down in the warm sand, the calm ocean gazing back at them with the sun lower in the sky yet still bright and rejuvenating.
”Any better now?” The girl’s willingness to help only caused Henoke to scratch at their head sheepishly before averting their gaze. ”I’m fine! Nothin’ I can’t handle.” Waving off the worry, he sighed in mild relief at the sound of his own voice returning to him. Sure enough, the medicine that Tori had given him had seemed to begin working its magic. "Er…thanks.” It was one of the teen’s major flaws, other than their anger—their pride. Some things were easy for the boy to give thanks for—but helping him walk through the woods when he was sick from some stupid monster attack wasn’t one he was all too eager about. At least I beat the damned thing. Though the fight had gotten rather hazy and hard to recall after the ‘fog’ gunk or whatever—Henoke did recall finishing the monster off, though he didn’t remember any of the details around it. That included the fire that had erupted from the sword now sheathed on his back—an otherwise mundane and normal claymore, despite the fine craftsmanship.
Before Henoke could try to wrack his somewhat foggy brain for details once more, Tori’s notice of Mei and Yuto walking across the shoreline towards them distracted him from his train of thought. Grinning as the two made their way, Henoke pushed himself up out of the sand and waved his hands in greeting. ”Yo!” It seemed the moment others had come around, the boy’s remaining fatigue had vanished. Whether this was due to him being that easily distracted, or merely hiding the symptoms to save face, was another mystery. ”Sorry we took so long…” The orange-haired teen chuckled at the girl’s sheepishness, flashing Yuto a wide grin and a peace sign as well before he perked up in distracted interest. ”So in the end, you bought ‘em all?” That’s right! Tori had mentioned something earlier…about a treat or something to wash out the bitter taste of that medicine. Though the taste wasn’t still on his tongue, the mere thought of the medicine caused Henoke to shiver and grimace, sticking out his tongue at the recollection of the taste.
”It was my turn this time, anyways, so why not? Here—for you and Henoke!” Blinking in curiosity as Mei retrieved the multiple desserts, the teen realized he’d never seen something like this. Rather, he couldn’t recall having something like this. ”Here—all for a day’s work!” Watching as Tori unwrapped her own and took a bite, Henoke followed suit, his eyes sparkling a bit as his face brightened up upon seeing the bright blue that exposed itself. It looks like the ocean… For a moment, the easily-distracted warrior blinked and looked at the bright ice-cream, holding it up a bit as it caught the light on the sun. ”Ah!” It was then that a faint trickle slid down from the frozen treat, chilling his hands as he yelped out in surprise. It’s cold! Clearly, it was going to melt if he just kept looking at it—so the teen did the first thing he thought to do to solve the problem. Gulp! Sticking the entire treat into his mouth, Henoke bit down and slid the empty stick out of his mouth as he chomped.
”Mmmmm….” It was the sweetest thing he’d ever tasted, though it also had a savory salty bite to it. For a moment, the boy’s face was pure bliss. For a moment. ”Ack!” It only took a second for the brain-freeze to hit, especially as Henoke gulped down their massive mouth-full. Excruciating pain erupted behind his eyes, a sensation he’d never experienced (or rather, recalled experiencing) as he flinched and reflexively gripped at his head. The boy’s face paled and nearly seemed to change to an icy blue as their body went stiff and rigid, surely a comical sight to those more experienced with the frozen dessert. Maybe one day, the rowdy paladin would consider thinking before he acted…but clearly, it wasn't today.

“It’s not like I can contact them now, either… Although I’m wondering where Neku went to…” Yuto simply shrugged in understanding. He did consider them being occupied to be a likely scenario. "I'm sure the guy's fine. Reminds me a lot of Henoke, honestly. All energetic and a bit hardheaded." The last two points were said more to himself than anyone else.
He followed Mei to a treats shop, looking around to see all the different things offered. 'Must be a decent number of these kinds of shops.' He thought back to the other snack shop he went to not long ago. The man refocused his attention on Mei as she came up to him with what looked to be four treats wrapped in a white wrapper. He nodded in agreement with her statement about focusing on the event at hand before taking the treat she was handing him. "Oh, thanks."
