Amber was growing beet red. Not from too much drink, like Bartimaeus, but from anger. This was what the bard had been up to?! "Bartimaeus if you don't step back from Rekka I'm going to break your nose." She meant it too!
Bartimaeus just smiled moving his swaying head to lock eyes with Amber. "What I tell ya... hiccup!" The bard's hiccup cut off the remainder of what he was going to say. The two other men that he had been sitting with let out a hoot and a holler of laughter. They seemed to find the entire conversation amusing.
Amber was farthest from finding this all amusing. "I refuse to deal with a drunken fool." She told Rekka. She wouldn't even bother trying to talk to Bartimaeus.
"Come on deary. Why don't you go join your friends and Tad can poor you another drink." At some point a woman had approached from behind Bartimaeus. She was dressed in a red colored strapless red dress. The hem of the dress barley passed her thighs and her bosom looked as if it would bust out of the top of the dress at any moment. The dress was really way to fancy in comparison to the bar. The woman looked out of place in a bar such as this.
Bartimaeus stiffened at the sound of the woman's voice. As he twirled about to lock eyes on the woman with the long black hair and pale skin, he took a step back. "J...Judy... I didn't expect you to be here?!"
The woman's eyes narrowed and Amber watched a grin crease her lips. "You know you can't come here without running into me. Now go join your friends. I'll deal with you later."
Bartimaeus didn't need to be told twice. He practically ran away from the woman! Amber found the entire thing amusing. Who was this woman that she could make Bartimaeus jump like so?
"I take it you are companions of that sorry excuse for a man?" Even though she was mocking him, there was a hint of playfulness in her voice that Amber picked up on. The question was directed to both herself and Rekka.

Rekka heard Amber speak to Bartimaeus. Her voice was clearly riddled with venom, a sign that she was furious with the bard. All this time, it seemed, he had resorted to drinking! Unperturbed by Amber's obviously angry voice, Bartimaeus turned his head to make eye contact with her pointing out what he had said about her earlier. Rekka gave a slight sigh and shook her head. Clearly, the bard had way too much to drink. Just how much exactly, well she couldn't be sure. This was certainly one hell of a mess. Just what had he blabbed to these strangers about them anyway? Rekka could only wonder. Hopefully, he didn't reveal the reason why they were here or what had happened back in the Enchanted Dominion.
There was laughter all around. Apparently, Bartimaeus's bar friends found this whole thing amusing. Just what could he have been saying in his drunken stupor? Rekka looked over at Amber as she told her that she refused to deal with Bartimaeus at all. Honestly, she couldn't blame her but the bard was a part of their group. In a way, she would feel sort of responsible if something bad happened to the bard. Granted, it would be his own fault that he had gotten so drunk but he was a friend. Albeit, a strange friend but a friend none the less.
As if on cue, a sudden voice drifted over to them. Rekka looked toward the source and found a scantly dressed woman in red. The dress looked short and rather tight. On top of it, despite how scandalizing the dress had seemed, the woman looked out of place because of how fancy it looked. None of the other women looked anywhere close to how this woman looked in terms of garb. Bartimaeus's reaction, however, made Rekka furrow her brows in confusion. Obviously, he knew the woman. Her name was Judy but there appeared to be some sort of history. How else was there to explain what looked like a frightened reaction on Bartimaeus's part?
After the lady had made Bartimaeus scamper away, Rekka wondered what this Judy was about. As she spoke to them, Rekka wondered how to answer her. "Uh, yeah." Who was this Judy woman? "I'm Rekka and my friend here is Amber. I see you know Bartimaeus then, Judy?"

