The two Adventurers wasted no time to deal with the Primal as it began its assault with a rampage. Lamont took the front, while Reena aided from afar. M’Lyn also chose a distanced approach at first, this being a Primal she had never faced before. She’d heard Kujo’s shout from within the storm, though her focus was hardly shattered as she pummeled Garuda with a Stone spell, making use of her staff in the blink of an eye.
The three “natives” of that world would be able to lend him a hand, if things got dicey.
Reena took aim, shooting out a Venomous Bite, causing Garuda to turn her way, but Lamont was quick in the uptake by thrusting his spear forward with Fang and Claw. Of course, the two of them had perfect synergy when attacking and defending, having battled other Primals before this one —even admitting to having fought Garuda once before. Yet all that wouldn’t amount to a guaranteed victory.
Enraged, the Primal shrieked yet again, its cries being carried by the wind, before its talons swiped horizontally towards both Kujo and Lamont, using Downburst —aiming to cleave anything in front of it. Lamont jumped out of the way, countering with a strong Jump before returning to where he stood prior, Reena aiming once more with her Bloodletter. M’Lyn noticed wounds on Lamont’s weaponsarm, and immediately casted Medica, much for the Dragoon’s relief.
Garuda quickly took notice of Kujo and his Akogare, having received the blunt of his Wakeru. With another shriek, the winds around her began to glow –a sight all 3 Adventurers were wary off. Surrounded by powerful gusts of wind, Garuda shrieked once again, this time its voice piercing through any sort of concentration, and the storm of winds exploded around her, the attack surrounded by mist and aether —its powerful Aerial Blast was a direct attack towards the enemies attacking it.
“Kujo!” M’Lyn shouted.
She noticed the attack being a special one —Garuda had realized that one of the members was not blessed by the Echo. While she attempted to run to shield her partner, the gust of wind was way too fast, and Reena jumped in front of her to use her own Echo and shield them both. Thankfully, Lamont was quick on the uptake —jumping towards Kujo, in the nick of time, he used his own Echo to conjure an aether shield, protecting the pugilist from the attack, both of them staying unscathed. “…” Lamont groaned, before looking over his shoulder to urge Kujo into attack, “Let’s both take the front —Reena and Lynhye can cover for us from afar! Do not be afraid to assault from up-close —so long as you’re within my sight, I shall shield you with my Echo from Garuda’s enthralling.”
Two things would be clear from the Elezen’s tone —one, the fact that he was referring to M’Lyn with the name she preferred not to be called, though simply because he acknowledged her past and, therefore, as a comrade despite his views, though Kujo would probably not notice this very clearly. The other was that, so long as it meant getting the mission done, he wasn’t opposed to helping and shielding Kujo if it meant defeating Garuda quicker.
In his eyes, it was an advantage they could make use of.

Garuda’s Downburst cleaved through the air as Kujo had sent his guardian in to strike. While his attack was undisturbed, the weakness to him summoning his Akogare in this sense meant he was on his own in terms of defense. Thankfully, the man’s physical prowess was beyond normal measure, even before obtaining these odd powers. Leaping over the attack, Kujo was sliced with minor cuts from the sheer force of wind and raw strength as he landed on the other side.
His attack had landed full—the one thing saving the annoyance he felt as he and his guardian rejoined. Garuda’s shriek of rage was music to his ears. “Kujo!” M’Lyn’s shout confirmed his suspicions however, as the God’s multiple wings began to glow and shimmer with energy. Seeing the storm gather before exploding, the man had already been making his way to her.
Though fast in his own right, Kujo didn’t have the aid of his Akogare to boost himself, given its summoned form floating alongside him. The speed he needed wasn’t what either team member were capable of. CLANG! Lamont soon stood before him, protecting both of them from the explosive blast of storm and Aether. “Let’s both take the front—“
The odd shield he had summoned to block dissipated within the same instance it had appeared, though it’s colors and properties reminded Kujo of the crystals they had had to attune to in this world. “Do not be afraid to assault from up-close—so long as you’re within my sight.” Though some of his pride stung from having to rely on others, he had to admit that being able to close in would be refreshing.
Still…this guy… Why’d it have to be him he got stuck with? Whatever. He’d have to get over it. They were fighting a God after all. That was what M’Lyn had warned him about—this ‘Echo’ shield. Being someone not of this world, it was hardly something he’d have. It must be a special power they have.[/b] It would make sense for a deity to have some tricks up its sleeves.
”Fine. Watch my back.” With a sigh, he finally let go of his ego. Within the span of a second, his guardian had disappeared. Instead, the man was surrounded by a bright lilac colored aura. Tch—that damned Couerclaw… As he used his enhanced speed to weave across the battlefield as though a blur, Kujo mentally kicked himself for having used his fused state on the villain in the woods.
He’d have to remember that.
I just need more time! Channeling his frustration into his fists, the pugilist had charged Garuda from the front, closing the distance as he used the superhuman power he had to leap high into the air. Despite the God’s massive size, Kujo had leapt high enough into the air to nearly see eye-level with them, leaving only a small crater in the earth below shaped like his footprints as evidence to having ever been on the ground.
”Girooooo—“ Kujo readied his stance as a bright light began to shimmer around his own leg. Surrounding it was what almost looked like an after-image—the leg of their guardian. ”—CHIN!” Exploding as though a light suddenly turned on in a dim room, his attack would attempt to cleave the God’s collar-bone as he delivered the impossibly fast and powerful axe kick.
Whether or not the attack did what he needed, Kujo was sure it would at least help either create an opening for the others, or allow them to build a combo.