Arriving at the beach, Yuto could see Tori stand to greet them as Henoke waved his arms around. He tried to hold back a laugh. Henoke's energetic attempt to get their attention was a nice change of pace for the day. Not that he didn't enjoy it. He waved back, treat firmly grasped in the hand he was waving as to not lose it. "Hey guys!"
He blushed a bit with a mix of pride and embarrassment as Mei mentioned how they made the most of their day. "I mean, if that's what you wanna call 'using so much magic in a short time that I almost pass out', then yeah we made the most of it." He let out a half-hearted chuckle at his statement.
After some light-hearted conversation, he opened his treat with everyone else. It was a light blue popsicle. Not thinking too much about it, he popped it in his mouth and was hit with a surprisingly salty yet sweet taste. 'This is...nice' He took a seat next to Henoke and stared out to the ocean.
"Ack!" The sound and look of Henoke's brain freeze caught Yuto off guard, but he had to stifle a laugh as the teen became stiff as a board in reaction. "Rub your tongue to the roof of your mouth. And slow down." Yuto had his fair share of brain freezes in his life, and that method usually worked to make them go away quicker. "Worst case, I can grab us some drinks to help even out the temperature." He looked mostly at Henoke when he said that, considering the teen's habit of doing more than he probably should.

”Ack!”
Having brought the popsicle to her mouth, Tori blinked as she looked at Henoke having a brain freeze, unable to hold back her laughter, muffled due to the treat in her mouth. Mei smiled with unease, clearly more worried about it, yet neither could deny the amusement the teen’s enthusiasm had brought —it was nice, in one way or another. Although maybe the target in question would beg to differ…
Tori rubbed under her nose, a sly smirk in her expression as she looked at Henoke, while Mei stepped forward a little to try and help out. "Rub your tongue to the roof of your mouth. And slow down." Yuto also seemed to give his own advice to help the orange-haired teen, advice that the girl found herself nodding faintly at. It was mostly better to try and lessen the frost slowly rather than suddenly, although such a thing would be easy given the mild warm weather.
“I don’t think drinks will be necessary, but if it comes to it, we could pick some up” Mei acknowledged, “Although I’m not sure how cold drinks can help… It’s not like today’s a day for, say, tea or similar…” “Well, Henoke was up to getting rid of the Remedy’s taste to begin with —so I say this one’s a win for him” Tori teased, chin held high as she maintained her smirk. “You… Gave him a Remedy? Why?” “Dude just had to get point-blank on a Malboro’s Bad Breath… Guess the rest of the story.” “Oh…” Mei turned towards Henoke, slightly more concerned, “Are you feeling any better, though? If all else fails, I can help out. Just let me know.”
The girl smiled as she finished, just like always. Tori took a seat back on the sand, glancing at the horizon, before looking at Mei and Yuto, wondering what they’d been up to after splitting up. Although the man had mentioned something about “using so much magic that I almost passed out”, which gave her an idea or two on what it was they did —and it was certainly not hunting.
Although she could’ve glanced a little to have an idea, she wanted to be surprised. Leaving the ice cream in her hand, after taking a decent bite, she began her inquiry.
“So? What were you two up to?” she asked, “Now’s a good time as any to catch up, right?” “Sure, I guess” Mei replied, looking at Yuto with a smile, “Although for the most part, we spent some time shopping and training, since Yuto wanted to try something out. It went well, though!” she tried to cheer the moment a little, chuckling with a hint of embarrassment. “That so…? Good to hear, though.” “What about you? You mentioned a Malboro… Is that what you went to hunt?” “Why not ask Henoke ‘bout it?”
Tori’s expression turned sly, mischievous even, as she looked at Henoke after saying her piece. She was curious to know what he managed to remember, wanting to just tag in to explain the more intricate details of the adventure. Not only that, but there was something she had seen, but Tori was unsure whether Henoke could explain that or not.