Judy returned Rekka's question with a brief smile. "Oh it's hard not to know Bartimaeus in these parts. If he wasn't so keen with disguises he'd have trouble walking these parts. What sort of trouble has he wrapped you two into that your following him? Is there anything I can do to help?"
Amber didn't know what to make out of Judy's last sentence. Thankfully Bartimaeus had not wrapped them into the type of trouble that they were forced to stay with him. At least that was what Amber thought that Judy was suggesting. In actuality the bard had been quite helpful in their adventures. Sure he was a pain in the arse but overall things weren't that bad.
On the other hand, as she glanced over at the bard conversing with his friends, she did wonder just what he had looked like before that people didn't recognize him. "Despite his... annoyances... he's been quite helpful to me." Amber responded. She couldn't speak for Rekka of course, her companion would have to tell Judy her own answer, but for Amber Bartimaeus could have been a lot worse than he actually was.
Judy seemed surprised by the answer(s) she was given. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow almost as if she didn't believe what they had just said. "Well I'm warning you two now. That bard will cause you trouble. If you only knew the amount of times he's come running through my doors asking me to hide him in one of the room upstairs."
Intrigue, Amber decided to inquire more into Judy's story. "What did he do?"
"Well I always suspected that he was running around with a pretty rich girl. I suspected a member of the Wilder family, but for him to be fooling around with someone so close to the royal family! Then he got her pregnant. That was the last time I've seen the fool. Now he comes here, fifteen years later, and tells me he needs a place to stay for the night. If he hadn't mentioned companions I'd of thrown his ass out!"
Amber was shocked by the story. She never would have taken Bartimaeus to be so irresponsible. Having grown up without a father, Amber knew what it was like to not have a father around. It made her blood boil in anger. How could someone just leave a woman like that?!

Rekka was, to be perfectly honest, not quite so surprised to hear what Judy had to say. Wherever they went, it always seemed like they kept learning bits and pieces of the enigmatic bard. If it weren't for the fact he had saved them more times than once, Rekka wouldn't question the bard's history since he never seemed to really question their's. What he could have done here though had her wondering for Judy to state it like that. What Amber said next, Rekka had nodded her head in agreement. Yes, Bartimaeus was annoying at times but the bard had helped them more times than one. He was a friend.
"I'll admit he never mentioned much about his past before being a bard but he has helped us more than once. We consider him a friend...even if he has his...flaws..." Rekka had inwardly shook her head at the bard. He was like an overgrown child. Sometimes the things he did made them wonder.
The look on Judy's face suggested that she knew otherwise. Just what had Bartimaeus had done out here in Land of Dragons? Hopefully, nothing as bad as what he had done with the Queen in the Enchanted Dominion? As Judy warned them, Amber inquired more on the subject. Rekka listened intently too as Judy went on to say that Bartimaeus had once again gotten on the wrong foot with yet another world's royal family. On top of it all, he went and got this one pregnant. Rekka couldn't help but facepalm at what she found out. Running out too like that! Once again, one of Bartimaeus's seemingly shameless deeds they were finding out about. No wonder he didn't tell them anything of his past. He probably had nothing but bad history wherever he went!
"It seems he has a taste for royalty. Running off like that!" Rekka muttered, obviously not too pleased to hear this either. Breathing in, doing her best to not let herself flare up, Rekka looked up at Judy. "I am not surprised to hear this. I thank you for your generosity for our sake in letting us stay here for the night and for the warning. We will try to keep an eye on him while we're here..." Rekka trailed off as she passed a glance in Amber's direction. Amber was, surely, fuming. After all, Amber never really got to experience a proper family since all she had was her mother. She never had her father in her life from what she made it sound like. Hearing something like Bartimaeus running off on someone that he had a child with must bother her like something awful. Rekka wouldn't be surprised if Amber tried to force Bartimaeus to find that woman and his bastard child or beat him up. Amber seemed more less tolerant of Bartimaeus. Honestly, he really could push people's buttons.

"He's about to get a taste of his own blood soon."
Amber's shock was slowly turning into a fast building anger. Glancing over at the bard now, she had half the mind to walk over there and chop off his privates with her axe! Watching him laugh and drink and be merry while there was a helpless child out there without a father, made her want to slap the living daylights out of his mind.
Vaguely Amber heard Rekka thank Judy for letting them stay. "It's no problem. His leaving was probably for the best anyway. The woman he had been with ended up falling in love with another man soon after he left and he ended up raising the child with her."
Hearing that Amber felt a slight relieve of her anger, but it wasn't much. Even though the child had grown up with a father, it was not an excuse to belittle her judgement of Bartimaeus for leaving in the first place. "Let's go to our rooms Rekka. I don't plan on staying here with him around." Amber told Rekka.
Judy, spotting that Amber wanted to head to the rooms, informed them that she would keep an eye on the bard as well. "The rooms are through that door on the right. There's only one floor, but this inn holds twenty rooms with two beds in them a piece. Were pretty booked tonight, so I hope you don't mind that I put the two of you in one room."
That was more than all right to Amber. She didn't mind having to share a room with Rekka. It would be good to sleep in a bed again all the same. "It's all right with me." Amber said, glancing to see what Rekka felt about the matter. As long as there were no problems, Amber had all the mind to head over to the room right than. It had been a busy day, and all she wanted to do now was relax. Preferably away from Bartimaeus.