Now with a tighter strategy, Lamont hardly had to worry much, knowing Kujo was at least cooperative enough to trust him. Following the pugilist’s approach, the Dragoon soared into the air, his lance engulfed in flames as he dove alongside Kujo’s Girochin with his own Dragonfire Dive. Reena, noticing the charge, strung her lyre to follow the tune of Mage’s Ballad —ensuring that their attacks dealt more damage to the Primal.
At a distance, M’Lyn conjured Ruin II, the bullets of light landing its mark. She perked up, feeling something changing at her hip —the blade that was once dull and completely devoid of power was starting to pick up its previous aura. She found it odd, but her attention was now devoted to fighting Garuda. She couldn’t afford losing sight of her objective.
Taking aim, Reena’s bow began to glow in a golden light at the end of the arrow, before releasing the string. In the blink of an eye, her Refulgent Arrow had pierced through Garuda’s chest, though the Primal didn’t seem defeated whatsoever. Having received the attack from both front-liners, as well as a powerful shot from the Bard, it was beyond enraged. The shrieks she conjured were deafening, the gusts around her growing stronger by the second —it seemed a God was hard to defeat, after all.
The winds grew furious, closing in towards the center of the arena, the sharp winds acting as blades at the same time as walls —the area they could fight on began to close in on them. Of course, Garuda didn’t have to care, for it commanded the wind itself —the storm obeyed her call. The winds around her wings grew powerful, and the Primal took into the sky with uncanny agility, before diving down with her Wicked Wheel —the winds acting like a blast to anything close to her. Lamont managed to jump back, but waited for Kujo before striking again.
All the while, both Reena and M’Lyn stood at the ready from afar, taking aim and readying their own abilities to support the ones taking the more damage. It was hardly going to be an easy fight, but no Adventurer was giving up now.
They had to win.

Now that he and the party had a strategy (despite hasty), the group began to put in work. Garuda was assaulted from the front by both Kujo and Lamont’s pincer attack. Sure enough, M’Lyn and Reena were quick to follow suit with their lead. Both played support and side damage with expertise—the fact they were seasoned warriors was only demented by their intuition, grace and power.
Shrieking in enraged indignation once more, the deity began to gather wind currents. Thankfully, it didn’t hold the same aura as the one before. Wind speeds only continued to increase, threatening to rip unwary adventurers off their feet as the arena began to be closed in around them from the surrounding storm.
Within moments, Garuda took to the raging skies. Seems those wings aren’t just for show. Kujo’s thought was bitter as he watched the massive God turn in the air, twisting to spike down towards them! Useless! Retaining his composure, the pugilist used his enhanced prowess to leap back with an insanely powerful kick.
SkooOooOoOm!!!
The earth would shake as Garuda’s wheeling attack connected with the earth. Though he’d rocketed himself away with a powerful example of leg strength, Kujo threw up his arms in a cross-guard as debris, rock and earth splintered and spiraled through the air upon impact. It left a litter of small wounds peppering his body, but no more than a barrage from a high-powered B.B gun.
With Reena and M’Lyn supporting from the back and Lamont shielding him from the front, he felt assured in his next assault. Unfortunately, it was still too soon to regain the energy needed to reinstate his fusion. Especially while expending energy on this battle. Screw that! He wasn’t a one trick pony! What was he thinking?!
Rushing across the cracked and shattered arena at a blinding speed, Kujo’s frustration and composed fury focused in his clenched and shimmering fists. The aura around him only brightened as he charged. ”You may be a God—“ Once he regained his distance, the man propelled himself from the earth, landing and running to along the deity’s outstretched limbs.
”—but you’ve never met someone like me!” Having run up along the God’s arm, Kujo had reached their shoulder as they used their infused power to rocket towards their face. Instead of a punch, Kujo propelled himself with crossed arms as his form began to radiate with a blinding light. ”Get outta my sight!”
Unleashing his DokiDoki ability, a torrent of radiant hearts erupted forth from the man. Exploding in blinding bursts of light and power, the main goal of the frontal attack was obvious—as it aimed for the eyes. With each burst and explosion, even if the damage was minimal compared to other skills in his repertoire, they were bound to either blind or distract Garuda for a moment.
Kujo knew that was all his comrades needed—an opening.
It seemed the proud pugilist had really learned something about teamwork and humility, at least on some level, while they were here.

”Get outta my sight!”
The shout was enough of a key for Lamont to dash forward yet again, using Kujo’s first strike to attack with brute strength. He pushed his spear forward, using his Piercing Talon to attack the Primal now distracted and blinded by Kujo’s Dokidoki. Garudia shouted in anger, but the pugilist’s attack did what it was looking for —create an opening for the rest to use. Since the Dragoon had made use of it, it was clear it was a success.
Reena continued to shoot from afar, aiming true with each of her arrows, and M’Lyn had conjured a Topaz Carbuncle to help further. The creature had conjured weak stones that shot forth towards the Primal, the Gouge ability maintaining the opening for them to continue attacking Garuda, and not leaving room for a counterattack.
The burning sensation at her hip only continued to grow stronger, eventually being enough of a nuisance for M’Lyn to even dare glance at the weapon she’d picked up earlier —shocked by the sudden surge of power the weapon was now carrying. Wasn’t it completely devoid of power just seconds ago? When did it gain so much strength?
“…Is this its true potential… Or is it something else…?”
It had acted similar earlier —back when they were fighting him. It had drained aether from somewhere, but M’Lyn hadn’t been able to tell from where at first. It wasn’t until he had begun to falter and his energy began to dwindle that M’Lyn realized the weapon was draining his aether —but it hadn’t been like that from the beginning. So, where had it taken it from?
At that moment, that single second… It all made sense —the more aether around it, the powerful it became. It didn’t matter whether it was from the one wielding it, or its enemy, the weapon would drain ravenously at any source of energy, using the scraps and leftovers the battle left around it to gain strength.
And if that was the case… It was only natural it was brimming with power now —their enemy was a God, no less. A Primal, a being completely made with aether. What made the weapon, if not the perfect trump card against such an enemy?
The suggestion was far too tempting to ignore —M’Lyn dismissed the Carbuncle and saved away the staff, holding both rapier and Honor the same way she’d seen him take it. The aura of the weapon was almost incredibly overpowering —almost robbing her away of all sense, noticing the surging bloodlust the aura alone had. Still, being who she was, M’Lyn was able to suppress the bloodlust of the weapon, glaring at Garuda as she took her stance.
Flames rose from the hilt of the rapier. Using it akin a rod, M’Lyn conjured a spell she only grasped the straws of —the powerful Verfire striking true at the Primal’s chest. Both Lamont and Reena were caught off-guard by the power behind the spell, their eyes immediately turning towards M’Lyn, who was now only slightly staggered, as if something had injured her…
“What are you standing there for, gawking around?!” the Miqo’te shouted back, almost with a bitter tone, “Make use of the opening and finish the bloody job already!”