She would wait and see.

”Rub your tongue to the roof of your mouth.” Throbbing pain dulled into a chilled ache as Henoke’s sight finally managed to return to him, following his friends guidance through the chill-induced haze. ”Urgh…” Shaking the freezing feeling off, the teen seemed to shiver one last time before returning to themselves. ”Woah! That was crazy…” Blinking in clear surprise at the now cleaned off wooden stick of the ice-cream, Henoke’s golden eyes sparkled with both amazement and vague mistrust. ”Well, Henoke was up to getting rid o the Remedy’s taste to begin with—“ Though Tori’s smirk caused the boy to give a faint yet good humored scowl, sure enough, he noted that the taste was long gone. Sure enough, even most of the side effects from that bizarre attack had waned completely by now—the last bits jolted off by the sudden brain-freeze. Mei’s curiosity around the use of the ‘antidote’ caused the warrior to jolt back to awareness of the conversation, staggering for a second in haste to defend himself.
”Tch—I’m fine, seriously!” Puffing up his chest a bit in defiance, Henoke thumped a fist and gave Mei and Yuto a confident and devilish grin. ”’Sides, ya should see them. I gave it back tenfold!” Actually, now that he thought about it…how had he defeated the Marlboro, again? Tori had frozen it, letting him rush in to finish it off…but the details were hazy. ”So? What were you two up to?” Come to think of it, they hadn’t seen each other all day. All of the fighting had caused Henoke to totally forget what Yuto and Mei had even gone off to do. The lunch with Tori’s dad seemed like forever ago already. ”We spent some time shopping and training, since Yuto wanted to try something out.” Raising an eyebrow, the orange-haired teen glanced over at his friend with a competitive huff. ”Yer learnin’ more moves without me?!” There wasn’t enough time in the day! He needed to raise ranks in the Guild, but hated missing out on cool training arcs. If only I could clone myself…
”What about you? You mentioned a Malboro…is that what you went to hunt?” Tori’s ‘answer’ to Mei’s question (more like retort) caused Henoke to stagger for a moment before giving the girl another faint scowl and tossing his popsicle stick at her. Recovering his air of self-confidence, the young warrior fixed a wide grin on his face before puffing himself up yet again. ”Heh—it was crazy! It had these huge gooey arms that went all ‘whoosh’! And ‘slam’!” Sure enough, as the teen spoke, his mannerisms began to become more and more exaggerated, miming out motions to go with the ‘explanation’ (aka: sound effects). ”It came outta tha forest like ‘SHWOOM’! And I was all like “Toriiii!”! ‘SLICE!’ But it was all ‘BLERGH!’ And tried to like…I don’t know, puke on me or somethin’?!” The memory of the Bad Breath attack caused Henoke’s face to crinkle up and stick their tongue out.
”It was a pretty stupid monster.” For a moment, the boy paused, despite his clear enthusiasm at recounting the ‘epic’ tale. ”Er…then…?” Blinking for a moment in confusion, Henoke crossed his arms while glancing up towards the sky, trying to recount the details. ”Uh…Tori…froze it, or somethin’? Anyway, I totally finished it off! Made it shatter like ‘BSHSHSHSHSH!” Upon the end of his recounting, the boy threw up his hands and spread his fingers to mime out an explosion, clearly proud of his retelling despite the obvious lack of detail and gaps. ”Ya shoulda been there! I’m sure we’ll shoot up in the ranks fer’sure, now!” It was then the boy blinked in open surprise, as though just now remembering something they'd forgotten. "Wait!" He'd totally gotten distracted by Tori's jab and urging of him to tell the story. Pointing at Yuto, Henoke shouted out with a clear determination. "Ya gotta show me what ya were trainin' on! There's no way I'm lettin' ya hog all the cool moves!"

"Yeah, you're right." Yuto shrugged, laying in the sand as Tori and Mei talked about their day. He laughed a bit hearing how Henoke needed a Remedy, more so to the teen's reaction. "Eh, we've all been hit by the odd status effect now and then, right?"