Rekka gave a nod at what Amber had said. She wouldn't stop Amber from teaching the bard a lesson that he needed to learn. She knew Amber would be too angry or shocked to speak to Judy so Rekka had done so for her. However, it wasn't easy for Rekka to do so either. She worried that she would turn into a human torch soon and scare the living daylights out of everyone there that witnessed it. It wasn't every day people suddenly became engulfed in flames.
At least, for the child's sake, the mother had been able to fall in love with someone else who had been willing to be the father for that child that Bartimaeus refused to be. Even still, it was angering to hear that Bartimaeus ran out like that. "Well, it's good to hear that she managed to move on and find someone else willing to be her child's father." Rekka gave a nod at that.
Now, it was time to make it up to the rooms for them and rest. Amber didn't want to be around Bartimaeus right now and she couldn't blame her. If they didn't leave now, Amber might probably kill the bard. "Yeah, before anything should happen..." Rekka trailed off then.
Judy then informed them that her inn was pretty booked. However, she had at least managed to get the two of them a single room. It sounded fine to Rekka. It wasn't like one of them was a guy. If one of them was, only then would that be a problem. "Sounds fine to me. Thank you once again, Judy and it was a pleasure meeting you." With that, they were given their room number and the key to get in. With that, after being told what floor it was on, Rekka and Amber set off for it. Rekka being sure to block Amber's view of Bartimaeus for the time being as they passed.
"It just seems we keep finding the unpleasant bits and pieces of his past wherever we go. I wonder what the kid's like and if their life is actually a good one?" Rekka said to Amber as they went up a flight of stairs, to the floor where they needed to go. Walking all the way down the hall, they found their room number and Rekka unlocked it for them. "Good to have some rest after what we've all been through the past few days. Hopefully things will remain peaceful...er, as peaceful as it can get with...that other one of our group."

Amber followed Rekka down the corridor. Listening to what she had to say about Bartimaeus, Amber was glad to see that they were sharing similar thoughts. Hearing her voice her opinion about Bartimaeus had Amber agreeing as well. Just why was that? Who was Bartimaeus that almost everyone knew him? From their adventures in the last world, Amber had learned that the bard was a tutor of the royal family. Before that he was a knight in the great war.
"Probably better off." Amber answered, sharing her opinion to Rekka's question about how Bartimaeus's illegitimate child's life was. The life of a bard was no place for a child to grow up in.
Reaching their room, Amber was more than relieved to head inside. She once again agreed with Rekka's thinking. It would be nice to have a peaceful next couple of days before they returned home. "I was thinking we could go look for your aunt tomorrow if you want?" Amber suggested as she dropped her belt and light pieces of leather armor before leaping on one of the beds. The room was your stereotypical hotel room with two beds, a television in the center, a desk, and a window. It showed that even though the buildings were old fashioned, the interior of the place were pretty up to date.
"That bard is just the type of person who you can't live with and can't live without. He's helped us out a lot during our adventure. I guess it's not exactly right to judge a person fully on their past. Still it does make me curious as to what else is there about Bartimaeus that we don't know about."
As she talked with Rekka, Amber knew that it was only a matter of time before she fell asleep. Just laying on the bed had her letting out a yawn. It had been a busy day, and no doubt the next would be just as busy.

(OOC: My apologies for the irregular periods of posting. Been having a tough time with work.)
Rekka felt a little more at ease when they walked out of the lobby and into the halls. The halls didn't appear as populated and not nearly as sketchy. Besides, Judy had that air about her that suggested that it would be a very unwise thing if someone were to do anything bad in her inn. When she had voiced her opinion on the child, she heard Amber state that it might be better off. Rekka gave a shrug then. Really, neither of them would really know unless they ran into them. Since they didn't know them, they wouldn't likely recognize them unless there were features similar to Bartimaeus that would tell them. It would be very ironic if they did end up running into the child.
As the pair of them headed into their own room with separate beds, Rekka heard Amber's suggestion. Shutting the door behind them, careful to lock it in the process, Rekka wondered about it. She had gotten this far, right? Why not make it all the way through? She might discover something about her parents that her mother and father never told her about. Plus, she would get to meet family! Rekka was eager to see someone else from her family. After all, she never knew that she had an aunt until only just recently. It was an exciting thought.
"Well, if you don't mind then I would like to." Rekka gave a shrug then. "I mean, I never knew I had an aunt until today. I wonder what she's like and...if there's anything she might be able to tell me about my mother when she was young and how my parents met. I don't understand why mom would hide family from me though..."
After a moment, Rekka simply dismissed it as she headed over to her own bed. Plopping down in it, she heard Amber mention the bard again. It was true that they couldn't live with him or without him. If it hadn't been for his help, they would have died on more than one occasion. Of course, he had also gotten them into quite a pickle as well. "Yeah, it doesn't feel right to pry...but like you, I also wonder what else we'll find out about this bard. Really, he seems to get around!" Rekka stated with a shake of her head.
"Hopefully, nothing as crazy as these...brushes with royalty he seems to keep having everywhere we go."