Thankfully the blow to his pride had been worth it. All teammates were quick to pounce, using the opening his attack had made to pummel Garuda with a relentless assault. With the God prone after M’Lyn’s Carbuncle had joined the fray, yet another opening lay itself bare. ”Pathetic.” Grumbling as he readied his shimmering fists, Kujo prepared to use the fresh opportunity.
ShwooooOoOoOm!
That is—until the weapon on M’Lyn’s hip burst to life. It radiated an energy far superior than when they’d first seen it back in the forest. The explosive presence had caused the man to pause, turning on his heels as his emerald gaze landed on the atrocious artifacts.
Skkkiiiiist! Watching as his ally drew the weapon, Kujo raised his brows in surprise as the thin rapier burst alive with flames. Watching as M’Lyn’s powered-up spell lanced the God’s chest, he knew it was now or never. This was their chance. “What are you standing there for, gawking around?!”
While she chastised Lamont and Reena, the Miqo’te would find Kujo picking up where he left off. While Garuda was stunned, the shimmering pugilist had managed to run along its limp arm. One hit…! He couldn’t summon the power of his fused state just yet, but surely he could pull off one 100% punch?
”Useless!” Reaching Garuda’s shoulder, Kujo exploded with light as he rushed in. The radiant lilac aura around him intensified, trailing off of him as though a banner. As he readied his fist, the explosion of light seemed to concentrate there. For a moment, the man’s hand and arm appeared like that in his fused state—Akogare’s armor littering Kujo’s muscular form.
”Haretsu!” Within that moment, the man found a new way to use his powers. Swinging everything into the punch, Kujo concentrated all of his might to channel his fused state in his arm. What it created, was one immense and explosive burst of power—aimed directly for Garuda’s face!

M’Lyn watched as Kujo jumped forward, making use of her attack to finish the job. Garuda was clearly losing the fight, but even then the Primal would muster all its strength to counter-attack. While Kujo’s new Haretsu hit its mark, Garuda had already readied her final gambit. The winds picked up their pace, the aether growing in thickness. Both Reena and Lamont perked up at the attack, quickly shifting gears to support the charge from the clad pugilist.
They couldn’t let the Primal get its way!
Lamont jumped forward with his spear at the ready, making use of his Jump to support Kujo’s Haretsu. Reena charged her arrow firmly, jumping into the air while using the venom still coursing through the Primal’s aether —her Sidewinder hitting Garuda on her flank. All in all, the attack would be delayed so long as they kept on attacking.
Swelling with energy, the rapier in M’Lyn’s hands seemed unstoppable —making use of every bit of aether in its surroundings to grow even further in strength. The fact that the Primal kept on using its own aether only further cemented its defeat, for the more aether it conjured, the more the weapon syphoned, and with it its power grew. Eventually, it became far too overpowering, and M’Lyn’s grip on herself was quickly fading. As a last-ditch effort, she focused all of that aether at the end of the hilt, a mighty light quickly taking shape. With a growl, she unleashed an impossibly strong Verholy —the glow coming directly from up above, piercing through the storm and engulfing Garuda in the heavenly light. Though the might of the spell was incredibly powerful, whatever allies were too close to the impact would actually not be hurt in the slightest by it. With a loud, ear-deafening shriek, Garuda was defeated, its form dissolving into the aether that comprised it —and with it, the storm began to dwindle. M’Lyn fell to her knees, the sword stabbed on the ground in front of her as she tried to not fall completely. Her body hurt all over, as if she’d received the blunt of every attack thus far —she even traced blood at the back of her throat, but it was a faint taste. She would survive, she would be okay —that much, she could tell for certain. The blade and Honor that previously had been brimming with power were once again dull and rusted, the energy completely sapped away by the previous attack.
“M’Lyn —are you alright?!”
Reena was the first to notice the Miqo’te kneeling on the ground trying to recover her breath, being that she was the closest to her. Though M’Lyn made clear gestures that she was, in fact, okay, the Viera hardly took them for granted, trying to help her in any way she could.
Whatever M’Lyn had done did win them the fight —but something else was wrong, for sure.

Having leaped through storm and temper, Kujo’s explosive hit landed directly against Garuda’s face. The summoned strength had burst on impact in a brilliant firework of light—leaving the pugilist hurled backwards through the air. While Lamont and Reena provided cover, staggering the God, Kujo focused on using his abilities to land without breaking anything.
Having summoned his Akogare, the winged specter slowly lowered the man to the ground with care. Tch—damn it, woman! It was then Kujo witnessed the bursting energy from M’Lyn’s pilfered weapons. Exploding with a sinister energy he had fought a short time ago, the Miqo’te seemed to visibly stagger and struggle beneath the weight of such power.
”M’Lyn!” Just as he had begun to move forward, forgetting about the God before him, the power brimmed beyond reason. ShhhhiiiIIIIIINNNNG! All of the energy had focused into the rapier’s tip, blasting forth in a radiant Verholy—a spell Kujo had never seen before, but now knew could fell a God. Despite the surge of energy that tsunami’d outwards, he and his teammates would all themselves be fine as Garuda was blasted to bits with a deafening shriek.
Good grief… Having raised his hand to shield his eyes from the vibrant attack, Kujo recovered himself quickly, dismissing his Akogare as the storm slowly began to subside.
“M’Lyn—are you alright?!” Reena’s voice jolted the lavender man’s focus from the sky and back to those around him. Sure enough, the Miqo’te had fallen to her knees, the weapons she had thieved now rusted and dull. With a faint click of his tongue, Kujo scowled while shoving his hands back in his pockets, making his way over to the two.
”You idiot.” Standing in front of them, Kujo’s glare fell on M’Lyn alone. The form of his mouth spoke volumes to the disapproval he felt and the appall he held. ”You saw what those things did in the forest.” A single hand left his pockets, a harsh and calloused finger gestured towards the odd rapier and bizarre artifact. ”You’d really trust some shitty relics over me? Us?”
His emerald eyes hardened and narrowed. Though his anger may have seem blind-siding, she had to understand where Kujo was coming from. M’Lyn had just seen what those things had done in the forest, as well as seen the level of trust he and the others were willing to place in her. All-in-all, it seemed like an insult.
”I know we were fighting a God—“ Speaking with a grimace, the pugilist reached into his jacket for his familiar vice. ”But our strength was enough. Including yours.” Ending his lecture while lighting a cigarette, Kujo shifted his gaze towards Reena and Lamont respectively. Thankfully, his gaze was no longer harsh, his expression one more of mild annoyance than frustration.
”…Thanks.” It was gruff and brief, but appreciation all the same. Gesturing to the two locals, it was clear it had taken Kujo a moment to swallow his pride. Though, it was certainly easier after that last skirmish…
At the end of the day, he had to admit it. Without their special powers, tied to not only them but their world, who knows how the fight would have went?