"Training, making sure my own magic doesn't kill me. Toh-may-toh, to-mah-to." The man stuck the half-eaten popsicle in his mouth and held up one of his newly gloved hands. "Supposed to help with Dark resistance, I think. Either way, I count not blowing myself up a win."
Finishing his popsicle, the man sat up. "As for what I've been learning, Henoke..." Yuto scratched the back of his head. "I do have something in my back pocket, but i was just refining stuff this time 'round." He held up his index finger as a small black and purple flame blinked to life on its tip.
"Last time I used this, well, you guys saw the bandages at lunch. Thanks to the gloves, if I use this form of my magic without a separate catalyst, I don't fry my body parts." He put the flame out and lay back down. "Small victories."
"My escapades aren't too important though." Yuto glanced over to Tori. "Tell us more about that Malboro. As good of a storyteller as Henoke is, you were the one who had all their brain cells working towards the end of the fight."

Taking no time at all to start explaining with as much gusto as he could muster through, Henoke began with his outlandish storytelling, causing Tori to smirk as she looked away. Mei and Yuto seemed captivated by the tale, listening in closely despite the teen’s faltering at some points he could not properly recall, all while eating the frozen treats in hand calmly (unlike a certain someone who’d chomped it in one go).
In the case of Mei, she couldn’t help but smile a little at the thought of the battle, knowing all too well what it was that they had fought. While somewhat caught off-guard by what seemed to be an ambush from the Mark while they were looking for it, things seemed to wrap up nicely, aside the obvious Bad Breath Henoke received first-hand.
At least he would know better now, though, right?
”Ya shoulda been there! I’m sure we’ll shoot up in the ranks fer’sure, now!” Both girls blinked a bit, astonished, and while one sighed with clear amusement at the thought, the other seemed confused. Had they… Not explained how that system worked?
It was possible, given the hectic day they had.
“I’m not sure you really grasped on how the Ranks go…” Mei said with unease, “It’s not just a matter of fighting Marks left and right —it’s a bit deeper than that…” “You need to take an Aptitude Test to determine your strength —not just fight monsters, Henoke” Tori said, having bitten half-way into her popsicle, “Although I’m sure you would fluke the thing 10 times before even passing it.” “Tori, that’s mean…” “It’s true, though.”
Although the teen was sure to retort back, with good reason, it seemed the first thing in the table was to have Yuto explain what he was training on —thing that the man wasted no time in getting into. Showcasing the recently purchased item and flaunting the training’s payoff (to a point), Yuto seemed pleased with the day’s work. He was quick to toss the ball Tori’s way, asking for a more concise explanation of the Mark. “As good of a storyteller as Henoke is, you were the one who had all their brain cells working towards the end of the fight." Tori looked at Yuto, her expression blank in shock, before inevitably laughing aloud —so much so, that she had to hold her gut back, although making sure her half-eaten treat wouldn’t fall to the ground.
It was just too good to not laugh at.
“That was an insult and a half!” she said amongst laughter, “Holy hell… I don’t think I’ve laughed this hard in ages…!” Tori could only muster a little before chuckling further. “Oh boy…” Mei sighed, “Aren’t you going a bit too far with that overreaction, Tori…?” “Okay, okay, lemme just… Calm down a little…” the girl took a deep breath, still chuckling every now and then, with her eyes somewhat teary, “Alright, so… On with the story, right?” It’s not much different, though —Henoke did sum it up decently, aside a few details” Tori leaned back a little, propping herself upright with the help of her free hand, looking at the setting sun by the horizon, “The thing ambushed us, but Henoke saw through it. After that, we fought a little, cornering it —which caused it to retaliate the way it did. Henoke took the thing head-first, while I managed to dodge out of the way. After that… I managed to encage it with a Blizzaja spell, and left it to this guy to finish the job. I mean, I can’t just let all that pent-up anger going to waste, right?” “What happened next? I take it Henoke finished it off?” “He did. The claymore went up in flames, thawing the ice the Malboro was trapped in only to meet a raging fire. Which reminds me” Tori leaned a little towards Henoke, a michevious glint in her eyes and smirk, “You mentioned you couldn’t use magic without your Keyblade, but what was that show earlier, if not magic? I doubt Verun would make a blade that combusts into a fiery sword. Were you holdin’ back on me?”