Amber couldn't think of any reason why Rekka's mother would abandon her family off the top of her head. Family wasn't something that Amber knew much about. Her mother was always reluctant to bring up Amber's grandmother and grandfather. The little that Amber did know about her own family was that they had perished during the war.
What Amber did understand is Rekka's need to see her family. Amber's mother had given her a picture of her mother with her parents and siblings when she was a child. Amber had treasured the photo, often wondering just what they were like. The fact that Rekka had the chance to meet family that she had never known before was exciting. If Amber had been in her position she would have definitely would have wanted to meet them.
"Me neither, but you definitely need to try and meet them!" Amber tried to reassure her. Letting out another yawn, the conversation once again turned to their unruly bard friend.
There was something more to Bartimaeus than what met the eye. Every time they went to some place new they seemed to learn something new about the bard's past. "With everything we keep learning about him, I'm beginning to wonder just what he isn't telling us. Who was he that he is so popular that he's involved with royalty of various worlds? Why is he now just a simple story teller, seemingly on the run?"
Sighing, Amber laid her head back and glanced at the sealing. She could wonder all she want's but Amber doubted that they would learn much about the bard unless they asked him directly. "Though I guess it doesn't matter much anymore. We only really have two more days and things will be back to normal." Well what she considered normal anyway.
Yawning once more, Amber realized she was getting pretty tired. "I think I'm going to go to sleep though." Amber informed Rekka. They would spend tomorrow focusing on finding Rekka's aunt. Amber had a feeling that it would prove to be interesting.

"Yeah, you're right, I want to meet them. I just hope when I do...well, whatever caused my mother to not see them since I have been around, won't fall onto me and they'd be happy to meet me for the first time..." Yes, Rekka hoped that she wouldn't be shunned over whatever problems her mother might have had with her siblings, if there had been any. With a yawn, Amber turned the subject back onto the bard again.
As Amber spoke, Rekka believed that she brought up a good point. Just who was Bartimaeus, really? He seemed to have been involved with all sorts of people of royalty and now, here he was, with them as a mere bard seemingly on the run. Just what had he done? How did he even come to know all of those people they've run into that knew him? Shaking her head at the endless sea of questions when it came to the bard, Rekka removed the armor that she used as a new recruit from the Cornelia army. Laying back onto her own bed, climbing into it better, she heard Amber's response.
According to Amber, they only had two days left before they were back in Cornelia and things for them would be considered normal for troops from the army there. Rekka still had yet to learn exactly what had been normal for the army in her new home. Her mind also wandered back to how her mother was doing. She hadn't heard from her in a while. Where it meant that they might not see much of each other again, Rekka still found herself wondering how things were back in Cornelia and how her mother was doing. How were what few friends she made in the army doing? She had only been with some new recruits and felt she was slowly making some new friends. Would she manage to make more? Eh, not like she cared all that much. She enjoyed Amber's and Bartimaeus's company more since she knew them longer. Well, sort of knew where Bartimaeus was involved. The bard was always making them shake their heads.
"Goodnight, Amber!" Rekka replied before turning the other way and shutting her only eye, falling asleep. Tomorrow would be a busy day.