M'Lyn focused on stabilizing her breath, finally able to stand back up with little effort spent. One deep breath later, the overwhelming sensation coming from the blade in her hands had disappeared, though it had left as soon as the energy was all spent. Reena was somewhat concerned, sure, but at least she was relieved the Miqo’te was alright.
”You idiot.” Kujo’s voice startled both women, forcing them to turn towards him. While Lamont approached calmly, saving his spear to his back, the man in purple began to clearly chastise M’Lyn over her use of the stolen weapons she now held —though as her only reply, M’Lyn rolled her eyes and looked away. The rapier and Honor were back strapped to her hips, a detail Reena couldn’t help but notice. Those weapons were dangerous, and yet M’Lyn was going to keep them?
“Yes, yes, thank you for your concern…” M’Lyn dismissed Kujo’s concern with a wave of her hand, “I believe you’re mistaken when saying I’d trust a stolen artifact over you… Though if you are like this solely because things weren’t ended by your hand, then I don’t know what else to say.” “Still…” Reena frowned, “Do you plan on keeping those weapons yourself?” “Do not mistake my reasoning, please —I’d rather keep them under proper surveillance, rather than to their own fate. ‘Tis precisely because I know what they’re capable of, that I chose to keep them closest —else, I wouldn’t be able to rest easy.” “Hmm…” “Even if they’re dangerous…” Lamont began, “They were our trump card. Though I’m also certain we would’ve defeated her without it, it certainly made things easier —for better or worse.” “Just don’t rely on me next time” M’Lyn replied, somewhat flippant. “I’m more than aware you’ll take your leave eventually —so even if I disliked it, I would’ve had no choice but to completely forget about such a power.”
Kujo’s thanks went somewhat lost, though Reena heard it properly, mustering a faint smile as acknowledgement —knowing it was best to simply take it and move on. Of course, it probably went without saying that Lamont was most likely the target for such words, yet the Elezen didn’t seem to mind those words, dismissing it as not needed —he would’ve done whatever it took to defeat the Primal.
“Ah, right…” the Viera perked up, catching everyone’s attention, “Since we’re already done… We should probably return to Mor Dhona, no? We’re all attuned to the Aetheryte there —so there’s no need to wait!” “…True —there’s hardly any other reason for us to remain here” M’Lyn agreed, “Besides, ‘twould be best to inform the Scions about our success.” “Right? Most likely, Y’shtola also has things to tell you! After all, didn’t she say she’d look into it?”
Reena cheered silently, before conjuring the familiar blue mist that surrounded the group. Beckoning everyone else to come closer, it wouldn’t take much for Reena to teleport them from the arena conjured by Garuda all the way back to Mor Dhona…
Within the blink of an eye, the group found themselves back at Mor Dhona, right in front of its Aetheryte, and looked straight to the Seventh Heaven’s door. Just as before, there were seasoned Adventurers making their way around, and a particular Elezen spotted them at a distance.
“You’re back, I see… All went well, I suppose?” “Ah —Alphinaud” Reena perked up, “What are you doing here?” “Well… I was looking into what Kujo and M’Lyn had asked —and I’m fair certain Y’shtola and I managed to get some valuable information on the subject. I was just returning some books about it to Rowena.” “…And I take it Y’shtola is at the Rising Stones still?” M’Lyn asked, receiving a nod, “Well… We were going to report regardless, so… I suppose that’s not much of a bother.” “Shall we, then?”
Alphinaud offered calmly, before making his way to where Kujo and M’Lyn had first met him. With Lamont, Reena and M’Lyn all following the young Elezen, it seemed it was now time for the two travelers to cash in on their own bargain —though how valuable or useful the information they would obtained wasn’t determined yet.
Still, M’Lyn had placed so much trust in Y’shtola, was there a reason to consider that the information would be nothing but useless to them?

“Yes, yes, thank you for your concern…” M’Lyn’s retort earned her an eye roll herself, not that Kujo made any further remarks. Instead, the man merely scowled while attempting to enjoy his vice. Reena confirmed his suspicions—the Miqo’te was going to keep the cursed things.
Whatever… There was little use arguing with the woman, this much he knew by her tone. Still, he couldn’t help but be mildly annoyed. Would he have to keep an eye on those weapons, as well as her, when they returned to their ‘usual’ lives? Like I don’t have enough babysitting to do? He couldn’t help but feel bitter. For a moment, he cast a somewhat envious glance towards Lamont, who, as he said, would be able to forget such a power.
If only Kujo himself could.
“Since we’re already done…we should return to Mor Dhona, no?” Everyone agreed, as they still needed to report their success, for starters. The promise of Y’shtola’s assistance was enough to make the ordeal worth it, albeit barely. Sighing in mild relief as he exhaled smoke, Kujo merely gave a gruff nod as the Viera summoned a familiar blue mist, shrouding the party…
[BREAK]
Emerging in the main Aetheryte plaza of Mor Dhona, Kujo was thankful for his vice teleporting with him. It had only been a moment before the pugilist landed eyes on Alphinaud, a familiar face in the crowd. “You’re back, I see…” Reena seemed surprised at the Elezen’s presence, though Kujo found it convenient. Hearing how he and Y’shtola had made headway in the information they were seeking increased his mood.
“I take it Y’shtola is at the Rising Stones still?” M’Lyn confirmed their destination, causing Kujo to feel a mild prickle of excitement. Finally! It had felt like they’d been on this damned world for a century. He wanted nothing more than to get the information they sought and leave. Following the tall Elezen through a new yet familiar street, they’d make their way to the office they had first (well, first for Kujo, anyway) met the Master.
He hoped the information they learned was worth fighting a God over.