”I’m not sure you really grasped on how the Ranks go…” Mei’s unease pulled Henoke away from his eagerness around potentially mooching some dope moves off of Yuto, causing him to raise a brow and tilt his head at her in clear confusion. ”Huh?” You couldn’t raise through the Guild ranks just by defeating monsters? ”You need to take an Aptitude Test to determine your strength—not just fight monsters, Henoke.” Tori seemed to speak nonchalantly while eating her ice-cream, though her comment of him flunking a bunch caused the teen to stagger and flash a look of indignation. ”Tch—yea, right! If it’s a test o’ strength, I’ll pass fer sure!” Flashing a rather cocky and confidant grin at his friend, the spiky haired warrior pointed at Tori with a demanding stance, a fire in his eyes. ”Lemme take that test! I’ll show ya just how strong I am!” It seemed despite learning about a new obstacle in his path, Henoke was ready to continue towards his goal regardless. Was it purely willpower, determination or pure stubbornness? Probably the latter, considering it seemed the boy hardly understood what this ‘test’ entailed, thinking of something like one of those carnival games where you have to hit a hammer really hard to ring a bell, or something.
”As for what I’ve been learning, Henoke…” Yuto sat in the sand, pulling Henoke from his battle as he flashed a small black and purple flame. ”Thanks to the gloves, if I use this form of my magic without a separate catalyst, I don’t fry my body parts.” As the flame extinguished, Henoke scratched at his head a bit, his face mildly dumbstruck. "Cat...list…?” To be honest, when it came to magic, the rowdy paladin was a horrible student. Unable to learn basic spells in typical fashion, the only magic the Key-bearer was able to wield were those he had an affinity towards. Most of them had just sort of…happened. There were some spells Henoke had never grasped, as well as some he’d never heard of. Half of what Yuto was saying was lost on the boy who only saw a familiar flame and felt a mild sensation of underwhelming anticlamaticism at it all. ”Well, guess it’s good ya won’t blow up, at least.” Grinning at his friend, the boy chuckled and shrugged it off—hoping eventually he’d show him something worthwhile.
”Tell us more about that Malboro.” Yuto’s want of Tori to retell the tale, as well as his jab about Henoke suffering from the Bad Breath, caused Henoke to shout out indignantly as he kicked sand Yuto’s way, crossing his arms and huffing his cheeks a bit. ”Tch—my story was awesome, jerk!” Tori’s cackling in the background at it all had only added to his sandy vengeance. ”Aren’t you going a bit too far with that overreaction, Tori…?” Rolling his eyes at his nearly crying friend, Henoke snorted in agreement with Mei. ”Tell me ‘bout it…” Glaring at Yuto and Tori both, the teen shook out a fist—though it was clear the wound to his pride was superficial at most, rather than a genuine hurt. ”Yer both actin’ like I won’t sock you one!” As Tori finally recovered herself, she at least had enough decency to toss a compliment his way, only managing to sizzle and smoke a section of the fire. ”Henoke did sum it up decently, aside a few details.” The boy in question stuck a tongue out at Yuto while flipping a rude gesture with his hand. ”See!”
Hearing Tori’s retelling, the rowdy paladin simmered down a bit, enraptured by the more detailed account despite having literally been involved in the fight. ”The claymore went up in flames, thawing the ice the Malboro was trapped in only to meet raging fire.” Blinking for a second, Henoke raised a brow, glancing over at Tori. Huh? Wait a second, that wasn’t how it went. He couldn’t use magic, remember? ”You mentioned you couldn’t use magic without your Keyblade, but what was that show earlier…?” Henoke had seemed to stop listening, giving Tori a blank look as he slowly walked over to her in the sand, reaching out and grabbing at her head for a moment, craning over her with his extra height and tilting and turning it in a few directions to take a good look at it. ”Uh-oh, you guys…I think Tori’s busted.” With a mild look of genuine concern and mostly confusion, Henoke continued his ‘inspection’ with diligence. "Weird…I didn’t think it hit ya in the head’r nothin’…”
He wasn’t rough with her, just checking for injuries, apparently.