As Amber and Rekka slowly fell into slumber and the bard known as Bartimaeus hooted and tooted with the people he had befriended at the bar, storm clouds began to gather over the Land of Dragons. Dark grey cumulonimbus clouds covered the land like a blanket, shutting out the light of the stars and the light from the moon.
Back in the royal palace, the adviser of the court watched the oncoming clouds from his balcony. Unlike almost every other person who lived in the royal palace, the adviser of the court was not a Wilder. A personal friend of the royal family, Mina Saska, was dressed in a simple green nightgown. Her black hair laid comfortably against her back, having been combed and washed just moments ago.
Pushing the spectacles on her nose closer to her face, Mina couldn't shake the feeling that something awful was coming. Periodically throughout the day there had been several signs that something bad was going to happen. First her assistant had returned with news that the accountant had messed up on the palace budget. A simple error, but not one that the accountant had made in over thirty years!
Then there had been the cold lunch. The cook had of course apologized dramatically about serving her cold food, but it was another thing that had gone wrong. And of course Mina had earlier that day slipped on her way to a meeting with his majesty. She had twisted her ankle ferociously!
Finally the gathering storm... It was just the icing on the cake! "Something bad is definitely going to happen! I can feel it. And I'm never wrong!" She never was. When Mina made a proclamation about an oncoming catastrophe, something bad usually always happened. This time though it felt like the catastrophe would be on a grander scale. The storm was an omen to that!
Sadly there wasn't much Mina could really do about it. She had no idea what was coming or when. Still Mina felt like she should tell somebody at least. Mina decided she would go find Saskue the Accountant. She'd tell him about her feeling. The old man always had a way of easing her troubled mind.
As she turned to leave, the crouching figure who watched her from the roof just ten feet above her leaped down behind her. Hearing the sudden sound of something hitting the ground right behind her Mina spun about in surprise. Letting out a yelp as she did so, Mina's eyes fell on a young man dressed in tight black clothes with a knife in his hand. Mina didn't even manage a scream before the blade sliced her throat.
Julian Loki, watched Mina fall. Whipping the bloodstained dagger on the woman's night gown, he returned the dagger to the sheath at his side. He had no idea who the woman he had just killed was. But that didn't matter. He was not here for her. Mina just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As the rest of the night passed it took until mid morning before Mina's body was discovered. It was old man Saskue who had discovered the body. He had brought the revised budget for Mina to look over before it was presented to the court that day. Neither he nor anyone else knew that Mina's killer hid somewhere in the castle.
Amber awoke after a good nights sleep. It was mid morning, and she knew that it was going to be a good day. Well at least she thought it would be. Amber was excited to go look for Rekka's aunt. Rising out of her bed, Amber walked to her window. Noticing the dark grey clouds overhead, a sour look crossed her face. She hated the rain! "Hopefully it'll just pass right over us." Amber thought to herself. Leaving the window, she failed to notice that the clouds weren't actually moving. They were stuck in place, creating a gloomy look over the Land of Dragons.

Rekka woke up a bit after the time Amber had. She knew nothing of what omens a woman knew of and had been slain over. All she knew, once she woke up, was that Amber and she were going to go and look for her aunt. The thought of it excited her a bit but also worried her. What would her aunt think? Would she accept her? She couldn't help but worry about that only because she wasn't sure why her mother never spoke of her family. Would they even find her? All of these swam in Rekka's mind as she stretched, letting out a yawn before glancing over at the window. There was Amber already gazing out of it. Outside, as Rekka peered out, she could see what looked to be a rather gloomy looking cloud. A sign that it was about to rain if it hadn't started already. She didn't notice the fact that the clouds weren't moving at all as she climbed out of the bed.
"Huh, guess we'd better find ourselves an umbrella or something!" Rekka stated as she started putting back on the new recruit's armor back on. Rubbing at her eye, out of habit rubbing the missing eye too, Rekka trailed towards the door and then looked back over at Amber.
"Are you ready to head out or do you want to grab a bite to eat first?" Rekka didn't mind which. After all, it wasn't like her aunt would be going anywhere anytime soon if she was still in this world. Hopefully, they weren't about to find out that Bartimaeus had caused more trouble while they had been asleep for the night. Patiently, she awaited Amber's answer before heading out the door and down the hall.