Wasting no time whatsoever, the group entered the Rising Stones, directly towards the Solar, where Y’shtola awaited. With her was Tataru, tilting her head with curiosity as the Miqo’te read through a book —both of them perking up at Alphinaud’s greeting. Y’shtola closed the book in her hands before handing it to Tataru, thanking her briefly for the help, before turning towards the group who had just defeated Garuda.
It was then that her silver eyes gazed with clear suspicion to the weapons M’Lyn now carried, taking a few steps forward before taking the initiative. As if she knew precisely what Y’shtola was up to, M’Lyn sighed discontent, looking away with a rather unamused glare. “Those weapons… Where did you obtain them?” the silver-eyed Miqo’te asked. “To make a long story short…” M’Lyn took a deep breath, “We had to go through a few troublemakers before fighting Garuda —these weapons were carried by one such troublemaker, and I took it upon myself to keep them in sight, less they become a bigger problem later on.” “…Be wary of it —that’s all I’ll say. The aether flows strangely, yet not in a good way…” “I understood as much” M’Lyn’s reply shocked Y’shtola a tad, “It drains aether from its surroundings —be it from people, or scraps of a battle. During the fight against Garuda, it was brimming in it —yet as soon as the battle ended, all of the energy it had been carrying simply… Disappeared. Still… Your concern is welcome, though unnecessary.” “I suppose if one thing won’t change of you is your recklessness hidden behind wit… Though it’s gotten less reckless and more tactical.” “Can we change back to the topic that matters, please?” the blonde Miqo’te growled, more than displeased at the fact that not only was she being chastised by her choices, she was getting teased by them, as well. “Alas… You’re right.”
It took a while for things to properly start —what with Tataru finally leaving the Solar, Y’shtola and Alphinaud leaving things in their place, and the rest making themselves comfortable. Reena had taken a seat on one of the couches near the fire place, whereas Lamont stood up, leaning against the desk at the far end of the room —Y’shtola and Alphinaud quite literally taking the center stage as they began their own explanations.
“So… While it wasn’t that much that we could discover… I believe ‘tis better than the answers we could provide before” Y’shtola began, “The question now is… Where to start, for there are good things, as well as bad ones… I’ll leave that to your discretion, so that we may be efficient when answering questions.”

Entering the Solar, Kujo couldn’t help but raise a brow as his eyes landed on Y’shtola and the book they held. Tataru peered over the pages with her, immersed until the group made their entrance. Wondering if it related to the deal they had struck as the Master’s aid was dismissed, the tall pugilist couldn’t help but feel a moment of suspense.
“Those weapons…” Upon greeting, Y’shtola was quick to notice and address M’Lyn’s most recent ‘loot’. It was to be expected, considering her affinity with the energy known as ‘Aether’, though it was certainly spoiling the mood in terms of a big reveal. His ally was visibly over all of the lectures, having received harsh judgement from both her Master and Kujo within nearly the same breath. Maybe she can knock some sense into her.
What little hope he had in his idea was quickly and mercilessly dashed.
Still, it was helpful that using such cursed items had helped M’Lyn grasp a fundamental understanding of them. So, it drains energy, huh?[/b] A faintly annoyed scowl had crept it’s way to Kujo’s lips as he thought of the fight against the Couerclaw King in the forests. The rogue Miqo’te had reminded him vaguely of his fight with Liz—an opponent with powers foreign to him, able to keep up with his own.
“I suppose if one thing won’t change, it’s your recklessness hidden behind wit…” Y’shtola’s teasing remark worked to lighten the mood as Kujo’s minor scowl had formed into a sneer. In a way, it was refreshing to see the Miqo’te’s back and forth. Y’shtola had known M’Lyn for quite some time, not only that, but as her ‘superior’. For her to chastise and tease was sure to mean something different—to settle in the heart and be a steady regard rather than annoying reminder.
Hopefully, M’Lyn would consider the weight of her actions seriously.
“So…” Hearing how Y’shtola had indeed found some information (though, it didn’t sound like too much of it), Kujo’s attention cemented itself on the Master. Finally, the information they had originally came for—hell, they even fought a God for it! “The question now is…where to start,” It seemed not everything she had learned was exactly good news. Tch—of course. He should have known. It was never that easy.
”I’m sure it’s not as worse as the reason we came to you.” He glanced at M’Lyn, briefly. Despite his soured mood and mild frown, Kujo merely sighed and accepted it. It’d do little else but give him a headache, otherwise. ”Let’s get the annoying part over with.” Of course he preferred bad before good. Anyone who knew Kujo and understood his stiff and serious nature would have been able to make bets on his answer and win.
The good news would have to wait, for now.

“Very well, then —allow me to begin with a short explanation before properly answering.”
The silver-eyes Miqo’te was calm in her stance, looking directly at both travelers who had arrived for information. Alphinaud was standing close to her, in case he needed to chime in to further explain the finer details, yet it wouldn’t be much of an issue for the Scions to give them the answers the wanted.
After all, they had lent them a hand —the least they could offer as gratitude was to aid them in their own mission.
“While the concept of ‘aether’ is most likely locked to this world… ‘Twould seem our assumptions prior were wrong” Y’shtola began, immediately causing M’Lyn to perk up, “Aether as a concept is the general referral —yet there are two types of aspects within it. ‘Tis what we know as ‘Umbral’ and ‘Astral’ aspects —or, in your terms, light and darkness.” “How come you were not aware of this before, if I may ask?” M’Lyn mentioned, curious. “Simply put, it’s a rather uncommonly known piece of knowledge —why this is, I dare not question, nor is it of interest as of now.” “Back on track…” Alphinaud picked up, “While they are two separate aspects, they make a whole —therefore, they are one and the same, and cannot exist if the other is not present. Because of this, there needs to be a constant balance between the two, for else it is, in lesser words, unsuitable.” “Un…suitable…?” “If one is comprised fully of either Astral or Umbral aspected Aether, their existence ceases —there is no knowledge of a being of such a caliber.”
Y’shtola’s stern comment send shudders down M’Lyn’s spine, yet even she understood the severity of the fact. If her words were to be taken as fact, thing M’Lyn had no reason to doubt, then it would mean that being fully comprised of light or darkness was hardly ideal —someone like that would die, or worse, not exist to begin with. The realization of such a fact quickly turned to fury, as she gathered enough pieces to make out a full picture.
“Then… Should we fail to aid Jack…” “Your comrade in question would, indeed, die —should his imbalance tip to one end. I take it said end would be all of his aether aspected into Astral Aether, given the explanations you’ve given me of your enemy prior. Which leads me to the next point… Your enemy’s capabilities.”
Y’shtola didn’t stop with her explanations, giving little room to digest the information she was handing over, though there was probably a reason as to why that was —otherwise, the silver-eyed Miqo’te would’ve definitely given them time to look through the information thoroughly. She was purposely keeping them on edge so that their minds wouldn’t wander through the worse possibilities just yet —to avoid hope from being completely lost.
Whether it achieved its objective or not, it didn’t matter —Y’shtola continued with her own explanation without missing a beat.
“Based on what you’ve told me, I’d imagine that your enemy’s control over their own power is nigh to perfect” she said, a bit annoyed, “Immediately, the fact that she takes others’ strength to use as her own is alarming. If using your own terms… They take light and turns it into darkness, to then use it to their own judgement. Y'shtola dictated, crossing her arms, "Given this, I don’t believe there are many options when confronting them —either you become able to overpower them before they can overpower you… Or, in a worst-case scenario, with them going to their limit of potential —whatever that may be—, you can still find a way to either keep up with them or overpower them. Where their limit lies, or if that is even humanly possible… I’m afraid that, no matter how much I search, even I cannot give you a specific answer.”