Yuto listened to Tori and Mei's explanation of the aptitude tests. It made a certain amount of sense, you had to prove you had what it takes to move up in the ranks. Meanwhile, Henoke was as sure of his abilities as ever.
Tori and Henoke's reaction to what he said about Henoke being hit by the Malboro's attack made him turn a bright shade of pink as he put his arms up to block the sand that was knocked at him. "I was just stating a fact. You didn't remember the end of the fight, Henoke."
He perked up at the mention of Henoke's weapon going aflame. The wayward warlock tilted his head at Tori. "His sword went on fire? You're sure?" He put a hand on Henoke's shoulder. "Dude, I'm sure she's fine. Sometimes we do things in a fight we don't remember. Adrenaline and all that." He looked at both Tori and Henoke, wanting to be sure that what Tori said was true.
"I only ask, because I have some experience setting weapons on fire. So if Henoke can do it, I can help him do it both consistantly and whenever he wants to."

Tori perked up a little, the stick in her mouth falling down yet still staying in place, as she looked back at Henoke, who was walking a bit absent-mindedly towards her, something that didn’t exactly spark enthusiasm or joy on her side. The following actions certainly weren’t any more pleasant, with the teen checking over her head as if she’d gotten injured or something —a sight that made her scowl and flail her arms and trying to drive him away.
"Weird…I didn’t think it hit ya in the head’r nothin’…” The excuse didn’t help Henoke’s case one bit. Flaring a little, Tori stood up rather swiftly, about to smack the teen if he continued his messing around, although Yuto stepped up with a more than perfect timing, stopping her from acting recklessly by siding with her, albeit it in a different way. He looked between the pair of teens, a hint of curiosity behind his intentions —something both Mei and Tori picked on.
In a sense, it was somewhat expected that everyone would be curious about the actual events during their fight.
“So if Henoke can do it, I can help him do it both consistantly and whenever he wants to." The final words of the man would most definitely spark interest in Henoke, but right now, Tori’s aim was elsewhere. Sighing with clear annoyance, she scowled at the teen, both hands on her hips while her face drew a more than obvious pout. Already very tempted to smack him, the girl had to draw all of her patience in order to properly explain.
“Did you forget already, Henoke?” she asked, irritation clear in her voice, “Not only am I a horrible liar, but my memory’s perfectly clear. Unless you’re confusing me with Kosuke —which seems to be the case—, I never forget anything important. Ever.” “I’ll… Vouch for the most part on that…” Mei stepped in, also standing up, “It’s rare for Tori to forget anything… Much less something recent.” “So, when I say that your weapon went up in flames, I mean it. Which makes me wonder now if that was also one of your flukes…”
Finally having gotten the words out of her chest, Tori took a deep breath, finding some relaxation in voicing her points. Thinking a little sparked an idea, which made itself evident as she held her hands forward just a bit, a more than familiar mist sparkling alight in the form of a wisp. Mist was quick to flare up around her akin a gentle gust of wind —a sight Mei wasn’t expecting in the slightest, yet not one she was very shocked by, having seen it multiple times before.
Was Tori really…?
“And if you still don’t believe me, I can always show you —you and everyone else here” Tori said, looking at Henoke, but quickly a teasing smirk rising in her lips, “That is, if you really wanna show them how badly you messed up before that… Though I think you’re not getting off easily from this one…” she glanced over at Yuto, wondering how impressed he would be, and how tempted he was about the idea of actually seeing the experience the teens had went through. “Well… I, for once, don’t think it’s fair on Henoke to show what happened…” Mei voiced her concerns, “Wouldn’t that just make him look bad?” “I can make up for it. After all, he did win a bet yesterday —and I’m still abiding to it. So there’s still something in it for him” Tori finished with a shrug.