Finding an umbrella was a really good idea. Amber hadn't thought of it as she dressed. Perhaps they could find one at one of the shops. Finished getting dressed, Amber waited for Rekka to get ready before she started for the door. "Let's get something to eat on the way. I'm sure there's a bakery or something like that in town. Maybe even find an umbrella too!"
Amber told Rekka with a smile. Once she was ready to leave, Amber headed out of their room. Leading the way, Amber walked down the hall and back to the greeting room / bar. There the scene was much different from what it was when they first entered. The place was empty and clean. There were no serving girls or horny men hooting at the bar. The place was quite somber. It was a much more welcoming place for Amber in comparison to what it had been.
"I wonder where Bartimaeus is..." Amber thought aloud. There was no sign of the bard. Well it wasn't that important at the moment. They had more important things to do. Hoping that the bard wasn't getting into anymore trouble, Amber went ahead and exited the inn.
Outside, Amber walked into a mellow lightning of the town. The clouds overhead did not shut out all light, but there was an obvious lack of sunshine. People were already coming and going in the town, and Amber couldn't help but feel like their mood was influenced by the clouds ahead. The mellowness of the weather seemed to affect everyone, as was obvious by their posture and behavior as they walked.
"Why don't you lead the way. I don't know where your aunt lives." They'd stop at the first bakery or food stand that they came in contact with for some breakfast on the way.

As Rekka got ready, she heard Amber's reply. "Alright, sounds good to me then." With that, the pair of them headed out into the hallway. By the time they reached the main lobby, it were as if the events from the night before had never been. Even the crowd that had been there the night before was gone. Not even the scantily dressed serving girls were there! If one didn't know any better, they would have thought they walked into the wrong inn if they had seen it the night before.
Amber then mentioned Bartimaeus. With a quick glance around the area, Rekka realized that the bard wasn't there. "He'll turn up...just hopefully not after getting himself into more trouble which, by extension, would fall upon us depending on the trouble he gets himself into." Rekka gave her head one last shake before the pair of them finally headed out into the streets. The air out here was gloomier than it appeared to be. People were moving more swiftly and anxiously in attempts to get what things they needed to get done before it would rain. At least, everyone seemed to think some sort of storm were about to take place here.
Rekka turned to Amber as she suggested that Rekka take the lead in the search for her aunt. Well, hopefully, they'd find her. If not, they would at least have some fun in seeing this very town they were in. "Well, okay then!" Rekka lead the way down a road the two hadn't gone down before. Up ahead, it looked like it lead toward the dojo again from a different angle. Coming to a stop at the gate, Rekka gazed up at the sign before peering in. The two of them could see inside from where they were standing. People with blue hair, no doubt more Wilders, were inside training.
"Well, she certainly can't be inside there. If she was, she'd have to be a Wilder, I think." Rekka was pretty sure her hair wasn't blue so there was no relation at all to the Wilders in her immediate family. Turning away from it, Reka heard her stomach growl. Getting a bite to eat before they started asking around sounded like a good idea. "Hm...how about that marketplace?" Rekka pointed out. Leading the way over, it looked like a good spot to find some breakfast or a snack. However, what she saw made her pause. A large number of buildings here were burnt and even in ruins. There were still buildings that were intact and fine but it did make Rekka take pause.
"Hm...what happened here?"

Following the enthusiastic Rekka, Amber paid more attention to where they were going than what was immediately around them. Even though it was pretty early, there were still a mediocre amount of people hustling about. Where they were going, Amber could only guess. As the pair came upon the dojos, Amber's eyes couldn't help but drift to them. Even from here she could see people training in the outside grounds.
Amber didn't know much about the Wilders. After all this was her first time in the Land of Dragons. Everything she had learned had been from what others had told her. Seeing the streaks of blue in their hair, Amber wondered what it must be like to be a Wilder in this world. The Wilder's were the leading family. There were several of them, and even the King was a Wilder.
Rekka's comment about her aunt probably not being there was an accurate description."Nope probably not there." Amber said aloud. She had to agree with Rekka. Her friend had none of the blue streaks in her hair that all these Wilders seemed too.
As they continued, Amber too was beginning to get an appetite. Her own stomach had that empty feeling inside. Rekka's comment about going to the marketplace was an excellent idea. "Ya, let's stop and get some food as well." Heading over, Amber almost ran into Rekka when she paused in the middle of the street. Amber's eyes had been on everything but the buildings around them, and only now did she spot the ruins and charcoal colored burnt marks on buildings.
"A fire I think.." It was sad to see all the destruction around them. Just what had happened here? What had caused such devastation that some of the buildings were totally destroyed beyond repair!