“T’would seem our assumptions were wrong…” Y’shtola unveiled the fact that they’d overlooked a factor of this ‘Aether’ energy that seemed to be the key focus to this world. That being said, hearing that it was composed of two sides—that which he and M’Lyn understood as ‘Light’ and ‘Dark’ from their travels—was slightly underwhelming. Good grief.[/b] Thankfully, M’Lyn asked how such a factor could be overlooked in a much more professional and cordial way than he would have.
“While they are two separate aspects, they make a whole—“ Alphinaud was quick to cut in, a fence for his Master. Hearing about the ‘balance’ necessary for the two energies to co-exist peacefully caught Kujo’s attention. It checked out with the reconnaissance he and the Brigade had done on other worlds. Most of the ones they had visited had a clear unbalance, mainly that of darkness being greater than light. Does that mean all of their adventures had accidentally worked to re-balance worlds, so to speak?
Jack’s weird ‘key’ had been essential for such tasks.
A fact he was annoyed to admit, considering the teen in question’s current position.
Hearing how a world could end to such a disproportionate balance only worsened his mood.
For a moment, Kujo went stiff, thinking of his own home world. Of his mother. Briefly, the stoic man wondered what could have happened to his home, had Jack and the rest not shown up. “Then…should we fail to aid Jack…” M’Lyn voiced the worst of the party’s concerns. Here was the core of the bad news. Jack’s state was similar to that of a world’s, considering Y’shtola’s explanation. Just like a world, the boy’s heart could be overwhelmed by one energy over the other—causing it to cease to exist.
The hands in his jacket pockets clenched into fists.
Jack was a pain on his best days—but that was hardly the outcome Kujo wanted. For a moment, the man thought of Alice and was thankful she couldn’t hear such news. “Based on what you’ve told me, I’d imagine that your enemy’s control over their own power is nigh to perfect.” The subtle praise to Liz caused his jaw to clench. If his body wasn’t strong enough to keep up with his own strength, Kujo would have cracked teeth right there. “They take light and turn it into darkness,” The explanation was absolutely the worst case scenario.
As far as Kujo was aware, he and all his comrades had powers aligning with this ‘Light’ energy, rather than ‘Darkness’. No wonder the bitch could keep up with me… It was a frustrating pill to swallow. If Liz could siphon all of their own energy into her own strength, how would they stop her? Y’shtola’s conclusion did little if nothing to aid in the disturbing possibilities. It seemed it would be down to a battle of attrition.
”Tch—great.” With an annoyed sigh, Kujo scowled. It was bad news, though he was lowkey grateful that the Master had given it to them straight. At least their worst fears were confirmed. ”So, what’s the good news?” Though his tone was gruff, it was clear he wasn’t upset with Y’shtola herself, but with the situation he found himself in.
Hopefully the other information she learned could be of use to them.

Both Y’shtola and Alphinaud waited a little for the travelers to digest all the information —knowing it was both hard to swallow, as well as a lot to consider. Still, it seemed to hardly stop them from chasing after their objective, since Kujo was quick to continue pressing for information, despite his clear annoyance and frustrations showcasing in his glare. Understanding where it came from, however, Y’shtola didn’t seem to flinch at the sight, instead continuing head on.
“Taken all of this into consideration, I would hardly consider them ‘good’ —though it does not mean that all hope is lost” she began, “…Knowing what we know, I doubt that your enemy’s powers is directly related to your comrade’s current situation —despite being the initiator of such. Rather, I believe what they have done is cause their own aether to act feverishly in hunger.” “Like a primal’s influence?” Reena asked, chiming in with an innocent thought to help “You know—they lose sight of reason to devout themselves to their gods.” “’Tis more akin starvation —not stopping until fully satiated. Yet… Darkness alone can never be satisfied with a simple offering. That holds true for any endeavor you choose to take on from here onwards —so pray be careful in this regard.” “Why do you assume she does not induce darkness within a person’s heart, if I may ask?” M’Lyn asked, “For we’ve seen examples of this before, albeit not with the complexity we’re currently dealing with.” “Nothing good is without its bad” Alphinaud continued, taking in for Y’shtola for a little bit, “Everything, be it in this world or the next, has a counterpart closely intertwined with it, almost to the point of being side to side —think of it akin a coin. It’s the very reason as to why we used the word ‘balance’ in this context —without one, the other cannot exist.” “…What about Jack’s condition? Can we do naught to aid him?” M’Lyn asked. “Considering what I’ve said… I believe no external source can aid the boy in question —at least, in dispelling this hungering darkness” Y’shtola sentenced, noticeably concerned —yet it didn’t last for long, “However, while this may stand, it is said ignoring methods or ways to truly help them, yet that, alongside the methods to succor him, elude me” the Scion shook her head, “What I can say for certain is this —whatever methods you find, the ones that will aid him will be those that act internally within one self.”
M’Lyn crossed her arms after Y’shtola finished, thinking deeply about the words the Scion had said. Sure, it looked grim, but she wasn’t going to give up just yet —they had to do something. While she was unaware of the thoughts coursing through Kujo’s mind, she certainly understood her own —without Jack and that “key”, things would not be easier going ahead. Yet wasn’t that same “key” the one keeping him alive? Elena had stated as much —the Miqo’te could remember at least that much. What else was there, that she had mentioned…?
“I believe we know of one way to stall for time” she mentioned, looking between Kujo and Y’shtola, her gaze lingering on the man, “Do you remember? Elena mentioned how she’d managed to dispel some of that darkness with the help of her crystal. That may be one temporary solution until we find a permanent one.” “A… Crystal?” Alphinaud chimed in, curious, “You mean to say an Aether Crystal?” “I can’t say for certain, yet it was anything but an ordinary crystal.” “Well, should you discover a way we are unaware of…” Y’shtola sighed, “I do not mean to discourage your attempts —but pray be careful if attempting something like that.”