”Dude, I’m sure she’s fine.” Yuto’s hand on his shoulder caused Henoke to halt his ‘inspection’, having essentially ignored Tori’s attempts at stopping him himself (it seemed she really would have had to smack him, if their friend hadn’t intervened). ”Sometimes we do things in a fight we don’t remember.” Though the prideful warrior seemed slow to believe the fact he’d missed something that big, the older friend's curiosity seemed to distract his own temporary concern for Tori. ”I only ask, because I have some experience setting weapons on fire.” The orange-haired teen couldn’t help but get enthusiastic at hearing an offer to learn some cool fire-based moves—immediately turning towards his friend with stars in his eyes as he shouted out “Woah, f’real?!” Though he was about to immediately demand Yuto to perform such a feat and teach him how to do it on the spot regardless, Tori acted as the perfect barrier to his rowdiness with her own reminder. ”Did you forget already, Henoke?” Her scowl only emphasized the clear irritation oozing out of her.
”Not only am I a horrible liar, but my memory’s perfectly clear.” Oh yeah, there was something she’d said about that before, right? About not being able to lie? ”It’s rare for Tori to forget anything…much less something recent.” Mei chimed in as well, only adding to the fact that it seemed the story wasn’t wrong. Having been adamant on fighting against the bizarre ailments that the Malboro’s attack had set upon him, Henoke had hardly considered the fact that due to the grogginess and delirium during, he’d not been ‘fully present’ for the end of the fight. ”Which makes me wonder now if that was also one of your flukes…” Still skeptical, the orange-haired warrior pouted a bit as he crossed his arms. ”Tch—ya make it sound like I do stuff without meanin’ it all the time!” Of course, part of Tori’s statement was totally fact—but it wasn’t like the young teen was receptive or even close to agreeing to such an idea.
Confidence was a double-edged sword, after all. Though Henoke was sure of himself, which was a good thing, it seemed he hardly ever considered his random bouts of good luck to be anything other than his own skill. ”Hey, what’re ya—?!” Seeing Tori hold her hands forward as a familiar mist began to gather, the spiky haired paladin whipped their head around. Though in a sense he’d grown accustomed to the spirits odd powers, it was never something he’d totally get used to. ”I can always show you—you and everyone else here.” There was a sudden tone to her voice that caused Henoke to scowl, narrowing his gaze. ”That is, if you really wanna show them how badly you messed up before that…” There it was—the surprise attack! ”Tch—!” Staggering as the true intent was revealed, the teen couldn’t help but feel further cowed as Mei jumped to his defense. ”I, for one, don’t think it’s fair on Henoke to show what happened…” He couldn’t help but feel somewhat more hopeless by having her leap in so quickly.
Then again—if Tori was serious this whole time (which she definitely seemed to be), he’d really done something like that? For a moment, the teen glanced at the large sword holstered in its sheath over his shoulder. Burst inta flames, huh? It sounded pretty cool, he couldn’t lie. Part of him definitely wanted to see it, since he didn’t remember anything like that happening. Of course, the prideful and more stubborn part of his heart was less than ready to reveal his blunder by taking the attack head-on. ”Gr…like I care! Watch whatever ya want!” With a slightly reddened face, Henoke threw his hands up and swatted at the wisp before crossing his arms, huffing yet silent after a few moments of grumbling. It seemed he was torn between embarrassment and curiosity—though which one would truly outweigh the other?

Henoke's reaction to his statement wasn't entirely unexpected, though Yuto did let out a bit of a laugh. Yeah, of course. Unlike you, Henoke, I don't have a magic key the size of my body. So I learned other ways to defend myself. The man thought for a moment, trying to find a way to remind his friend that he had seen what he could do before. Remember all the stuff I was doing when we first met? At that place with the golden chains and training field?"