There was nothing about Rekka that was Wilder-like. Honestly, she was fine with that. Nothing against the Wilders but she wasn't sure that she could live a life where people expected you to protect them because of your heritage. That also went hand in hand with her feelings about royalty. She was content being the common person because she didn't have to worry about the sake of others or what people would think of her because of her actions or appearances. It was bad enough with a missing eyeball, she didn't need more attention. Thanks to her missing eye, she often wondered if she'd make it out just fine in the army of Cornelia. After all, she had a blind side that could easily be used against her. She still had yet to learn how to prevent that.
As Rekka mentioned the marketplace, she heard Amber's agreement. Yes, there they would likely find some food. When they entered the area though, buildings were in ruins. It were as if some kind of wildfire had swept through the given area. A lot of the buildings were in ruins. People walked on, either ignoring the scene or simply shaking their heads in pity before continuing on their way.
"Well...yeah but...why?" Rekka stated. Surely, they had means of preventing a nasty fire in these parts? It wasn't like this world was stuck in the feudal ages anymore. It had been a very long time since then.
"Looked like a nasty one too..." Rekka trailed off. Were it possible if she would accidentally cause something like this? Rekka hoped not. In her mind, she was determined to learn how to control her new ability with flame. If she could do that, she could live with some peace of mind that she wasn't a walking time bomb whenever her emotions got out of whack. She always worried that even one of her dreams would set her off and she'd accidentally hurt her friends. Rekka didn't want that to happen.
"Well...there's a bakery...my goodness, it's almost in disrepair," Rekka stated as she headed toward it. People there were working though as if nothing were wrong. Most likely, they would be repairing it after enough munny was earned to pay for them. "Hm...that bagel looks good!" Rekka stated as she glanced at someone's bagel they ordered with cream cheese. Yes, Rekka would be fine if that's all she ate.

Amber had no idea that the destruction to this area made her worry that she might cause something like this if her powers every went out of control. Amber wasn't a fire user, nor did she pick up on any sort of worry from Rekka. Her mind was to preoccupied on their surroundings as they walked. Seeing all the destruction, Amber wondered what happened to the people who lived there? No doubt the families who lived in those homes probably had lost everything.
Back in Cornelia, fires weren't often. In fact during her entire life, Amber had come upon only one fire. It had been caused by a lightning storm in the night. Amber remembered being awoken in a disarray as her Captain ordered them out of their beds and into their gear. They were needed right away to evacuate citizens. When they had arrived on the scene, Amber had encountered the devastation of a wild fire for the first time in her life.
She watched men carry long hoses to the fire and shoot jets of water out at it. Amber's captain had split them into groups of three to search for anyone caught in the smoke or houses nearest the fire. It had taken them the night to put out the fire. Because of there fast action they had only lost two individuals, a couple who had been caught in the home where the fire had started. It was a sad affair, but one that Amber didn't soon forget.
Hearing Rekka speak of a bakery, Amber's stomach made a gurgling sound. Boy, she was hungry! The bakery had been hit by the destruction, but still somehow remained for the most part intact. People passed by as if none of this destruction bothered them. Or perhaps it was more that they were used to it by now. Following Rekka, Amber approached the bakery with her. Seeing Rekka pick up a bagel and inspect it, Amber chose one for herself. Picking up one more, Amber picked up their tab and paid the lady behind the counter.
As she ate, Amber joined Rekka outside. "Ah! Bagel and creamcheese. I always used to have one for breakfast in Cornelia. Oh how I've missed you!" She said with childish delight. Eating it, Amber enjoyed both of her bagels down to the last bite. The breakfast would hold her till they went for lunch later in the day.
Now though it was time to continue their search. Where would they find Amber's aunt? Had the old lady from yesterday given a clue to where they might start their search? If she had, Amber hadn't paid enough attention to remember. But Rekka most certainly did if she had. After all this was her family that they were looking for.