“I believe what they have done is caused their own Aether to act feverishly—“ Y’shtola described Jack’s condition directly, stating how it was this ‘Darkness’ eating away at his ‘Light’, with a little help from Reena to build an analogy.
“Why do you assume she does not induce darkness within a person’s heart?” M’Lyn asked a question Kujo had begun to answer himself. If she’s not using her own energy, she’s using his…[/b] They had already discussed how Liz’s powers were of a siphoning type, able to convert others energy into her own. If she could simply touch upon the dark energies already existing within a heart… It’s like he’s eating himself. It was a grim thought, but a logical conclusion.
It was only thanks to that bizarre ‘key’ the boy had that had allowed him to sustain this long.
Alphinaud had said it best. Balance. Implying both sides of the same coin. If there were already light and dark within people from the start, what if one began to overwhelm the other? That’s what was happening to Jack. Kujo felt his teeth clench. “Considering what I’ve said… I believe no external source can aid the boy in question—“ He couldn’t help but scowl at such a sentence. Crossing his arms over his chest, Kujo ground his teeth to remain quiet while Y’shtola spoke. “Whatever methods you find, the ones that will aid him will be those that act internally within one’s self.”
For a moment, he and M’Lyn mimicked each other in brooding silence. What Kujo didn’t expect was the plan his partner would come up with during that silence. “Elena mentioned how she’d managed to dispel some of that darkness with the help of her crystal.“ Her unspoken ‘partner’. He remembered all too well. He still hadn’t fully been able to grasp the powers that woman held—but he knew enough to hardly scoff at the notion. Elena and her crystal were powerful. A force to be reckoned with.
Alphinaud and Y’shtola seemed weary of the idea M’Lyn had brought up, though he couldn’t see why. Though he knew little of this ‘Aether’ energy itself, he’d seen and experienced it at work during his time on this world. It, too, was powerful. ”Why the warning?” Having grown less frustrated throughout the conversation, he now stood relaxed with his hands in his pockets. ”If there are crystals we can take, why not try it out?” He looked between M’Lyn and the other locals.
He knew the crystals stored immense energy, enough to allow adventurers of this world to teleport seamlessly from far distances. He’d also seen raw Aether energy in the battle with the Couerclaw’s and Garuda, so he knew it was nothing to turn a nose at. ”What are the risks, if we use a crystal?” Perhaps she’d know nothing for certain, but Kujo had to ask Y’shtola directly.
Not just for Jack’s sake, but for Alice’s.

Though she had stated her words were not attempting to discourage their ideas, Y’shtola was somewhat caught off-guard by Kujo’s line of questioning, asking why she had even warned M’Lyn about it. It clicked a little late, but the man knew nothing when it came to the more delicate details —he was foreign to the concepts they were speaking of. M’Lyn was familiar, on the other hand, knowing that the warning hadn’t come without its background —and she took it upon herself to explain.
“Generally speaking, there is none” M’Lyn began, “Rather, there’s a limit —should we use crystals to stall this so-called darkness, there’s a limit as to how much it can absorb before shattering. Hence, Y’shtola’s warning.” “Still…” Y’shtola commented, “Are you certain something like that will work?” “There’s no merit without trying —while I don’t know exactly the exact potential of the crystal used prior, there’s bound to be a breakthrough there. That is…” the blonde Miqo’te sighed, “…I suppose it wouldn’t be a bother, were I to take some aether crystals with me?” “I don’t see where the problem lies” Lamont said, his arms crossed and eyes closed, “If anything, you’d be doing us a small favor by depriving Primals from their aether —take as many as you can, for all I care.” “You… Can offer more nicely, you know…” Reena said with some unease, before jumping up and nodding, “I’ll go ask Tataru while you continue here —I’ll be back with as many as I can!” “…Appreciate it.”
The Viera left quickly, noticeably eager to be of help as she left the Solar in search for the pink-wearing Lalafell, while Lamont stayed in place, listening attentive. There wasn’t much else to be discussed, really —at least, that M’Lyn could think of. All in all, it seemed that was as much information as they would get, with the time they had in mind. A flicker of static would echo in both Kujo’s as well as M’Lyn’s coms, reminding them of such thing.
“Uhh… You guys there?” Lid’s voice would echo with a hint of worry, “You… Might wanna start headin’ back here…” “…Is something the matter?” “Alice was lookin’ for you two —though she didn’t specify why she was doing it. Still… Knowing her, she’ll probably end up finding out where you two are… Unless there’s still stuff you have to take care of…?” “…” M’Lyn glanced over towards Kujo, “On my end, I’ll simply wait for Reena to return with the crystals in hand, but… Do you have anything left in your mind? Now would be the time to say it.”