Tori's interjection caught his attention. He had never taken her for any kind of liar in the time that he knew her, and it sounded like Henoke already knew that. That train of thought derailed when he noticed the wisp in Tori's hand, as well as the mist around her. “And if you still don’t believe me, I can always show you —you and everyone else here”
Mei, what is sh-" The man stopped mid-question, slowly starting to understand what Tori was talking about. 'Is she going to replay what happened? It would make sense, given her abilities.' Tori's jabs seemed to get a reaction out of Henoke, and not one of the better ones. He was a bit torn, while he sided with Mei it would be a waste for Henoke to not learn to properly use a move that could be useful in the long run.
Henoke, I get that you don't wanna look bad in front of us, but you can't be the top guild member if you don't know what skills you can use." He put a hand on his friend's shoulder before looking back over to Mei. "And while I agree with you, Mei, if he can learn what actually happened it would be good for him later on."
If everyone was in agreement, he would ask Tori to go ahead with her replay.

The wisps playing in her hand remained in place, as Tori waited for a consensus on the matter at hand. While she had expected Mei to jump into Henoke’s defense, knowing the girl for who she was since quite a while, she hadn’t expected Yuto to be somewhat neutral —leaning towards her side in order to help the rowdy teen out with his own array of magics. The orange-haired teen’s comment caused her to smirk, although he didn’t seem against the idea.
“Alright, then —don’t regret it later, Henoke” Tori teased back, “’Cause I’m not keeping any detail out of this one.”
The wisps in her hand flourished, surrounding the team in endless misty grey. Tori’s eyes flashed violet for only a second, before everyone’s vision became clouded for a fraction of a second —almost as if they had teleported elsewhere. The scenery didn’t change much, aside perhaps the time of day, though the exact time was hard to determine due to the many canopies of tall trees covering most of the sky from view, leaving only a few specs of light here and there to pass through. Upon realizing where they were, the group (that is, Henoke and Yuto —Mei has already seen this kind of thing before after all) would realize that they were there —not looking through someone else’s eyes.
They were in complete control of their actions, words and view —although interacting with their surroundings would prove useless.
After a while, the group would spot another Tori and another Henoke —though they were, of course, mere illusions conjured by the real Tori, showing exactly what it was that transpired during their Hunt. Tori’s reflection (let’s call it that, okay?) seemed focused elsewhere, her hand hovering over the sword’s handle, not noticing a faint movement and rustling of leaves behind her, quickly turning into a slimy tentacle aimed towards her.
”Look out!” Moving swiftly, Henoke’s reflection drew the large sword and deflected the attack, quick to lunge forward by making use of his High Jump, zig-zagging through the trunks of trees before lashing out an attack, joining along Tori’s own Thundaja spell. The creature in question didn’t take long in retaliating, using its signature Bad Breath and catching Henoke’s reflection off-guard. The teen howled in disgust, the sickly green stench cloud covering his view. “Henoke!” Tori’s reflection shouted, managing to cover the off-guard teen from an otherwise powerful attack, looking determined at the Mark.
“Stay low —I got this” Ushering an order to Henoke’s reflection, the girl’s own rushed forward after conjuring Blizzaja, striking swiftly with her Elegant Flurry and keeping the Malboro out of Henoke’s reach —though hardly for long. Staggering a little before standing up straight and fighting off the ailments, Henoke looked beyond pissed. ”Don’t…look down…ON ME, ASSHOOOOLE!” Finding the strength to push forward, it only took a second for the flames to flicker to life, surrounding the claymore in the teen’s hands as he pushed forward to deliver the final blow. Shouting a final ”EAT THIS!”, the flames in Henoke’s sword erupted and swallowed the blade, explosions covering the view as the hit connected.
After the smoke cleared out, so did the mist —with the group returning to where they had been. Mei blinked a little as Tori took a deep breath, the wisps in her hand dissipating without trouble, before both of them looked at Henoke —one a little more annoyed than the other.
“So?” Tori asked, “Now you’ll believe me? Or are you still gonna go off and say that’s all in my head?”