Rekka hoped Amber wouldn't pick up on her discomfort with her powers. She didn't want Amber to think that she felt dangerous. After all, she didn't want her friend to worry. It was a challenge that Rekka needed to face. She didn't want friends to worry over her thinking these things. She wanted to give the impression that she didn't think of these things. All she could do was press onward. Along the way, she might learn something. Hopefully, she'd learn to know how to control her power. If they ended up on the road forever, it might not do her learning curve good except learn new ways of utilizing her powers...which may not be good in the long run because there was no telling how out of control her powers could get without proper means of knowing how to keep it contained.
As Amber bought them the bagels, she smiled over at her friend. "Thank you, Amber!" Rekka stated before picking off a piece of her bagel and chomping it. It was delicious! Even if it was a small bite to eat, Rekka appreciated it. It would keep them going at least until lunch time. She wasn't sure yet about dinner time since there was no telling if Rekka could find her aunt out here. It might not even be today or tomorrow. Heck, see might not even see her at all. Hopefully, they would. Rekka wanted to meet her aunt. Shaking her head, Rekka had to snap herself back to the present.
When Amber made to eat, Rekka gave a bit of a chuckle as her friend dug into her bagel. "Feels good to have a sense of normalcy, eh?" Rekka replied with a smile. Yes, they could use a bit of normalcy considering what they had all been through. The three of hem were lucky that they got out alive each time. What new things they might face, Rekka hadn't a clue but it seemed their journey they had outside of Cornelia was coming close to a close. Hopefully, they would continue to see each other. Maybe not all the time but now and then would be nice. Just to see how everyone was doing since their journey together.
After munching down her bagel, the search continued. It had taken them hours and they still didn't find any sign of Rekka's family. "Hm, no matter how many people we ask around no one seems to know where she is..." Rekka trailed off thoughtfully. Did that mean that she was outside of the city then? Could that even be possible? Rekka turned and glanced outwards. In the distance, just above the gates that led outward in the distance and the city's walls, Rekka could make out a large, snowy mountain. "Maybe they're not here in the city anymore...but I don't want to travel outside of here since we're meant to-!" Rekka was cut short when someone collided into her, bowling her over and knocking her cleanly off of her feet.
As she fell, Rekka hadn't gotten a good look at the culprit before they took off, not even muttering an apology. Amber, on the other hand, would have. It were almost like looking at twins save for the fact the one that crashed into Rekka was male and had two eyes instead of one. By the time Rekka had recovered from the crash, the other had gotten some distance ahead of them. Blinking, Rekka glanced around trying to see who had run into her. As she did so, a couple of blue haired guards rushed past, nearly almost trampling poor Rekka again.
"Geez! Watch where you're going!" Rekka snapped out after them. It wasn't until she noticed the red hair that Rekka wondered. Could it maybe be a relative? 'Oh good grief, don't tell me that he's a troublemaker!' Rekka thought before taking off. Poor Amber must've been confused in all of this as Rekka took off after the guards and the red head that had knocked her over.

Normal... What was normal? Before all of this Amber would have said it was the many tasks and duties of being a field commander. Now though... Well Amber was beginning to get used to all of this randomness. She was looking forward to getting back to the barracks and her regular duties, but she would no doubt miss the uncertainty that came along with her travels with Rekka and Bartimaeus.
Following Rekka around, they spent the majority of the day searching for her family. It seemed that luck was not on their side. No matter who they asked or how they asked, there seemed to find not a clue as to where to find her aunt. Amber was beginning to get disheartened when Rekka finally brought up an interesting thought.
"Outside of the city..." Amber hadn't thought of that! There were homes and even villages outside of this main city! In fact hadn't Bartimaeus visited one when he went to the hot springs?! Perhaps that was why they couldn't find anything! Rekka's aunt must not be in the city!
Amber was about to suggest that even though they didn't know about the city, maybe they should track down Bartimaeus or the inn keeper and ask them about it when something strange happened. Out of nowhere a teen ran over Rekka! "Hey!" Amber shouted as the teen ran off. Amber only saw him from behind so she did not have the sense of nostalgia that Rekka felt.
Seeing the guards run pass them not to much later, Amber realized that something was definitely up with this situation. Amber made a snap decision then. Blood pumping in her veins, Amber's military kicked into gear. She was not going to let some punk run over her friend and avoid the law, regardless of not even being on her home world.
Amber pumped her legs into fifth gear and shot towards the guards and the male they chased. Both the guards and the teen had distance on her, but she had something that they did not, more energy. Amber had just started running and so she shot off at the fastest that her legs could take her. It was only a few moments before she ran right past the guards!
"Stop!" She shouted as she started to gain ground on the runaway male.

Rekka only ran because she realized the figure had red hair. Granted, it was a long shot but maybe there was a chance it could be a relative. Goodness help her though if it were. After all, why were they being chased by the local authorities? Just what trouble were they getting into and what did they do? She took off without a second thought then in pursuit of the fleeting figures ahead of her. Unlike Amber, though, she wouldn't yet be as swift of foot.
Amber, on the other hand, as soon as she had figured out what was happening, took off for the red haired figure ahead of them all. Her shouting as she caught up to the figure seemed to only give them an extra burst of speed as he sped off, determinedly trying to not get caught.
As the chase continued though, eventually, he started to tire down. Rekka and the Wilders too had slowed down. Amber, on the other hand, could easily catch the figure by now.