“There’s a limit as to how much it can absorb before shattering.” M’Lyn was quick to explain her Master’s concerns. It made sense that she’d know and he wouldn’t, considering she was from this world. That being said, it seemed neither of them were entirely certain in the theory. “I suppose it wouldn’t be a bother, were I to take some aether crystals with me?” Finally, the Miqo’te made her request.
Lamont and Reena obliged, one more willingly than the other. It suit their dynamic, though. Quick to depart in order to bargain for a few crystals from Tataru, the Viera seemed to always have energy to spare. ”Uh…you guy’s there?” Lid’s voice crackled quietly over the earpiece Kujo wore. Hearing their urge for them to return, the stoic man stiffened.
“Is something the matter?” M’Lyn heard it, too, swiftly responding on her own end. It seemed Alice was searching for them. Can’t I catch a break?[/b] It seemed there was little else that could be done. “Do you have anything left on your mind?” With nothing else to do but take the crystals and leave, it seemed this was his final chance to ask the Master any questions he had.
”Just one thing…” Kujo grimaced as he faced Y’shtola, his hopes low and doubts high. ”Is there any way you can think of to ward someone from having their energy tampered with?” His gaze flickered to the weapons sheathed on M’Lyn’s hip. ”Either from being siphoned, or having its balance swayed?” It was a shot in the dark, but one he had to take.
If Y’shtola knew anything that could help guard or ward them, this was their final chance!

”Just one thing…”
M’Lyn’s subtle curiosity quickly turned into open resentment, having the inkling of a feeling as to what Kujo was aiming for —her glare making it more than obvious. Y’shtola, on her end, seemed a bit oblivious to where he was aiming, though given the conversation they’d had not long ago, she had a few ideas. Still, that was hardly going to solve the problem…
“Well… Depends on whether you have the means to interfere in said problem” the silver-eyed Miqo’te replied, “When something or someone tampers with the energy of another being, there needs to be a means of contact —though it may not need to be physical, mind you. Should you have the means to discover and break said line of contact, then yes —it is possible.” “…Take the Primal you just fought as an example —and its ability to enthrall others” Lamont chimed in to explain, “Using Y’shtola’s words… Garuda was attempting to tamper with your energy, was it not? While you yourself did not hold the means to break said contact, the rest of us did —hence why we could break it before it caused damage.” “Though it’s not precisely the same, I suppose the similarities do aid somewhat…” Alphinaud nodded along the Dragoon, before looking at Kujo, “In other words… Should you not have the means to interfere, then warding them or protecting them shan’t be possible.” “I thought I mentioned how you didn’t need to worry about it…” M’Lyn muttered with a faint growl, “Besides… We ought to leave, before we are really found out.” “M’Lyn… If I may…”
While the blonde-haired Miqo’te turned around to go look for Reena and the crystals she’d promised, Y’shtola was quick to halt her, stepping forward towards M’Lyn without any hint of hesitation. M’Lyn stopped in her tracks, her ears up straight and picked with curiosity, wondering what it was Y’shtola would stop her for. They had already discussed all that needed to be discussed, asked all the questions that needed answers —no matter how useful they were, they had a lead as to what to do.
Why would Y’shtola suddenly stop her like that?
“…Yes?” “Do you mean to go alongside Kujo?” Y’shtola’s question caused M’Lyn to blink, “I mean no ill by it, but… You’re finally back —and yet you’ll leave again?” “So, that’s what you were getting at…” M’Lyn sighed, understanding Y’shtola’s concern, “I understand where you’re coming from, but… You should know by now that I dislike leaving things half-done. I’ve made a deal with them, and so long as my part remains unfinished, I hardly see it fit to abandon now. Of course, once this is all done and dealt with… I shall return.”
Y’shtola remained silent, yet eventually brought herself to nod with a faint smile. Alphinaud seemed pleased with the answer as well, though Lamont was the only one who gave no direct reaction, instead remaining in place —though someone observant enough would notice him nod alongside Y’shtola. To him, it made sense to finish business before returning prim and proper —and if M’Lyn was to return eventually, then the two Adventurers who’d taken her torch and continued to carry it would have to ensure that the Eorzea she returned to was not in dire state.
Reena returned soon after, carrying a small pouch filled to the bring with aether crystals. Storing them securely in the satchel she had crossed over her chest, M’Lyn made sure they were secure before turning towards Kujo, ready to depart.
“We ought to leave now, less Alice becomes more anxious and continues to look for us” she said, “I fear that taking any longer will do us no favor.” “…I’ll leave the Lab for a bit —but I’ll leave the door unlocked so that you guys can leave no problem” Lid chimed in, “Just… Y’know —don’t take long?”

“Well… Depends on whether you have the means to interfere in said problem” Y’shtola seemed hesitant, but forthright. Explaining how they’d need to comprehend the point of contact to warding it’s affects helped—though it wasn’t entirely what Kujo had hoped for. In the end, they’d have to discern it’s qualities and counter-measures for themselves.
Lamont’s explanation helped the Master’s explanation, but did little to dissuade the doubts in Kujo’s heart. “We ought to leave, before we are really found out.” M’Lyn’s warning caused him to sigh.
“M’Lyn…if I may,” Y’shtola stepped forward to address the Miqo’te directly. “Do you mean to go alongside Kujo?” Understandably, the woman was missed here. It was her home, after all. Having had lost her way after leaving the first time, M’Lyn was finally back after all this time, only to leave once more.
“You should know by now that I dislike leaving things half-done.” The Miqo’te’s response caused Kujo to pause, a grin slowly emerging on his face as he shook his head and sighed. It just fit her too well. “Of course, once this is all done and dealt with…I shall return.” Y’shtola seemed appeased by the answer, even if it took her a moment. Truth be told, even while M’Lyn assisted with the Brigade, now that Kujo understood the power granted to him by Genie they’d be able to have her check in whenever she wanted to.
Similar to what he himself did with his own home.
He wouldn’t spoil the moment. Reena emerged with the crystals they’d be trying to use, quick to hand them over. “We ought to leave now, less Alice becomes more anxious,” Having situated their loot, M’Lyn and him were set to go. With a gruff nod, Kujo gestured for others in the room to step back as his Akogare emerged in a burst of light. Reaching into the open air, the armored specter gave a battle cry as its fist yanked and tore at space itself, tearing open a swirling vortex that waited for them to step through.
This better work… The crystals were the only idea they had at this point. Grabbing M’Lyn by the hand, Kujo gave a nod and wave of his hand at the party of adventurers before pulling the Miqo’te through the portal. With a vibrant burst of light, it would close behind the two as they were whisked away from this world to the next…
